This place is really fun and old fashioned. The owner is kind and hardworking. We love supporting small businesses and Retro Lube is doing a great job. Fast, friendly and affordable.

This WAS Retro Lube... This location is now a Valvoline. I was instantly sad and confused as I drove by initially looking for what I recognized as Retro Lube. No more old time feels. Rocky sold this location but I was told theres still one in Goldsboro, NC. Ive been to the now extinct Asheville Retro Lube a handful of times and maybe I just miss the nostalgia the most and that main chains are taking over. Anyways, I got an oil change at this fairly new Valvoline and my experience with the new Valvoline was quick (I pulled up and I was the only customer and was done in less than 10 minutes), courteous and fair priced. Its bland in comparison but Im very happy with the service as a first time experience!! Appointments are still first come, first serve.

High prices and didnt fulfill the listed services. As we were leaving we saw someone drinking straight from a liquor bottle in the back. Checked following their oil change, found the wrong filter on my car. Paid $70+ for the premium oil change and ended up with an incorrect, half sized, $3 filter. Wonder what oil I actually received!

I’ve been going here for years and trusted them with any oil change/filter/etc needs that I had. Liked the vibe, liked the staff. An older gentleman I didn’t recognize took my car from me this last time and I asked for an oil change and a tire rotation. I chalked my back tire to make sure that the rotation happened, since I had been burned once before elsewhere with that. I waited, was called, and went out to see that the chalk mark was right where I left it. I inquired and was ensured that it happened. Then I mentioned the chalk and the narrative changed. It became “well, so-and-so looked and decided you didn’t need one.” The $30-odd dollar charge was still paid by me, though. I didn’t pay it for advice that was never delivered to me. The gentleman who I kind of associate as the face of RetroLube (Antonio, if my memory serves me) stepped in and took the car back as I watched them rotate my tires. The oil change was all fine and dandy. Two stars because I have had good service here before, but this last experience poisoned the well. It’s a shame and now I’m back to looking for a place I can hope to trust.

Great place for oil changes and such. Havent used for any fixing jobs though. Fun place that looks like oldies which i love. Has pictures of oldie tv show stars and license tags. Can watch Andy Griffin

This place has the best customer service around all of Asheville. I had my oil change and the manager I believe his name was Dave went above and beyond . As he was going over my car with me he was very professional and explain everything in that I could understand and not once did he ever try to pressure me into buying anything like other places around town. Once again thanks Dave for being so professional and kind.

Usually I take my car to the dealership because I hadnt found a place to go that was reasonable. Retro Lube came highly recommended so I gave it a shot and I am so happy I did. The atmosphere of the place was so different than what I had expected and the service was fantastic. I had my oil changed and then had my brakes taken care of at an extremely affordable rate. I cant recommend Retro Lube enough, I will definitely be back! They did not try to sell me things I didnt need nor did they overcharge me.I didnt realize I had to ask for the synthetic oil as a default, but looking back on my experience, that was completely my fault. I assumed they would know, but we all know what assuming does. Next time I go back, I will certainly ask! Thank you guys so much!

Owner is helpful, has great staff. Sent my daughter over to them. I trusted that they wouldnt up sell or try to scare sell her on something she didnt need; thats not their style. Theyll tell you what they find and let you decide the next action. Usually pretty darn quick, too. Its refreshing to see a biz that says what they do and stands by it. Thanks!

Stopped in for an oil change. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff and very fast service. Not to mention the price was about $20 cheaper than anywhere else we called today. Will definitely be making this our go to place!

Have used retro lube for a couple of years and have had only the best service. No appointment needed!!! They carry synthetic fluids and offer suggestions if they find something else wrong. Mr Woods is very professional, polite and knowledgeable.

This place is amazing. They had many cars ahead of me and still got me in and out in an hour. The people there are very knowledgeable. On top of a oil change (that I requested) they said my car needs an gas system flush. Idk what that is but its running great!! Will be going back for all my car needs.

I went after work today, very close to their closing time. I called ahead to let them know I would be a late one. What I got was an exuberant Come on down! Wed love to have you! I showed up, they asked me what oil type and they took it from there. I went into the lavishly decorated waiting area and got myself some surprisingly fresh coffee and watched the Andy Griffith Show (playing on two tvs!) in a very comfy retro car sofa. I couldnt have been happier waiting on my oil change. It took all of 12 minutes to complete. I honestly didnt believe it was over and had to laugh when they said my car was out front. I am very pleased and will be back. Thank you Retro Lube!

Great people running this place. Got us in and out very quickly and did not charge anything since there was nothing wrong with the car once they checked out our issue. Would recommend to anyone.

I have nothing but the nicest things to say about this place, they are amazing! I only go to them for my oil changes and break replacements.One time when I needed breaks really bad and after running around because Walmart lost my wheel lock, their lift broke. Instead of sending me away, the employee said he didnt want me (pregnant at the time) driving around on my bad breaks and fixed them anyway, lifting the car on jacks by hand.Their attention to customer service is above and beyond. I happily recommend them to anyone who asks!

Cute because they wear bow ties! Fast! So fast! They seemed nice, they bring out any parts they want to replace so you can actually see them, and heres the kicker, they vacuum your car!!!!! Im an Uber driver, I change my oil every month, and Im sure coming back. I needed my car vacuumed and they saved me the time and effort. Worth it! They even wash the windows.Above and beyond any other oil service I have had. And cheaper.

Weird, unprofessional vibe all around. From when I called (immediately asked to hold, hear staff members talking/arguing about something in the background), to when I went in (stood at desk for 10 minutes unacknowledged, staff walking right past without so much as look in my direction), to when I got back on my bike and went somewhere else.

I have never been to a place as helpful, thoughtful, and as nice as these guys. Theyre more than willing to help you with every problem and they do a great job of it too. They will go out of their way to make sure everything for you is okay. Because of the job they did, they earned a lifetime customer out of me! I will never be going anywhere else for any car problems or even something simple, such as an oil change! They have an awesome waiting room with lots of old time things. They even give out free popcorn! I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat and will continue to do so with my friends and family.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place! I was sent by my landlord for brake pads and I got that plus a warm welcoming staff. Every single employee I came into contact with was nothing but friendly and helpful. They are honest and don’t try to upsell or oversell you. And they are nice about having dogs in the store! Fresh popcorn also. Like I said nothing but good things to say!

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the lobby, and the service techs seemed nice enough. But, when asked whether I wanted synthetic or conventional oil for my car, I just said whichevers cheaper. He did not inform me that putting conventional oil into my car voids the warranty... They just asked me what I wanted, no included information. I left the expertise up the the mechanics, like many drivers do. Just glad i researched the subject and didnt drive more than 2000 miles with the bulk oil.

Was in visiting the Biltmore from out of town and needed my cars fluids and tires checked. Hapoened upon this very cool oil change station. It was quite early in the morning and the gentleman there were polite and very helpful. They checked all my fluids and added air for no charge! The retro car in the front and truck they were restoring was a real treat to see. Highly recommend stopping here weather you need air or an oil change..and be sure to check out the cool cars.

It was a surprise how fast they were when they changed my oil. Friendly staff, and they even refilled my windshield wipers fluid. Which they never said they did. It was a nice surprise.

Over charges, I would definitely watch them. Went in for a oil change and came out paying 170 dollars for literally nothing, a week later had to go to jiffylube and get another oil change because my oil light kept coming on in which jiffy told me, looks like my oil was never changed.

Fastest service I have ever received for an oil change and inspection. Friendly staff too. I also liked the old-timeyness of it. Very classy, fairly priced, and highly recommended if youre in the area.

I recently had an oil change at Retro Lube and my car started leaking oil from the filter. I drove about 300 miles away from home and noticed it when the car was smoking badly and a quart low on oil. The bottom of the car was covered in oil then, and it was leaking faster all the time. I got it to a service shop before the engine was damaged. Oil was literally spraying out of the side of the filter. The shop said it was on very tight and was damaged when installed. However, an oil change with new filter fixed the issue. Upon return, the owner of Retro Lube gave me a full refund and also paid for my other oil change and diagnostic fee that I incurred which totaled about $175, which I thought was more than fair. Also, I had several oil changes at Retro Lube in the past and had good service then.

Went to get my car inspected here was not graded welcome or anything staffed walked right by me as if I was invisible one guy trying to talk on his cell phone and work on cars at the same time I have to ask what do I need to do to get it and inspection when they were taking cars in front of me at that I have been standing here for 15 minutes

This place is a rip off. The waiting room is cool, but other than that I was very disappointed. I came in just to get a simple state inspection. First they told me I needed new wiper blades, (which I didnt) but I didnt feel like arguing, so I just asked was that the only thing keeping it from passing? And he said yes, so I went ahead and bought the wiper blades. Then he came back and told me I needed a new sensor to make my check engine light go off. (Crap. That lights been on since I bought the car.) Anyway, $250 in parts later, and Im still sitting here waiting while they apparently do the entire inspection again. Cant wait to see what they come up with this time. This place sucks.

In town from ATL, needed an oil change. I was literally in and out in 15 minutes. Woods came out to greet me, discerned my needs, and efficiently took care of it. Would use them again and highly recommend!!

Buyer Beware.This business seems to have no moral or ethical scruples advising additional, unneeded services that will run up your bill a lot.If you are not car savvy--Id stay away. These guys arent looking out for you, just looking for an extra quick buck.I went in for an oil change and left with a whopping $200 bill in frivolous unneeded services they advised.When confronted about these practices, they did provide a partial refund to the tune of $60 to save some face.Still, for your own well-being take your business elsewhere.

The convenience of no-appointment service and the speed of service is great, but the price you pay is careless work, which has resulted in a damaged vehicle that I ended up having to spend more money on to fix at a different shop. Not a good deal.

It started out great but ended very badly. I had heard good things about this location and gotten some oil changes here before deciding to get my transmission fluid changed (due to great service prior to). I paid them the money and sat at the shop while waiting for my work to be done. About two months later, I moved and took my car to a different location for an oil change. I was then informed that my transmission fluid needed to be changed and to my shock, it was worse than how it was before I went to retro lube and got my transmission fluid changed. Turns out Retro Lube ended up charging me for a transmission fluid change and DID NOT actually perform the services. I am so disappointed and will be seeing if there are any other measures I can take.

My husband and I have used retrolube since they opened and were quite pleased with their services and planned to continue to use them. We were particularly pleased with Woods as he was informative and did a great job for us. However, the last time we were there someone else took our business I do not know his name. But both of our vehicles were making noises they shouldnt. We did expensive repairs on both vehicles and when we got them back BOTH were STILL making the exact same noises. We took them to another shop (Precision Tune) and after additional expense they were fixed. Now, I dont mind paying for a necessary repair that fixes the problem. But I DO mind paying out for something specific and the problem remains. Just tell people you dont know what the problem is and let them take it elsewhere. Do NOT tell them its one thing and hand them back the keys to a vehicle they have PAID to have fixed and NOT fix it. I will not so much as have my oil changed there unless this is made right. Awful m. Ive been going here for 7 months and I went in the other day and the guy wanted to charge me 230 dollars to change my air filter! Are you serious!? And they say they topped off my fluids on the list and said they vacuumed and did not. Awful will never go back

The dealership told me that whomever changed my oil last left the oil drain plug loose (i.e. Retro Lube), and as a result, the oil all slowly drained out of my vehicle. Im lucky that there was no damage to my engine. A simple oil change, if done improperly, and result in some serious damage. Buyer beware.

My goto in Asheville for a quick oil change and small jobs. The owner and his staff are always top notch. The main shop employee saved me a ton of money. I went in thinking my Honda had one issue and it ended up being unbalanced tires/bad rotation job. In total saved me around $700.00. Not an easy diagnosis either. Cant recommend this shop enough.

What a cool place!!! While traveling in Asheville I found myself in bad need of an oil change. As an out-of-towner, I was thrilled to find Retro Lube. I was greeted by a friendly service rep who told me the wait was only 20 min. While I would have been perfectly happy to wait longer because the reception area is adorably decorated with retro memorabilia and serves free popcorn, I was pleasantly surprised that the wait was really only about 20 minutes. They also discovered that I needed to change the transmisson fluid so I believe they are very thorough and knowledgable.I highly, highly recommend this place and wish more places like it existed.Did I mention the mechanics wear bow ties?

I have given them more than one chance, my list of problems include substandard oil, oil filter not secured properly, air filter cover not put back on correctly, missing valve stem caps after they checked my tire pressure. After returning home after the last oil change, I found oil on my garage floor the next morning. I went to my trusted professional I use for all my scheduled maintenance and watched him discover each problem. Save yourself a headache & pass this place up!
