I was craving a bagel and lox. Badly. So this place seemed like a good bet. I had read the previous reviews about issues with incorrect orders, and the suggestions that one order as clearly as possible to potentially avoid similar problems, so when I stepped up to the counter I thought I was ready. I spoke directly and quite clearly, IMO, as I requested a plain bagel with cream cheese, lox and capers. The man behind the counter nodded and said cream cheese and capers. No lox? Hmm. I shook my head and responded, Lox, yes. I definitely want lox. I would like Lox, cream cheese, and capers please. He nodded and asked, tomatoes? I said no tomatoes. Just lox, cream cheese and capers.” He nodded again. Got it.He got right to work on my order. I couldn’t see what he was actually doing, as the counter between us was unusually tall and completely opaque, but he seemed focused and confident in his ability to successfully execute the bagel topping task at hand. And there was no one else in line to distract or divert his attention. I thought all was good.We sailed smoothly through checkout, and I strolled out the door with my freshly made bagel wrapped up and packaged in a refreshingly simple, unbranded paper bag. I believed success was certain.Once seated at a sidewalk table outside, I opened the bag and saw that I had indeed received lox, cream cheese and capers… AND tomatoes. AND red onions.?!?!?Seriously? How did we go wrong? I honestly dont know how I could have been clearer. Perhaps I could have added, No tomatoes, for real. AND no red onions either, in case youre thinking I want those and just forgot to mention them. But given the explicitly unauthorized tomato inclusion, I dont think that would have helped. I requested it one way. He just made it his way. Very strange. But at least I got everything I DID want… Plus a bit extra.Once I removed the extraneous tomatoes and onions, all was fine. Nothing groundbreaking, but perfectly good for a basic bagel and lox. If thats what youre in the mood for, its one of the better options out of the few in the area. And if you like tomatoes and onions, its an even better option.Unless they make it differently in your case, of course…Its kind of like walking into a Seinfeld episode.
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. This is our absolute #1 bagel spot in all of NoVA. The staff are so kind, the bagels are so fresh, and we can always rely on it to cure a hangover. Sometimes they even send me coupons over email. Today were going for the last time before we move away from the area...we will miss you Brooklyn Bagel!!
Great breakfast bagel after a flight from the west coast. My kids love east coast bagels the most
These guys have the gift. I can say conclusively that they make the only bagels anywhere near DC that rivals Jersey and NYC. Their lox and whitefish are fantastic too. To live your best life you need these bagels.
Food is great - but they yet again they raised the card minimum from $10 to $15. Their argument is card processing fees - but literally everywhere has card fees, grow up. Your establishment received multiple complaints and instead of removing the policy - you raised it. We’ll go to Bethesda Bagel up the street or Corner Store Bakery.
After 12 years of visiting this place they still have the best bagels in town. Updated interior. Now accept credit cards for orders of $10 or more. Order in or carry out. Friendly & fast service. If you see a line dont leave, it moves very, very quickly. All sandwiches, breakfast made fresh on site. BEST BAGELS in town. Excellent drinks. Clean.
I think these bagels are just.... fine. Not the worst Ive ever had, for sure, but not great either. I think they fall flat in terms of replicating a NY bagel, but overall they are better than other bagels in the DMV.
Got two dozen bagels ($14 each) and a tub of cream cheese ($4). The bagels are top notch, the best I’ve had in Virginia so far!
I lived in Brooklyn for 15 yrs and remember fondly the great bagel factories with warm, fresh, aromatic bagels of every type. I hoped this place would be like that. It isnt. At noon they were out of many varieties and none were warm. Still, the bagels are pretty good in an area where pretty good bagels are hard to find.
I have been coming here for almost 20 years (all with the same ownership) for reliably excellent bagels. Fast service even when their is a line.
I love this place, the breakfast sandwich is my go to and the bagel and salmon sandwich is exquisite. Take out is super fast as well
Great variety of tasty bagels that definitely transport me to NY and NJ! Dont forget to bring cash or your debit card, as youll need to pay cash if your order is less than $10.
I’ve ordered from Brooklyn bagels several times over the past year and I’ve finally made the decision to stop buying bagels from their establishment.1. The bagels are unnecessarily hard and stale. Every time I eat their bagels, I suffer post prandial masseter pains due to the vigorous chewing required to digest the bagels.2. The disgraceful branding is improper as this establishment does not pay homage to what it truly means to serve a Brooklyn bagel. As someone who was born and raised in Brooklyn, I truly find this disrespectful.
Outstanding bagels! Feeling crazy!? The bacon, egg, and cheese on the french toast bagel will blow your socks off. Need a little healthy pick me up? Light, veggie cream-cheese with alfalfa sprouts on the pumpernickel bagel is guaranteed to help you stay on course. Everything is authentic and delicious and they have something for everyone.
Delicious bagels! The best outside of NYC.
Best NY style bagels in NOVA!We have family in NY and always bring home bagels when we visit. This is the closest we’ve found to NY style bagels in this area. Outside is firm, slightly blistered, inside is chewy. And bagels are huge, perfect for sandwiches.
Great NY bagels ... great fresh varieties
The best bagels in town, hands down.
I love new York style bagels and this place hits the spot. Great service, great bagels.
Proper bagels! Real, proper bagels! Best place in town if youre coming from New York and want a solid bagel. Some of the other local good bagel places were profoundly disappointing, but Brooklyn Bagel Bakery is worthy of the name. Bonus, they carry Dr. Browns Cel-Ray.
Fast service and decent prices for whats being offered.Food was meh and not very flavourful. Also thought there couldve been more bacon and eggs on the breakfast sandwich.
Always great. Good food, fast service, great location. How they can remember everyones order I will never know.
Please note: cash only!!Pleasantly surprised to find out this place is actually really good. It doesnt look like much from the outside, but the inside tells a different story. They have great lunch specials for $6 (I got the gyro - it was awesome) and their heaping portion of fries were some of my favorite.I will definitely come back to try more!
*This place only accepts cash!*I hate places that dont accept just as much as places that ONLY accept cash. I find it to be super annoying because Im sure plenty of people have been caught off-guard by this (my sister being one of them).Otherwise, Brooklyn Bagels is the epitome of satisfactory. Their lox and cream cheese bagel totally hit the spot for me after yoga, but it didnt wow me. Their pizza is displayed behind a glass pane which you can see right when you walk in, but it looked dried out. If youre going to leave your pizza sitting out, at least have heat lamps on them or something to create an illusion of freshness.Their menu is extensive, so it seems to be a great lunch option for people in the area. If you really have no idea what to get, pop in here and gaze at all the bagel and sandwich options. I got the feeling that a meatball sub here would be pretty good, but thats not based on any first-hand experience.I loved their spiced chai! It was insanely hot, but thats the way I like it since I nurse those babies for as long as possible. It was creamy and comforting on a rainy afternoon.I certainly wouldnt recommend this place to anyone visiting, but if youre local and youre just looking for another food option, dont expect much but this gets the job done.
Good bagels. unfriendly, but authenticly New York service
Some of the best bagels Ive ever had!
Im from NY, so I can appreciate a good bagel. Fast service... Good bagels
Brooklyn Bagels is one of the areas best bagel spots. Their bagels are the closest thing to authentic New York style bagels, hands down. The owners and staff are super friendly, even on a Sunday when there is a line out the door it is ALWAYS worth the wait. If you think a chain bagel spot is better than this place, youre delusional.
Excellent NY bagel experience. Not sure they are quite as good as Ess-a-Bagel in Manhatten, but I didnt have to pay all those tolls to cross the Hudson to get there. Hot, chewy and delicious. Not the bready doughnuts we have had to adapt to down here. Served up with a rapid fire; place your order, pay and move on to eat that we are more accustomed to in NYC.We also visited another local bagel place today in search of locally sourced bagels. They were very nice to us and their bagels were strangely, perfectly round, no texture or character...almost cookie cutter. We were horrified. Go to BBB to get that New York experience and be ready to place your order when called upon!
Best bagels in Arlington, not even up for debate. Only downside is that there is a $10 minimum if you are paying with card, which isnt that big of a deal just grab yourself a coffee and youll be set.
Fast service, delicious bagels and plenty of options at a reasonable price. There is an ATM if you dont have cash as this is cash-only payment. I got egg, cheese and salami on an onion bagel with herb & garlic cream cheese as well as an orange juice. The bagel was superb (high quality ingredients & eggs not overcooked). However they misunderstood my order and gave me 2 different bagel orders (and charged me for two). I didnt bother correcting it cause they were both so good (second bagel was onion bagel with plain cream cheese that I didnt order). The fast service and quality food more than made up for their mistake. Im sure they would have corrected it if I pointed it out. Overall I highly recommend.
Bagels are a bit tough on the outer skin for using for sandwiches (making it easier for sandwich fillings to fall off when trying to tear off a bite).
Awesome food. First time and I was impressed
Convenient spot to meet up w/ atty in early am. Pricey; very pricey.
This is the perfect local bagel shop. Are the bagels out of this world? No but theyre certainly better than average. Honestly, Id much rather go here than over-hyped places like Call Your Mother. Plus, the people who work here are great.
This is the best place ever! Ive been getting bagels here for 2 years and I love the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommend. Its always nice to talk to the owners when theyre in. My favorite place in Arlington and they have outdoor seating!
Great bagels with fast service. Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich is the way to go.
Real NY style bagels. They run out of some flavors so we call ahead the night before and they save for delivery or pickup.
Many classic options ensure they have something for everyone’s diet preferences. We ordered ahead online (great site, by the way) and were able to quickly walk in and out to pick up our order. Any sandwich can be put on your choice of bagel!
Quite honestly the best salt bagel, butter spread, egg, swiss w/ tomato I have ever had (32 years old, cross-country traveler). I love Brueggars Bagels in Ballston because of their cream cheese selections and aesthetic appeal, but this establishment has the lox spread (i think my Aunt gets that and its delicious). Great service and professionalism at both locations. Try both, if you can, and decide for yourself!
Had a lox in bagel and a Frappuccino with great service. I’ll be back for sure!
Good breakfast sandwiches
Been coming here for years, great food, bagels done the right way!!! Staff is always wonderful
Very busy spot, could use some better signage to mark pick up for online orders. Food was great. Gets 2 stars because I ordered lox and cream cheese on my bagel, but didn’t get the lox. I had already driven back to my apartment and didn’t want to fight the crowds to get the order corrected. Pretty disappointed because the bagel was delicious and was looking forward to the lox.
Best bagels in DC area
I wish everyone could have a Brooklyn Bagels right near their home. Amazing little spot with superb bagels & even better service. (& I grew up in Jersey, so I have very high bagel expectations). Highly recommend this place !!
This place is GREAT! Breakfast sandwiches are excellent. We ordered online for pickup and they accidentally missed one of our bagels. Instead of just refunding us for the missing bagel, they drove to us and delivered it, as well as other free food as an apology. Super awesome customer service, and the food is great.
Amazing New York style bagels
Great steaks and potatoes, excellent service!
Ordered their ALT, avocado, lettuce tomato and chipotle sauce. It was so flavorless and hard I barely choked down a few bites. People in my party thought their bagels were too hard and chewy but the flavors were alright.
Delicious bagels and tasty sandwiches. And yes they now accept credit cards!
Bagels are fantastic!!! Went looking for a real bagel shop, meaning one that has bagels with flavor, consistency, freshness and just the right amount of fluff. And we found that and more!!! Kids got to make their own bagel while we sat down and enjoyed ours, watching the entire bagel making process through glass was amazing too. Great staff, social and engaging, great customer service. Coffee was delicious as well. And $12 for a dozen amazing bagels?! SOLD. We are definitely looking forward to going back. Cash only bit great because they have an ATM in there in case you forget to bring some with you. Vibe is very much like a NY bagel shop, great spot.
Best bagel/bakery in VA. Their website is insanely efficient, they have a huge variety of food and drinks, super quick and accurate presentation, and was delicious. It’s hard to find good quality bagels outside nj/ny and I was blown away. Highly recommend.
Best bagels and sandwich creations
I always go for the triple decker on sesame here which is normally a great sandwich for the price. A few times its been made with half of the meat and isnt worth the $8.50 price
Great service from a long time neighborhood shop. Bagels made on site. Very good COVID-19 social distancing protocol.
This has been our family’s regular weekend breakfast spot for well over a decade. Super consistent, speedy and friendly service. Even if the line sometimes goes out the door, you’ll be in-and-out in just a few minutes. Most of the team there recognizes us because they’ve been there serving it up to us just as long as we’ve been coming! Top quality and a great place to start your day!
Friendly staff - great food - excellent price
Great bagels!
***THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CASH ONLY!***Don’t be afraid of the long line. This place moves very quickly. The reason the line backs up is because PEOPLE DON’T BRING CASH.Be prepared with your order. It moves quickly and it’s totally worth it. The everything bagel is amazing, but you can do no wrong here.
Good bagels (big fluffy kind but some are baked too dark) . Good stuff. But only takes cash, which is made worse by a high fee ATM. Its the future, take cards! Payment limitations is an issue the business (not the customer) needs to fix. Plus, closes at 5pm, or I would buy a dozen bagels on way from work . Even 6pm would be fine.
The fresh bagels are quite tasty. The cream cheese is the best in town that we found after 4 months of looking for a new bagel shop. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. The limited indoor seating isnt a problem if you dont go at peak times but could be a problem if your party is more than 2 during peak times.
Best bagels in the area speaking as an ex New Yorker struggling to find a decent, non roll-like bagel here in the dmv. Bagels look like they’re made in house, so bonus for that.Keep in mind that they have a $10 minimum in cards and a $15 minimum on online orders, which is insane in this age of covid. Who wants to handle cash?
I never go here and I now remember why. Their bagels are horrible and the staff is rude. Oh and they always manage to mess your order up (I ordered a bagel....).
As a New Yorker I am a very tough bagel critic. These were amazing! Had a crisp outside and soft yeasty inside I crave. Best part was that they were so busy that fresh hot bagels were coming out all the time!
Its how a bagel should taste.
Not the best bagels Ive had, but reasonable prices and satisfying.
Take my money! But give me that bagel with a nice hunk of smoked salmon on it. Do NOT let the line scare you. They’re quick and efficient. Do yourself a favor and don’t skip breakfast! Eat at Brooklyn’s.
Best bagels in the area.
Best Bagel Locks in the east cost. You can definitely taste the difference between bagel made fresh daily and those frozen one most other places have delivered. Their employees are always happy to help and make everyone feel welcome. You dont see this type of service anymore.
Its 10:06 am. Its a Sunday at 10:06 am, and these guys are somehow out of French toast bagels. I have come here with my friends for three weekends in a row, theyve always ran out of French toast. Simple economics tells me if you sell out of something fast you make more of it. I miss my French toast bagel, but alas, will never see her again as I wont be coming back to this cash only hole of sadness :(
Mmm
The ultimate in Brooklyn style bagel shops without the price. Excellent food and staff. They even got my kids involved in the experience by providing a portion of dough to make their own bagel, which they cooked afterward.
Great breakfast spot. Bagels are amazing!
Good food, terrible service
Tremendous bagels. Closest thing you can get to actual NY Bagels in the DC area.
Tuna melt is the best.
First time eating there and really enjoyed the food. The only issue is the employees need training in customer service, very rude!
One of my local favorites!
Most people would notice whats causing it but if youre sensitive to dust and dirt in the air this place is not for you. My skin started to feel a dry and itchy and I started sneezing a lot when I walked in the place. The bagels were good but would be so much better if they were baked a cleaner environment. They need to wet wash all the rain mat/rug things in front of all the counters. Most likely they also need to replace their HEPA of filters more often. They should also look for dust covered surfaces that might be higher then a person could reach to dust regularly.
Cash only. Don’t worry about the long line. It moves fast. Best part is you can order the eggs as you like. Nothing beats a bacon, egg, cheese, and cream cheese on a poppyseed bagel with the egg cooked over easy. It’s hot gooey cream cheese and egg yolk running down your fingers and chin.
They have a really good product but the place is not inviting, would be great if they could upgrade the place to a more comfortable design. With all I still give them 5 stars, those bagel sandwiches are the best.
How can you not accept debit cards? Making your customers pay $1.75 to withdraw money. Chances are you get a cut from that ATM fee. Bagels were way too full of seeds and the sandwich I had was prepared sloppily. I wont be returning. Bethesda Bagels is much better.
The best bagels, sandwiches, and baked goods along with fantastic service. Definitely the best bagel shop around!
One of my favorite bagel places in the DMV and a place I frequent every weekend. Its definitely crowded on the weekends but not as bad as Bethesda Bagels or Call Your Mother can be. I highly recommend going here for quality bagels and good service.Do note that it is cash only.
Reasonably-priced, tasty variety of bagels and bagel sandwiches. Just be sure to know your order when at the counter. These guys are efficient :)
The bagels and sandwiches were very good.
They only take cash. I did not see a sign to let customers know it was Cash Only. My ALT bagel had one tiny sliver of avocado. The bagel itself was very good.
Great Bagels at a very reasonable price. Do note before going that they are cash-only though they do have an ATM inside.
Alleluia!!!! This place gets it right and does it better than anyone in the entire DC metro area!!! Ive been looking for a great bagel shop for four years and was introduced to Brooklyn Bagels by a work friend. AWESOME!!!! Everything Bagels are the best on Earth! Way to go guys!!!! Keep up the great job and THANK YOU for caring!!!
I got an everything bagel sandwich. It was delicious, and the customer service was excellent. I like that its an option for a quick, reliable, inexpensive, and delicious lunch - thats not overprocessed - at a LOCAL shop with personable staff.
They can have good bagels, but its inconsistent. The amount of cream cheese, the amount of toasting, and the freshness of the bagels change from visit to visit. Its still better than a lot of bagel shops around, but I think they can improve. I would eat here much more often if what I paid for was more consistent.Ive worked at a bagel shop before and Ive been spoiled by living in places with really great bagels previously. I am new to this area, so Im looking for a place to be my go-to spot. It seems like the owner has been spending more time here so maybe there will be improvements!
Best Bagel I have tasted in Arlington. We had delicious food at Brooklyn Bagel!
The bagels are made on location. Come early because some popular bagel types will sell out. This location only accepts cash.
