What a monumental effort to keep Austin clean! Organics By Gosh is an awe-inspiring establishment, upscaling the art of reduce / reuse / recycle by turning wasted food into nourishing compost. This helps to protect both the land and water, while serving the people too. I learned a mountain of information through visiting their outpost and seeing the various ways they work with the soil.Additionally, I felt honored to work directly with the owners, Phil and Donna, for a documentary video project by ARISE Video Studio. They are delightful people, so full of appreciation for the earth and all its inhabitants, working wonders to safeguard our planet. Theyre a real Austin entrepreneur success story.
They do have a first class operation going on and and are trying to make an improvement to address the concerns of the community I think that be and results is a large output of quality material with less stank involved of course you have to expect some smell when youre talkin about rotting bio products
Kevin and the office staff were super helpful educating me with the products they offered. Picked up 3 yards of triple power compost to fill raised beds. Super impressed with the quality of the soil compared to the big box stores.Fast, friendly and reliableWill defiantly be back
Unfortunately, there is nothing lower than 1 star because if there were, Organic by gosh would get it. This is a company with no regard for the neighborhood and familys they are near. The stench is horrible, putrid and makes you literally want to throw up. However, they state it is about the people and the environment. Really, if it were about the people you wouldnt have set up your disgusting business in my neighborhood. You have ruined my quality of life and should not be here in the first place subjecting families to the disgusting stench, flies, and buzzards on a daily basis. Maybe put it in your backyard and live with it, then you can tout the wonderfulness of your disgusting product. Its about your disregard for people and blatant hypocrisy that has prompted this review. Youve earned it!!
I started purchasing my garden dirt here many years ago. The first several years were great. I feel like I received a good quality dirt for a fair price. I even recommended them to all my friends & family. Over time, the prices started to rise significantly. In spite of this, I continued to purchase a trailer load of dirt every year or two, to amend the soil in my garden. Several years ago, I was told that they started picking up expired vegetables from local groceries to compost. A giant pile of composting dirt appeared behind their office (taller than the office.) The last time I purchased soil here, Johnson grass appeared in my garden, my sisters garden, & my friends garden (I had referred her to Organics By Gosh.) I live down the road from OBG & frequently have to drive by. I have noticed the terrible smell that others are referring to. I feel like they expanded too quickly & couldnt handle the amount of compost they are trying produce. Properly cultivated compost shouldnt have a terrible smell & should not contain grass seed. If it reaches the proper temperature & is turned regularly, grass wouldnt have been able to survive in the composted dirt I purchased. Im sad to say that I, my friends, & my family no longer purchase anything here because (1) Its been a few years since my last purchase & I am still dealing with Johnson grass that is a nightmare to eradicate!!! (2) Their prices went up so much, I feel I can get dirt that is better than what I received in my last batch from another supplier, for less money. (3) The smell coming from this place now does not make me want to bring dirt from there home with me. (4) Lastly, I feel for anyone who lives near their business & agree that they are not being good neighbors. I wish I did not have to drive past this business because there is a horrible stench now, that was not here when I started doing business with them. I went from being glad to have them near me to being very unhappy with their product & their practices. I can no longer support this business.
Absolute Gem!Everything was organized and well laid out. They have a great selection of soils and rock. The woman in the office was very nice, polite and very helpful. Their prices are outstanding as well. We will definitely be coming back.
Stopped to buy some bags of mulch and small rock. The sales girl was very nice and welcoming. However I would not recommend the mulch, upon opening and applying it to my yard it was pretty much dirt. The prices are OK.
Have been dealing with these people for years always friendly get you in and out with what you need
I recently purchased soil from Organics By Gosh for a flower bed I was installing. The office staff helped me figure out how much I needed, then, before I could exit the office, they had brought up a cubic yard of soil for me! The guys helped me load it into my vehicle and off I went. I thought their prices were very reasonable and I really like the fact they are using local, organic resources to manufacture their soil products. I put in a 10x6 bed and planted seeds. Its doing really well! Ive purchased soil and mulch products from Organics By Gosh before and, each time, have been very pleased with the results. Phil and his staff are also great about helping you figure out what type of product you need for what type of project youre doing. Ill definitely keep purchasing my landscape materials from them.
Knowledgeable staff, awesome service, great products!
Friendly and efficient. Composted garden soil looks really good, the proof will be in the plants.
The compost purchased here includes composted dead animals. Their compost location is in a nice neighborhood where the homeowners have to put up with the stench and putrid smell of composting flesh and garbage as well as hordes of flies. When you patronize this business you contribute to the suffering of an entire neighborhood in Bastrop County Texas. After I found out this I quit buying from Organics by Gosh. Just like I won’t buy “Dillo Dirt when I found out it was the sewer sludge leftover at the bottom of Austin’s sewer treatment plants.
Ordered 5CY of the Flower and Garden plus soil in March 2018.The Flower and Garden plus soil was quoted to be 30% coconut coir. However visually, I would say this is a real stretch as I found very little coir. The plus soil batch I received has large amount of small plastic, glass shards, and even some fiberglass in it. I keep picking it out, but unfortunately this a problem not easily fixed after landscaping. Maybe I got the bottom of the truck or pile? I would expect some contamination with lower quality soils, but not with a supposedly premium growing soil.I will be using a competitor in the future.
This is a wholesale dirt, compost and mulch company that also sells bulk to the general public. It is very much a warehouse type operation, it is dirty, dusty and smelly. Sometimes the staff is a little curt. If this would bother you then go to Whittlesey. On the other hand, if you are a serious gardener who wants the best quality and price then you need to shop here. I have been buying gardening supplies from them for 20 years. I love the place.
Great people here. Especially the dispatch lady! We bring all of our brush here.
Picked up some mulch for my parents new garden, they loved the quality. Great people to deal with also and easy to find.
Nicest people in town. Perfect customer service
Smells horrible here. Always muddy to. Heaping piles of rotting food. The smell is so strong it is leaking into the surrounding neighborhoods. Wish they would move. Or im going to have to.
These folks host mountains of home-made mulch and other quality earth materials. A great place to drop off your yard waste, and for free!
Great place, lots of choices with a friendlly and helpful staff.
Good prodcuts....GREAT customer interaction from my normal point of contact..who has apparently lef the company. Horrible experience today with rudeness from the front office sales staff.
Not worth a damn the tractor driver tried to make a extra 20.00 on the side after I had already paid 48.00 that the office charged
Liked the choice of either having your brush removed for you or do it yourself.
I just had one of the most awkward experiences. I live 0.2 miles away and was excited that a place that sold top soil was so close. My project consisted of laying down new top soil and compost so that I could re sod my entire back yard.I drove down there to talk to them about my options and there recommendations. When I entered the trailer, the lady at the computer gave me a look as if saying what the hell are you doing here. I felt so uncomfortable, I would have asked for help outside but it was raining. When I asked her about prices and deliver options she was not very helpful.I went ahead and went home and decided to look at my options on there website, their website design is good and I felt like it did a great job breaking things down. I still wanted to use them. They were so close!! I decided I was going to go ahead and still buy from them so I called to place my order. Again the woman who answered the phone answered as if I was bothering her. Her tone was very condescending. I felt bad just calling up there. I explained what I was looking for and all I got were Nos. I was going to need the soil for the previous day and because I waited so long (my fault) I couldnt get it delivered the next day in a timely manner, I thought, maybe I will get it delivered today then (it was still very early), I just got a No. When I asked about delivery in general she came out with an excuse saying that she cant deliver to my house because of power lines being in the way. In our Neighborhood we dont have power lines above us. They are below ground. The literally forced me away. I ended up going Whittlesey Landscaping and supply and Oh My Gosh!!! They were SUPER helpful!!! They gave me great advice about what I needed for my lawn, they made it a point to deliver same day although they were already booked. On top of that they reduced the price of a CU Yrd by $9 each to help offset delivery Charge.Im not sure what happened today with Organic by Gosh but unfortunately it cost them 9 cu yrds of business. Why cant some people just be pleasant. Thank You Whittlesey for knowing how to talk to people.
We picked up a yard of their triple powe compost on fri. The stuff had glass and plastic in it and large pieces of burnt wood.and was packed down like it had a lot of clay in it. Now today after raining all morning my back yard smells like a dump .
Hated it....Ive been by twice, 1st time was to purchase top soil and compost, and since they were less than 5 miles from my home I figured it would be cheaper than The Natural Gardner, boy was I wrong, it was way more expensive....and the receptionist was some what rude and didnt know much about the soils...2nd time I asked the receptionist if they had organic compost and she said she didnt know...well that was the last time I go there....I guess I will just stick to The Natural Gardner, its just that they are so far and this place was so close...now i understand why, Yelp has some bad review for them
It was ok first time there
Really really stinks driving by all day and nite
Honest people
Good place
Not much parking
Horrible sickening smells
Low in fat and good flavor ... In addition to excellent care ...
