I recently ordered a ruger 57 online and had it sent there. I was called to pick it up and looked at it everything was brand new when I opened it up two new clips and all just when I was bout to take it home. they hit me with the background check I had to wait 2 days for it to come back but when I went to pick it up they took my brand new clips and replaced them with old scratch up clips and some had rust on them. I called sportsmansguide.com to made sure everything they send is new and they said yes they dont send everything used smh I wouldnt recommend you send transfers to hoover tactical if its a hot item because the will steal from you π‘π‘ and pretend that they dont know what you are talking about. They dont like when you smart and ask questions they have shady business practices and they know they couldnt replace the new gun because of the serial number on it so they took everything else π€¬π€¬
The service was good. The folks were professional and nice. Instructions were clear and easy to understand. It was not busy. The place was clean.
Iβm not sure where all of the negative reviews are coming from. Iβve never had a bad experience at Hoover Tactical. People who are offended by gun shop employees are definitely new to the hobby. Those folks have likely had to listen to more absurd stories and answer more ridiculous questions than most of us ever will. As for their prices, gun sales are at an all time high; it wonβt always be that way. If a business wants to stay open through all of the ridiculous things that have been going on in the world, they have to adapt and I feel like they definitely have. The market dictates the price.
Superior indoor range with the best instructors out there. Ronnie Fowler is second to none. This place feels like a family I want to be part of. But safety first or youβre OUT. How it should be.
Really great selection, but the prices are insane. This is not even to mention how rude the staff was. I recently purchased my first firearm from them and the simplest questions elicited comments such as well thats just common sense and other unnecessary reactions. I will avoid spending money there if I can help it.
Great range and knowledgeable people. However, dont make an impulse buy as their prices are high. I went in to buy a new strap for my rifle and saw a pistol I liked. The guy behind the counter showed me one that was traded in, he said it was a great deal. About two days later I found the same gun NEW for over 130.00 less. Maybe other prices are fair but this will jade me from future gun purchases here. Just beware.
Theyre getting 2 stars because the range is decent (Sheepdogs is better by far). If you want a quiet dark place to walk around without being disturbed, go to Hoover Tactical the staff will ignore you completely while you peruse their sub par merchandise.Youre better off ordering stuff online than wasting your time at HT.
Range team very nice and helpful. Takes a min or 10 to fill out all the paperwork from typing on tablet, but that is just part of it. Affordable if you shoot before 12pm.
The guys behind the gun sales counter seemed a bit uptight. There prices seemed okay. The guys in the gun range were great, and very helpful. awesome pistol range, I will definitely be going again.
Mannnn Hoover Tac USE to be the best !They literally sucked all the fun out of the place firing the wrong people. A couple moved on..All thatβs there are aHole robots with NO PERSONALITY.No cracked smilesJust a boring place to go to nowWhen I first started going guys seemed to enjoy theirselves at work. Now itβs just straight business.I no longer go here because the guys who pretty much showed me how to shoot HANDS ON are gone. Carry I believe thatβs his name *the owner, GREAT GUYRIP Mr.Jack&J.B, Scottie also great guys
Enjoyed my experience. Went to use the range and bought a few items. Cowboy and Elijah running the firing range were good guys. I purchased an after market clip there to have an extra and it was defective. After finishing up Karen returned it with 0 issues.Few things to know beforehand.1. Range time is UNLIMITED. Price was right at 18. My cost for two targets and range use was under $22.2. Your weapons are welcome. They ask that you not bring in loaded rifle magazines due to some issues with customers having discharged in store on accident. Pistol magazines are fine loaded but they ask that you not load your firearm prior to entering the range. Both of these policies seem more than fair from an employee safety standpoint.3. Safety eyewear and ear protection are required. They do not charge a rental fee for these. If you do not have it will be provided. I had my own prior to going but just fyi.
Edit: My firearm was cerakoted a while ago, about 2 years, just one, second one I was charged for stiff they didnt do. Just forgot about it until I got the notification I set on my phone for when my membership expires. I cannot reply to the business, as Google doesnt allow that, but if theres an email or whatever Id like to there.Awful staff always stealing money by adding on extra fees, and ruined my Glock with an awful Cerakote job, also lied about Cerakoting my saiga, but still charged for it.
Poor ventilation and lighting on the range. Go to sheep dog in trussville if you want a good range to shoot at. Also donβt purchase a firearm from them. They are always overpriced, even on used ones and all of the staff treat you like you are beneath them and they never know what they are talking about. This has been the experience every time over the years as Iβve tried to give them chances over and over again to give me a better experience. Itβs the same ole same. I went back in not long ago and for the first time and I felt like I was treated as an actual customer by a nice older lady behind the gun counter. But even then I didnβt make a purchase as the inventory was garbage. Drive 3 more minutes down to marks. Way better inventory and knowledgeable staff.
Very helpful and knowledgeable about everything they sell. The range is convenient and a great place to practice.
Not your typical gun store, has a catering company in the back near the range. Employees are amazingly friendly for the most part. They go the extra mile when you need them to. Great range on the weekends families there with their kids. No macho posturing, just warm friendly folks. Thats my wife with her .45
Yes. Love this p. Friendly and more
Not helpful. I was going to purchase a gun but several employees avoided me and none offered to assist.
They have a big selection of guns! But told one price to come use the range and when I got there it was almost $30 dollars more so we left.
Donβt have your gun shipped to Hoover Tactical!Very disappointed with Hoover Tactical. I called them Monday morning of 01-25-2021 asking for them to send their FFL to another gun store out of state. The lady said she would get that handled as soon as possible. She took down my phone number, the gun stores phone number, and other information. Come to find out two days later they still had not contacted the other gun store with their FFL In conclusion, if you need a gun shipped to Hoover Tactical they will lie to you and tell you they will take care of it as soon as possible. But will forget to do it. Horrible service and management.
First time visiting and the staff was amazing..... I will be back
Sales personnel act as if they are entitled and going above and beyond to help you spend your money.
Had my very first visit to Hoover Tactical (HT).1. very kind and informative.2. they offer eye and hearing protection.3. If you have an issue with your weapon, someone is there to help you.4. The Ranges are indoors.5. They have a large selection of weapons to purchase and shoot with.In summary, very impressed definitely will be returning.
Iβm new to handgun ownership. The employees here have been awesome! Talked me through my first purchase to a gun I feel comfortable with.I took the Gun Safety Course from Jim Brandt, he was knowledgeable and personable it included range time were he helped me decide what gun would fit best for me. The range employees are friendly, helpful, and very efficient.
Took a gun to the gunsmith 5mo ago. Iβve called back 3x and am told a parts on order every time, but the order date and expected delivery miraculously changes with every call. Their service is trash.
Nice range and store. I shot a few indoor matches there.
I work on FFL transfers for a rifle manufacturing company and was calling with a question for a transfer we were doing to Hoover Tactical for a mutual customer. I have never experienced this type of service from any other company in this line of business. I canβt say anything about how they handle the ATF paperwork but as for myself I hope I never have to deal with them again.
The real secret gem of Hoover Tactical is the archery range and pro shop. Theyβve got a 25 yard target range and another 3D range with various distances and targets. Their lessons are also top-notch! I walked out of there shooting better than I ever have. Very personable and professional while still having a ton of fun and covering so many aspects of what makes a good archer. Fantastic experience!
I bought 2 gift cards there for Christmas. The cashier was so friendly and helpful.
Great Place to Shoot, -1 star bc they are a little expensive..
I used Hoover Tactical to do a transfer. I was helped by Carrissa and Karen and they were both over the top awesome and helpful. This was the 1st such transaction for me and those 2 ladies made it painless.
Excellent facility with a great staff. Everyone there is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. My son and I try to get range time in at least once a week. Reasonable prices on range fee, ammo and targets.Become a member and see even better prices. They even have a little cafe there thatβs a great idea for lunch.
Thatcher was AMAZING!! Very knowledgeable, honest and helpful. No sales pressure and made sure I was comfortable with my purchase.
The facilities are nice, its clean, they have food, an indoor range, good selection.. but you can buy the same gun at other locally owned places for much less. Also some of the staff make you feel like you are bothering them, but thats not necessarily true for all of them.
Over 3 occasions i have found the sales staff to be grouchy and rude, they give you shortest answer possible even if you are the only one there. Like they do not care about you at all, do not try to engage you and make you feel welcome. Which is total opposite of the people running the range who are super friendly and helpful. So great safe place to shot but I would never buy anything from here.
This was our first time on the range in years at HTF. βCowboyβ (John) was professional, courteous, and very squared away. He was patient with my wife and I. I would highly recommend Cowboy at HTF. Thank you again!
They should adopt a time limit policy on the range.Due to COVID many lanes shut down and some people are inconsiderate and take way to long.I watched business walk out the door while 1 of their employees was taking forever.
This is a very nice place with a very nice set up. The range is a little short but itβs indoors and very safe. Happy hour is between 10 and two.
Great service and they appreciate military service with a discount on purchases and $12 all day range fee for veterans($5 on tuesday). Of course guns are cheaper online but thats a given almost 100% of the time with every gun store. What else do you want?
Hoover Tactical is a nice place to shop, many people complain about the higher prices but thats the price you pay to support a smaller, human-ran business that isnt ran by a corporate machine. The staff is largely pretty good, though can be a little standoff-ish to some, largely because customers are great and sticking their own feet in their mouth. Its a no BS shop, and Im very okay with that. They have a good selection, and Ive had all around good interactions with the staff. Ive had a gun transferred to them, and have dealt with them a few times with nothing but good things to say.
Just left there in search of .223 ammo. They were out which during the current Covid 19 situation is understandable. However I decided to check out some other firearms while I was there. I asked to see a few pistols and rifles and seemed to be more of a bother to the sales staff rather than a potential paying customer. They were unknowledgable of the firearms they were selling and pretty rude about having to grab a firearm out of the showcase when they just seemed to be busy playing on their phones. Everything I saw was incredibly overpriced, even the ammo a member was trying to peddle out of his car for a friend. The only person that was in anyway helpful was an older gentleman in a had who was working on a customers AR. Even he said if you want something for cheaper our best bet would be bet would to order it online, while the customer gave me some info and seemed more knowledgeable than the sales staff with my question. My recommendation...take your business to exile armory in weaver. Great prices, friendly staff, and knowledge about the products they offer.
Ive had both good and bad experiences here. Some of the staff have such an attitude. Some gave driven me to take my business someplace else. Only thing they have good there is the range which is the only reason I go. If I need to buy a firearm I go to Simmons or anywhere else.
Just a GREAT time! The facility is clean and well kept. The sales side is well stocked and the staff was friendly. The shooting range was very fun, and the staff at the counter was helpful and attentive. The archery side is also very well stocked. While we were there a self defense class was also underway. There is also a cafe with plenty of tables.
Its a giant grocery store that was renovated and turned into a huge gun store. I mean what else could you ask for. Great people and very cool atmosphere. Very large selection and tons of accessories along with very knowledgeable staff. The staff has always been very professional courteous and always willing to answer any questions.
UPDATE: if you like being hotter than if you were at a outdoor range then this is the place! Stuffy hot and humid. I was sweating like a pig.Ive been around to about every range in Birmingham. This place is not the best Indoor range like some people like to think. Sheepdog Firearms has a far better range for better prices. The only down side is that you rent the range for a hour instead of all day. The range at Hoover tactical is great but its expensive. The up side is that you can shoot for as long as you want. The membership isnt worth it. Their gun prices are insane. If you want to buy a gun for the best price you should go to line of fire in moody. Guns at Hoover tactical are marked up insanely high. Some staff are rude, Ive never had a bad experience at the range counter but the selling counter is garbage in customer service.
Special Thanks to Patty, Barry, & Kerry!!! Every time Iβve been to Hoover Tactical to purchase or use their range they all are knowledgeable, friendly, & always willing to help!!! Patty & Barry always took the time to explain & made sure my purchasing experience was A+! If you are in the market or just want to practice firing go see my friends @ Hoover Tactical!!!Thanks guysWendell
Lol got trolled hard on Facebook. Better luck next time
Low selection and not very helpful.
Visited Hoover Tactical a few days ago and absolutely loved it. I browsed the handguns for 20 minutes or so and was assisted by an incredibly helpful and attentive employee. I also visited the range and fired 200 rounds from my newest pistol. The employees who assisted me at the range were also quite attentive, helpful and friendly. Finally after finishing up my range session I found myself quite parched and a little hungry so I ordered a burger from Shooterβs grill, located between the range and showroom floor. The food was great and again the employee running the grill was super friendly. Every aspect of my visit to Hoover Tactical was pleasant. Iβve found my new range and Iβm sure Iβll be enjoying quite a few more burgers from the grill.
I love the staff. But this is the only firearm place I am always put on hold for 4 days and Right now I dont know why. But other than that they are okay.
Great Gun shop, great collection.
Poor customer service. We called ahead to shoot on the range. A lady on the phone said they accept the last shooter at 6:30PM. We arrived at 6:08PM and were turned away. We politely explained the circumstances, that we talked to an employee on the phone to verify before coming, and that it was an hour and a half round trip for us to come there. We were told to come back another time. We couldβve been done shooting well before the store closed at 7. Youβve lost our future purchase and range business.
Went in today and was greeted as I came through the door. Everyone was helpful and friendly. Good selection of accessories and firearms. Spent a couple of hours on the range and it was great. Interesting people using the range. I will go back.
Professional service great prices...
I didnβt go into the store, I just called beforehand to see if they had the firearm I was looking for in stock or not. Iβm a first time gun owner so Iβm not very knowledgeable about what guns are better and in what ways, but I guess the gun I wanted was beneath them because they acted like my call was a complete waste of time; didnβt even answer the second question that I asked. It was just a phone call but iβve seen a lot of negative reviews on here specifically about their sales staff and the short amount of time I spoke with one of them gave me that same negative impression.
Took a rifle in to have some accessories put on it. Gave them about 30 days before checking. Was told the parts were back ordered. Called back 30 days later...parts still on order. Another 30 days, same thing. Finally, I go in to get my gun. I learn that the parts were never ordered at all. So they actually order the parts this time. I go in 3 weeks later. All the parts are on the rifle but the new but stick is not aligned correctly. It is supposed to be straight up and down compared to the pistol grip. It was not. It was not off by much, probably only about 5 degrees but it was noticeable. Showed it to the guy in charge and he was extremely inpatient. For some reason he could not understand that the but stock was not aligned. He is impatient, I explained 4 times what was wrong, he was refusing to understand, I get irritated and he says dont get all hot now. I was not Hot. I was frustrated that my rifle had been at this place for 6 months, was still not right and the guy in charge was talking to me like I was an idiot. Long story short, after much consternation, the rifle was fixed. Will not have work done there again.
Very friendly and helpful staff. I called before hand about having a transfer sent and the lady on the phone was very helpful. When I showed up to fill out the paper work i was immediately asked if they could help and while filling out the paperwork the lady at the desk was very helpful in answering questions. 10/10 service
I did a two hour session with Jim Brandt and it was amazing. I wasnt totally comfortable with my hand gun when I walked in but Jim made me feel much better. He is great. If your new to having a gun or you need the right knowledge go to him.
Ive bought several guns here and have always had a decent experience. Staff are reasonably knowledgeable and can show you what you are interested in and recommend other alternatives. The range is also quite nice and the range officers are good.
Great people at Hoover Tactical. I was scared of guns but took a class (with my family). I have a whole different outlook. The class was the best money I have ever spent. Guys and gals in the range are great. Sales has always been great. Very knowledgeable and realistic. I like them all so much I have made three significant purchases with them. Highly recommend
Initially everything went pretty smooth in the purchase of two guns. However employees are a bit rude, and do not take kindly to questions. So if you have questions, donβt ask.
I went to the range because I was arriving from out of state and they use to have a decent amount of rentals. Brought my first time shooting gf and two experienced shooters. We were a bit apprehensive as Hoover Tactical has always been a very political business. We arrived and as soon as we got to the counter the staff (read; one person in particular) slowed our checkout to a crawl to express his opinions on where we came from. While we mostly laughed for off as he was a young man and I remember being young and dumb but it was very unprofessional.Tell your staff to cool it with customers from out of state.Range was nice.
Sales team for gun sales are super unhelpful. They make you feel like theyre doing you a favor by allowing you to shop at Hoover Tac. Youre a gun store clerk, not the god of guns. I have talked to lots of gun guys and everyone says the same thing Hoover tactical is a toxic store. Get some customer service or find other jobs.
Visited the store, 04-15-16, had a very nice experience. My salesman, Thatcher, was extremely knowledgeable, very pleasant and with a lot of patience helped me find just what I needed. These folks have good prices and plenty of inventory. Sure enjoyed my visit and will return.Almost did not visit this store because of the negative reviews. All I can say is, forget the old reviews and check this place out. It sure has changed.
I have purchased several firearms from HT. Up until my most recent purchase with my wife i have never really had an issue. First off no one even asks if they can help you. everyone stands around shooting crap. When you do get someoneβs attention they are too busy cleaning a leather knife case to even really explain anything or talk. Not to mention their gift card policy. When purchasing a gift card you have to tell them who it is for. The gift cards never expire. Awesome right? yes unless the person who bought it takes their receipt back up there without the gift card and cashes in making you look like an idiot. After 2 days and 2-3 managers someone already used that gift card sorry we canβt give you any details nor offer any compensation. Buyer BEWARE. I will take my money elsewhere from now on.
Hoover Tactical Firearms. The establishment was amazing. Its a clean and healthy environment. The salesmen and gun reps knew exactly what they were talking about and could answer any questions i had. The range was nice and organized and they got me on a lane very fast. This store is amazing and i had a great time here. I plan to come back many times in the future.
Its a pretty bad environment. Attendant would only speak to my husband, ignored me and our black friend with us. Lots of anti-Obama art work. I now purposely go out of my way not to spend money there..
Went there Friday around 2PM. Waited five minutes to sign up for pistol range - normally not a big deal but there were four employees at the end of the counter eating pizza. All four saw the line but chose to ignore it. Maybe it was lunch break, if so donβt eat at the customer counter. They act as if they are the only game in town. While that was true for while it is not any longer.
Friendly, safe comfortable place to shoot (your own or rent one) or look for a purchase.
Great place
Great place for indoor shooting. Staff are very helpful, and try to move everyone through efficiently, without rushing. I was able to get in the lineup for the pistol range while using the rifle range. The timing worked perfectly, and we transitioned right from one range to the other.
Most of the sales staff doesnt care if you buy anything or not! In early February, I purchased a rifle from HTF. The sales person acted as if I was wasting his time (looking around, rushing me to give the firearm back to him, etc.) I liked the rifle anyway, so I bought it right then and there. I went back last Thursday evening to look for another rifle. Barry helped me (great guy, very patient), but I wanted to think about it overnight. I called Friday to confirm the price. I was put on hold 3 times for over 10 minutes each time. I was eventually told that they didnt have the rifle. I went in the store about an hour later and it was hanging in the middle of the wall! The store was empty, but the 3 sales guys ignored me for over 5 minutes. They were always so receptive in the old location! I guess I dont fit into their class anymore! Its going to be hard to pay the mortgage if they run off all their cash paying customers! Theyll get no more of mine!
Wonderful staff. Prices seem fair. Instead of just trying to sell us some fancy new-fangled weapon, they got us to try out a few different pistols. While out on the range my wife got nervous and sensory overloaded. She went out of the range and the owner seeing her distraught got her to try a .22 and coaxed her back. He was very kind and gave her some advice and helped her to calm down. All around a wonderful experience and I hope to be back soon.
I have been in the store 6 times in the last 3 months and 1 time was a good experience. If you are not purchasing one of their overpriced firearms they dont have time for you . If you ask a question about a product if your lucky enough to get a response it is usually met with an arrogant know it all response . So sad, this place could be great with the right management
I went inside the store today looking for some 40. Caliber ammunition.I asked the older gentleman behind the counter if they had any.i guess that was the wrong question.. He said its in the back in a nasty tone.well i left my debit card in my gym bag and only had cash so i asked how much was it ? He replied as if he was talking to a child, i dont know Im not back there. But understand this i thank God Im not the person i was a few years ago because i give respect to anyone but this old guy is just a rude little stump of a man. I wont be going back there at all..Hopefully i will see him somewhere on the street and see if he has that smart mouth again. Lol lol
We had a great experience yesterday. We spent a couple of hours at the range to find the best fit for our purchase. The staff in the retail sales area was educational and helpful, but not pushy. Their support helped us make our first purchase. We will be back.
HTC has the best indoor range in the Metro area, though frankly theres not a lot of competition for that honor. Its clean, well lit, and well-maintained, with a dozen lanes for pistols and a separate set of lanes for long guns. Everything works, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Its affordable, if not cheap, and is worth the time to visit.
Hoover Tactical has a wide selection of firearms in the main sales area. My wife and I were greeted by an employee when we entered the store. However, the sales staff seemed uninterested in answering our questions. The shooting range was crowded for a Saturday morning, but the range staff were still very helpful. The quality customer service of the range staff was the only positive aspect of our visit.
I had a great experience at Hoover Tactical. Barry was knowledgeable and friendly, and I liked the option of doing a test drive with a pistol before purchase. I ended up purchasing a S&W Shield 9mm for a good price. The facility was clean and safe, and, as a woman, I will feel comfortable going back up to Hoover Tactical to shoot often.
I rate this range EXCELLENT! I am not from this area and once I found the location on Google I read the poor and nutty reviews, what a joke. One of the better ranges Ive been to. The range staff was great, and the gun shop staff was also excellent. Barry was helpful and knowledgeable answering my questions about a specific gun. As far as the review someone left about not getting any help, I have to question that. Myself and an additional six other plus people who were coming into and out of the gun store area were all being helped as needed.
Great firing range. Large retail area. Staff has been very helpful. I thoroughly enjoy my time there!
Great indoor range. Prices can be a little steep, but that is due to the fact that they are basically the only gig in town like this. Staff are always friendly. Their selection of ammo is decent.
Disregard there website stating the gun range is open til 7:00pm . I walked in at 5:58 after driving an hour to get here. They state they have already taken there last shooter. Sign stating last shooter on the range at 6???
Great place to shoot. If youre looking to purchase a firearm, but would like to test fire a model youre interested in, they generally have one available to test for a reasonable fee. Usually busy on weekends. They also sell accessories for popular weapons and have some tactical bags and holsters for sale.
Dont waste your time spent 45min trying to buy a pistol today while all 4 guys just ignored me. Want ever step foot back in there!!!!!!
Excellent selection, knowledgeable staff. Prices were good. Range wait can be an issue on busy days but if you go early it is quiet.
Gun are overpriced. Employees seem burdened by your question and overall business. No one Ive interacted with has shown any real interest in greeting you or trying to help you with any question you may have. Most of the personnel dont seem knowledgeable in any of the firearms. I tried calling them earlier today and I couldnt get any help from anyone on the phone. It is like we were playing phone tag. They kept transferring me around to different people who couldnt answer my one question so they in turn transferred me to someone else. This went on for 30 minutes until I finally hung up. Very unprofessional and I will be taking my business elsewhere. The only thing I have enjoyed about them is their indoor range. Its convenient but even the range rounds are too expensive 18$ a box is ridiculous.
Love this place, bought my first pistol here and the employees are really knowledgeable. They have a indoor pistol and rifle range where you can rent guns at a reasonable price.
Great service and firearms. I use their range a lot. Great range prices.
Great gun range. Earl I believe is the guys name, but he is awesome very helpful and actually cares to help the customer. I love shooting here, best in town if you ask me.
