Hard-working staff that goes above and beyond to get you what you need for just about anything beginner to expert for your yard. They mainly work with homeowners who want to do their own little home project. They also have a phenomenal knowledge of anything and everything Texas dirt and soil-related to be able to guide you down the right path for your future project. The key is to pay attention to the sign as youre going west on highway 290 to turn right on the dirt road as they moved just to block behind the building they used to be at.They also have another building which they pulled a resources from this is just a storefront building that they have.
I loved their dirt when I first started gardening 5 years back but the last two deliveries I got the soil was horrible. Super sandy and compacted. Didnt have a good growing season and alot of plants got burned out or stunted. Even with lots of amending it didnt do well this season. Really disappointed. Neighbors had the same experience.
This place is phenomenal. They carry every kind of soil amendment I can think of, and make several of their own fertilizers, soils, and composts on site. And the customer service is top notch, will certainly be back for more of their products.
Bought half a sq yard of thundersoil and put it in a raised garden bed. After it rained we found out how many rocks were in it. Super disappointed that we have have to do more work to get this sandy soil in better condition. Wont be buying again, lesson learned.Giving some stars because everyone there was so nice and friendly.
Geo Growers has been my go-to for soils for any type of plant. I have had a great experience with Thunder Garden over the past 6 years, and only added Hasta Grow which I also buy from there. I use their pest products (organic) and they are effective. The staff are knowledgeable and kind.
George was very helpful and patient answering all my questions about soil and compost.
Place has the best soil & employees! They came out to help with some of the bagging! Oh its also one of the only places that still lets you bag your own soil! Best soil for the best prices!
Havent been to USA but even by looking at pictures and reading about your work..I can proudly say you are doing great work 👌👍🌱 All the very best...love from India 🇮🇳
I asked for compost for the lawn, and they pushed me to use Turf Topper instead. Trusting their advice, that is what I used. After three weeks of good watering and even better rain, the yard looks worse than what it was before I used the product. And for comparison. I used all the turf topper for the front yard and went back to GeoGrowers immediately, but they didnt have any more in stock. So instead, I went to Daniels across the street and got regular compost to finish the back yard. Weeks later, the back yard looks much healthier than the front. I am not sure why they wanted me to use turf topper and not regular compost, but I regret the hundreds of dollars spent on this project.
I bought two yards of dirt for my raised garden from Geo Growers and set it up for delivery. Daniel was the delivery driver and was fantastic! I anticipated an afternoon (maybe longer) of shoveling to get it from where they unloaded to my raised garden and was more than pleasantly surprised to have Daniel navigate right up to the edge of my raised garden bed. Thank you Daniel, great job!!!
We love this place! Great selection of well thought out soils and an array of turf toppers, particularly well suited for Belterra lawns! The staff is always super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - even with the most niche questions. Theyre even helping me with getting my lawn tested to make sure were using the best product possible for my lawns specific needs. So happy to have this resource in our neighborhood!
The Best soils in Texas!
Great garden materials. Soil amendments are very specific and perform as represented. Have been using. GEO growers over 20 years. Excellent products at good price. Casual and. Friendly. Very. Helpful as to materials and their uses
Great soil, great service
Geo growers is a great place to get some real soil! I’ve been shopping here for years and would not go any where else for soil and gardening supplies. Only down side is I wish they had more non soil items in stock and pulling in and out can be a bit tricky with all the 290 west traffic!
Second time weve been and well keep coming back. Everything you could need to put a new garden together and more for an amazing price. Roy greeted us at the gate and was very friendly and informative. Excellent price for half a yard of garden soil.
Awesome garden and landscape supply! They have a great showroom and a yard with everything youd need! Very friendly service.
I have used three companies in Austin for soil for new raised vegetable gardens. Thunder Garden is the best soil I have ever used, and it retains its loft for many years without significant amendment. In fact, the soil I bought last year from another vendor is inferior to the Thunder Garden in my three-year-old beds. On top of that, Geo Growers customer service and gardening advice is excellent. This is a great company that takes pride it its products.
We have used them for years, and have always been satisfied. When we purchase garden plants, they survive well and produce. Utilizing the advice from the employees has paid off in so many circumstances, for example. I have had tomato plants year after year, that just did not ripen or produce well, until I started using a product they recommended in the ground at planting of the plants. I have been very pleased with the results year after year. Thanks Geo Growers.
The staff at Geo Growers are extremely helpful. The soil is the best that you can find for your vegetable garden. They do have a small selection of organic plants and soil amendments too that is kept well stocked.
Dont let these people calling thunder garden dirt fool you, this is some seriously mineral rich stuff, and as any gardener knows, you always have to add amendments throughout the season which geogrowers provides plenty of, in response to those who complain about it being very well draining and sandy, try mulching!! uncovered soil is asking for trouble no matter what soil you use! of which they again, have an amazing selection of mulches at great prices, and my favorite for trees, magic mulch
This is outrageous, they have horrible customer service. Their staff is extremely racist. They have a reputation of their bad staff. My friend was discriminated against, insulted and treated inhuman because of her race. This is terrible, the staff is uneducated and follows stereotypes of races and believes that people can’t come to America legally. I am baffled.
George Altgelt is a great business owner, his advice is 100% accurate! I have used Geo Growers soils for many years, and I can testify that George is the most honest, knowledgeable, and trustworthy merchant I have ever dealt with! The review by Red Roach is a poor description of George. Anyone who meets George and does business with him will know that Red Roach is mistaken on his description of Mr. Altgelt.
Picked up 3 yards of hardwood mulch. Staff was helpful and fast. In and out with a trailer-full of quality mulch that looks great in the front beds. Very happy.
I always drive by this place and finally went a week ago. Staff was very helpful. They will provide all the info. you wanted. I purchased around 20 bags(self- serve, 1 bag = 5 gallon bag) of Double Thunder and 2 bags of Gypsum. Yet to see the results in my garden in Belterra community; so I cannot comment on their product quality yet.
If your in need of soil this is the place to go.Ive been going to GeoGrowers for years and they definitely seem to have the best consistency of quality soils and mulch. The staff is freindly and knowledgeable. It would be great if they offered a little more selection of pots/plants and keep thier store and grounds a little cleaner and more organized. Parking is ample and location is very easy to find.
Visited the business recently. The knowledgeable friendly staff made the experience both educational and friendly. We will definitely be returning. My Family owns an Aquaponics growing systems business where we build custom growing systems. The pesticides sold for bugs and organics is refreshing because it does not harm the fish and they provide guidance on best applications for insect or malady. Fish friendly is very important to us. The soils we picked up for our wicking system are working well we had a little yellowing of the leaves initially, but are now vibrant and growing well. as with anything do a test pilot first before going all in on a soil addition as PH and conditions vary.
Very helpful and cheerful. Great way to end the year
Went out there for the first time, staff asked what I was planting and designing, then gave compost recommendation. Service was quick that I was in/out in less than 10 minutes.
Staff is helpful, but George the owner seems to say what ever he wants to insure a sale of some off the wall soil amendments the store stocks. His plant advice is very suspect.
Awesome people. Great atmosphere.
I ordered several yards of double thunder at the beginning of spring. I put in raised beds, hauled the dirt and even put dirt in with my existing garden spots. It was very hard to keep watered. It was like sand with heavy, heavy fertilizers. All of my established plants, citris, even mint beds burned and died. I took leaves into another nursery and they said it was most likely not composted for the recommended time, just their opinion. I can tell you- it cost me hundreds of dollars in dead plants. This year was a disaster for my gardening, which I have done for 25 years. Never have I had an experience like this. Be very careful about the soils you use... I was trying to go organic. I usually compost everything, but this time, I was trying to expand my garden. Never again.
Really nice folks!
Just plain old goodness
There were 3 of them inside the shed who told us a cubic yard of compost is about 50 bucks. We, however, asked to have them in 5 gallon bags because our trailer is full of debris and equipment. It rained today, so our day was cut short. Since we just happen to be in the area, we thought why not stock up on compost. They said theres a 60+ cents upcharge per plastic bag. This hasnt happened before, and we have purchased a lot of compost in bags before. At first, we thought to try to dispose of the brushes that we have in the trailer. We even asked them where we can dispose of them. They said across the street. So we went there and were eventually told that they dont collect brushes. We went back to GeoGrowers to just cough up the extra $20+. Fair enough. We agreed and paid $70+ for a cubic yard of compost bagged in 5 gallon plastic bags. We pulled our trailer right beside the compost stack, when all of a sudden these guys started coming out of the shed and are now telling us they have to upcharge us a dollar more per bag for labor. Now, were looking at $100+. Just wow, where did that come from? Thats what happened today. I dont know why they treated us like that, but Im disgusted just thinking about it.
Friendly, fast, and our veggies are growing well in the dirt.
Awesome place, with high quality soils and an excellent staff. I come here for all of my garden soil needs.
Gray products, dirt, and prices! Very knowledgeable staff.
Very friendly and accommodating.
Great service!
Kind folks, quality garden supplies
