Had the most atrocious experience. My sister and I are African American and the two friends we went out to breakfast with are Caucasian and mixed. The waitress was extremely rude to us while polite to our friends. First, they took extremely long to bring out our food. We noticed the food was on the wrong plates so we were slightly confused. Next, when we tried to get our meal fixed because the food was on the wrong plates she loudly announced we “didn’t know what we ordered” and when we were given our food and drinks we were given smaller glasses than everyone else in the restaurant. I left no tip and a note on the receipt explaining I didn’t appreciate the comment or the treatment and the WAITRESS STARTED SCREAMING AT ME AND FOLLOWED US OUT OF THE RESTAURANT TO FLIP US OFF! Never in my life have I had that experience. I work in customer service and never in my life have I ever done that at a job. If I would I most definitely be fired. Utterly appalled. Just utterly appalled.
Great food. We both had the Irish Benedict and it was delicious! Nice little place with a good vibe. Great street views to people watch. Service was excellent. Would reccomend.
The best breakfast! The food, coffee and service were top notch.2 eggs, potatoes, 2 sausage with toast and 2 extra large pancakes.We were only in the area for the day and we will never forget this breakfast.
I used to love this place… I placed a to go order of 4 breakfast sandwiches and a bagel with cream cheese for $58.00…. Not one of the sandwiches had cheese on it the home fries were hard and almost raw, my grandsons bagel was burnt and he wouldn’t even eat… very disappointed for the amount of money u spend they can at the very least make sure the order is correct and edible… very sad
Oh my god.. this place has everything. Polite waitresses, incredible food, and just the right amount of sass. Had a great lazy Sunday breakfast. I hear the beans are incredible, but I think beans in general taste like dirt so I couldn’t tell ya. Pete loved em though. Chocolate chip pancakes? Absolute GASOh! And they have several different color tortillas apparently.

We just moved to the neighborhood. My husband enjoyed the huevos rancheros wrap. My lobster benedict was to die for! lots of great claw and tail meat, the hollandaise was rich and had a perfectly cooked egg. Friendly staff, good coffee. A perfect place to have brunch and watch the people of Cabot Street.
If you are ever in Beverly, MA they serve a very large breakfast that was delicious. A really cute diner.

The food quality is still pretty good, but everything else has gone downhill. Ever since they renovated and went for the bougie gentrified aesthetic, their prices have gone way up, the service is barely polite, and the whole atmosphere is just cold and overly modern (and somehow dirtier? There were flies around). I miss the welcoming, home-cooked vibe of Cityside Diner. I know competition can be tough in Beverly, but I wish theyd stuck to what they were good at rather than losing sight of what made them such a wonderful restaurant. Will likely no longer be eating here; just not the same place anymore.
What a great meal! There was a wait when we got there but it moved quickly. Our server was friendly and efficient and we had our good within 10 minutes of ordering. Everything was delicious, especially the homies Looking forward to returning
My husband and I stopped in early this morning (Sunday). This was our first visit. Perfect diner atmosphere with a fresh, updated feel. Indoor and outdoor seating were both available, but we chose a spot near the window. Service was fast and friendly, multiple refills of coffee were offered, and we both agreed it was the best restaurant breakfast we had in years. We will be back!
Im getting the sense that breakfast is really the time to come here, because lunch was a big disappointment. Really overpriced sandwiches that dont come with anything—$18 for a sandwich and iced tea is just nuts. I thought for that price the fried chicken sandwich would be awesome but there was nothing special about it. Flip the bird is way better and cheaper. Waitress was friendly but I had to ask for silverware and a napkin after she brought out my order.
The food is amazing!The ingredients they used is fresh, good quality and their coffee is perfect .I will recommend it to all my friends.

Tough to write this because the food was tasty and being from LA, I was dazzled by the Beverly neighborhood with all its charm. The waitresses on the other hand, seemed disappointed to see a group of two families with 4 small kids. My husband and his friend immediately noted the rude service and reflected their disappointment through a $5 tip….I was unaware of the tip, but when my husband was in the bathroom the waitress brought it up to me and went on to explain that the numbers at the bottom of the receipt were suggestions of what people SHOULD tip. Lol. It caught me off guard and since my husband is not typically a low tipper I just grabbed another $15 out my purse, but my husband’s friend immediately took a chunk of cash off the table and insisted that the service was poor and the way she approached me about the situation was an additional testament to our waitress’s rude demeanor.GOOD FOOD…but maybe not the best place for out-of-towners with a bunch of little busy kids??? 🤷🏾♀️Just know that the waitresses there are “deserving” of at least 18% of your check whether they give great service or treat you as if your existence in their restaurant is a nuisance.
My first venture out to a restaurant since Covid! The food is amazing and the staff & owner are beyond nice! They made me feel so welcome (I’m up from VA picking up my DD from college). I will definitely be back!

Dont even bother going anywhere else in Beverly for breakfast. This place is amazing. I have had almost everything on the menu and it is all delicious! The staff is friendly and attentive.
Used to love this place - now that it’s under new management, it is a disappointment. My husband and I were seated at a table and given coffee - and then we proceeded to sit in a quiet restaurant for 40 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. We watched people come and go. Not one person checked in with us or spared us a glance. We eventually got up, asked for someone to check us out for our coffee, and we left. Wish I could review the food here because it would probably have been good - never got the chance. Headed out to Depot Diner across town where we experienced incredible service.

City Eats just catered an event for us and everything was absolutely perfect from set up to service and break-down. The food was AMAZING! Every single one of our guest raved about the meal. We over order our food but it all went because everyone want to take food home. Thank you so much for making our day that much more special!
City Eats is great! They were very friendly when I placed my phone order to pick up food. I was greeted right away by attentive and friendly staff when I arrived to pick up my food. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious, large potion size for a sandwich. Their home fries were cooked just right. Loved the iced coffee. Their food was wonderful and I really appreciated how nice everyone was!

City Eats, has always been great woth customer service. I used to go to late night breakfast when it was still called city side and hang out and eat good food with my friends. The servers are always friendly. Today they had a little mishap where they misplaced my order. When i arrived to pick it up they informed me of the issue and took care of me quickly. They even discounted my meal without me asking. Amazing service and extreme care towards their customers. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for some high end diner food!
I went there with my wife at the first time few weeks ago and the food was great and the service was incredible. We went there today and the food again was fresh and delicious and the service was above and beyond! I want to speak to the owner to show my gratitude and I learned that he bought the place only 6 months ago, and how hard they working because it’s not easy those day because of the pandemic! As a chef myself I can highly recommend there food and while you waiting for your food remember that you supporting a small local business that need you NOW more than ever!
City Eats is a wonderful place to grab breakfast or lunch. It used to be cityside, but it was sold and rebranded.They often have a few lobster dishes such as lobster benedict, a stuffy, and lobster rolls. Sometimes the lobster dishes get pricy, but overall it is a very affordable place.My favorite dishes are the lobster benedict and the huevos rancheros wrap.They also offer a catering menu which I have heard is good, but I have not used yet.I go in at least once a week on my day off.
Fortunately the North Shore of MA has a lot of great choices for breakfast diners, but this is a go to favorite for us. Many of the servers have worked here long time they’re fun to talk to and know how to put together a great diner experience. The restaurant is under new management. Dave wants to keep the breakfast magic but wants to also improve on the lunch and dinner menu. All the best.

Love this place! Old fashioned food at its best! Today my husband had grilled cheese with french fries. I had homemade fish chowder with a BLT sandwich. Simple, delicious and satisfying. Everything is made from scratch and it wont break the bank. Definitely recommend.
Hands down an amazing breakfast place!! Homemade hash! Amazing steak tip breakfast w at least more than enough steak! Tender, great flavor! Real maple syrup!!! Great, funny waitresses! Loved that the owner was there and friendly walking around asking about how everything was! Really nice place if youre within 25 miles of the cityside diner I definitely recommend the drive!
Originally had this as 5 stars.....was there just 2 weeks ago and the breakfast was great.. Today Thursday I went in an had the same breakfast.1st the home fries were just warm and some were cold...the eggs were great...the ham was thin, uncooked and just bland..the rye toast were the small end pieces...waitress and coffee was good. Been going there on and off for a few years. MAYBE the cook called in sick....
I was at Cityside Diner at about 10 am this morning. I had a lobster sammich, butter toasted roll little bag o chips and coleslaw. Awesome price and even awesomer help. Kristen, was out of this world and performing like a ballet dancer. Very friendly and prices are spot-on.Give them a try.... highly recommended by me a FOODIE. Love the place Will be back.

Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing atmosphere. Although I do miss the old rustic cityside, it still has delicious food and amazing prices. Their hash browns are TO DIE FOR -- seriously the best Ive ever had. So accommodating, and always pouring you more coffee. Id wait in a line, outside, in a thunderstorm to eat here.
Cityside take out pastrami melt was omg great!!! The toasted bun, with the coleslaw made it delicious. So packed with meat amazing!!! Well be making this a weekly occasion. Thanks for reopening!
Tiny diner with great food and friendly service. Everything we ordered tasted great. The wait wasnt too bad considering there was 8 of us and there isnt much space inside. They really know how to make it work.

Absolutely fantastic. Our server was so sweet and courteous with a smile that never stopped. I had a cup of tea and the water was super hot, while,h I love. I got an egg breakfast and a blueberry pancakes on the side. Eggs were cooked perfectly, toast fabulously buttered and I swear the pancake had a pint of blueberries in it. Great food, diner atmosphere and superb service!!!

Irish omelette (corned beef and onions w/American cheese) was excellent! Home fries are very good. Sourdough toast was excellent. Iced coffee is great! Bear in mind they serve only breakfast on Sundays. I recommend the Cityside very highly!

I dont know whats happened or if theres new people running it but its really gone down in expectation. I remember being served with a good attitude and not having to wait to be seated for 15 minutes when last year the staff was quick to seat you and with respect too.The new waitresses have attitudes and just arent as friendly . The foods been good since 2016 but it really loses its touch with this new staff
Classic diner food in the heart of Beverly. It was pretty good, not great. I would have given four stars, but my order wasnt prepared correctly. I would definitely try them again though

The food was good. The pancakes with blueberries were just ok. But the service was lacking and they werent busy. The corned beef hash and the rye toast were excellent.
Great iced coffee and the staff is friendly. Recommend the Hazelnut flavored. Breakfast is their forté, but the burger was surprisingly good.
Excellent, local diner with a friendly staff and a good menu. Its apparently a favorite spot for the locals as well. Sometimes theres a wait to be seated though.

I agree with a previous reviewer, this diner is indeed a hidden gem. Great lunch special everyday. You get your meal, a drink AND dessert (homemade pie). This place stole my heart one day when I could not decide between the banana cream pie and the strawberry shortcake, the waitress told me that she would take care of it. She came back with Banana cream strawberry shortcake, superb! Great service, great food at an unbelievable price!

Not very appealing presentation of the food. No taste to either of our breakfasts, eggs and pancakes were dry.. Staff seemed to be rushing everything. Have had better pancakes at McDonalds.

Awesome food cooked just the way you like it. Try any of the omelettes, Delish. Great coffee too in a bottomless cup. staff is like family, always friendly with quick witted old-school Yankee humor included for FREE. Cityside is my favorite breakfast place, bar none.

Typical family run dinner, nice people, lots of regulars, good prices. Can be a wait on the weekends in the summer. Located in lovely downtown Beverly. Large-ish parking lots can be found behind the businesses across the street.Update 4/30/2019They freshened up the place with a needed paint job, but have passed the remodeling cost into the customer. Prices are now just silly. This is typical diner food cooked on a grill, no chef, so prices make no sense. We do not eat here anymore.

Friendly wait staff. It was my second time in this diner. The first time we sat by the window. As we waited for our breakfast seated on the bar stool section of the restaurant, I couldnt help but notice all the disgusting bad habits going on from the cooks side. It started with the scratching of the ear and not washing hands. The final straw was watching the cook with long white hair, tied in a lose, messy ponytail, dip bread in a barrel of beaten eggs with her bare hands up to her wrists, to make French toast. She uses the same eggs from that barrel she just dipped her wrists in to make other dishes. Not once did I see washing of the hands from both cooks. These are just a few things Im mentioning but needless to say I will never go back as I was so disgusted It ruined my appetite.
Good place when down town Beverly for a dgood quick meal.
