It feels like everything but the house is here - the longer stuff stays the more it will start to feel like a museum, but there are tons of useful and quirky items from picture frames to housewares and doors. The staff was helpful and seemed to have their way of communicating to help you not get too lost, but the condition of a lot of stuff was borderline and needed to be cleaned or organized - with so many staff it seemed like downtime could have been used to do some straightening! Nevertheless super cool and one of the most Berkeley places you can go in Berkeley

If you like old things, and goiing through old stuff, this may be the place for you! It is kinda like a scavenger hunt—you may or may not find what you are looking for. It might be a good idea to take a list  of what you are looking for—unless you dont mind getting lost for hours.I went in looking for wide-mouth quart canning jars. I found 2 wide mouth and 4 regualar quart canning jars for a dollar each—they can be difficult to find these days.In the back of my mind, I was looking for a way of dealing with mail and paperwork. I found something made out of metal with three levels for holding business papers for $8.Another thought I had was to see if I could find some LP vinyl records for my teenage grand daughter. Well, they had a large number of records, but I easily gave up on that idea because there was no order.  However, the price was right—only $1 each. So, for someone who has a lot of time and patience, that could be a goldmine. It makes me happy that there are still places that one can take stuff and keep it out of the landfill.

The most amazing place Ive ever been to. This is an awesome store. Everything is decently priced and the staff are friendly and helpful. I found so many cool antiques that would have cost me 10x as much at an antique or consignment store. I also recommend going here for hardware and building materials. Such a cool place!

More of a junk yard that a salvage yard, but maybe that’s just semantics. There is a ton of junk here. The bulk of it is strange, misfit items that nobody really wants but are in good enough condition to keep on the shelves. Anything that is relatively nice, or at least salvageable, costs nearly as much as it is new.It seems that their building supplies and hardware is where they shine, but it is once again not exceptionally cheap and the quality is inconsistent.

This is one of my favorite places in the Bay. Dont be fooled by the busy appearance and be patient. Inventory constantly changes, some things need a little bit of love, and you are doing a disservice to yourself if you dont take your time. If you are remodeling/redecorating, exploring a new hobby, looking for some books/music, or just need some creative/practical inspiration, swing by. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The people that work here are not interested in selling the materials, they are simply hoarding junk in a frenzy. Urban Ore is appropriately named. One must have both the motivation and stamina of the early gold miners to seek ones particular treasure there - which is why I tried Omega Salvage first, but, alas, no parking this Saturday afternoon. Omega labels its old sash windows by size, and I wanted a 35+ long & 27+wide. They may have had. Urban Ore has many good old sash windows, but couldnt find desired size today. Did find perfect file cabinet, $25, and whole place fascinating & inspiring, as always.

I was a fan of this place because of the nature of what they do, and like using a place like this original doors instead of buying new ones etc. That is until I ran into the need for customer service. Long story short I ended up returning 3 Doors plus giving them 2 other old doors in good shape after their 2 week return policy, as there was no way for me to return them before then. Instead of listening to my situation or even attempting to consider it they (Eddie and Arnold) flatly refused to give me any refund or even a store credit, instead trying to tell me how customer service works. It definitely does not work like this. So assume anything you buy cant be returned, if it doesnt fit which in many of these cases with used stuff it wont. Try Omega Salvage instead.

A model of the second R: Recycle? Yes. Reuse? So much the better! Its used timber (straight-grain fir) and raised-panel doors (with classic patina) are better quality than Id find in professional supply houses, at a fifth the cost. Im sitting in a home office, with finds including two desks; two metal filing cabinets; an oak filing cabinet; and classic wooden office chairs which provide the most ergonomic seating Ive ever had. Urban Ore French doors (to a balcony with UO chairs); a steel warehouse ladder leading to the roof; bookcases; a dovetail-jointed maple chest; even a leather briefcase; you get the idea. Craftsman stuff that leaves the shopping malls pouting with unsold Coca-Cola. Some of the best things need repair. Briefcase needed one D-ring (handle anchor); two of the chairs needed caning; one desk needed a wheel. You revive something in an hour that will now outlive you. Ideals, optional. These things are valuable and fun.
