Awful! Will scam you for every dollar with a 500 % markup. Put the cheapest parts possible on my bike & charged insane prices - the “tune up” was a joke. Some places are just awful.. this place is one of them.Zero stars should be an option in rating.

Voicemail says open until 5pm, website says open until 5pm. Called ahead to try and reserve a bike because I was coming in from Atlanta, Georgia. Person I spoke with said they would be open and available so he wouldnt let me reserve. Showed up at 430 and got greeted by a sign stating that they changed hours and closed at 4. This is absolutely unacceptable to not update the information on the voicemail, Google maps website OR inform people that hours have changed. I drove over 11 hours under the guarantee that this shop would be open and have bikes. No wonder this shop has such a terrible rating of this is the quality of service they provide.

Fabulous and caring service from the owner. After selling me a part to fix my bike seat, it was evident I had absolutely no idea how to reassemble my bike seat. There are a lot of negative reviews on here, but I can only speak to what I experienced which is that the store owner was extremely helpful when I walked in and needed some quick repairs done. He diagnosed everything immediately, and I found the labor and prices for parts to be extremely reasonable. Hes owned the store for decades; this is a true Ann Arbor local business. I plan to return for all my bike repairs and maintenance needs.

My bf and I took our bikes here because we both live downtown and this seemed like a convenient option. My bike ended up turning out alright but my bfs bike, unfortunately, did not. They will do the work you request but no more - meaning, if theres something else wrong with your bike, they wont investigate the root cause / call to let you know.Id recommend going here only if you have no other option. Im certain there are more competent bike shops in Ann Arbor than this place.FYI - they do have an air pump outside (that you have to pay for), but Bivouac provides free air. If your tires are low - and its during business hours - save yourself some quarters!

Pro - Under new management. Mark, the owners son, currently manages the shop. He is fair, reasonable and upfront. I rented a bike on 3/30/2013. The tire on the bike went flat shortly after the store closed. I called Mark and he waited 1 hour and 30 minutes after the stores closing time just so he could repair my tire. Later that day the tire went flat again. When I returned the bike he apologized and gave me a full refund with NO HASSLE.Con - Some of the rental bikes are a bit old. No checks accepted. Cash deposits only for bike rentals. You must pay the full total upfront before renting the bike ($60 cash deposit + $30 rental fee). Previous reputation gained by the sons father for being unreasonable and unfriendly.Bottom-line - the store is under new management. Dont judge him based on his fathers reputation. Based on my limited experience with Mark he seems like a fair and reasonable man.

Polite service, they had exactly the products I was looking for, helped me make my decision, and let me buy them.I had initially gone to a different bike store a few streets away, having seen that this place had been poorly reviewed. However, when I asked about the items I wanted to buy at that other store, I just got copious amounts of empty talk thrown at me. The guy tried to convince me that I didn’t need one of the items I’d requested (I suspect this was driven by the fact that they don’t stock them), and when he was done talking down to me in a 10-15 min monologue in which my comments were not permitted, he immediately turned to the next customer without having sold me anything that I had asked for. The whole situation was farcical and completely vexatious. By that point I was done and headed elsewhere. At the Campus Student Bike Shop, my experience was much simpler, much more pleasant and took all of 5 minutes.

I wish I would have read these reviews before buying. Bought a used bike for my son, which he rode around on the sidewalk and it fit him well. When we returned home, the chain would fall off every time he switched into the highest gear. We took the bike to a LBS (we were visiting Ann Arbor), and we had to spend another $30 for a new part. The guy at the LBS told me that this was totally unacceptable even for a used bike. Further, the price was ridiculous. I usually do my research before buying but bought this in the moment. I spent $220 for the bike, another 30 when I got home, and I could have bought my son a brand new Trek with front suspension and much better components for $275 online. It just makes me furious. The LBS bike shop priced the bike at 75. I have never written a review before, but when you get scammed, I wanted to warn others.

Ive had two really negative experiences here. The first was I took my bike in for a tune up, and as I was riding it home the sealed bearings in my back hub just fell out.I decided to give them another shot because the got a new person who works on bike. Unfortunately I was burned again. They were rude, and ungrateful for my business. I spent $300 there on a used bike and a couple parts. I came back to the shop the next day because the rear brake was poorly adjusted, and I was having trouble adjusting it myself. Instead of honoring the fact that I had bought it yesterday, and just making the adjustment, the told me it would be a $15 table charge, on top of labor. This place is a total rip off. The two old men that work there are slimy. AVOID THIS PLACE!

Experience of selling my bike. Unreasonable price + disappointing service. Simply put: worst every bike shop.Yesterday, I sold my bike at 25 bucks to the f**king store, with front wheel being stolen during last weekend. The odd thing is: when I came in two weeks ago with a wholesome bike, they also called the price of 25 bucks. I would wonder if they have got my wheel in advance during last weekend.I bought it at a price of 300 in 2012 Fall and have spent more than 200 on fixing it at this f**king store. Then, all I got was 25 bucks in for trading it in. I think this explains why the store could be running for over 40 years with so so horrible service. In California, for a USED bike SOLD at the same store, service fee would have been waived!! F**king bad store, period.Worse still: I dropped the lock and bell (which I took away from the bike purposefully for my new bike bought from Amazon) in the store and they just kept them!!! THEFTS and dishonest ***.

I recommend you avoid this store at all costs. The owner, Bill Loy, has been gruff and uncommunicative every time Ive come in. Recently, I bought a used bike from the store- I quickly discovered that I had been hugely overcharged and that the bike had a number of problems. It was unrideable after three weeks of gentle use and indoor storage, and the shop owner was completely unwilling to help me in any way except for charging expensive repairs that didnt address the underlying problems. NO GUARANTEES NO REFUNDS, now I know why!Read reviews on Yelp and youll see Im not alone. There are lots of other shops in the area and youre wasting your money if you spend it here.

HORRIBLE!! I had an experience similar to some others who left reviews. I took my bike in for new brake pads and conveniently when I got back on that same day I had a kink in my chain that was not there before the brakes got repaired. This shop, as great as its location is, is the worst bike shop to go to on campus by far. Dont be swayed by its promises of high quality parts or fast service. If you want to be served by condescending employees that appear to have a lot of knowledge or blame you, the customer, for any sort of problem, then by all means let them touch your bike. I just went in to buy parts, I would never let them touch my bike. I heard air isnt even free at the shop. Check out a smaller shop like Ypsi Cycles or Transition Rack, or go to Common Cycle on Sundays for a free, friendly, informational check-up/repair.

Absolutely terrible experience, a complete ripoff--do not go there. Took it in to replace the tires, which $70 later was accomplished. However, right after I picked it up (literally on the ride back), a kink in my chain miraculously appeared making the bike unridable. I took it back in, in hope that they would correct their mistake (I found a bend in one of the segments of the chain), but the mechanic simply told me that my chain was old and warn out. I had just bought that chain less than a year ago and have put less than 100 miles on it. Chains can and should last for 1,000s of miles and when I first brought it in the bike was riding beautifully. I hate giving people bad reps, but they definitely deserve it after the experience they put me through.

March 2018 -- The quick summary is that CBSB is not what I would consider a LBS (for those unfamiliar with the lingo, a local bike shop is a a small business specializing in bicycle sale, maintenance and parts -- compared to a large box store or online warehouses). Instead, it is the equivalent of a used car lot for bikes. You can find used 1980-90 Schwinn and Huffy (Walmart-type) bikes for the price of new entry level Trek, Specialized, and Giants. So if I dont consider this place a LBS, why three stars?1. They can copy old keys that Home Depot, Lowes, and hardware stores around AA did not have blanks for.2. They have essential bike parts if youre in a rush. If you cant wait a few days for a $10 part to come in from Amazon, then you really cant complain for getting price gouged for 5x that. Isnt this how Kinkos makes money too?3. The few times I was here, I was treated respectfully. I cant confirm or deny the repair horror stories as I do my own bike repairs, but I cant see the old lady at the checkout or the old man who cut my keys treating customers maliciously.

I happened to be on central campus and stumbled upon this bike shop and paid for a 3 month rental (old bike), totaling $140, $50 bucks being a deposit.I misplaced the lock and the tires went flat twice and when I returned the bike, they charged me $40 or so dollars for the damages.Criminal.Long story short, they hustle newbies like I was with their centralized, official name.

I brought my bike in because I happen to work nearby. It was a mistake. I should have gone somewhere else. My bike was having shifting issues not going into the highest and lowest gears. I specifically asked for the rear and front derailleur adjustments to resolve the issue because I didnt have time to do it myself with my workload before the holiday weekend. When I picked up my bike 24 hours later they told me that the chain had to be replaced. I said ok thats fine and all the chain was really old anyway. Then I asked if they did the derailleur adjustment to the front and rear. The guy stood right there and said Yes. I asked about if it went into all the gears. He said yes he tested them. I said ok. Walked the bike out to my truck and put it in. When I finally got home and took it for a spin down the road....yep you guessed it. EXACT SAME PROBLEM. The derailleur stop prevented them from going into the gears. They either lied and didnt touch the derailleur or dont know what they are doing.

This has got to be the absolute worst bike shop in the Metro area. They are extremely overpriced, and every single employee I have encountered there is rude, argumentative, and does not know what theyre talking about.I got charged twenty-one dollars for replacing a tube there, a 3 minute job. They charged me seven for the tube, and fourteen dollars for three minutes labor. Ypsi Cycle or Wheels in Motion would both have done the job for twelve dollars total. Seven for the tube, five for labor. Campus Student bike shop overcharged me by nine dollars.I recently got in a bike accident, and took it there to get their opinion. They did not care that the rear derail-er was causing problems, and were instead focused on my carbon handle bars which appeared bent. They proposed heating the carbon and bending it back into place for over sixty dollars, something that would have damaged the carbon even further. They clearly know nothing about their work.Case in point, dont go here. Ever. Please.
