Great staff and the best place to get new gear. Really like the teachers here for lessons. My vocal instructor was top notch, and I could tell the other instructors were knowledgeable and warm by how they treated their students.
Rebuilt my guitar at half the price other people quoted me. Ordered me cables I needed that other shops would not. Great service and a wonderful place to get used gear at fair prices. Would highly recommend for guitar set up and repair.
Took in an old guitar for a set up. They did a wonderful job with amazing attention to detail. In addition to sounding and playing like new, they also cleaned and polished it to a high mirror shine! Oh, and they even replaced the missing plastic tip on the pickup selector switch. Such a nice touch! Highly recommended!
Love Hix Bros. They take care of all my needs.
Great people. Ive bought multiple ukuleles from here and I love them. Ive also taken music lessons here and the teachers are amazing.
Way better than guitar center and super friendly help.
I initially had a positive experience with this store when I got my guitar set up. It wasnt purchased there, but they did the setup and re-string for a reasonable price. When I got my guitar back, the guitar had its strap on it, but when I got it back later that day, it wasnt there. I didnt play it for a couple days after so I didnt notice it, but when I went to play it - no strap. Not a big deal, Ill just call them and have them put it at the front desk for me. However, when I called back, they said they cant find it, told me to check the bag. Checked it again (obviously checked there first when I realized it wasnt on the guitar) and not there. I call them back to let them know its not there, and they accuse me of losing the strap. First of all, I know its a pain in the ass to take on and off (new strap, stiff leather) so I would have known if I had taken it off the guitar. Second, theres no apology for losing said strap, and the guy even has the balls to tell me they didnt lose it but he guesses he could buy me a new one if thats what Im looking for...Im not looking for a freaking hand out, just admit you lost the strap and youd be happy to replace it. That simple. Sorry, but if you cant handle a customers possessions properly, and then cant admit when you messed up, I can find somewhere else to spend my money.
My experience with staff has been positive. They have a good attitude towards music and have helped me find the right guitar all three times Ive made purchases. I took lessons here as well and found a great teacher in Matt OBrien who has really helped me excel and became a friend as well. This is a good local music store to use.
I just love music and dabble with guitars. Hix friends have always been honest with a novice. will never go any where else.guitar center wouldnt give me time of day yet i had 600 dollars to spend.. cash..corporate fools. THEY LOSE!
During the past Christmas holiday, I took advantage of a Black Friday sale a big box music store was having to order an acoustic electric guitar and a fender amp. The sale was 15% off...so I saved quite a bit on a $450 guitar and a $900 amp. Both were shipped to my work and sold as new. Christmas Day when my wife opened the items both were damaged. Come to find out they were pulled from store showrooms and sold as new. I called Hix and spoke with Sean. He & Carl price matched the purchases and ordered new direct from the factory. They helped us open up each box at the store and sure enough they were damage free. Great service. Well continue to purchase from Hix. Done with the other guys.
Generally a good local music store with friendly staff and limited equipment (it is a family owned business). Ive gone there because its convenient and close and I can usually get what I need.HOWEVER, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING A GUITAR THERE FOR REPAIRS/TECH-WORK. The communication was poor. No estimate. Just a final charge which was high, in my opinion. When trying to solve the problem, the tech was unavailable. But, the owner, Karl and I did come to a compromise.I wish I would have read the other reviews because, apparently, Im not the only person who has had issues with their tech. Be warned! That aside, its a fine music store with friendly people.
I absolutelty love Hix brothers music. They are teaching me guitar and ukulele and I have never had a better experience than I have had with them when it comes to learning music. Everyone is friendly and you are guaranteed a good time
The guys are the most knowledgable and best around. Been shopping here for years and they have never ever ever let me down. As a pro musician, I usually come to them with various needs and have never been told sorry. They absolutely ROCK!
Great selection of acoustic guitars, and they have ukelele meetups and also offer band instruments such as flute and saxophone. Sound equipment and drum equipment are also available, but I really feel like their strong suit is the acoustic guitars. Theres an extensive collection of tab and sheet music books that span genres, as well.I purchased a used guitar from them a few months ago and its been really exciting to start learning.
Great customer service and great products. Found a takamine p4DC there for an amazing price
Meh.. an ok store... closed to early though..
Ive bought all of my instruments from Hix Bros. and I wouldnt take my business else where! Friendly and great atmosphere!
Garbage. Took my guitar in to have new pickups installed. Turn-around time was average. Got my guitar back, and it had lots of noise issues. Immediatley took the guitar back in and was told to wait a couple more days because their tech was out running errands. This is not the first time I have been told the tech is unavailable to speak with. It seems that every time I go there, he just happens to not be there. Frustrating. Anyhow, I waited a couple days, and finally decided to call them since I never did receive a call from them at all. Spoke with the tech (finally) and he said that the guitar either has a bad pickup or the switch is bad. And that if I wanted to switch replaced, it would be $40 installed. So I was like....ok Ill just pick the guitar up.Upon picking it up, I took the guitar to another shop in the Naperville area, and had it fixed almost immediatley. The tech told me that the wiring job was extremely sub-par. For the amount of money that I paid to have the work done at Hix, I should not have to take my instrument to another shop to get it fixed. Pathetic. Wont be going here again. Ever.
Very good folks.
Its chill
