Excellent people- I wasnt even a customer and these guys helped me recover my stolen bike!!! 4 months ago we gave them a description and our contact info and this weekend they forwarded us a Facebook marketplace post that they thought could have been our bike (spoiler alert: it was our bike). We were able to recover it thanks to these guys. We definitely recommend their business and outstanding customer service!
Not only are they good at what they do, they have truly outstanding customer service. They offered to service an old stationary bike that I own, even though it doesnt quite fit within what they normally work on. They were quick to diagnose the issue and get it fixed. It was also wonderful to see the care they gave to a customer that was buying a refurbished bike. They walked him through the weird quirks of the shifters on that particular model and make sure he felt comfortable with it. Their prices are extremely reasonable. I was also interested to see they offer maintenance classes as well. I cannot say enough good things about Redemptive Cycles.
Huge variety of used (and new) parts at great prices. And they are super friendly and helpful!
Had a tune-up and some brake work done on my Specialized Rockhopper from the 90s that I purchased second-hand off Craigslist. The staff was very friendly, they complimented my bike, and the whole drop-off process was very simple. Previous to the tune-up, I was having gear-shift problems and a non-functioning hand brake, now my bike rides like a dream (they even tightened the screw on the drink holder, which I forgot to mention to them!)!!
Best Bike Place On The Planet. They Love People Just As Much As They Love Bikes. THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE WITH BUSINESS LIKE THIS!!!...They Work With Any Budget And Situation And Rehabilitate People In Need Through Programs...Really An Inspiration For The City Of Birmingham ❤️💡✊🏾
Awesome place. I had a bad cable on my road bike replaced ... in and out in under 15 minutes.
Great people. Wonderful ministry.
Absolutely wonderful bike shop. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. They are giving back to the community and are great. Only issue is limited parking.
I brought by a bike I recently purchased to have the rear derailleur looked at. D was incredibly friendly and informative as he worked on the bike. He took his time to look over other aspects of the bike as well. I had a really great experience and will be back for future tune-ups!
I love Redemptive! These guys are the best. Quality service at great price. The mechanics are very careful scrutinizing every detail of mechanical specifications. They are willing to go above and beyond the typical shop to help out. They will even work for a discount if you bring them some beer!Great place to spend an afternoon working on your bike with a six pack. The mechanics are patient in helping you perform basic fixes and tune ups. They have huge hearts allowing members of the community to exchange volunteer hours in order to earn discounted or even free bikes as a means of transportation.Give them your business and your spare parts! It wont go to waste.
Staff is always willing to help new and returning customers who love bikes.Thank you for being here for the community.
I cannot recommend Redemptive Cycles enough. They are nonprofit and are, in my opinion, the best cycle shop in town. Excellent prices, friendly knowledgeable staff, and a very cool shop. If youre in need of a bike, equipment, advice, etc., go by there!!!! You wont regret it.
Redemptive is not your typical bike shop. As a nonprofit shop, they do more than sales and repairs. They also work hard to equip Birminghams in-need communities with bikes and service as a means of transportation. At the end of the day, Redemptive is just full of really good people. Theyre also informative and refreshingly patient, which seems to be a frustratingly rare quality for local shops. If youre new to cycling or just want to support a business that does more for the greater cycling community in Birmingham, this would absolutely be my recommendation.
Purchased my first bicycle in over 25 years from them. They were more than helpful throughout the process. Answered all of my questions in a way that a beginner could grasp. I felt that they really wanted me to purchase the correct bike for me.
One of the best bike shops I ever seen theyre frandly cool and honest the priceses can not be beat
The crew at Redemptive Cycles is by far, the best cycle crew in the city. During the pandemic I understand the bike community has had an influx of riders all while supplies are extremely limited. This puts a lot of strain on the bike shops around the Birmingham area. I know many of the shops are overwhelmed, understaffed, and flat out tired from the amount of work they’ve had. You can sense this with all the other bike shops in the city except for the crew at Redemptive Cycles. They made me feel welcomed, important, and appreciated for stopping by. This is the first time I’ve experienced this from a bike shop since beginning riding. I’m new to the community and have a lack of knowledge with the things I needed to repair my bike but they didn’t hesitate to help educate and figure out how to help. I’ve been unable to ride for several weeks due to a broken part that normally would be easy to find in different circumstances. They had just what I needed and can’t wait to ride again this weekend. I can share that for someone who lives in Chelsea, AL, this will be the only shop I use moving forward. Thank you guys for just having great customer service.
The team at Redemptive is always eager to help. Can’t say enough good things about my experience there!
This shop is a dream come true. I pushed in my bike in with a flat and they had me out the door in 20 min. They sell used accessories as well as new and are just generally nice people.
Cool City bike shop that serves the whole community, not just the college students. Great for the folks on a tight budget and the urban warriors. Great people run it. Shop for your superbike elsewhere (or order a fancy Indy brand from them if you know what you want), but get anything serviced here. Their service rates are half of a regular bike shops. Donate your bike here, and they can refurbish it and give it back to the community. If you are flat broke, volunteer at the shop and earn credits for a bike.
Nice bicycle shop, that works on them and sells them also. Pretty expensive top of the line bikes, though.
Hadnt had much cause to visit a bicycle repair shop before but I recognize good service. 15m wheel replacement from walk up to completion. Nice staff. Recommend if youre in need of a repair. Even had a nice patio waiting area that was aided by lovely weather that day.
These ladies and gentlemen are always ready to help. They have been able to get me back on my bike as quick as possible, because this is how I get to work and the store. Even with a limited amount of parts, they will do what they can to get you on the road again. Thanks again guys for all you do.
Definitely a cyclist dream come true, Stop by an check it out, Great service, Great people working there
Daniel, Daniel, Daniel..... I cannot speak highly enough about this business. They are very professional, swift and very patient with new bike owners and riders. Daniel got me up and running and calmed my anxiety. Im definitely giving them my business in the future.
They made a really great impression on my 15 year old after going in to get his tire repaired. Its not easy to make a good impression on a 15 year old LOL! Well be going back!
Great location for bike repairs. Wonderful staff and very smart.
Knowledgeable and highly skilled bike people. They are nice and polite too!
Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and honest staff. Great quality work, great prices. Couldn’t ask for a better local bike shop!
How is it even possible to have such a good bike shop as this. They really are kind and strive to please. I cant even tell you. Give them all your business, forget any place else.
The quality and service of this shop can not be beat. My husband and I are newbies when it comes to bikes and the friendly staff there helped us fix a few small problems and taught us a few things along the way. We told them we were about to move to Portland so they even performed a safety check on both of our bikes free of charge. They also have a huge community support program. Great place!
Friendly staff, price also good and clean place.
Awesome bike shop
The best place on earth.
Always a great experience, best group of guys in downtown bham. Only ones I trust with my bike!!!
D was great. He gave me great advice and sold me a great grips at very low price!
The people are cool, knowledgeable and helpfu . I had to bikes repaired and tuned up here. Price is very reasonable.
Attentive service in a cozy shop.
The service was great they gave me the best service
Brought my heavy, commuter, electric bike in for new brake and shift cables, disk brake pads, and lesson to help me swap the long chain. Price was less than half what my former shop would have charged, no problems with the work as of two weeks later. The public bike repair station is great. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Feels good to support a redemptive cause. Highly recommended.
I love this place!!! I live in Homewood and still go Downtown to see them for all my bike’s care. They have a workstation that you can work on your own bike there! They also are amazing for the community, allowing people to do volunteer hours in exchange for their own bike! I only paid $12 for a new inter tube and they pumped up my tires!! Thanks!
Friendly & knowledge staff...Extremely accommodating in spite of Covid 19 (theyve taken measures not to infect themselves or their customers)...excellent bike repair at a reasonable price....
Absolutely amazing customer service and incredibly positive atmosphere. The services that these guys are providing to the community are a breath of fresh air. The would be profits of their sales go towards the community in offering those with less resources a chance to do community service in exchange for a bike. The guy that was helping me and my family out was very informative and seemed very knowledgeable. I didnt feel any pressure to buy anything while Im there and felt like they went the extra mile. They offer a place to come and do work on your ride and even have tools and will help you out with your repairs. In addition they offer very affordable classes that start at only $5 for a 90 minute class.
I was interested in getting a bike. It has been a long time since I rode one. I looked online and love what Redemptive Cycle stands for in the community. When I went to the business, Ryan was friendly and helpful in finding a bike that fits me. I enjoyed my time at the business. I will definitely tell my friends about this great business.
Love the service and the owner is very knowledgeable about bicycles. Had a repair done in less than 20 minutes with parts that are in stock and didnt cost much at all. Definitely would recommend for any bicycle issues.
East Lake Trample never disappoints!! What a great ride over 120 people. Redemptive Cycle did a great job on this ride and kept everyone safe. This is a must if you ride.
Quick fix on my sons bike. In and out.
The very friendly and knowledgeable staff did an amazing job fixing my sons bike, at minimal cost! Very pleased with the service we received here. They are committed to fostering the biking community of Birmingham.
Competent, trustworthy, friendly, in a space with a great vibe. Dropped my old Raleigh mountain bike off with broken shifters and stretched cables and got it back nicely shifting and ready to ride. No trying to sell me additional stuff or accessories, no nudging me to give up on a 20+ year old steel frame bike. Good place!
Nice service!
I bought my bike from here a while back, and the service was EXCELLENT! So friendly and helpful for all maintenance needs afterwards as well. Good place, good cause, good people!
They had just what I was looking for. Staff was friendly and the shop was easy to find thanks to google. Had a blast riding through downtown Birmingham on my unicycle to visit the shop. Thanks again for the Kryptonite lock!
Everybody has an awesome attitude friendly nice courteous everybody is smiling that works there they do good stuff they help people I like that
This shop has helped me get the right gear and fixed my bike. Very nice people and reasonable prices. There are bike rides through the city on different days so you should stop by to check it out.
Get to know your local bike shop, they will become your pitstop for any minor annoyance your bike has, and youll learn a lot from their skilled performance and maintenance. I highly recommend
These guys were professional and nice. My sons chain wouldnt stay on his bike. Dude got off his lunch n fixed it FOR FREE!!!
Just took the beginners course on maintaining your bike. Very hands on and informative setting. Good class.
Great place for bike repair they offer classes lets just say they treat you like a family i loved my experience there
Got some good information about my bikes
This is my opinion after Ryan left I thought it would be hard for them to live up to Ryan standards and general his way of handling people and business. But this is not the case they have exceeded all expectations! One example I drive a motorized bicycle also also three other non-motorized the mechanic there brought Wheels I had ordered to my house on the way home, also showed me and install a clutch cable on motorized moto bike yeah I know! It is definitely not the norm so dont get me in trouble but they are the best ever. Ive been run over by car twice and an employee there was just hit by a car. I have a bumper sticker on a telephone pole on 48th Street Avondale anybody needs anything stop I will help. Thank you Redemptive and all the employees there
Even though these guys are all backed up with work, they still found the time to fix my bike, same day!! Took literally 8minutes for them to take a broken bike, beaten by the heavily salted roads of Toronto to tip top working condition!!! I tipped them, twice! 🙏
Visit to view their bicycle selection, stay to converse with the amazing group of staff and volunteers, leave with a renewed faith in humanity. Sound crazy? Try it. Redemptive is the epitome of a charitable business. All profits go directly towards their charitable endeavors in the community. The most notable effort is their Earn-A-Bike program which allows individuals with economic hardship and no other form of transportation work/learn in their shop for a set period of time (a days work, 8-12hrs) to earn a bicycle and gear which is theirs to keep. They treat EVERYONE who walks in their shop as a human with something to contribute to the conversation, this includes the many homeless folks who come here looking for help. These guys would give the shirt off their backs to a stranger and they do so proverbially every single day. Monday nights there are fantastic yoga classes ($5, yall! thats crazy!), they have mechanics classes on other nights and a top-notch group ride every Thursday night at 6:30. 5-stars just doesnt seem enough for all the goodness contained in this shop.
Nice bikes i done 8 hours commumity service and 4 hours at the bike shop and im rolling
Only been one time but cant to go back. Lots of really cool cycles and great hearts. They took a load of bikes down to Central America!
Friendly, knowledgeable people. Have a deal to allow you to work to earn a bike.
First class service!
Highly recommended customer service along with product knowledge is second to none.
Went with my sister the lady gave me a really nasty attitude like I was bothering her and ignored me several times.
Very reasonable rates and fast service.
These guys are good, they are trustworthy and do a good job. They have a lot of good merchandise, bike accessories, new and used bikes and even some consignment bikes.
They are wonderful at fixing stuff! Theyll sell you a bike too!
Great work keeping my 20 year old bike running like new!
Great place for bike repairs
It was my first week in Birmingham, I didnt know anyone and bought a new bike, then visit to view their bicycle selection and tune up my new one. I dont know what to say about the amazing group of staff and volunteers, leave with a renewed faith in humanity. Sound crazy? Try it.I want to mention one thing happens to me, my bike has been stolen after a month. And my friend gave me his old bike till I can afford a new one, but it needed a lot of work and many things to be fixed. I went to Furman (The owner I think, who became my friend) And he surprised me by giving me bike from the store for free till he fix my bike!! I told him that you dont have to do that, but he insisted!Redemptive is the epitome of a charitable business. Ask for Ryan also, a very kind gentleman who taught me how to fix my bike with myself. I really love this place! Ahmed Radwan.
I love this place. Ive bought two bikes there and parts and have had repairs done.
Take off your helmet and salute these guys for running the best used bike shop in Bham.Got a tune-up and am rolling higher than ever. But seriously, I was super impressed by their selection—and it keeps growing!
So glad to have a store like this in Birmingham!
In recent months, a friend of mine had been showing some interest getting back in the saddle, and was considering either fixing his 15 year-old bike, or purchasing a new one. The old bike had become a nightmare to shift, and we figured it was perhaps associated with the chain or worn out teeth on the crankset. Considering the age of the bike, and not really knowing if the potential cost of repairs were justified when a newer bike might provide an improved ride, he was considering the purchase of a new/used bike for perhaps a little more than twice the potential cost of what the repairs might be. We considered rolling down the street to one of the very well established bike shops about a mile from my front door in Homewood. We could request a diagnosis and estimate, and while Im sure they wouldve done good work, from my past experience I felt pretty sure that we wouldnt have seen the bike again in time to actually get a ride in (not to mention $$$). So instead, I suggested we first check out a downtown shop Id heard about from a friend I sometimes ride with. He had told me that it was an awesome little hub for Birmingham cyclists who appreciate the sense of community that cycling offers. He also knew how I enjoy learning new things, and mentioned that the place had a special appeal for those who wish to learn more about bicycle maintenance and repair. So my friend and I loaded up our bikes and headed downtown. We arrived perhaps around lunch time on a Thursday afternoon. We walked in through an open front area and were impressed w/ the stock of gear, plus new & refurbished bikes- even seeing a shorter model of the same year Trek my friend was bringing in. We followed the sound of chattering voices toward the back of the place and walked into an open workshop. We were immediately greeted and after explaining our reasons for stopping in, they asked us to bring the bike on back. Perhaps 90 minutes later we found ourselves enjoying an awesome afternoon ride. And during those 90 minutes, we learned all about how the action of the gear shifting (AKA, derailleures) can be hindered by old, corroded, cables and sheathing and should be replaced at least every year or two. The mechanic, who introduced himself as Furman, did an outstanding job at diagnosing the problem and demonstrating how everything tied together. He then provided us with a step-by-step explanation as he performed the replacement. After having the rear derailleur adjusted, cable replaced, and shifter cleaned up, my friend took the bike for a test drive and said it was like night and day; crisp and smooth. My friend then asked if he could go ahead and have the rest of the cables replaced and components tuned up, and I think this is a good point at which to emphasize why this experience felt so special- the guy couldve felt like hed expended enough energy on instruction and explanation, and dismissed us while he expedited the task. Instead, he recognized that we were genuinely interested, and was kind enough to answer any questions we had while also providing reinforcement as some of the familiar steps were repeated. He was also great at capturing opportunities for some additional mechanical nuances to be explained. The final bill for the materials + labor felt like an extremely good deal, especially considering the benefit of all we learned. My friend says that he feels like hes riding a brand new bike, and we still managed to enjoy a great afternoon ride. I also felt comfortable enough that I went online last night and ordered the kits to do the same maintenance to my own bike. So yeah, first impressions- Im obviously a fan of this place. Its great to see more and more bikes on the streets of Bham, and it warms my heart to see businesses like this one living their values and simultaneously contributing to the progressive momentum you can see and feel in the community of Birmingham. I hope youll check this place out.
Brought My Bike in Friday, He was suppose to call Me back about My Estimate for My Bike, but never did. I have to call Him, and remind Him of My Estimate. Poor Business Handling.
The staff is awesome and helpful. Not to mention the vibrant community of cyclists and casual riders surrounding this shop.
I ride my bike ten miles a day. Every time Ive gotten it fixed at Redemptive, it has worked problem-free for months.
The people were so nice and helpful
