I remember when my friend Glen owned the spot. It was great then, and Im sure it still is. Gotta drop by to see how Hampden is doing.
Quiche and Cafe au lait made for a nice breakfast
High quality and so tasty! Ordered an oatmilk latte and bagel with veggie cream cheese. The cream cheese was so fresh and tasty I scarfed it down before taking a picture! Definitely worth a visit.
I surprised my partner one morning last week with breakfast from Common Ground. I added one of the large veggie cream cheese tubs on a whim. By day 2, over half of it was gone. I’ve started catching my partner standing by the fridge eating it with a spoon. Says it’s the best cream cheese ever. Worried that this might become a problem...
Solid spot for early morning coffee and espresso. Also the only coffe place in the area that opens before 8.
Good muffins, but the cold brew is hit or miss
Arrived in the area wayyy too early for a hair appointment so I was walking the shops and decided to snag a quick coffee. The interior was cozy and clean, and though I didnt purchase a baked good the muffins I saw looked AMAZING! Coffee was fresh and robust.
I really love the food here, but using their online ordering system resulted in them completely botching my order, and unfortunately this wasnt the first time they messed up what I asked for. Will probably try again because its so convenient and the food is tasty, so hopefully it was just bad luck these last couple of times.
First time there and it was fantastic! They had quite the line for an early Sunday morning :)
The coffee and the pastries that they had were all delicious and affordable. Highly Recommended!
Absolutely delicious food, environmentally conscious, and (when you can be inside) a cool hole-in-the-wall feel.
The coffee beans were burnt making our coffess basically undrinkable. The syrup they use for caramel is watered down sugar water at best. The bagels smelled great and the muffins looked killer, but the coffee being off is an instant turn off to coming back.
Great coffees however their sandwich construction needs some work. Mostly order bagel sammys and somehow they are always a mess. They wont have spread on both sides, or they put too much PB on your toasted bagel that the tinfoil drips. Ordering ahead should save you time, when you order at 7am and have to wait 30 minutes for 2 bagels and 2 cold brews it isnt worth it.
Super friendly staff and great coffee!
This is a small coffee shop with lots of character and charm. It doesn’t offer a lot of seating inside, but they do have seating in the back deck. We had really good coffee,Gluten free muffins, and wraps. Everything was delightful and the service top notch.
Delicious breakfast! Blueberry muffin is OP
Great coffee. Cute baristas.
Our favorite coffee spot in Baltimore. Their muffins are a big hit with the kids.
This place gets less attention than Artifact Coffee, Charmingtons, etc., but it is a *great* local cafe. Yummy food, very laid-back atmosphere (there’s a little outdoor seating on a porch) and honestly a major part of The Avenue. Feels very homey and nice.
Havent tried something I havent like yet
Feels like the coffee shop from a cool indie movie. Love it here. Kind people, great food. Great backyard patio.
Common Ground is a great place to grab a coffee or tea. It’s also a good place to get some work done or read a book. A huge plus of going here is all of the milk options they have! Easy to maintain your dietary preferences and have a delicious drink simultaneously.
Not much of a coffee drinker, but Common Ground has been solid standby for reliable breakfast fare for years and years. Ive never seen the quality go down and its a nice little (it is very little) place to read a book, catch up on work, or just sit and enjoy a quick bite. Extremely consistent.
Funky but right space. Outdoor tables often facilitate interesting conversations with strangers. Good coffee-shop food. As to the coffee, its Zekes. If you like Starbucks (as I do) you may find the coffee a tad tart. But that doesnt keep me away - those conversations!
Local cafe right in the heart of Hampden. Good sandwiches, lattes, & smoothies. Friendly service and a nice patio in the back to sit in the spring and summer!
This is my favorite cafe! They have amazing homemade muffins with vegan and gluten free options, and all of them are huge and delicious! They have great sandwiches too, and awesome friendly service!
I love everything about this place. Its a treat to visit with its freshly made muffins, sandwiches & coffee served with genuine smiles. Everytime I go, I meet cool interesting people from all walks of life. Its a small place so I couldnt invite 8 friends to come for a Womens Breakfast or a birthday thing. Treat yourself to a visit!
My favorite coffee shop in the area. Service is great even though the line can get long. Food and coffee are always excellent. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great hole in the wall, local, coffee place!
Good food, solid coffee selection. Good mocha latte. Tight space at the ordering area, I wish theyd fix that. Currently playing some crappy music, but its usually pretty good. Overall, of all the places on the avenue for coffee...its the place I go most often.
Best muffins!
Best coffee in hampden. Would be awesome if they had an order ahead option. The only downside is that the space is very tight and its hard to know where to stand while waiting for your order but its so good I dont care. The muffins are exceptional and they have lots of vegan and gf muffins if youre into that kind of thing.
Food is decent, but the service is absurd. This happened to me today (9/24/12), Can you tell me what is on the Southwestern Club Sandwich? Slightly dazed cashier answers, I dont know. He makes a brief effort to find out from an even more dazed looking coworker to which the answer was basically an exasperated shrug. Cashier looks back and me and says sorry or something like that. Thats it. No additional effort to find out what was on the sandwich. I can understand not necessarily knowing what is on the daily special sandwich but in a cafe with maybe 3 workers one of them should probably know or at least make an effort.Advice for management: hire better workers. Even though I live down the street this is probably the last time Ill go here. Yeah the food is fine, but the service is horrible. Not worth it when there are other great sandwich places around.
Regular spot for me, have gluten free bread. Food and drinks are good. Not for you if you dont like loud crowded coffee shops.
This coffee shop has such friendly staff members and absolutely amazing food and drinks. Try the vegan raspberry muffin!
My go-to for coffee I dont make myself. Great sandwiches and some of the best muffins Ive ever had.
Such a great atmosphere! The food and coffee were great and the employees were so kind and friendly! I wish I lived in Baltimore so I could go more often!
I love Common Ground! They have the best, homemade muffins in town and good sandwiches and tasty tea and coffee drinks. The ordering space is really tight but there isnt much they can do about that.
Best bagels Ive found in the city limits :/ i line the seating and baristas are friendly & pleasant. Restrooms do not induce anxiety. Not wheelchair accessible.
Ive come here a couple times - its a cool space with friendly staff. The peanut butter chai banana smoothie is delicious. However, my friends and I have tried several of the food items here and been very disappointed. They are really underwhelming. Like, the egg and cheese sandwich is just cheese and a microwaved egg - no sauce or even butter/mayo. Id come here by myself just to get the smoothie, but otherwise will go elsewhere for food.
Tiny little place, but good coffee and baked goods and a funky little porch overlooking the alley.
Seattle vibes, world’s best muffins, pouring ceremony coffee - not usually a line on weekday mornings before work. Fast but relaxing way to grab a treat to start the day.
Decent coffee shop. Not much for gluten free food options. They charge a lot extra for non dairy milk in coffee drinks. The coffee is good and the staff are always friendly. Tends to get crowded.
Greatest and longest standing Hampden coffeeshop, and with good coffee too! Has a relaxed and community vibe, and the barista selected music adds a special touch. They sell many interesting and tasty muffin types made right in the kitchen. Beware of the Danger muffin, its too good! The place has had minor renovations over the years but feels the same as when I first walked in the place 12 years ago. Love it!
Best bagels and muffins in town!
Fuels me up when I need it, never disappointed, very happy with the gluten free choices.
Comfy and friendly space. Food and drinks at pretty fantastic, thought seating space inside is a little rough. Overall a lot of great experiences!
Cool coffee spot. I think most would categorize this as hipster. Flyers on the wall coming in. Awesome tables. Check it out.
This is my favorite place to grab a cup of coffee on the Avenue. Their hummus bagels are also a must have. Great vegan options for lattes and sandwiches.
The staff is friendly and the products well priced. The space is a bit tight for my comfort. If charm and cozy is what you crave this is for you.
I love their espresso drinks, muffins, and sandwiches. I especially love their Black Bottom cheesecake brownie, Elm and Nova sandwiches, and mocha. Highly recommended for breakfast or lunch.
Best coffee shop in Hampden! Its a little tight, but check the backroom (beyond the counter and bathroom) and back porch for additional seating if the front is full. I highly recommend it!
Might be the best latte we’ve ever had, and we’ve had a lot.
Its always easy to get in and out for some of, if not the best coffee in the neighborhood. I was never really into the food offerings but my friends tell me it is good healthy stuff. I know the owner and he is a good guy...I support his place and even though I live too far away to visit regularly anymore when I find myself in Hampden, and there is parking available, I try to stop in. Note, it is small cafe and often busy but worth it.
This has been my go-to coffee shop for years. Always staffed with fast moving, friendly people. They always have a nice food selection complete with fresh baked goods and great smoothie options.
Typical cafe, cozy atmosphere, nice deck outback for seating. I frequent for coffee and baked goods. I cant speak for any prepared foodbb
Without a doubt the most awful coffee Ive had at any restaurant. Aside from that, the food is very good despite the obscene prices of the food. Nice environment, though.
The best Americano coffee I have ever had.
When I lived in Hampden this place was not only a lifesaver in the busy morning but also a great place for a great chill bite and amazing cafe drinks. Best cafe on the Ave in my opinion.
Super friendly staff. Delicious coffee. Very pleasant outdoor seating in the back.
Delicious sandwiches with good quality ingredients. Good vegetarian options. Good coffee. Try the dirty Chai.
Great place, friendly staff, Hampdens original coffee shop.
Cozy coffeeshop with a light fare sandwich menu. Their muffins are always freshly baked and delicious compliment to great coffee. Love it!
Great food & eclectic, comfortable atmosphere. A favorite!
Good sandwich spot...plan to take your meal to go
Their muffins are the highlight of my day. Try the zucchini. You wont be disappointed.
This is my local coffee place. Expressos and muffins, that kind of thing. Warm and friendly, with free WiFi
Great sandwiches! Great iced coffee :)
The baristas are cool. The coffee is good.the found is delish. They have vegetarian options. Great for a quick bite for breakfast or lunch.
Cute, little, no-frills place with good offerings and nice people.
Cosy local coffee shop with good food and tea options. Not safe for GF food. Has posters for nearby events and two seating areas.
Best muffins Ive ever had
Fantastic coffee and bagels. Super hygee 🥰
Great coffee... Great meeting place... Great place to work... If you can find a place. One of the only cafés in Hampden where you can get free Wi-Fi though so perhaps worth the wait
Awesome vegan gluten free muffins & kind behavior from each & every worker
My favorite coffee shop in Hampden. Service is outstanding. Coffee is fresh. Sandwiches great for lunch and the bagels are affordable and fresh.
Excellent quiche! The signage is true! So fresh!
I love the muffins, coffee and its just a nice qauint atmosphere in the best part of Baltimore, Hon.
Delicious bagels and muffins, good coffee. I go here whenever I need an alternative to Artifact
Excellent service and food. All the sandwiches have names of Baltimore streets which us just the cats pajamas 😻
I love the simple menu, the delicious coffee, & the relative quiet compared to other coffee shops. (At least on Sundays?)
Great coffee! be careful of the log jam at the creaming station.
Excellent food and coffee, cool folks taking care of the customers.
Cozy spot with THE best Expresso drinks. Quirky music and lots of color in these colorless days of coffee shops.
The food and coffee are great. Just bear in mind this is a cramped space for the line and it can get a bit crowded during a rush, but the staff handle the situation nice and quick.
Good homemade pastries, yummy breakfast sandwiches and good coffee. The only knock is my coffee wasnt hot enough, more of a lukewarm
Great muffins! Coffee is fine for the price
Absolutely love this place, from the addictive Dirty Chai to the gluten free muffins that dont make my intestines explode on contact. Seriously they have to be making those things from ground up angel halos they pick up Sunday mornings. Soooo good.
Come here a lot for coffee, they have the best muffins so good!
Common Ground is a gift we dont deserve
Bagels, muffins, sandwiches, soups, coffee, smoothies, tea. 10 or so tables inside, about 6 tables outside when its nice out.
Common Ground covers all your basic coffee and breakfast needd in Hampden. They arent the best coffee (Spro), or the best breakfast sandwiches (Sweetside), but they are the quickest and best value of the neighborhood. Lunch fare is also tasty and fresh. Staff is always kind and super excited to help. Smoothies are also pretty great!
Common Ground is awesome. The staff are friendly, professional, and quick! The menu is great, from the salads and the smoothies to the paninis and the breakfast sammies. The coffee is good. My favorite thing here is the CHAI PEANIT BUTTER BANANA SMOOTHIE and EGG AND CHEESE ON A WHOLE GRAIN BAGEL. My criticisms are that I have to get there pretty early if I want a whole grain bagel and the place is small. They always have art on the wall for sale. The prices here are reasonable and they also have muffins! They are environmentally conscious and have switched to plant-based straws. They do little spotlights on their talented employees. They have outdoor and indoor seating. I also enjoy the tuna sandwich.
Small local coffee shop serving up baked good and sandwiches
A common stop for coffee and great sandwiches. The space is small when it gets crowded and theres a line, but regulars know the flow.
Hampdens de facto go-to coffee shop. In here nearly every day, go off menu and order the Chai Peanut Butter Banana smoothie with a shot of espresso. Only downside is theyre popular enough that once in a while you get hit with long lines and not enough tables. Often not an issue
Best coffee shop on da avenue, hon
Great local coffee house! Fresh baked goodies daily - the muffins are ridiculous! ...and they have almond milk!! Yaay!! Try a matcha green tea latte!
