We used Second Chance to deconstruct our older home with the intention to donate the materials for a chance at a second life! Second Chance showed up when scheduled and did a great job at reclaiming all of the interior materials (hardwood floors, cabinets, bathroom materials, etc.) and all of the exterior materials (windows, doors, joists, rafters, etc.) Knowing that all of those items will get reused (potentially in a Habitat for Humanity home) made us feel great about our decision to donate. We also loved the fact that our home was used for on-the-job skill building as well, which is a pillar of Second Chances mission. I showed up on a few of the deconstruction days and enjoyed talking with members of the Second Chance team, all who had a smile on their face and were very open to talking to me about the process and just life in general!Very happy with the end result!
My Adult toy store! I love love love love this place. I always find the best deals for my home projects! You need a little patience with the staff; not the best customer service… just focus on the fact that you’re getting a good deal.
Had so much fun shopping here there is so much to see! Couldnt find something exactly as imagined - the hunt for a suitable alternative involved hours of peering through every section, getting lost and finding each other again and then finding the way back to share what we found while apart. Left satisfied. I found a beautiful antique sideboard. It doesnt match anything but is so well crafted it can stand on its own and fits the space and purpose perfectly.
The team at Second Chance is Second to None. Pardon the pun, though incredibly deserved. From our initial discussions all the way through to completion the team does a remarkable job. At the job site I followed the teams work along and way - very impressive at each step!Keep up the great work!
Well worth the visit. This place is massive & full of hidden treasures. Wear walking shoes and bring wallet. All staff is very helpful and motivated to move product.
One of my favorite stores ever. Whether you’re looking for shutters for your windows, old fancy bathroom sinks, or just about anything else that has ever been put into a house, Second Chance is the spot. Most of the items have seen life elsewhere and the prices slide down the longer it’s in the store so you can definitely find a deal or two. The best part of the place is the one of a kind stuff. Like the old Bel-Loc Diner sign or the university of Maryland Cole Field House wood floor that spells Maryland. They have so many pieces of intact stained glass and wall candle sconces you can practically build your own gothic castle from their stock. And if you’re just visiting, a trip to Baltimore is just not complete without a visit to Second Chance.
Terrific place to find unique furniture and homegoods. It can be overwhelming so take breaks and enjoy all the surprises that encompass Maryland and Baltimore history. They also have building materials! Hooray.
We have had to slow down our trips up to bmore and second chance, as we are fully stocked for projects for the next decade, and yet... We cant (or dont) help ourselves. For practical matters, we have sourced a new counter for our old kitchen from here, windows, doors, a gas fireplace insert (new,$5k. My price: $300.) the bosch dishwasher that is currently humming along in the kitchen...Impractically, Ive lusted after pianos, sewing machines (they had a necchi in its cabinet last weekend), rocking chairs, funky sofas, sleek kitchen cabinets, wrought iron... Im a maximalist on a minimalist budget.Below are pictures of things I wanted, but not badly enough to put them on the credit card. All of theThe bathrooms are recently updated (the old ones would have been right at home in a gas station). It is stifling hot in the summer, and wicked cold in the winter - it is a warehouse, there is only so much they can do. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a truck. You never know what you will find, but you will find something.
Beautiful. Flat, but uneven ground. Bathrooms are far from the entrance but are clean and stocked. Staff are wearing clothing with logos so theyre easily identifiable. Theyre everywhere, so friendly, knowledgeable, and fun even just to greet in passing.Items are neat, organized, clean, and clearly labeled for prices and terms. Theres a great mix of treasures to find at all styles and price points. So many incredible finds here, plan to make more than one trip! Head over on a rainy day and youll pass the time before you know it.
It was a pleasure working with Second Chance and support their mission. I worked closely with Ryan Mariman and Gene Metzger on a deconstruction project and they were fantastic in explaining the entire process up front and getting the job done timely. There were no surprises along the way and the team were very responsive and communicated well. I highly recommend working with Second Chance team if you have a deconstruction project.
I love, love, love this place! I have found some of the most unique and beautiful pieces here. From antique dressers, new armoire, bedframes, lamps, vases, you name it! I transformed some of the items, and just cleaned and kept the others as they were. You can find pretty much everything here. Whether you need something for your home, to furnish a newly started business, or if you are like me and love unique, quirky, and beautiful items, Second Chance is the place to find them.. Also,, the staff is very helpful and always polite.
My brother in Law told me about second chance. I went there this weekend to find some lumber and other building materials. While they had a large variety of lumber they didnt have what I needed, but I discovered they had kitchen and bathroom cabinets, sinks, furniture and a large selection of other household goods. They even had appliances this place is fully loaded. I loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful I will be returning for sure. I hope the beautiful vanity that I saw is still there when I do.
Awesome selection of items, some are quite expensive but you can still find great deals from time to time. Donating items is also quick and easy.
Great place to find repurposed items. I like to visit every now and again and see the great stuff that they have-always interesting.
They have lots of architectural products including antique and used fireplaces, stained glass windows, regular windows, doors, flooring, wood shelving, bathtubs, indoor and outdoor furniture and tons more. I love to browse the vast warehouse. If you have an old house, Second Chance will likely have items for you. We were able to get green Spanish roof tile for our 1928 DC duplex. Friendly and efficient staff.
P J McTavish & Co Inc has been donating roofing and construction materials to this place for years. Its nice to see things put to use rather than going to the landfill. Most important are the folks that work there, they are some really nice people. Especially the intake/the folks where you donate. I enjoy seeing these folks and I enjoy TIPPING $ to these folks, I really appreciate them. If you can, donate some small amount of $ or a small gift card to show your appreciation.Stay Blessed Second Chance
I love this store. They have everything from cheap lumber to donated couches tile kitchen sets. Washer dryers beds desks. You name it they have it at great price s. Inventory is always changing. You never know what they will have
This place is awesome!! You could spend a whole day in this 200,000 sf piece of paradise. So much to reuse here that its hard to believe. Now that I know it exists Ill be back with a shopping list. Wood floor, appliances, cabinets, furniture, railings, artwork, sinks.......it goes on. You have to go if you want to find a piece to reuse or repurpose.
What a cornucopia of amazing things.I was able to several items i need.I must compliment the staff, most helpful and friendly Bravo to them all.
The second chance has a wide variety of used building materials, most of which are in very good condition and available st reasonable prices. These prices decrease the longer second chance holds on to the pieces, so plan on making several visits for something you have your eye on.
Great place a lot of older items but the prices on some things are to high .
An adventurous curiosity warehouse to get inspired. Most importantly, you help our planet by upcycling goods and creating more jobs. I loved this place and will visit there again.
You cant go wrong. A huge selection of everything you need for the home, good prices for the most part, and you get to help save the planet in just a small way.
I went to Second Chance with my daughter, Deyara, and her husband, Darius. They were looking for a few items for their home and I needed a desk. This price was great. The staff friendly, professional, and helpful. I would recommend them any day for anything from home improvement projects to household items you need.
Awesome place.so nice to see historical items repurposed.
Went to donate some woodEasy process tax write paper easily gotten
Love this place you can find all sorts of things for your home improvement projects here. They get items from homes being demolished so you can buy them at a low coast and give them a new life. You can even find historical items from Baltimore and the dmv, really a great cause. The stock is always changing so what your looking for may not be here today but in a week or two it could show up.
Got pretty much anything old and new for your home or renovating
This place is a trip! If you are doing any kind of construction job, I recommend a visit here.
Great selection of one of a kind items. Love this place!
The warehouse is massive and theres always treasures to find. Almost every staff member will greet you and offer help. Some items are reasonably priced, others have a high price tag. Overall just fun to walk around.
A treasure trove of old house treasures. Gorgeous original antiques from Victorian mansions, including bureaux, hutches, wardrobes, doors, windows, mantels, lights, lumber and flooring. You can spend hours lost in here. Some of the mass-produced pieces from the nineties are overpriced, as are many pieces that are very damaged which could be purchased new for less than the cost of repair. For example, a dilapidated old trunk with someone’s name painted on it and collapsing walls and rusty hardware was marked at $100 and I just don’t know who would buy and use that. Other examples are cabinets with glass panes or shelves missing. To be truly eco friendly and change how we consume, this place could either do the repairs and charge a higher price or drop the prices much lower so we can do the repairs ourselves to compete with similar mass-produced stuff flooding the home goods market.
Awesome spot and great non profit. Picked up lots of new items for our new house and will be going back soon! Got some end tables, bathroom cabinet, light fixtures, and some decorations.
The Second Chance team was easy to work with and completed the project very timely. The entire process was very efficient and I would definitely partner with them again.
Hidden gem of Baltimore! Second chance has every type of furniture you could imagine and then some. They also have cheap reclaimed lumber. Everything is secondhand but most of it is really good quality (way better than Ikea furniture) and lower quality items (think scuffs or stains that can be easily fixed) are normally less than $20. Last time I was there I found a beautiful armchair in mint condition for $15. This store is a great way to save some money and be eco friendly at the same time. Be prepared to spend an afternoon just looking at all the stuff!
I heard of Second Chance from a neighbor when I was in the process of tearing down a house to build another. What an amazing concept! Their team came and in just 2 weeks, took our house apart piece by piece so that anything that could be reused, recycled or resold was not put to waste. They left our lot perfectly clean and were great to work with from start to finish. And I got a very nice tax deduction for the items from our home that were donated to their worthy cause. They were great to work with from start to finish and I highly recommend them!
A fun place to walk around. Weve picked up some nice used furniture here. Much of the building materials are recycled from razing old houses.
The items in this store were so expensive. I wonder if they sell anything. Why would I buy used when I could spend less money and buy new? 4 yard chairs with no pillows and needing sanding and repainting over 100 dollars a piece. I saw a used viking stove( which are pretty pricey) asking price 3000. Yes count the zeros. I saw brand new viking stoves at md southern sales that auctioned for less then that. For a second hand store they sure charge top store prices.
Second Chance is a fantastic place for Do It Yourself types; several thousand square feet of old doors, windows, pillars, furniture, and antique restoration pieces. Why buy new and poorly made when you can restore a piece of American Art that will last forever?Be sure to have a block of time; this is an excursion!
Love, love, love.... employees are super helpful. Great for finding bargains from the 19th century to present. Invaluable store if you have an older home in baltimore.
I am a home builder Arlington Virginia and have used Second Chance several times on our projects. Their crews are professional and do an incredible job carefully removing building materials from houses that would otherwise end up in landfills. They will remove everything from cabinets, countertops, wood floors, doors and windows and all the way down to insulation, wire, studs, rafters and floor joists. It’s very gratifying to see all of this perfectly good material find a new home.I lived in Baltimore City for 12 years before moving to VA. I used to love going to Second Chance, I would spend hours looking at all of the beautiful building materials they have to offer. Again, they have everything you need to build a home. They also have incredibly hard to find antique and vintage building materials so if you are a homeowner/builder looking for a hard to find item...Second Chance should be your first stop. I personally bought reclaimed floor joists from Second Chance to build a beautiful farmhouse kitchen table. So whether you are a builder or homeowner doing a large demo job and want to recycle material, give Second Chance a call. There are also some very nice tax incentives available and that’s always a good thing!
I wish this place had a hotel.... You could easily lose track of time with the reusable items that are in this store.
Living on the East Coast for the past decade, I’ve been to a lot of second hand stores and salvage yards.Honestly one of the best salvage and vintage second stores I’ve ever been too.Huge facility but immaculately organized and everyone there is friendly and willing to help.
This is a really cool place. They perform a great service for the community and offer great deals. Everyone should support them!
Found a cute side table. Great price
What a place to find any oddities or quality used stuff!
Best deals in the city
This place is awesome! You can find just about anything here!
Second Chance Inc. has an extensive collection of reclaimed vintage house materials, unique statues ~ Etc.!!!
Great variety of things at great prices and a good business model.
I love this place. You can find anything here. I have a solid wood twin set in a guest room its over 10 years old, I went here just browsing and found the same bed frame in a full. In better condition than the one I have☺️ Needless to say I was beyond excited and now have matching sets for my guest rooms one twin and one full!!!!!!!!
I totally enjoyed my visit with them & the staff is always very nice & helpful!
I always find what Im looking for and a great price makes my trip worth it👍🏽👏🏽.
I originally had problems scheduling a pick-up because I live on the outer fringes of their pick-up area, but those issues were worked out and I now have an appointment for pick-up scheduled. UPDATE: the pick-up crew called before arriving, arrived on time, and was very pleasant. An enjoyable experience working with them!
Gigantic warehouse full of gently used furniture and other items for your house. The best thing about this place is the pricing system. Each tag has 3 prices on it. If you can wait a few months for whatever youre looking for you get it at half the price they originally asked for. Check it out!
Re-entry program giving ex-offenders a second chance. They also have a thrift shop.
This place is definitely a site to behold and has a ton of items. A lot of it is for a great price some is a little expensive IMO. The only issue is its not temperature controlled so it was. Very cold inside. Definitely worth a trip to check out.
They were closed and did not bother to post it. I think these places are over priced.
Loved this unique 2nd hand warehouse. Some prices I thought were expensive but others were amazing. Definitely worth a trip. People in store were friendly to help. Free parking.
Very awesome finds, and hidden gems. Prices can be a bit high especially for the larger items. However we’ll definitely be back!
I moved put of Baltimore after 25 years to Ohio unfortunately. I work in a renovation remodeling field and often recite, work-wise or leisure based in conversation; the beauty and concept of this place. Lots to see and offer! It is an architectural salvage. Come expecting as much and youll not be disappointed.
Best place for bargains, amazing staff.
This place is a haven for persons with repurposing skills; however, I am NOT that person! You can find impeccable deals in their Last Chance area- Im talking $8 for high slipper chairs and $10 for classic armchairs (the latter we just purchased today). Its a huge place and most of the items are very expensive. Most of their inventory are from estates, which may justify the pricing. Nevertheless, if you have the time to look and the patience to wait until the price drops, you will not be disappointed.
Always great place to take family and friends.
Everyone wears their masks. Social distancing is easy. Did I mention the great stuff and organizational mission! Rock & Roll.
Amazing repurposing operation. New stuff available weekly.
Loved it. First time there, will definitely be back!
Really cool story about what they do and how they do it. This is a worthy cause and they also sell some amazing things.
Second Chance is a good quality, low cost discount home furnishing and used building material supply store. They are the HOME DEPOT of discount home furnishing supplies.!This is an Outstanding Operation, with .very kind, polite and knowledgeable workers. The Customer Service is excellent. The Ridgely Street location is twice the size of any Home Depot by comparison. The entire store is clean and well organized in sections for easy shopping. It was a very enjoyable experience shopping there.THSNK YOU TO THE ENTIRE SECOND CHANCE TEAM!! WELL DONE!😃
They have all second hand nice things
Always awesome
Second chance is the best, you can find great used furniture for very reasonable prices. The people who work there are super nice and helpful. We go there al time. Your money supports a great cause.
Great place! Something for everyone!
Unbelievable ....this place is huge and has an amazing array of items ..from cool art pieces to sinks and French fryers
Very cool place!!! It seemed a bit over-priced for most of the items on hand. And judging by the dates on the stickers they were probably priced too high for others as well.
Love it its a museum where you can buy things
We love this place. Theres always something unique to discover and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
I always find a great deal here. Also the best place for lumber
We worked with Second Chance folks for the deconstruction of our old house. Amazing, professional team completed the deconstruction in a couple of days from the date we requested the service. We are very happy and highly recommend this organization.
