I’ve been playing guitar for more than 55 years and I can tell you with complete certainty that shop owner Bill Whitsett is the absolute best in his field when it comes to repairing and maintaining stringed instruments. I’ve been taking my guitars to him for set-ups, bone nuts and pickup installs and swaps since around 2005 or ‘06, when he was in Lowell. His prices are fair and his work is impeccable. He’s as honest and up-front a craftsman as you’ll find anyway and stands behind his work 150 percent. I drive about an hour from my home in New Hampshire to his shop because, quite frankly, he’s the only guitar tech I trust to get it done right. When you find the best, you stay with the best.
Bill is by far the best and most forthright in working with wood. Damn special guy too! Bring your instruments here. Youll thank me.
This is the place to go. Amazing craftsmanship and a fantastically friendly place to go. Couldnt be happier with the work done fixing all of my homemade mistakes and setting up the guitar better than its ever been set up. Thank you!
Bill was great and very helpful. Roll the time to explain everything. Ill definitely be back.
Bill is a fantastic guitar tech.
The bridge on my Seagull acoustic was cracking due to a poorly fitting saddle. Bill made me a custom bridge and bone saddle and it plays (and sounds) better than ever!Another time Bill fixed a crack on the body of my guitar. The wood had dried out from leaving the guitar hung on a wall hook during winter, instead of in a case with a proper humidifier.
If your guitar needs work, this is the place to bring it to get professional work done. A+++++++ all the way.
I brought Bill an acoustic and 3 electrics to set up with one of the electrics also getting a new bridge and pickups and I have to say that all 4 of them are playing better than they ever have! His shop is super cool and hes really knowledgeable about all things guitar and you can tell he loves his craft. If youre looking for a guy to work on guitars, you couldnt put them in better hands! Thanks Bill!
Bill Whitsett runs a guitar shop where the work is done the right way. If you know what youre looking for with a guitar setup, Bill can make it happen.Ive brought in two electric bass builds, an acoustic, and a Les Paul. Each time I have been very satisfied with the outcome; whether it be electronics, hardware, or a fresh setup. Every guitar that comes out of this place sounds AWESOME, and Bill takes pride in doing things the right way, the first time.HIGHLY recommend this guitar shop. Thank you Mr. Whitsett!
Great Luthier
Can’t say enough good things about Bill Whittset. He’s a Master Guitar Tech/Luthier, hard working and honest. Only place to go for your guitar needs. Bring your Wood to Bill. Listen to his advice. Don’t forget to humidify your acoustic guitars in the case!
Every review is 5 stars, enough said. Bill is a craftsman. Fixed my Martin in a week and now it sounds better than ever.
If you own a guitar, you should know Bill. Ive brought a number of instruments to him and have always been satisfied with the results. He is a master of his craft. He is upfront about costs, risks, and timing.Google Maps is letting him down a bit, unfortunately. The location shown is for the building right before his at the end of the street. You have to drive past the large brick buildings until you see a smaller white building. His logo is on the outside of that building. Its about 50 yards further down from the brick buildings. You then have to walk into a door that feels like youre walking into the back of a restaurant kitchen. I didnt really understand what was happening, but his place is just inside to the right. Again, its well marked once youre inside.
Bill did a great job setting up my brand new Fender Strat, and also fixed a fret buzzing issue I had with it. It feels so great to play now. The turn around was just a few days, and right on time from his initial estimate.
If you wont settle for anything but the BEST, this is the place to go! Bill (owner) is a great guy and a master of his craft. From repairs to upgrades and complete guitar builds - he is simply the best of the best!
I got to say he knows his stuff. From Fretz to complicated electronics he’s fixed it all for me, most importantly my “work horse” guitars, I only bring to him!
Had a great experience with Bill. Very knowledgeable and my guitar came back sounding like new. I would recommend Whitsett Guitar works to anyone in need of guitar services.
As an authorized Martin luthier Bill has taken care of a number of my Martin guitars and I have found the work performed with excellent results within the time period and costs expected. If you need work done on an instrument I heartily recommend talking with Bill about it.
Bill has always treated me right as a customer and a person. He does quality repair work and is passionate about his craft. I have many expensive-vintage instruments and would never hesitate about bringing them to Bill. I recently had a new Ebony bridge constructed by him and it was as perfect as the original on my 1977 Guild D-55. The post work setup and fret job was equally impressive. For a one man operation, doing highly skilled and detailed work under time pressured requirements, he keeps it together pretty well. Being a solo act with 35 yrs of road experience and the inherent time and creativity pressures that go with that, I have great appreciation for such qualities in others. Thanks Bill-Keep up the excellent work!
Been using Whitsett Guitar works for years. Best Luthier you are going to find. Do your self, and your instrument a favor and go see Bill.
I came across Whitsett Guitar Works a little over a year ago when I pulled a couple of old guitars out of cobwebs and had Bill take a look at them. I figured my old Guild Starfire was likely just a decoration after sitting unplayed in a basement for 30+ years. Not only was Bill Whitsett able to fix these relics, but they play better now than ever before! My 66 Guild is a joy to play after getting it back from receiving Bill’s skillful attention and my old 70’s Gibson is “right on”! I have since brought several instruments in for various fixings and professional setups. You won’t find a more skilled Luthier anywhere. Be assured, you can count on finding good service and good people at this place!
Bill is the man. Hes taken excellent care of my cranky old Guild F15 and didsome very nice fret work to clean up my old 70s matsumoku Epiphone.
Best guitar repair around! Bill is a true professional.
Bill is the best! I cannot be happier with the work done to my prized Guild 12 string :-)
