We went to Ayers when I visited our son in Arlington and we’re amazed how it reminded me of the general stores I grew up with. These stores are a real gem nowadays——they have a little bit of everything and my son says he has gotten lots of useful information from staff on what he would need to tackle a project. The big box stores don’t offer this. He finds things at Ayers that he can’t find other places and it’s his favorite “go to” store, conveniently located not far from home.
Lovely store with everything you need. Very helpful staff.
This place is so awesome! I go there for the most random stuff and they always have it. This is my go to hardware and random stuff store.
Absolutely love this neighborhood hardware and a variety store. It’s a classic five and dime store from the good ‘ol days. I always make a stop here on my way to Home Depot, anticipating that such a small store won’t have what I need, and invariably they consistently surprise me and come through.Whether you are looking for a specific tool or the most completely random household item, it’s likely they will have what you need.
I find more things I need at this store without having to go from store to store. I also prefer to support local businesses.
Ayres has what you need for home projects 95% of the time. Saving time traveling to the big box stores. They are wonderfully handy with a wide range of products from hardware to housewares. During my last visit I even purchased an Ayres t-shirt. 😁
They have everything we need and people who with expertise.
If you need it and dont know where to find it, check Ayers👍
Was able to find what I was looking for and had good service.
Have been going to Ayers since the late 70s and love it. It never disappoints.
Ayers seems to have everything one could every need, for a lower price than at big box stores and the staff are very friendly. It is also much easier to get in and out then at a big box store (especially since it is less crowded). This is a great first stop for anyone moving to the area!
It has unique items as well as things one remembers from childhood. The plants are great as well.
Im a big home depot fan, and this location is a s good as the rest of them! Parking lot isnt bad either!
Helpful staff and a wide variety of merchandise. Effective restocking policy as shown by being one of the few places in town that maintained an adequate supply of ice melt in the face of the recent ice storm.
Unique hardware and variety store combined. Found a variety of items for a smaller store.
Wonderful store and resource for our community.
This was my first time at this hardware store and I was really impressed by what I saw when I got there. It was like an old-fashioned General Store with a little bit of everything that you could think of including housewares and utensils, rubber boots, puzzles, plants and seeds, everything you could think of for your garden, household DIY projects as well as for craft projects. Worth visiting just for the friendly nature and service.
I love this store! The associates are always very friendly! I could spend hours here! Twenty thumbs up!
Great hardware store with helpful and knowledgeable staff. They have everything.
Well because of their great prices and the convenience of not having to go to home depot as well is the fact that I used to know Mr. Ayres when I was a child and I have to tell you he was a wonderful man
As long as what you want is lots of variety and lots of hardware, youve come to the perfect place.
Classic tiny hardware store with an additional variety section of odds and ends. Its nice, but theres a consistent small vibe on several of my visits - in the variety section of the store - as to why Im browsing too long or asking some questions. But overall, its a nice, classic hardware and variety place.
I can get what i need there😊
This is what a true variety shop should be! Great staff, clean, well ordered shelves and aisles, good prices and product galore. Need a cast iron skillet, Ayers! Need a set of sheets, Ayers! Need a toy or book for the children, Ayers! Ayers is a wellspring of product. And dont forget the hardware aisles.
If they dont have it, you dont need it!
A great place to go when you need hardware, garden supplies or housewares. Ayers has a wide variety of products and some that you can get nowhere else. A large variety of nuts and bolts, washers, and rivets. Lots of seasonal plants and garden supplies. Very helpful staff. Usually have no problems parking behind the store or out in front at non-peak times.
They have a great variety of merchandise. Hardware, paint, bird seed, sewing supplies, housewares, candy, office supplies, socks, underwear, etc. And they are the nicest people.
Ayers is a hidden gem. They have everything you need and the atmosphere is awesome. Its like walking back in time.
Like grandmas basement, its got one of everything you could ever need, with a friendly and generally knowledgeable staff as well. If you need one or two of something, always check here before heading to Home Depot or ordering on Amazon. Support this awesome business.
I love this place and could wander around for hours. There is a hardware section, a kitchen and houseware section, a pet supply section and even a wonderful toy section. Best of all....they sell vintage candy.
We were able to buy individual screws for a small project, as well as a specialty drill bit. Lots of miscellaneous household items, craft supplies and candy. Very nice experience with helpful staff
A true local variety and hardware store one can explore. I throughly enjoy a walk through to see what is available, new or a classic product that is still available. I think they carry just about everything including seasonal items. I came to have a key cut... none of computerized cutting. Lots of seeds for planting(some types not sold by the big box stores). From gardening to arts and crafts to plumbing to seasonal and so much more. I prefer to buy from small business.
Want to replace some small part for your house (new or old households) go to Ayers -- they Will have it.
This is the neighborhood hardware store you have dreamed about. Responsive staff above all.Seasonal plants at competitive prices. Good problem solvers. Fun neighborhood near a beer place and great public library
Ive been a great fan of Ayers for nearly 40 years. It seems like you can find nearly anything here, and if they dont have it they will order it and you can pick it up in a few days. Admitting that Im a bit long in the tooth, maybe it reminds me of the 5 and 10 cent stores I knew in my youth in the 1950s, but it is a terrific hardware store, kitchen store, yard goods store, toy store... you name it. Because its associated with a chain (True Value Hardware), the prices are generally reasonable, and it is rare that you will not find what you are looking for. The staff is helpful, they have experienced people who can advise on home maintenance and construction issues, and like me, you may find yourself coming here just to look, even if youre not sure what you are looking for.
Great place. Have lots of things you cant find in big hardware stores. Prices competitive.
Nifty local store with all kinds of stuff; household and hardware
They have everything, and its like a trip back in time. Support this stellar local business.
The best hardware store in Arlington! Friendly, helpful staff; surprisingly low prices; great selection. I often pick up incidentals there that I hadnt thought of previously, but that I really need! They make you feel like youre in a nice small town. Bonus: They are in the best neighborhood for errands (Westover!).
Ayers is a fantastic local hardware store that takes care of almost all of your needs related to issues around the house as well as stocking a lot of other items to help you decorate or celebrate. As always, please support your local businesses.
There are a few places in Arlington that are iconic and this is one of them. Retro candy, toys, games, wagons, small appliances, yarn, kitchen gadgets, oilcloth and fabrics by the yard, coin albums, metal cleaner, decorations for every holiday (including Thanksgiving!) plus plants flowers and herbs out front and oh yeah a pretty good hardware store. You could spend hours there.
Super friendly, helpful. Feels like your dads hardware store.
Amazingly well-stocked in a variety of things, super convenient.
They always have any random thing I need and do the best job of making key copies.
Always my 1st go to place for hardware and housewares.
You can always count on Ayers for holiday stocking stuffers! And I was surprised with a senior discount. Thanks, Ayers!
Love this place.Helpful.Old school charmMy kids love the candy lane
Ayers has a little bit of everything, and almost certainly what you need. Ask for help if you cant find it, the staff are friendly and if they dont know they will ask someone who does. Great local business.
Great neighborhood store. So many items that you dont find elsewhere.
Incredible helpful staff. The man who helped me recognized the screw I was looking for on sight, and was able to find more in a matter of seconds. He also knew exactly where to find everything else I was looking for.
The variety of hardware is okay. Parking is great. (Park in the back.) The service is okay.
Very kind and helpful staff with all the hardware stuff I ever need
A very helpful young store employee help me find the item I was seeking. That kind of service is hard to find in one of the big chain stores.
Go to Ayers FIRST!!One time, while doing a turnover on my condo, I needed to replace a toilet seat. I took the measurements and even took a photo of the seat with the tape measure to ensure I picked the correct size and shape. I took this info to Home Depot in Seven Corners, thinking Id pick up a bunch of other supplies at the same time.I asked in the bathroom dept for assistance in finding the seat. I was told that the size I needed doesnt exist. I showed the photo I had taken with the measuring tape to him and another associate and they both insisted that the seat in the photograph doesnt exist! I ditched my cart and walked out, driving immediately to Ayers.Of course, they were happy to lead me to the exact seat I needed.Another time I was looking for sparkler birthday candles. I started at Party City, Target, and any other store with party in the name - no luck. I happened to be in Ayers a few days later and they had the exact candles I was looking for!! For less than $2!!I have a dozen of these stories...I love this place, and its my 1st stop when I want anything from coffee filters for my 1960s percolator, to Dip It cleaner, kites, socks, signs, blow horns, odd light bulbs, bird seed, candy... they have everything, and are happy to be there and assist us. THANK YOU!
This place is a dream for anything you could ever need or want. From dyi tasks at home, to every household good. Its also the only place I know that carries a great selection of jigsaw puzzles. Every person needs to walk in this store at least once
This store has everything!!!! If you need a special light bulb, wire, plug, hardware anything this is the place. They have school supplies to games to clothes to art supplies. The list can keep going. The staff is always friendly. I like that this is a family run store and not a Walmart or a major chain. I also can walk here or take my car. Best store in town. People from out of town come here if they need a certain item that is hard to find.
Consistently received Positive and courteous service
I love having a place like this nearby where I live. It is a little like stepping back in time. In addition to having all of the essentials, they have parts for older household items. They also bring the old school customer service.
This place is an Old School Hardware Store has a lot of odd things that the big box store dont carry
This place is a life saver. Support ur local stores
This really IS the spot for hardware, plants, gardening, toys and a lot if other important items. Stop here BEFORE Home Depot or Lowes. Its a great place and service is spectacular.
Has practically everything a home DIY could ever want. Prices are good and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Great resource to have in your neighborhood.
My last visit, I walked in and collected a disparate group of household and hardware items in a few minutes that you could have easily spent over an hour locating in a big box store. Such is the power of Ayers. Yes, the things may have cost a little more than at the big box store. Among the things they have: sewing notions that you dont have to go to increasingly rare fabric stores to obtain, greeting cards that arent smutty, and household products that have been pushed off the shelves at mainstream grocery stores. I think my blood pressure goes down ten points every time I walk in there.
I grew up going to Ayers because they literally have everything and anything you could need at a decent price. Ill still travel over 25 minutes out of my way to stop by and get glass cut, keys made, or pick up kitchen gadgets. Can I give them 6-stars?
They have the products you need for a home and you can generally find someone to answer questions the staff works together
It’s not easy to get stoked about a hardware store, but this store is so convenient it is hard not to be stoked about them. For the locals in the area they have a phrase, “if it’s not at Ayers, ya prolly don’t need it.” Great service, fair prices, love them.
Great community hardware store. They have a little bit of everything in here. They usually have what you are looking for here.
Good place to look for odds and ends.
Best variety store around. I think they have one of everything. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Ayers has stood the test of time because of their friendly, knowledgeable staff and seemingly endless selection of goods. Their prices are comparable to the big box stores.
Top notch local hardware store. You’ll be amazed at the things they have, which almost certainly includes what you need.
A hardware store where people know things....? You have to see it to believe it. Everyone here is so nice and extremely knowledgeable. Store has everything.
Theyre great. I keep going back here, despite their prices sometimes being a smidge higher than Home Depot or Loews (which is to be expected from a smaller company). I just bought a house and theyve had everything Ive needed so far after about 10 trips.
Always has what I need. Staff is very helpful
Great local hardware store.
Great neighborhood hardware store and they are very helpful.
Traditional hardware store. Always helpful and knowledgeable staff
Worlds Best little hardware store, convenience for seniors A++++, friendly service,if they dont have it staff will go out of their way to help😊
Amazing what you can find here
Nice community hardware for all home needs.
Competitive prices and great service with asmall town feel.
Great selection and a great hometown business.
Greatest neighborhood hardware - nay: *anything* - store in the world.
Just what you want in the quantity you need
Best hardware that helps their customers
Very nice staff and a 65 and over discount.
I cant speak highly enough of this place! One would think that a small store like this would not be able to compete with nearby places like Home Depot, but actually, it not only outdoes them in helpfulness and service, it actually has a MUCH better selection of tools and chemical solutions (Flitz Polish, Brasso, things like that) and its prices beat anywhere else I have seen. The ONLY reason I still sometimes go to Home Depot is for large-scale building materials and things like mulch that a smaller place cant have due to space concerns. For anything else, this is my destination.
Great local neighborhood hardware store!
Great neighborhood department store.
Always helpful!
There is so much stuff and its very reasonably priced
I really like it. They literally have everything that youll ever need.
When I need a thing or two they usually have it in stock. And they make good keys by hand, not the machine made kind you see at the mega stores.
They just dont make em like this anymore! General store with vintage vibes. The staff goes above and beyond.
A great place to find ANYTHING and everything
If you cant find it anywhere in Arlington, check Ayers. Great store, nice people.
Ayers has everything from 1 screw to sidewalk salt to contact paper. Always my first stop for repairs and DIY.
Unfailingly, Ayers Variety and Hardware staff assists with every request made to them. It is a pleasure to deal with a local store like this one!
This treasure is an old school 5 and 10 with everything you need, plus a hardware store and garden centre. Skip Target and go here.
