Incredibly helpful, kind and thoughtful staff. These folks got me and my tiny business through the pandemic. I placed orders on their website and they made sure I had everything I needed and always called to confirm my order and answer questions.Don’t be dissuaded by the curt reviews, Earth Guild and it’s staff are a treasure. Can’t wait to shop in person again and looking forward to sourcing my supplies here for years to come.

Beautiful merchandise. Horribly rude and inattentive staff/owner. They make no attempt at eye contact or any other effort at hospitality. Ive had merchandise in my hand, ready to buy, while the woman simply walked away to do something and left me standing at the counter. I left the merchandise on the counter and walked out. I dont intend to buy anything from them in the future. I doubt they care.

We were glad to see their safety precautions, though that included limits on the number of shoppers in the store, and a 30-minute time limit. All the usual supplies, books, equipment, etc appear to be available on the shelves, and the manager is helpful with answering questions. Great place to go for multiple inspirations and finding experts!

I visited about a year about before the virus. I came in, and the owner greeted me warmly, but stayed at the counter reading, and let me wander around and get my feet under me. It is a cool store, and I appreciated her not feeling a need to pounce on me when I walked in. I also didnt touch the fibers or yarns though. We joked about the looms. I still love the joke she made. She leaned in and said, the secret of weaving is, never EVER give your 1st piece to your mother. You will get better, but she will never get rid of it! I could have howled laughing because to this day my mother has the most sad woven cloth I made 10 years ago on her table like it is the finest table runner. She answered my questions about spinning. She gave me recommendations about wool, and about processing some wool I already had (a process mind you she made no money explaining to me!) And all of this happened shortly before closing.Children like to look by touching things. The spinning fibers look soft, and the drop spindles look like PERFECT swords. But many of the things in the store are expensive, like the looms, and are made with great care, like the wool. If people are handling the yarn, and especially the carded wool, it will get oily and ruined quickly. There are just some stores that kids have to know they cannot handle things in. If she has to be a little stern to get that message across, I see no issue with that. I am sure they get a lot of foot traffic in downtown asheville and she has to protect her products from getting dingy from frequent handling.

Hate to leave this review but I have been in numerous times. First time they were wonderful and we even had our children with us. Second time it was a few months later and we were treated gruffly, no worries bad day. Back a few months later with no children and they were absolutely horrible. I left crying. Went back again with no children 10min before closing and was told I could not make a purchase because they were already close. I left and tried to come back the next day. My children are around looms and wheels, they know how to behave. They dont run or grab stuff when there. They may point and ask questions but not destructive before they stepped in the store they were accused of breaking something the day before (I went without children). My husband held them outside the whole time I was being accused of stealing (I had not even touched an item yet), I just left. Sad because this store is actually amazing and full of wonderful stuff.

They missed a big sale today because they were rude to my niece and nephew. My niece (age 10) is perfectly capable of browsing this kind of shop without doing any damage, but the woman working there felt it was necessary to follow her around, ask if she was buying anything, and make an unnecessary comment about her touching things. This is a HANDCRAFTING SHOP the things she was touching are meant to be touched! My nephew (age 4) picked up a sturdy wooden comb which my sister promptly had him put back down. The woman came and hovered behind us and made another comment about the kids touching things. If you dont want kids in the shop say goodbye to the next generation of crafters!

I love what they have and if the staff are in the right mood they can be very helpful. After spending a lot of money in the store yesterday, I went back because I was thinking about purchasing a couple of other things. I asked a question about something they have in the store and overheard one staff person talking with another in a very snarky way. Sorry for asking about something you have that I might want to purchase. I wonder how long they will stay in business with that attitude.

This place is our idea of Craft heaven ! We were on a walk around downtown and as soon as my wife saw it, she darted in and was instantly smitten ! The range of product is amazing, even I found items for my woodworking craft that I could not get back home. My wife is a mad keen Felter, so the wools and all of the other fabric items held her attention in thrall. We left with armfuls of product, hoping that customs would be kind and let us bring them back home ! Staff were great, we visited twice, happy to do so.

Forget the bad reviews and listen to me. I just came from Earth Guild and Im elated with my experience. Blair was amazing, the real deal and helped me so much. Not only did she donate yarn for my animal welfare project, knitting warm blankets for animals in need but also spent an hour helping me with a sweater I had started over 20 years ago and stopped due to one reason or another. It was an amazing experience and they are down to earth. If you want sugar coating then go to babysitter. If you want real and sound advice and help better come here. I cant say enough about Earth Guild and its staff. Thank you Blair. I will be back. Beth💖😉🎉

My husband and I went here a few years ago. Id just begun knitting and wanted to look at some high end yarns. When I went to check out, the cashier stared at me and the credit card. She questioned my identity. She literally asked me if the signature on the credit card I handed her was really mine. She asked to see my drivers license and when I gave it to her she studied it, studied me, studied the card, and then said that the signatures didnt match and asked me why. Really?? Sorry, but my signature is sloppy and always looks a bit different each time I write it. Anyway, she made me feel like a criminal and all I was trying to do was purchase about $30 worth of yarn. I will never step foot in that store again. I left there feeling so abused for no reason other than wanting to try a nice yarn and support a local business. If you decide to go, be prepared to be treated poorly.

I love this store. The staff was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and even talkative. I love the selection. They seem to have everything Ive ever wanted to play with; fiber, yarn, clay, embroidery, etc. While I was there, 2 people sat down and started reading some of the books that are for sale. My wife shops here occasionally to get crafting things she needs, but the employees are incredibly rude. It makes no sense. If you have a small curious child, best to have them in a stroller or not bring them at all, you will be scolded and scoffed at. My friends and I visited this store looking around. An older woman came over and made certain that we understood that the hat and scarf that was on display were not for sale. She was not a pleasant person. A few minutes later, one of our group asked her how much the looms cost. Her answer was ... I dont have all of the prices memorized...I have no idea... She could not have been more rude. I cut the conversation short and encouraged all in our group to leave. What a rude woman! Obviously, they dont need the business, so lets just not go there.... . Perhaps another business that appreciates patrons will one day occupy this space in beautiful downtown Asheville.

I do agree with others about the rude owners. I have shopped here a few times and have had mixed experience with the rudeness of the owners. As for them keeping an eye on wild children running around and destroying there property, I agree with them. Parents need to keep their children under control. Its not WalMart. But, the staff could be a bit friendlier to their customers. As others have mentioned, I had the same experience with them on the credit card issue. They really dont want to take cards, but dont have much choice in this day and age. They need to suck it up and understand that it is a cost of doing business now days. They do have a good selection of items that are difficult to find locally though.

The owner is incredibly rude!!! I was at the store this past Friday with my family, craft stores are my favorite and the store is actually quite lovely inside. They did not greet or acknowledge our presence, that is until the woman working there decided to rudely and publicly reprimand my 8 year old stepson for simply looking at a spool of thread. He wasn’t taking everything off the shelf or messing up their displays, he had one spool of thread in his hand and was just looking at it while right next to us. It was absolutely rude and embarrassing and I was in total shock over the way this woman spoke to a child. You would think a store of this nature would encourage a little curiosity and creativity from children. Instead the only interaction we had from this owner was for her to yell at a child for touching a spool of thread while standing quietly next to his parents. This level of rudeness and lack of professionalism has bothered me for a few days now so I figured the public should know what they are getting into before entering this unprofessional establishment

I travel from Florida to Asheville, and visit this shop each time. Cant get enough of it. I am a fiber artist and instructor, and love the variety of rovings, weaving supplies, and dyes, etc. I always have a good experience, and have received good responses to my (sometimes) dumb questions. To those who want to bring children, please keep them by the hand or leave them with a friend to go for a walk while you shop. Their tactile experience can be at home, after you have made a purchase and taken it home for them to play with.
