This is exactly my favorite kind of store. I stopped in to grab a quick bite and got the vegetarian egg rolls and the sesame noodle salad. The were both delicious and filling. I would happily come here again, especially if I need any groceries.

The Belfast Co Op is nothing less than the heart of the town. Although Covid has eliminated the indoor food and seating, they have kept the rest of the store going. Few places are better at following safety guidelines to provide as safe a shopping experience as possible. As one of the most significant produce merchants in the area, they have done an excellent job at sourcing from local growers and manufacturers. Since small farms do not receive government funding like their larger competitors, their prices reflect the true cost of food. Nevertheless, the Co Op has maintained very reasonable pricing, while still being able to offer medical insurance to their employees. I love the Co Op, I am a supporting member, and I shop there regularly. Thank you for existing.

I would like this place but there are too many issues especially the attitudes. I got fresh coffee today and a rude customer felt the need scold me on how to clear my coffee from the machine. Despite the fact that the machine is filthy from there being no small brush to clear the grinder. Then at checkout the woman at the register was a bit abrupt when i ask what i was to do with the cart to be cleaned. Over all the coop needs some training in how to interact with others not just the coop locals.

When we come to Maine we make sure to come to the co-op! Its a little on the pricey side but if you want quality you pay a little more. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable with fast service. The cafe inside has a nice variety of menu items to choose from if youre looking for a quick bite to eat. The store, inside and outside, is always kept neat and tidy.I highly recommend visiting this store 😊👍💗

It is not the co-op I knew, as it seems totally corporate. They do carry all the best natural foods and brands, comparative in price... which I like. I shop there, but its no longer like family.. I add that i totally disagree with the owner apparantly they dont remember the old days.

While the store has good selection of items two things made me very unhappy: first, theyre clearly overcharging for some things that are sold in nearby regular grocery stores for almost twice less! Way to dupe a naive visitor...but know - people just wont return after seeing shameless price gouging, so you ultimately lose on lost customer base. Also, they got really weird and about me returning a glass container, it was unpleasant: there was a tiny bit of yogurt on the bottom which I simply couldnt get out using the hotel bathroom tiny sink...I even asked them if I could use their sink to wash it out since theyre expecting surgically-clean container, and they were no and very arrogant about it. Mind boggling, since cleaning containers to sparkling clean state takes much water and soap - so bad for the environment!

Its hard for me to read some of the negative reviews. I think the coop does a pretty good job considering the competition, the demands, the demanding, the high expectations, and how much weve come to expect to be available at low everyday prices from national brands and retailers and on line options. I appreciate what they do. Ive worked in a food store and there are never ending things to do and I see everyone working all the time. The Coop is one of the many pillars that make Belfast a great little city. Do the best you can with what you have where you are.

Just had a wonderful, peaceful trip to the co-op. They had what I needed and were polite and informative when I asked a question. I have had some unpleasant trips to the coop in the past. I did not feel many of the staff I had interacted with over the years were very pleasant even when no words were spoken, sometimes by looks alone and I didn’t know these people at all. I don’t usually feel that way. I’m really glad I went back today and gave the store another try. What a nice experience. Thank you Belfast Coop.

I dont think I can rave about this place enough! I have a sensitive digestive system and clean palate, so finding yummy clean prepared food I can digest easily is a challenge - and I just got loads of stuff from the deli!! Its very reasonably priced for what it is, and everyone was so helpful. I didnt find brands of packaged snacks that I like, but Id rather have the fresh food anyway.

Review №49

Not a fan, last time I was there I saw multiple items cheaper at farmers markets. I would much rather shop with the people who make the products locally than support a storefront with such high mark up. A local small vendor has to make sacrifices in their business to have this place carry their products. Its a great idea but really, my opinion, more money should go to the vendors not the store. I will continue to shop at farmers markets or directly with the vendors.

If you want organic, locally grown foods (in season), Belfast Co-op is a great place. The products can be a bit more expensive, but I like knowing its only a few hours old rather than days on a truck old. The little eatery has many options for both meat and non-meat eaters. From veggie burgers to sandwiches and wraps, all made to order and fresh. Being a member also has perks.

This place is pretty nice if you want to buy some organic food. We go here once and a while to pick-up hard to find items. With that said, we couldnt afford to shop here every week as their produce prices are through the roof. I bought two pounds of apples last year for like $10. Thats my fault for not looking at the price. I love buying local but local shouldnt mean crazy expensive. Personally I skip this Co-op often and just go straight to the farm stands where the actual farmers set decent prices and you can chat with them about the season and so on. They do however have a nice cafe inside. My summary-Great cafe-Terrible produce prices-Very small selection of produce-Great selection of hard to find health food products (expensive though)-Friendly staff

Probably the most expensive place Ive ever bought groceries. They seem to run it more like a charity for inept employees than a co-op. It seems like theres 20 employees working whenever you are there. Id imagine they have to price things the way they do to pay for all the unnecessary labor. Dont get me wrong, they are nice people and they quality of the goods is fine, but they need someone to actually manage it in a way thats responsible.

Ridiculous place. Shadow of its former self. Calling it a co op is laughable. Half the staff work too hard the other half stand around like a security force. Prices are over the top produce section a waste. Same food for 20years, no imagination. Too bad theres no alternative. Whos in charge, ugh. Check out Chases for a good meal and try Hannaford for organic products. Head to Bangor for Natural Living Center.

I like that the Co-Op emphasizes supporting local, however there are still items that directly compete with some local options. At times it is hard to figure out why. This is quite noticable now, in early July, finding west coast strawberries for instance. In the new more spacious but less apparent shelf room arrangement, Id like to see more of the old standby items, and less space given to what I call trendy items made, processed, or handled by big and bigger corporate entities behind the labels. While the staff is generally polite, helpful and knowledgeable, they are short staffed on what seems like a fairly frequent basis, which can be inconvienent at the very least. I shop there to support the general principles represented by the Co-Op and because they have excellent fish and cheese departments, as well as the best health and beauty section with a very well informed section manager.
