I usually dont post reviews, but my experience at The Wine Merchant was so terrible that I feel I must comment.We live 2½ hours away from The Wine Merchant in Beverly Hills and for some time had wanted to visit the store and make a special purchase. Ive been interested in specialty wines and champagnes for some time, and had been looking forward to getting something special for my dads birthday. I called a week before and 2 days before our visit to make sure that no appointment was needed. A nice gentleman named Jason said it was not and to just ring the bell when we arrived. On Wed. Dec 16th, we arrived and Jason invited us in. He gave us a quick tour, and told us to take our time and have a look around while he finished up an order. No other customers were in the store, just my mother and I. After about 5 minutes a lady entered the store and appeared to be picking up an order. At that time a woman, who I later found out to be the owner, Rita Barsoumian, appeared and asked if we needed help. I replied that we wanted to look for a bit before deciding on our purchase. She essentially threw my mother and I out of the store stating that there was someone else at the other end of the store and due to Covid-19 we couldnt be there to look; we had to buy immediately or leave! We couldnt believe we heard right, so we asked if she was requesting us to leave, and she said yes. As we exited the store, the one lady who had been at the front had already collected her order and left the store, leaving it empty of customers.I cant describe how insulted and disrespected we felt. We left the store in a state of disbelief and shock. We were still in need of a gift for my father, so we walked a couple of blocks up up the street to Wallys, a beautiful and extensive wine and gourmet food shop. What a difference in attitude. They were very welcoming and happy to have us come in. After about 5 minutes of looking around I selected a $400 bottle of champagne. The salesperson, Alberto, was happy to go in the back to get a fresh bottle and we were on our way. Obviously, we will never go back to The Wine Merchant and our business will go to Wallys where there customers are valued and appreciated. Shame on Rita Barsoumian and her lack of respect for people. She should realize hers is not the only wine shop in the area.

One of my favorite wine stores not only in BH but the world. Old school Hollywood class runs this place but in the sense where you feel welcomed and like a student (in a good, excited way) picking up the knowledge and passion of those working here. They have bottles of wine and spirits for all price levels and since theyre so connected they can get pretty much anything you want. If I still lived in LA Id be here all the time

I purchased wine from here a few minutes ago. I am young and trying to learn more. Both people were very rude and reluctant to help even though there were no other customers. When I asked the woman a question about the origins of a wine she snapped back and said, “It should say on the bottle.” First of all, I can’t see behind the counter because I didn’t have my glasses. Secondly, there is no reason to be rude to a potential customer. After that I told her that I was inexperienced (I’ve been 21 less than a year) and wasn’t sure about what to get. When I asked again she snapped, “What’s the question?” I felt very attacked and as if my business did not matter. They seemingly looked at me and my wife as though we were too young to purchase wine. The man didn’t start being helpful until he looked me up and down and determined that I was dressed nice enough to help. I suppose the experience wasn’t all bad because I walked out with a purchase. It’s probably a fine place if you’re an older adult and need to spend $500 on a bottle of wine. But I did not feel welcome at all.
