I had the pleasure of working with Kathleen Anderson while planning my new home as well as decorating it after the build was complete. Kathleen made the process easy and actually enjoyable.With so many design resources available these days (Instagram, blogs, online room simulators, etc) it seems like almost anyone can be an interior designer, right? But what you don’t get with those sources is an actual person who has already cultivated relationships in the industry, who has already made the teachable mistakes/achievements, who already knows the tricks and tools you can only learn over time. You might have a keen eye for design already, but you certainly don’t have the business knowledge that Kathleen does.I myself had some set ideas of what I wanted to do, but didn’t always know how to communicate that to the builders and Kathleen was the perfect person to translate what I was trying to say. She actually felt more like an advocate for me—always the one to call the vendors, call the builders, make the difficult comments that I wasn’t comfortable saying. And when it came to design choices, I was comfortable trusting her eye when I needed help making a decision.When it came to decorating the completed house, she was quite literally invaluable. One protect did not go as smoothly as we both had hoped it would, but she pulled every string to make sure it was redone correctly and at no extra cost to me. She went above and beyond and again had all the awkward conversations I did NOT want to have. In the end the protect was finished beautifully.One of her strengths is window treatments. Kathleen educated me on the value (in both the look and the functionality) of custom drapes. I initially had a bit of a sticker shock, but now that they are in, I can’t imagine anything else. The difference in quality between the custom drapes she designed and the store-bought curtains I chose for an upstairs guest room is so obvious. I wish I had gone with Kathleen’s design through the whole house.I can’t recommended Kathleen Anderson and Material Design enough!
