We have been to this Marble Slab location several times. It is usually one of our favorites, even if it is more expensive than most places.However, we went into the store tonight and it was not a good experience at all. First, we ordered 2 regular dishes of ice cream without any mix ins. The servings were very small. The ice cream didn’t even go up to the rim of the bowls (the portions were equivalent to about 1 dip of ice cream). I then ordered a regular with a few mix ins. I asked for caramel. The girl helping me said they only had the hot caramel and asked if I wanted it on top. When she squirted it on top, it came out the color of hot fudge. I pointed out that it was not the right color and the employee told me their caramel is always that color. I tasted the sauce and it left a horrible taste in my mouth (it was burnt caramel). When I explained this to the two teenage girls behind the counter, neither seemed to care and neither offered to remake it. I did however, get them to take it off my bill (and I left the inedible ice cream behind).After I got home, I called to talk to the mgr (in hind sight I should have done it while I was there, but didn’t want to hold up the line behind me). The mgr. admitted that the caramel was burnt because it hadn’t been changed. She also said the two girls were new employees and didn’t know that caramel is not that color. I understand that they may be new employees, but if they had only worked there for two weeks and the caramel “always comes out that color” then how long have they been serving burnt caramel? Whose job is it to check it?After I realized she wasn’t going to see that her employees were in the wrong (or that as the mgr of the store maybe she should be checking the caramel and such daily). I didn’t even mention the very slow service or small, expensive ($6) servings.* please note that this is my first review of any type that I have ever posted, but after this experience, I felt compelled to share.

The first cone I had was probably one of the best ever, however on subsequent visits the cones (they make them from waffles they bake onsite) were not up to par. A bit overpriced if the cones arent perfect.

Very surprised about bad reviews, visiting from Minnesota and was blown away by what it was and the flavors, add ins. Customer service was ok, just kids with no personality but I’d give it a five, they did their job and the product and what they offer was amazing! Not over priced, average pricing, same as most real ice cream shops.

We have went here for years, but since the recent ownership change things are not the same. We have made a tradition of going there most Friday nights. Since the ownership change they are out of ice cream flavors and the cookie cake slices are always out. This was never the case prior.

Marble Slab has all the right ingredients and enough flavors to throw the most decisive into momentary brain freeze. You will not be disappointed by the competant staff and clean restaurant either.

Took my family of 4 there and got 4 cookies & a Banana Split Sundae. Customer service was great & the treats were delicious. Almost 3 year old had to go to the bathroom & it was very clean. They were partnering with a local non-profit to raise money for the homeless which was neat. Will be back soon!

Occasionally I will treat myself to one of the absolutely amazingly delicious cookie cake slices. SO GOOD! I love that I can get it somewhere other than inside of a mall like it used to be back in the day. Keep up the good work!

Went here with my gf for a date after we had gotten some tasty tacos, the place and service was amazing, the people there were super nice and amazing and even charged me for a small shake when I ordered a medium just bc they didnt have anymore whip, absolutely delicious food, cant wait to go here again!

This place is always good and fun. Try the shakes they are pricey but are very good and can be loaded with goodies.

My husband and I took our granddaughters here several times last summer. The employees were wonderful with them!! Very patient with them while they tried samples before finalizing their orders. It was close to closing time and the ladies didnt even get upset when the girls wanted to eat their ice cream there, they just cleaned up around us and even played with the kids!

This was one of the best places Ive ever eaten at before! The employees were incredibly sweet, and patient, and, although it is pricey, the ice cream and cookies was better then Baskin Robins, which was my favorite before I ate here! I would go everyday if I could afford it!

I went there and ordered a large cookie with a design with a lot of frosting. The employee helped design it and I paid for the cookie to be picked up the next afternoon. The next morning, I was contacted by the owner and was told that I would have to pay more to get the cookie. I explained that I paid the agreed upon price for the product I ordered. He claimed I was trying to manipulate him. I agreed to pay more after he threatened to not make my order. Instead of accepting that his employee wasnt trained properly and then teaching his staff properly, he chose to make it the customers problem by threatening to not provide the product I ordered. Randy Lippert is the owner and is a piece of garbage. Do not trust this guy.

Tons and tons of options, on top of that, the store was super well kept and was absolutely clean, not even just around the food, but the actual entire store was perfect. The employees are welcoming and make it feel like its just a night out, the one who helped us, was super patient with all our shenanigans and gave us all explanations and what not. Overall, loved it. Best random craving ever.

Its been a long, long time since I have been in a Marble Slab Creamery. And itll be a long, long time before I return! My son and I ordered two mediums (about half a pint each) in cups ... $12.91. I thought Jesse James rode a horse! The flavor of the ice cream was good, but it was so soft it was melting. All in all, not a good experience. Id recommend getting two pints of Ben and Jerrys from Hy-Vee (for $5 + each), and forgetting about the Marble Slab Creamery!

Basically a clone of ColdStone, but with better ice cream. Their ice cream is all homemade, and it really shows! Tastes excellent!Staff has always been friendly and willing to help those of us who are more indecisive. Price is a little higher, but its absolutely worth it.They also do cookies and cookie cakes as well.

We have been going here for a awhile and recently the customer service has dropped extremely. You walk in and are not helped at all even after they make eye contact with you. As another worker in customer service this annoys me sooo much. Put your stuff down and help the customer that is standing 4 ft away. I honestly just want to go back there myself and get my own ice cream because I know I’d do a better job serving myself. Willing to bring my money somewhere else and try new places. The owners need to start being there, and actually train the employees and not slack off. At this rate this establishment will keep getting bad reviews.

I love Marble Slab’s ice cream so I bought my graduation cake from Marble Slab last month. First there was an issue with which cake I wanted to order, the cakes on the website and in the store were inconsistent. The manager ended up calling me and said she could make me the cake with the grad cap on top. I went into the store and ordered a cake with red and gold for ISU, and I only wanted cookie dough so the manager said she would put extra cookie dough in it. When my mom and I picked up the cake we realized the colors were red and orange instead of red and gold. We told the lady checking us out and she said “Well I didn’t make it,” and that was the end of that. Extremely rude service. When we cut the cake there was BARELY ANY COOKIE DOUGH in it! I was expecting big chunks, and it seemed like the person took 1 cookie piece, put it in the blender, and then solely used that in the cake. I was very disappointed, especially for a $40 cake! I don’t think I will be back for awhile after the awful service we had and the cookie dough-less cake.

This place is also Great American Cookies and Marble Slab under one roof. They have a Great American Cookies sign right under the Marble Slab sing. Refused to honor a great american cookies buy one get one coupon. Doubt will be back. They lack customer service abilities!

I love Marble Slab and Great American Cookies. Visiting from Oklahoma and worried I wouldnt find my favorite ice cream place but I was really surprised, here it it. We went in around 8:30 and was greeted before we even came in with numerous eye rolls. Me and three of my friends went in and the employee stood very impatiently at the cooler, head in her hands like she was staring into the abyss. We order and were greeted with a thirty dollar bill for 4 people. I understand this is a “hip” place, but come on, 30 bucks for ice cream. Went back out to our car to see them continue to whine and moan about how we came in. I’m giving up the hipster ice cream and heading back to DQ. Would not recommend.

Was excited about the Great American Cookie opening at this location but what a disappointment. Have been there 2 times and was so excited to be able to get the double doozie but both times the cookies are hard as rocks and not much of a selection to choose from. Cookies felt like they had been sitting for a few days. Manager or owner not very friendly at all, would not even give an employee a cash drawer to give me my change...He walked all the way to the back to get the $.34 I was owed back.

Ice cream was good but the last 2x we have been there to get ice cream, it melted into a puddle of mush veeeeerrrry quickly.. been to way better places... not to mention the prices, we bought 3 waffle cones and only 8oz of ice cream in each, which is the smallest u can get and our bill came to little over 26 dollars... expensive!!! Birdsahls in Mason City Iowa beats this place by a long shot...

Love the ice cream! But the customer service is horrible. The girl who waited on me was very rude and slamming items around like she was annoyed to be waiting on me. Bad attitude. They should have name tags or Id more than gladly put her name here. Best I can describe her is she has piercings all along her left ear. My husband and I will not be back for this sole reason.

She seemed to have a bad attitude (rolling eyes, huffing/puffing, slamming items around, etc) hence why we did not tip! I understand having a bad day, but when people come in expecting nice service after being outside with kids all day it kind of puts me in a bad mood.

The ice cream is great! You can choose if you want toppings and such on your ice cream but it does get quite expensive. There are not that much tables or seating in there so I would recommend taking it to go.

Food is terrible. Even worse is the service. The owner is a drain on society. Terrible food, owner who doesnt pay his bills. Has been sued over 11 times by different companies. It has been stated to me he is a con artist.With 11 lawsuits listed on the Polk county courts website, clearly this guy has no moral compass. The owner is an absolute ass, personally I think he is literally clinically crazy. All over a few bucks. As you can see in the multiple reviews, he does a bait and switch with coupons. Offers them on groupon or other places, and for no reason when you go in, refuses to accept them.

The boss was so rude. He didnt accept our coupons, and didnt give me my change. He disrespected my friend and said rude words to her, and gave dirty looks at her. He was not nice to us at all and was one of the meanest men I have ever met. When we have him our money he yanked it out of our hands, and did not show any respect at all. Marble slab has lost me and my friends visit each Friday. We will find a new place because this man was way too disrespectful, where other ice cream places are much more nice and kind to the customers.

Best ice cream in town.

Good on hot July days

First issue: Walked in around 7:00 to recieve an eye roll that was so overdramatic. Second issue: Server not wearing gloves when handling baked cookie slices with her bare hands in the background. Server was very rude the whole time and once I payed for my fiancé and I’s ice cream she sprinted to the back area so fast I thought she was trying to qualify for the 100 meter dash. I’ve seen horrific service and this place has one of the worst.

If you ignore the higher prices you still cant get over the fact that it just was not that good. Unfortunately we were there on a night where at least one person was brand new. The shake I got was just like drinking milk.

You should not give your money to this place. There are plenty of other ice cream places to go to. You should not support the owner of Marble Slab, theres something wrong with him. If you read reviews on other websites they will verify his poor treatment of employees (who are all young girls) as well as customers.Id like to share a little of my own experience as an employee at Marble Slab when I was 14. It was my first job and unfortunately had an affect on how I viewed myself and my future with any job.I had always been a straight A student and your average teenager, although introverted. I remember interviewing with the owner and he came across unnecessarily passive aggressive. I was nervous and ended up expressing two different dreams of future careers at two different points, and I remember him pointing that out specifically and questioning whether I was lying the whole interview. Its normal to have several career dreams when youre not even high school, and the way this authority figure acted toward me was not okay. Then at the end when he told me I was hired, he questioned why I wasnt expressing more excitement? Over the next week he asked to speak with my mother on the phone multiple times to make sure I was ready for this job and had my schedule sorted out. Looking back it was all just weird.So I go to work. I try really hard to be outgoing and friendly and work hard and do everything well. All of the other girls warned me about how tough he could be. I worked there for three days. On the third day, I remember him quizzing myself and the other girls the whole night, in front of the customers, even though there was a huge line of people waiting to order. I remember answering all of his quiz questions quickly and correctly and feeling very proud of myself.At the end of the shift after we had spent an hour closing the place, the other girls left and he pulled me aside to talk. I honestly thought he was going to talk to me about how I was doing a great job. But he then proceeded to fire me. His reason? I didnt have the right personality. What does that even mean? And after just three days? Unfortunately I was young and lacked life experience and confidence, so I just tearfully nodded and walked out the door.In the grand scheme of things this may seem like no big deal, but its something thats always bothered me and I never got stand up for myself. I dont believe someone like that should just go through life without ever being confronted about their actions.Anyway I went on to get another job at a different restaurant, and they liked my customer service skills so much that I was featured in a national brochure and they asked me to stay to manage my own store. But I ended up going to Iowa State, graduating in a major that I was passionate about, and now being a successful young adult in Des Moines.But every once in awhile I think to myself what not having the right personality meant. And just wanting to say something. So I wrote this long review. Just please dont support this place and the owner. Im sure hes treating other girls exactly the same today.

Marble Slab Creamery is the new age of ice cream establishments. The age of we do not need to honor our commitments and if you dont like it - to quote the manager - Thats OK. Marble Slab refuses to honor their Groupons. Their excuse - too many people were trying to redeem them. Pardon me while I get out my violin. Isnt that the point or do they not understand the purpose of participating in Groupon. Isnt it to bring in business - or in their case it was to drive it away.In my opinion from having had ice cream there on occasion you dollar is better spent at a self serve yogurt business. Their ice cream is too rich for my taste and not that good.

Yes we walked in ten minutes before close, but technically you’re open until 10 so you should still be serving. The girl with the classes and dark hair was super rude and continued to ask the others who worked there what time it was and little snobby comments. She continued to roll her eyes and was even super rude to the people she was working with. That girl needs an attitude check. That’s all.

Theyre ice cream is decent I guess but there employees are rude and the boss especially bc he wouldnt except me or my friends coupon, making my friend pay full price which she didnt have bc she was expecting to pay with the coupon and she started crying bc he threatened to throw her ice cream way and I ended up help paying for the ice cream. He treats the employees with disrespect and the customers with disrespect. Also when we went to sit down to eat our ice cream he pulls the employee to the back room and we can see then looking and pointing at us and then telling her stuff about how if we use the coupon again with a different # (which is what my friend did thats why he didnt except it) that they would actually throw the ice cream away with no hesitation. At the end once me and my friends all have our ice cream he comes over to my other friend who didnt have any problems paying and said next time tell them that I will be throwing away their ice cream if they use the coupon again, when me and my other friend are sitting right next to her.

Unlike Coldstone, they have pistachio ice cream. -1 star for no chocolate shavings. Mini chips just arent the same.
