Today we were basically told by the store manager Terry @ the Todd Ln location in Austin, TX that we are no longer allowed to purchase flex duct from his store because we are not a good enough customer even though they have flex duct in stock. Good luck with this business model Terry. Moving forward will do our best to not purchase from your stores and take our business elsewhere. So heads up small HVAC companies who do not shop here regularly. Your not wanted at Johnstone.

These guys are a joke. Won’t even take the time to look up a part for you or if it can be ordered. My licensed ac guy is in his 70s is independent and been to the store many times. He doesnt get on the internet, he doesn’t like calling around. He does small family and friend jobs (cuz why would you do more in your 70s). These all high and mighty guys who work here won’t even look up a part when I call to see if it’s available so I can send my ac guy down to them. With the internet taking over these days, I see this place getting taken down any year. Avoid this place unless you like to belittled and made fun of. Buy everything online and take this brick and mortar out. They’re one of the bad guys still standing.. won’t be long..

As somebody said, this store is a kind of in fraud business if you do not have a AC license and an account with them. They now sell an ~$7 capacitor for $150 plus TAX for none professional. I asked why Amazon is less than $10, they said, well, you can buy it cheaper online, but you will have to wait for 2-3 days. They are in mutual agreement with local AC technician, so the AC technician can charge you $200-300 for change a capacitor, when they can get capacitor for $5 -$10.My recommendation is to order 5 of capacitor of your AC size handy and then, you will not be ripped off by them.

This is the one you want if you are a homeowner and dont have a contractor license. I went to and called a few shops that wouldnt sell to me because I am just a guy with a broken AC unit, not a contractor. Johnstone hooked me up with a capacitor for like 15 bucks--that would have been a $400 service call.

Horrible Experience, called and was quoted one price arrived and billed double. When asked why, Counter sales staff Smugly replied Do you have a license? if you do i can charge you quoted price. Horrible customer service could have relayed difference much better and over the phone. item sells on line with free shipping for half price charged. 1y later capacitor bad again.

Yes, youre paying full retail, and youre probably the only one. This is a supply house catering to professionals and that is the business model of all supply houses. If you want to wait for days to have your much cheaper on line parts delivered, sit and sweat and feel smug as you count your pennies. They took the time to figure out what would meet my needs when replacing a 20 year old fan motor, while advising which of the eight wires I needed when replacing my three wire motor. John Mazza, the counter man was much friendlier and more patient than most in my experience, and went out of his way to help me be successful at a job about two steps beyond my comfort zone. As a comparison, Grainger gave up when they couldnt read the label on my old motor.

Shady as heck!Went in to get a capacitor, they upsold me on a motor I didnt need, and switched out mu original capacitor with the wrong one and told me I could return what I didnt use. Then when I tried to return said no refunds. Luckily I got my money back and a buddy had the capacitor I needed, if not I would have been without ac for 4 days. I wont ever go back here!

Heads up for home owners. If you are doing some service work on your A/C and need a starter cap go else where. These guys charged me $62 for a common part that I could have picked up at Granger or ordered from Amazon for about $25, Also, they have a strict no returns policy so that once you realize youve been had there is no recourse. Do yourself a favor and go to Graingers.
