I was driving from Vancouver to Seattle and really needed some Ice Cream. Google Maps told me this was the closest stop, so I gave it a shot. I’m glad I did!Their gelato is the closest I’ve had to Italian gelato in the region. I’ve been to similar places in Vancouver but not in WA. Selection of flavors is great, and the location is also very convenient (quiet, easy to park, short drive from the highway).I highly recommend this place for the occasional gelato!

We explored Bellingham on a Christmas Eve. This cute spot was open when most of the places were closed since it was evening time.I went for Sipping chocolate with 70% dark chocolate chips in it and oh my my! The taste was very rich and I know that I am coming back to this one next time I am in Bellingham! It was not too sweet but not too bitter. It just hit the right notes. I am positive that the other ones are worth a try as well.Can’t wait to try the Sipping Chocolate with 85% dark chocolate chips.

Stopped here today for Gelato and was not disappointed one bit. I had the frozen hot cocoa and the rest in my party had chocolate peanut butter. They also had straciatella, mascarpone, many fruit flavors and a coffee nut crunch among a couple of others. Mine was absolutely decadent! Definitely will need to come back and try some other menu items like their sipping chocolate, affogato (they can do coffee OR sipping chocolate poured over gelato) and the many chocolates lining the shelves. It is a little pricier but I felt it well worth the great taste.

Fabulous cafe setting with a cozy ambiance. It helps that the desserts are great as well. I came here for a birthday awhile back with a ton of college kids and the staff were so patient and kind to us. Now I come by myself whenever Im in the area to enjoy some of the drinking chocolate!

Your body needs drinking chocolate, this is the place to give in to your cravings. The Italian sipping chocolate is to die for. Pick up some tasty truffles to go. Friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff will set you up.

Such a great variety of tasty gelato, and unique chocolates. We stop by each time after leaving the Mt. Baker Theatre. If theres a line, dont leave. It goes very quickly. Patrons and staff alike are very upbeat, and friendly (post Theatre crowd, which is the only time I have been there). Great spot for families too.

So yummy!Really good quality teas, coffee, chocolates, and fresh homemade gelato. The staff is kind and welcoming. It’s usually less inhabited than a coffee shop, which is kind of nice for getting work done. The machines are a little loud which can be distracting when trying to read/work but hey, it’s in the name of Gelato! The music is nice too, it’s not too slow or intense and changes genres. I love the lounge spaces too.It’s a date spot to keep in mind if you want something quality but don’t want to buy a whole dinner, or for after dinner! Next time I’ll try their wines with some chocolates.No photo, I ate all my gelato before it could even melt.

If you wanna get chocolate as a gift this is the perfect place. Warm atmosphere and open surprisingly late. Wonderful place to get drinking chocolate or a nice Gelato downtown. Also a quiet place to study.

I found this place on my very first visit to Bellingham and love it. Great Gelato and I get my chocolate fix there often too.. Generally buying the Gelato and 6 truffles together. None of which makes it very far past the store

Chocolate Necessities has been a Bellingham staple for a long time, turning out the highest quality chocolate and truffles for many years. This location brings their legendary chocolate downtown and adds some delicious gelato to the mix. The people here are lovely and so is literally everything on the menu. The prices may seem a little steep but the quality is on point and you really do get what you pay for. Skip the cake shop next door and come in here for something truly special.

Love the fact that theres a dairy free gelato option, but I wish there was more than just the one flavor! The chocolates are amazing, but when I ordered an affogato, it didnt come with the fixings Im used to (mainly orange or lemon zest and sometimes spices.)Staff is always lovely and service is quick.

Excellent gelatos and espresso. Some of the best of its kind in Bellingham. We quite appreciate the non-dairy gelatos, particularly the chocolate, but their many rotating flavors are always a welcome treat.Unfortunately, Chocolate Necessities does not make or sell any varieties of vegan chocolate or truffles - even the dark chocolate contains dairy, unlike other chocolatiers. I really hope theyll consider making a few vegan truffles to have in the case in the future.

Really good sipping chocolate, and great gelato. The new location is nice, though i miss having the counter to sit at. Have been some great new gelato flavors lately, and though i dont get into town as much anymore I try to always stop by.Will often sit and write or read here when i have the time.
