I highly recommend this location. If you want your auto fixed right the first time take it to the 6th avenue location. If you are self diagnosing your vehicle, then you might want to fix it yourself, but if you want professional, experienced mechanics to diagnose and repair your vehicle this is the place to be. They did great work on my transmission had it ready in less then a week and running better then ever

Called them early in the morning needing a tune up for 1975 cadillac nothing crazy they said I could come by until I asked them if its ok I had a classic car and as soon as I asked seemed like I was asking them to install a new engine in it its not a model T or a yugo wouldnt recommend if you own a older car

I cannot recommend the guys at AAMCO enough. Over the last 3 months, my truck has been in and out of their shop (due to my truck’s issues, not AAMCO’s). Each time, they were honest, fair priced, and went above and beyond to find the issue and offer a solution - whether that meant fixing it themselves or pointing me to another shop that specialized in what I needed. Stephen, Gus, and the rest of the team took great care of us!

Cant say enough about Rick and his team at AAMCO. Unfortunately, the extended warranty company on my truck is a joke. And thats just the truth. If you can avoid it - do not use Penn Warranty Corporation.Rick has fought on my behalf to make sure the work on my truck was covered, as it should be. He is fun to deal with and is honestly just a good guy. After doing a bunch of work and the warranty company telling him to tow the truck to someone else (to avoid having to pay), he is still helping me out. He couldve given up on me and the warranty company - and tried to get me to pay out of pocket. But he didnt.I fully recommend this AAMCO as they have the best interest of the customer in mind.

They rebuild my transmission and put a new alternator and pulley on my car ! Professionals.

Came in from running hot, turned out to be that the last time this car was worked on a hose had been replaced incorrectly and all the coolant had leaked out. Luckily we were coming from the VA hospital and this shop was about a block away. They fixed the hose and replaced the coolant and within an hour we were back on the road. Everyone was friendly and we made very pleasant conversation with Gus at the front desk. Big thanks to these fine gents.

Me, my husband, and our 5 children stopped in Birmingham, Al. to have our Infiniti truck looked at after towing a trailer from South Carolina. Our truck was not driving as we expected so we called in to have it looked at. They did everything to check for any issues our truck may have had. They drove it to see exactly the issue we were concerned about. Not to mention they accommodated our entire family of 7 while we waited a couple hours for them to check it out. Turned out everything was better than we thought. Steve was our mechanic and he was very informative and squeezed us right in and got it done. We are now able to continue our journey from South Carolina to Arkansas!!!

We are from Walker county. Went to Birmingham for an appointment at the VA. We saw fluid in the parking deck but thought it was from the AC. Went around the block and the car started running hot. We had passed Aamco so baxk around the block and pulled in. They stopped what they were working on to take a look and were able to fix the problem in a very short time. Eric, Rick, and the team at this AAMCO location do great work and are professional in all aspects of service. My transmission failed and left me stranded. Called this AAMCO and they recommended a tow service and called me early the next day with service options. I even called a relative who is an expert in all things auto for a second opinion and he told me it sounded like a good deal. My car shifts gears smoothly now and I have a 3 year warranty on this transmission work. This staff went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of as a customer and it is greatly appreciated. A couple weeks ago, I was told by another repair shop I would need a new transmission, so I called this place asking for a quote. Mr. Rick answered my phone call and recommended I bring it to the shop so they could check it to make sure that was the case. It turned out, it was a minor repair which saved me over a thousand dollars probably. 2 weeks later and my car is running smooth and great. It is great to know there are still honest people around here. Mr Rick was awesome to deal with and his son who works at the front desk was also very kind as well as one of the technicians I met. I recommend all of my family and friends to come here for mechanical repairs from now on!!! I came in as a stranger and felt as if I left as a friend.

Very fast and reliable. I got my car in and out today at a very reasonable price! Gus whom I believe is a manager at the front desk was very friendly and helpful over the phone as well as in person & The owner (Rick) was also extremely nice and true to his word. They even gave me a ride to work, Gave me a courtesy check and called before starting any kind of work on my Hyundai. Don’t go to another mechanic in Birmingham. These guys treat you like family instead of a bank account. Have been to numerous auto shops around the city and can’t find one better than them. They’ll check out your car for free and tell you what you need. A bunch of great guys here that do exceptional work. BEST PLACE IN TOWN!

A good friend reccomend me to go to Aamco on 6th Ave South.I came in with my car in pretty bad shape. You name it I had issues from A to Z. From a bad transmission, taillight, review mirror, windshield wipers, interior lights, oh trust me the list goes on....Aamco Team was there. My car even went out on me on their normal business off day, they were still there to make sure I had the services I needed. I never experienced service to this extent. Mr. Stephen explained the needed repairs very clearly, and I was surprised by how quickly they were able to complete them! So far, results have been fantastic, and I would definitely recommend them to others.

Here my car got the transmission rebuilt, torque converter changed, etc... I paid over 2K bucks for the repair with 3-year warranty. Now my car is shifting gears kinda funny, sometimes earlier than should, sometimes later... So, I took the car back to AAMCO because is still on warranty. After the 1st workday, I did not get a phone call. Seem like they are not used to customers or they dont know that they are supposed to call the customer even if did not have time to check the car. I would appreciate a courtesy call and a reasonable plan to fix the issue, lets see how long that takes. Unfortunately, today will have to walk home. I will continue updating this post...The second day, 1st thing in the morning I got the call. One positive aspect about this Shop is that they keep their eyes on the rates and reviews. Looks like the previous owner messed up very bad with customers and the new people at the shop are trying very hard to fix the bad reputation. By phone, I got a fair enough excuse of why they did not call me yesterday and they have a plan to fix the car issue, which btw should not cost me a dime because the transmission rebuild is still on warranty...

My check engine light was signaling that something was wrong with my transmission. Both Mr. Eric and Mr. Rick did everything they could do to get me back on the road quickly and without it costing an arm and a leg. I wouldnt hesitate to use this location again, and definitely recommend them.

Did a great job on my transmission

Working in the auto business I know of many places to get vehicles worked on but I chose AAMCO Transmission downtown 6th ave south to do an engine swap. They had my vehicle a total of a day and a half and I was back on the road good as new. The work was awesome and the price was great. Erick And Rick will bend over backward to make sure you are treated fairly before and after the sale.

Always my go to place whenever I need one of my cars repaired or service. No automotive issue is too large or small for these guys. I always leave feeling confident that my automobile has been repaired correctly and at a fair price. I appreciate the prompt, friendly service and quick turn around. Highly recommended.

I run a business that specifically deals with one brand. I received a call from them about a problem they were having with a vehicle. We took the time to find out what the manufacture required to fix this issue. Plus we had seen this problem before. We told them what parts were needed for the repair so the customers car would be repaired long term. We sent the parts that were needed and a few days later they returned have the parts and said the car was repaired. OK... I dont know what he did but I do know they did not fix the car they way the manufacture suggested. Burke the owner originally paid with a check. So I had him a check cut for the returns which he cashed the next day. Then my business office tells me he canceled the original check he used to pay for the parts. I called and he told me several times he would come by and pay for the parts. This was the first couple times he lied to me. Finally I drove to his business and talked face to face where he gave me some excuse why he did not have the funds but he would pay tomorrow. It was always tomorrow. I would pull up and he would run and jump in his car and drive off like a coward. Even his own employees said he was a layer. So do yourself a favor and find another repair shop. And if you own a shop and do business with Burke DONT TAKE A CHECK (CASH ONLY!) To this day he has not paid a dime of his bill. And I am sure if I called he would lie to me right now!

If I could rate this AAMCO center a half star I would. We received really bad service. I assumed this franchise was rebuilding my transmission but later discovered to my surprise the location wrote the repair ticket in more vague terms describing the work as a recondition transmission with specifics about what was repaired. I took this car in to this location three times each time the work took 1-2 weeks for the same repair. The last time this franchise kept my car for three weeks provided a rental car for one of those weeks. A got the car back only to discover the D5 LED was flashing indicating a high pressure switch problem which was denied by this franchise as a warranty item! Use them at your own risk!

My transmission went out on my 2010 BMW 5 series. This Ammco rebuilt my transmission for $1500 less than the quote I was given by my local Ammco here in Anniston. Friendly people and was a pleasure to do business with. My BMW drives great again. Hopefully the longevity of the rebuild will be as good as the service that was provided. Thanks guys.

Update: Eric and Rick at AAMCO treat you like family. They will work with you and give you a good deal. They go above and beyond to find out whats going on with your vehicle and fix it in the most affordable way possible.I can’t say enough about Eric (manager) and Rick (owner) at Aamco in Southside. They did a lot of work on my old(er) Honda that turned out to be more complicated than expected. When the car continued to have issues, they went above and beyond even at their own expense. Call them if you want a mechanic that actually cares about you and your wallet.

Went their one day and they told me that a hose from my transmission needed to be tightened. all they charged me was for the transmission fluid that they put back in my car. Im pretty sure they could of charged me way more.

I brought my 2006 ford freestar down to have tranny rebuilt. There was a issue I had to bring my van back 3xs they stuck with it and fixed the issue. I couldnt be happier with Eric the manager. Great price, service, warranty, and customer service. I will recomended them to everybody I know

Highest recommendation. An incredibly knowledgable staff that really thinks outside of the box. I brought my car to them, they diagnosed the problem, and discovered that the issue had been subject to a factory recall and could be repaired at my dealership for free. The guys at AAMCO could have fixed it, charged me and I would have been none the wiser. I respect that level of integrity and will always know that any repair is being done professionally and honestly.
