Variety of selection is pretty wide, though higher priced than other stores of the same genre. Anime sections, gaming section, horror sections, theres bound to be something for anyone willing to spend more money than time doing research. The staff werent very friendly, they kept to themselves behind counters and socializing loudly among themselves instead of greeting customers. We had to wait for the associates to stop conversing and laughing before we were waited upon. Felt awkward and almost out of place trying to spend money here.
I go here alot to buy used video games. They have a good selection for every system. Prices are fair. Lots of DVDs and VHS to buy. They used to do rentals but I believe they stopped because of COVID.
Great local place to browse for retro games and movies. I travel 2 hours about once a month to come look around
I purchase games from the a lot since i recently found out about them. I also had a very rare game that was loading and they resurfaced it and now it works great! Place is awesome with a great selection of fairly priced things.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Theyve got a good selection of stuff. The biggest draw for me was the game section, which I found to be very fairly priced.
Even though is a bit far we still love coming over they always give my kids and I good store credit for our double copies on our games and they have a great quality if games well maintained
Wow! What a cool place to find all kinds of eclectic stuff. I have never seen anything like it. I was really impressed!
Always has unique VHS finds, full of fantastic dvds and books and video games, its like a candy store for occilt obsessed nerds who love weird, bad, and/or obscure movies. One of my favorite places in town to go
Great privately owned video store, which also sells/rents games. Huge collection of movies. Also sells vintage posters, comics, some books, action figures...all kinds of interesting and fun movie kitsch, even better now since they reorganized.
Friendly knowledgeable staff and nice location. Had what I needed as well. An old DS adapter? Exceptional.
This place is an amazing nexus of fun and pop/sub culture. I never leave here without buying something.
Was the best experience I had shopping in a long time! Had great time. I grow up in the neighborhood and so much has change but this place made west Asheville feel like home again.
My favorite store in all of asheville! Hope they bring movie rentals back because it made me so happy renting a couple movies from such a big selection and being exposed to something I wouldnt otherwise if I had to buy. Love this place!!
A sanctuary for those who enjoy just about any form of media from every decade imaginable. The last of its kind in the area, a real gem. Rentals are superb.
Cool independent shop. You are hereby encouraged to go scream it from the mountaintops: Support your local Orbit DVD!
I wish I could give them 10 stars. Their stock of horror/cult films is easily the best in the state.
Love this place. Always a must go-to when in Asheville. The old school wrestling stuff is always the best!
Used games for Nintendo - old and new! Excellent customer service.
Great selection! Fast shipping
There are not many local video stores left in the world. This place is much fun. They have a great selection and the staff is friendly and happy to make suggestions and talk films. They also have used movies and video games and comics and board games. Used board games!!! Ive never seen that. While we were there, recently, they filled us in on a membership deal where you pay a few bucks and can have one movie out at all times. Way good deal. This is a great way to support our local economy and keep West Asheville fresh. Skip that box and the illegal free streaming and head over to Orbit!
Great place for new and old movies, games, consoles, and other such stuff. There is parking right behind the building, so you dont have to fight for a spot too much. Some unique stuff and bargains too. They also do trade if your into that
If youre looking for a place in Asheville that has out-of-print titles to watch, while also selling both classic and recent titles from film and television in mainstream and special interest niche categories, and happen to be a hardcore cinephile and aspiring filmmaker like myself, look no further - this place is a treasure trove and paradise!
Edit: After opening all fifteen games that we bought, ranging from PS1 to PS3/XBox 360 to add them to our collection software, I want to add that all of the discs are 5 out of 5. Not a scratch or scuff on any of them. These guys are the real deal.First time visiting, came all the way from Raleigh, and this store did not disappoint at all! For a place called Orbit DVD, they had one of the best retro video game collections I have ever seen. If you find yourself anywhere near Ashville, NC, you know what to do. Visit Mount Mitchell and Looking Glass Falls, and round it off with a trip to Orbit DVD.
Pretty neat little shop. Had some pretty cool movie memorabilia and posters. They could really improve the anime and manga section quite a bit. I enjoyed it overall!! Namaste yall!
If I could give less then one star I would. The manager there is extremely rude.. And HE will rip you off. There is a girl name Maggie who is wonderful and will help your needs. Just don’t see the big guy with the black beard and glasses...
Super friendly staff, awesome selection
Very knowledgeable staff. Great movies and games prices
More than just movie rentals an awesome locally owned store for lovers of movies, gaming etc. I have found hard to find items at great prices many times. And they will give top money if u have something to sell that they are interested in. Great place to buy Xmas gifts! Support your local businesses!!
Best video game/DVD/collectible store of all time. I hope it stays open forever 😍
Neat place for old hard to find DVDs, merch, and just general silliness. Nice selection of odd books.
My favorite movie and media store in the world! Whenever we visit Asheville, we make a point to go to Orbit. If youre into horror and/or cult films and you, like me, are also a fan of physical media, Orbit is a total utopia! Thry have an incredible selection; its so exciting! I love this place so much, I can spend hours there! Please check them out and support a unique, wonderful independent business thats run by people who are passionate about film and art!
Really enjoyed. Lots of games at fair prices.
I really like this place. I left without the game I bought, and they had it still had it for me a month later
I know its the only business of its kind around here, and you would think that would make them somewhat complacent. That couldnt be further from the truth. They go above and beyond to help or community stay entertained. Theyre one of my favorite places to spend money.
Largest selection of electronics, everything from old VCRs to used Nintendo Switch Games with more collectible items that you cant find anywhere else. A great place to get lost in nostalgia or discover a cool item you couldnt find anywhere else
Super fast shipping, amazing customer service, and Orbit was literally the only place that still had the item I was looking for. I Will continuously recommend them to friends. Not 5 stars, 10.
Best place for movies and games
I love this place!! The staff is friendly and very knowledgable. Lots of movies and fun stuff choose from. So glad youre here!!
👌
Best Store, ever.
Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Great prices. Great selection. They had some good sales on their MOTU figures and other figures as well. This was a great find with a little something for everyone. It was also cool to see that renting DVDs is still a thing. Would definitely recommend to fellow geeks and collectors. They also support local artists which is awesome.
Super chill spot in West Asheville. Neat merch, plenty of selection, super helpful staff
Best occult movie shop around!!
Cool staff, always helpful and great selection.
I love this place. The employees are extremely friendly and inviting. The atmosphere is great and they have amazing prices.
Friendly staff homely store always has something new
One of the coolest shops around! So many good things can be found here! Need an old game boy in tip top condition for a good price? They got em! Craving a new game on ANY console or hand held? They got em! Obscure dvd for a fun night in? Well guess what? They got em! Swing through, take a minute to browse, you’re going to find something!
Very Beautiful atmosphere and nice 👩 👧 💀 always great experience great inventory of horror and 🎮 and everything cant wait to shop again.
This store filled me with happy nostalgia. I love that there is still a place to go and rent all sorts of movies from modern to cult classics to foreign films. I cant wait to bring back family movie nights :)
Best store in town. The most fun to visit. Everyone who works there has a different expertise but theyre all knowledgeable enough to recommend you anything. In the mood for a particular kind of movie? Just ask. Love weird video game stuff? Theyve got it and theyll help you find it. Like comics or random memorbelia? They have a great selection and good prices. I suggest asking them for horror movie recommendations - Ive never, ever been disappointed. Great guys, great shop, a must visit for tourists and locals alike.
A cool video rental shop in downtown West Asheville. Its getting hard to find places like this and such a refreshing site to see Orbit still renting to customers. And so much more then just a video rental shop. They have new videos to buy as well as cool movie and video game merchandise. They even sell old gaming systems like n64 and games. An all around cool place to check out. Just wish they still rented PS4 games.
Cool DVD rental shop that also sells vhs, DVDs and blurays.
A rad little hole in the wall in West Asheville honestly, whether you wanna rent something obscure or buy some good games for cheap (mostly) theyre a great local spot for sure. Plus they buy back stuff that box retailers typically wont so it doesnt hurt to bring by your old games and accessories either. Overall nice staff and a neat ever changing selection of older and newer games/movies/imported toys ✌️
We were looking for a place to buy some comics are were so happy to find this place! I have an 11 year old and a 16 year old and when you get them to agree on something you know its special.... they agreed as we left that This was the best store they had ever gone to- they had everything I could have wanted and stuff I hadnt even thought of! Movies, comics, collectibles, oh my! Thank you to the staff who were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and made us feel very at home there! We are from Erie, PA and we wish you were closer!
This place is amazing! As a retro gamer, their selection is fantastic regardless of the console or generation. I love to shop local, when I can, and Orbit has given me a reason to never go back to GameStop... Like I really needed one.
I always enjoy shopping here. Great selection of hard to find videos and games. Knowledgeable friendly staff and great prices.
Old school movie store with tons of movie and video game rentals..cool deal: if it easily replaceable, you can buy it. Great vibes in this place. Also carry memorabilia for your inner geek and lots of pre-owned games and systems..they range all the way back to Atari!!
Love it. They have a great selection of movies to rent as well as buy. Great gaming selection too. Staff is always awesome. Cant remember names but the girl with glasses and long brown hair is the best!!
Recently was able to visit after planning for over a year. Fantastic to see a store so well curated and hitting the mark. Fangoria mags, hard to find VHS, and cult figures galore.
These people are shady and rude. After renting the first season of game of thrones we realized they gave us two disc 5s instead of a disc four. And so we started watching disc 5 after disc 3 and realized that the sequence was off and now the mystery was spoiled. This mistake wasnt that big of a deal except when we returned the wrong disc we went ahead and returned disc 5 because we had just watched enough to spoil disc 4 and they didnt have disc 4 in stock. So we asked them to credit disc 4 and 5 so we could watch them in proper sequence and they just kept repeating but disc 5 was correct, but disc 5 was correct over and over. Movie people should know you dont watch a series out of order! We have spent a lot of money in there and it seems ridiculous. Also they want you to hold on to your movies that you bring back until you check out your new ones. So you have to walk around holding onto your movies while looking for new ones. They are rude a lot also.
This is the best part of living in West Asheville. We go all the time. We are even thinking about getting a subscription. They have the best oddities and books.
Great place to buy dvds, games ect. They have friendly, knowledgeable staff And just a great place to be at!
Good selection, garbage parking out front.
Vast, boundless, extensive, mammoth, tremendous selection of movies for selection. Give yourself plenty of time to wander through Orbit, as you will certainly need it! Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and more than willing to assist in the selection of the video that will complete date night, round out a collection, or expand your repertoire of hey, Ive seen that!
Amazing place to rent and buy videos and video games. Nicely organized selection including great staff picks and movies your less likely to find anywhere else. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The rentals were extremely cheap but theyve switched to renting day by day instead of weekly. An in all a its a gem in Asheville for any film lover.
One of the coolest places Ive ever been. If I lived in the area, Id spend all of my time and money there.
Pretty nice collection. I went in to pick up a movie for my wife and I to watch Halloween night and they had a huge selection of horror movies.Edit: I’ve spent much more time here since writing this review and I love this place. Highly recommend if you love collecting physical media.
One of the best places in the world. A saving grace that still sells VHS.
So fun to look around for a DVD again. I miss the old video stores and Orbit is truly a unique place.
This is one of my favorite local Asheville businesses of all time, they have everything film you could ever imagine and even some you cant! The staff is amazing, especially tye, jamie and evan.
I love this place. I love it so much. Great rental program, super cool art and cult movies you cant find anywhere else, amazing staff with cool reccs and honestly I want to live here haha. Its a really cool place that i love visiting.
This is a great place to buy secondhand movies, games and old school gaming consoles for a very reasonable price. Friendly staff with all kinds of neat things to purchase. Comics, movies games etc. You never know what you will find here so its good to check in often since there stock changes often. You can also rent movies and games if you dont want to purchase them and they offer layaway, witch is awesome.
Sole remaining outpost of movie freedom. Check out theBest Movies Youve Never Seen corner. Ask the staff anything about films and get more in response than you bargained for. Theyre not shy about their love of horror and grind house. Tons of movie paraphernalia: posters, action figures, patches, stickers, and a serious book collection. Definitely my favorite video store ever.
Edit: Please read the owners reply before reading my review. Three phone calls and in store visit were made. My apologies if the situation seems made up to him. Anyone who problems are escalated to, certainly feels like a manager to me.I never give bad ratings. And in fact I use to love this place. This rating has nothing to do with the quality of products in this store. Its a great place to find almost anything. This rating is based on the reflection of a situation and how it was dealt with by management and the owner. This situation occured about a year from this review.I rented a family movie at this store. It was a movie with two discs. When I was checking out, I remarked to the cashier if he had made sure both discs were in the sleeve. We got sidetracked about some Fantastic Planet memrobillia. I left the store without verifying for myself what had happened. A few days later I went to watch this movie with my daughter, and realized I hadnt gotten the first disc. I called them and told them what I thought had happened as soon as I realized there was a missing disc. At first, I received a rather nice reply and they said they would look around for it. The next day, when met by a manager however, was where the incident went south. He started the conversation by telling me I wrong. I had been given the movie. Virtually, signalling that it was impossible that any employee made that mistake. He told me that the whole store had went through basically every case in the store looking for it. Over a thousand movies. In less than twelve hours. Not only was I gaslighted over a family movie, I was patronized. This manager, someone who I remembered we had both worked at a Blockbuster at the same time, informed me I would have to speak to the owner. Of course that was fine. As I left, he made a comment to a co-worker about how awful I was. Im not, and Ive done everything I can in this review to hopefully reflect how polite my tone is.I was told that their employees never make mistakes.A few days went by, and I spoke to the owner. Who basically launched into a tirade about how movie store rental people are so often victims of bad customers. What bothered me in this sentiment, was that he implied that I was that customer. I mentioned by own background in video rentals, and told him I know where he was coming from. But the thing is, I was not that person. The owner ended the conversation by telling me that not to worry, I wouldnt be charged any late fees to which I replied that I wasnt worried about late fees, I just didnt want to be charged for a movie I never received. So a few months go by, and I noticed I had been charged by them. Of course, I knew why. I called them just confirm. Offered my condolences that they had lost my business, and that they were once one of my favorite businesses. Of course, I was met with the same patronizing tone that had became the theme throughout this conversation.I dont write bad reviews, and I know the owner will read this. Im absolutely sure that he will either respond with same level of apathy I encountered throughout this whole situation. If not, it will just be act of self-realization. No one needs to jump through hoops over a kids movie thats now available on Disney+.I hate that. I want to support local because I know first hand what the shift in the market has down to rental businesses. I also understand the desire to not want to be taken advantage of by clients. But after visiting this store for years, I never expected to be handled so dismissively by the very people who I had done business with for years. Over one movie. I tried every nice guy line in the book. Empathy and consideration for their situation. Instead I received only flatness and the kind of customer service one would expect at a nameless corporation. My best of luck to them. I know there are plenty of people in who remain loyal. But hopefully they remain cozy with management or the owner. Because its apparent thats the only time they would ever admit wrong doing. Mistakes happen.
One of my favorite businesses in Asheville! I drive from Henderson county to rent movies and shop. The selection is great because the employees actually like film and can recommend great choices. There are new releases and all sorts of obscure movies to choose from as well as stickers, novelties, books, and a revolving door of other items. Go here!
The selection was as youd expect, new and classic movies. They had a movie playing on several screens throughout the store. Our issue was that in order to leave with a movie, you needed to leave too much personal/financial information. We were just visiting the area and were excited to take a step into the past .. rent a movie from a store. But it didnt work for us to leave as much information as was required.
Awesome kitschy store with tons of movies, trinkets, books, and games! Pricing was definitely competitive! Will be back next time were in town!
This is our go-to place. We dont have cable or Internet, so this place is perfect for us. Not only do they rent out and sell movies, they also sell comic book and movie memorabilia. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and this place is open every day of the year
Another hidden gem of Asheville. I can’t say enough about how awesome this store is. If you are into retro movies, horror, 80’s pop, or video games, this is a great place to check out. If I lived in Asheville, I would at Orbit DVD all the time.
I somehow always leave spending more money then I went in planning to spend. That is not a complaint but an honest praise. It takes a lot to pry my money away from me and I always find something that easily does it in ur guys shop. Staff is super awesome even when Im sure working in West Asheville could seem at times as repetitive.
Amazing selection of used games, consoles and DVDs! Every time Im in Asheville I have to stop by!
Really cool place to stop and rent some movies, its also full of nerdy comics, games, collectibles and more. The staff is super helpful and set us up for a membership quick, rental prices are competitive and drop off is super easy.
Ive know about ORBIT for 18 years now its been the coolest place ever to go hey games and movies and music
This is a great place to find used DVDs. They have a huge selection to buy as well as rent. They also have a large selection of video games, and they buy DVDs and games as well.
Orbit is the Blockbuster of the 20th Century Asheville without the pushing sales people or late fees. The selection of movies is phenomenal and the people who work here are both extremely intelligent and have a vast understand of the movie buff culture. On more than one occasion I have went in seeking something super specific but vague such as a “weird movie” and they have been able to provide precisely that. Typically when I ask this question at other stores they will offer some common movie or will google it. It’s both refreshing and amazing to live next to a place that is both cheap, friendly and helpful.
Excellent place. Very kid friendly and willing to go the extra mile for their customers
They allow dogs and were friendly 👍
The staff is super friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of movies, games and books. I love the atmosphere of this shop.
We head over to Orbit at least once a week-their monthly plans are great! We just bring back our movie and trade it for a new one. Staff are friendly and love to talk movies. They have a broad selection, so you can always find something new and unexpected. They also now carry beer!
HUGE selection. Rental prices are great. One of the only places around here that sell GameCube memory cards so thats an instant 5 star for me. Used game prices can vary on a great deal or just average.
This store has a really good selection of just about everything! Their prices are really fair and theyre very helpful with finding things. Definitely recommend!
Orbit was a great stop for browsing a shockingly wide selection of Blu-rays and games. Orbit may not have the most recent selection, but for fans of classic or cult titles, theres probably no better stop in the area. Staff are helpful, but you might be best served by a few hours of browsing the aisles.
The guys and gals who work here are incredibly knowledgeable and are always open to making super recommendations. I have gone in there in every different kind of mood, and they have always nailed the right movie for the mental place I was in. Check out their staff picks shelf in case they are busy, its usually full of some gems!
Awesome place, Great staff!
Very unique store. They have everything the big corporate stores like GameStop lack.
Love Orbit. They have a great selection of a variety of electronic needs. I always rent movies and they have everything you can think of. This place rocks!
Awesome selection of new and used products. DVDs, both retro and modern video games, collectibles, board games, comics, etc. The staff are friendly and helpful. Ill definitely be going back.
