Update 10/14/21. We have been patronizing this establishment since my daughter was 3. We consistently supported the Silver Spring location during the pandemic. Tonight we come in and were immediately seated. It wasnt packed. 30 minutes later no one came over to take our order or acknowledge us. My daughter waived to get a waiters attention. I had to explain to my daughter that we cant continue to sit and wait all night. We eventually left and wont be back because when I am done with you, I am done.
Terrible food, awful service, and unprofessional employees. We went there on Saturday at 9pm. They didnt have any soup or steaks. We ordered a turkey sandwich, seafood platter, salad, and garlic bread. The turkey sandwich had a foul smell and we couldnt touch it. The Italian sauce of the salad was too salty. The fried flounder had a bad smell. The homemade potatoes were too greasy. And the best part was that while eating I saw someone in the kitchen that had his hand in his pants and after that tightened his apron to go back to work. I told the manager everything and her response was that everyone are happy with their food and thats how it should be.
Go for the nostalgia, but enjoy hot fresh food. The homemade soup (lentil) special of the day was perfect. My salad greens were clean, crisp and fresh too! My friend enjoyed the hot turkey with stuffing and green beans. Affordable and delicious! Cant wait to visit again.
Our Hotess was lovely...our waitress was wonderful. The resturant needs a good cleaning ! Dust in the window sills, table was dirty, had to be wiped down. Mold spotted on the ceiling in the corner ! This a historic location that needs a lot of attention! Please clean up the dust and mold. Most people might miss these issues or just dont care, I do !
Tastee DIner esthetically meets my needs as a old style burger joint, but that is all. Ive gone their twice and both times I was disappointed. 1st time, it was my first day in Silver Spring Maryland (Aug 1st) and this was near my apartment building so I walked over expecting great diner food. Sadly I was disappointed. First, I had a rude hostess seat me to my table. She was gabbing to another employee, and gave me a look like I was interrupting her. After I sat down, I ordered pork chops, and fries. It was okay. The porkchops were season with lots of salt, and barely any other seasoning. Fries were bland.I tried to give it another go, thinking that it was a busy Sunday. I went last week on a Thursday (Oct 21st) because I was craving a burger and fries. Just like the pork chops it was bland and uneventful. The worse thing about that experience was that the whole place had like two customers, so the wait staff was just standing their looking at me like vultures. I felt very uncomfortable so I ate fast and proceeded to leave asap.Overall, I will probably go back only if one of my friends wants to eat their.
Super quick walk from our hotel, we were quickly seated and served. Food came out faster than we expected and was delicious. Great place with a great atmosphere
My fiancé and I ate here for breakfast last Saturday morning and we enjoyed it. I haven’t been here in years, but the food is still good and the servers are great! I had a “build-your-own” omelette, hash and biscuits. My fiancé and the pancakes and 2 eggs. This is a great neighborhood diner to go for a inexpensive, yet delicious meal. They’re operating with a limited menu due to Covid, but they will have a lot of options. They are also only seating the indoor dining area up to 25%, so you can feel safe eating indoors. Definitely recommend!
Place seems stuck in time... the 50s & 60s. I guess that works if you are in the retirement age group. Food was okay.. nothing exceptional. I would guess this is the kind of place you would return to if you had memories from childhood. I got no memories here so...
The staff is friendly and welcoming. Meal selection is wide and the food is tasty. Great options for breakfasts. I also love their grilled chicken salad for dinner.
You cant really go wrong with ordering breakfast here, even for lunch. I got two eggs over medium with a side of Turkey sausage, and everything was good. My friend got the Western omelet, and had leftovers to take home. Great and friendly service, and the bathrooms were pretty clean.
My sisters birthday is today and we just had a delicious breakfast even though they seated us in the back near the kitchen...aka the Rosa Parks section. Food was good ...well not the pancakes, which were cold, the butter wouldnt even melt. Lol...would think being seated near the kitchen would mean piping hot food.
Cute diner with friendly service and good food. They cooked our omelettes exactly how we asked, and the poached eggs were still wonderfully runny. Our waitress was attentive and all of the employees were welcoming. And the dining rooms and bathrooms were all very clean.
One of the better, and worth it, breakfast spots in Silver Spring. You get big portions, quality food and service, without having to pay that ridiculous DC upcharge! Its like all those brunch spots make you pay 20 dollars for little bite sized meals. Nah...Not here! I loved their fries, and any place with turkey sausage has my heart! Thank yall, will be returning on a regular basis!
My Breakfast was great. Will be back
Amazing breakfast stop. Food was quick, hot, and fresh. The server was super attentive and very friendly. Will definitely be going again.
They serve breakfast all day, so ...Had a delicious western omelet at 2:30 in the afternoon and the coffee was fresh and just strong enough.
Very good food, prices and table services. All coffee you like. The only thing is if you pay to the waitress at the table, the cashier will stop you in your way out. What is no very pleasant 😕.
Great place for breakfast! Good food and excellent service today!
Breakfast all the time...whats not to like :-)Small parking lot around back but garage and street parking around too if needed. During weekdays not as busy. Food was good as was service. Good for quick lunch.
The food there is amazing the staff is very friendly and the food you get a nice amount of food bring your whole family they will love it
They served me spoiled milk. Ruined the taste in my mouth. Couldnt eat the pancakes. They brought me a better glass of milk, but I felt like I had to puke for the rest of the day. Quality of Diner has gone down.
In short... staples, are staples for a reason. Simple dishes. Executed as good as they need be. A classic, OG Diner.
This place is amazing, from the food to their staff. They have an amazing menu and their prices are affordable too.
A Silver Spring institution for at least 50 years, the Tastee serves up American cuisine in all its glory from meat loaf to scrambled eggs with a side of scrapple. Two dining rooms, the big one to the right and a somewhat smaller one to the left. All shapes, sizes, and colors of customers. Buy a lottery ticket or a tee shirt when you pay your bill. Friendly waitresses, many from Ethiopia.
Excellent food! The diner is so much bigger than it appears on the outside.
Friendly staff, great family restaurant, plenty of indoor seating, outdoor seating available, serves breakfast, burgers and sandwiches.
Always happy after leaving here, love the people and food, just sad they closing earlier these days...
Low quality food in a low quality place. I know Tastee is a staple of Silver Spring, but that is not enough to ever make me go back to this place. Both my child and I got sick from the food we had here. Not to mention the actual restaurant itself lacked any standard of cleanliness, which just made the whole experience worse. Needless to say we will not be eating here again.
Very clean, friendly servers, reasonable prices
Best greasy spoon diner in this neck of the woods. Tastee is an institution and I love it.
Excellent service, and good food for reasonable prices. Very extensive breakfast menu.
Good diner food at reasonable prices, with great service. Everything is clean and food comes out quick.
Historic place with really good American style dishes and inexpensive. Open 24 hours, serving beer and vine until 2AM. Also sells them for take out. Add to this a jukebox with hits from 80s and 90s. The place is a gem, hidden just a short stroll from bustling Elsworth - Cameron street. Just a small notes - better to sit by the window (better AC - tables near the kitchen are worst). And the tile floor leading to restroom is pretty slippery when wet (at least for Asixs footwear).
The Wednesday Pot Roast special is delicious.
Great service, relaxed atmosphere, good food, and great prices! I cannot wait to return.
Always get the egg scrambled with cheese and grits and house and a cup of coffee on the side and its always a great experience the guys are friendly the females are a bit mean sometimes but other than that great experience
Excellent, kind service and delicious food! Overall a fantastic atmosphere
Waitress was very slow the was good but little cold.
Turkey bacon was over cooked and the bread had a nasty taste to it
No frills old school diner. If youre looking for home cooking away from home, check it out!
Great serviceBreakfast was good.Outside dining was nice.
Love it. I’m ridiculously picky. Great burger, great pancakes, love them.
Great food choice. Friendly staff.
My woman hipped me to this place over a year ago and Ive been hooked! Cant stress it enough folks, you want some really good quality food and youre in the Silver Spring area of #Maryland do check out Tasty Diner. My go to ultimate pick? The Turkey club on wheat with a side of french fries. Presentation as you can see in the pic is on point, taste very clean meaning it doesnt taste like something with recycled grease or anything, everything they use to make your order is fresh. Absolute Heaven! If the cooks are females Ill marry em cause good food like this other than at home is hard to come by! Youll thank me later! #MD #DC #WashingtonDC #VA #Virginia
I always love the Tastee Diner. They always have someone to seat us when we walk in and are very prompt with their service in the food is good.
Very nice staff, good food, very affordable
Dated place, but the food is affordable. I can see that older people frequent this place, possibly because of their prices
The food is always good.
Im from Philly, went to silver springs for a week work and Tastee Dinner takes good care of my meals. Clean, Friendly and above all Delicious food. Very great tasty meals.
This place feels like a true establishment. Very reasonably priced and quick service.
Had a great breakfast this morning with my wife, the cornbeef hash was done exactly the way I ordered it. Thanks again.
Always a great experience, the waitress was very helpful and friendly.
Food was okay. Burger not served as I ordered and the bun was sale. I appreciate that they are doing what they can during phase 2.
This is a very old diner and it shows both outside and in. I was in the area and looking to grab some lunch and thought I would give it a try. First impression gave me pause, but the service was excellent. The food was typical diner fare, but tasty. Importantly it was clean too! If I am in the area again, I would return.
Lovely, friendly staff and excellent omelettes and fresh, homemade biscuits!
The food was just ok. It was my first time going but I wouldnt go again because of the quality of the food vs the price paid. Im 40 plus in age. On the other hand I was with a 19 year old and he seemed to really enjoy it but it was also his first time the DMV..... In my opinion it wasnt the worst and it could definitely up the rating if the wait staff and the cooks put a little more effort in.....I still tipped because of the waitressing system but Im not impressed.... I hope management reads this and makes the changes!!
This is a gem of diner. Very old school, and so is the staff. The waiter was a dispassionate old soul, not giving a damn, borderline bitter, but thats the reason I loved the guy. Food was quick, greasy, delicious. Coffee was bold, black, and hot. Wasnt the cheapest place, but this is a true institution of a life left behind.
Glad to have them back open! Staff is great! Food is good.
We probably wont come here that often (if at all) since its a 25 min drive away (and im never in silver spring); but ill just say: i live a 5 minute walk from primrose in brookland (which seems to be well-reviewed by the snobs): and id rather make the trip here than walk to primrose, even if i had to pay the same price for my meal. the fact that this place is practically half the price is just *chefs kiss* lol.---if you want value, not sure youll fine better (considering its a sit-down place). massive and delicious portions, literally wasnt able to finish our meal (2 ppl: chocolate pancakes, veg omelet, chicken fingers)service is fine; cute vibe/decor/space; imo the place (and esp the other customers) are so cute: table next to us had amazing service, aka a really old couple who were clearly regulars and knew the waitress...aka it was so adorable haha.
Omggggg I love this place.
Excellent for classic diner food. Large portions, great service and very affordable.
The saddest, dullest diner breakfast menu in the whole wide world. Slimy eggs, untoasted toast, greasy bacon, boring french toast and waffles, and undercooked potatoes. Wont be back, ever. They only get the second star because the staff was friendly.
This was my first time and I didnt take control of my situation as I should have. The server was great but the toast was cold and hard and the eggs were overcooked with no flavor. I even added salt and it didnt help. If you are on a special diet, this is the place for you.
It has a small southern charm, great food and wonderful staff
Not as good as it used to be..I wish it was!
Basic American Menu. Prices are low. Quality High. Service varies from attentive to exceptional. Decor authentic 1950s Road Diner. Clientele late nite drinkers from downtown Nite Clubs to Family Sunday Diners. Weekday average workers to Local County Court Building persons. My place for blueberry pie alamode, and great decaf.
Simple, gold standard diner food. You want diner food, theyre here for you.
Delicious food and very friendly servers
Solid diner, was recommended to come by a nice gentleman on the street.
Excellent service, food was fresh fantastic! Great prices
Service was great, the restaurant was clean with plenty of social distancing. As far as the food I wasnt impressed.
Good food, good service, and a lot of food for your buck. Just limit items available at this time
It was ohhhhhhh so delicious the first time everything was cooked perfectly....the second time wasnt delicious it was just ok...but I would definitely go back!!!
It was good for a quick lunch
Covid 19 implementations adequate. Me and the staff got steaks th as t were delicious. Apple pie and a chocolate shake made my day even better. Staff was so good I had to tip 20 dollars on a call in order because I had to show appreciation
Good food great atmosphere.
Great comfort food! Willing to work with food allergies and didnt make it weird.
Friendly staff, good food, pleasant environment
Great social distancing effects. Excellent service. I loved being greeted by people as soon as I walked in (host, manager and cashier)!
