You’re better off using one of the big box stores. Purchased a fan hood from SBS. Installers determined the control board was defective. Notified the salesperson who was happy to get a warranty claim started - two months ago. After regular requests for updates, I learn that he didn’t bother to check if the claim was actually submitted.Another two weeks go by. I ask for an update to learn he’s now out of the office until mid-September. I reach out to the store manager who says he’s “making phone calls.” Another week goes by. I ask for an update. And nothing…They will gladly take your money. But good luck getting anything resembling customer service when something goes awry.I used to think highly of the company. Not anymore and am posting this as a warning to others.

If youre building a small or massive project then youll find all the materials at SBS. There are two locations in Anchorage; this location doesnt have the vinyl siding, so youll need to visit the other location at 7828 Lake Otis Pkwy. This location is open on Sundays, unlike the other location. Plenty of parking at this location! Sadly this location has really tall stairs and the ramp is narrow, steep, and far away from the main entrance. If your legs are sore from a workout; if you suffer from a physical issue that requires handrails; or if youre in a wheelchair then youll want to use the entrance near Tudor Road and not the main entrance.SBS is owned by Builders FirstSource out of Dallas, Texas. Just had Anderson windows put installed in my home. Please, have on hand in the Mill Shop a display of the window for customers to look at and an example of Andersons white. Their white is not white it is more of linen. So without seeing the window and choosing a trim color my white did not match, it was close but it would have saved a lot of frustration on the customers part. The installers were fantastic! Trying everything to please my disappointment in color & make up of the window. All in all I am happy with the outcome. Thank you Keith, Ryan & George!

SBS destroys all other building stores by haveing quality materials at a comparable price to any of the Box stores, The gentleman behind the contractor counter can help you find anything youre looking for, if it seems to be busy there try the customer service counter theyre just as good if nothing else the paint counter is always available as well. When I have the need or Spenards is in the route and I need to kill time or buy tools, Sbs is always my choice.

I was sent here by the staff at Lowe’s and not having been here before, this store is great! Very helpful service and provided exactly what I needed at a lower price and friendly service. I will shop here first before going to big box stores and support local when I can. Glad I was sent here!

Purchased 4 windows to be shipped out, then after a week still no windows. Called and talked to the salesman on a Wednesday. he told me they were on the way to the airport. Two days later I call and he tells me they were building the crate. Hate getting lied to. Order canceled waiting for refund, hopefully wont have to wait on that.

I absolutely love this place! We worked with Carolyn over at Design Center who is absolutely amazing! Gotta give her props especially with having to deal with difficult customers like us ;)! We had everything picked out for our new kitchen remodel and the very next day changed the countertops >.< We were lucky we changed our minds before the contractor got out to the house to measure anything to proceed with SBS but Carolyn was very accommodating and able to make time for us to stop by and chat about things. So thankful SBS is here in Anchorage, they had everything we needed or knew who to send us to here in town in order for us to get exactly what we want.

Rude employees, good old boy vibe. Had to shop here as a contractor because my employer had an account here. Was often ignored at the contractor counter and paint counter. They are overpriced as other reviewers have stated. They are also no longer locally owned, and haven’t been for awhile.

Had no problems finding what I needed. Checking out was another matter. I was one of 2 people in the store I kept getting sent to another cashier. Dont check out on the paint guys side. they just sit around and pretend your not there.

I went to Dewalt days and met the rep. I bought a new weed whacker and they threw in a new battery. I signed up for the raffle and won the grand prize! Every time I have gone in, I have been helped and get great service. Thank you for making a positive difference in our community!

Their staff is very helpful and are knowledgeable about their products. I like that they have quality products such as marine grade lumber. They are also great for house paint and other large projects.

I called Saturday and asked for the salesman to return my call but he never did. The contractor counter sent me to the roofer manufacturer so I could give them all the measurements. Evidently that guy didn’t want to deal with it or do his job so he sent me running around town doing his job for him. Now I’m waiting for a quote from SB’s but no call yet. Guess I’ll have to call them or go down there again. I don’t think I’ll be dealing with SB’s again.

Ive never had a good experience at SBS. The Dewils cabinets for my new home were ordered through SBS in 2014, and the designer (Charles) was horrible at his job. He took forever to do anything, he ordered items that werent needed (trim and posts), and he was generally unpleasant to work with.I unfortunately just tried to deal with SBS again to order a few pieces of ASC metal roofing. The sales person I worked with never placed the order and never got back to me. I called and spoke to a manager who assured me that I would be contacted first thing the following morning by a sales person. I never heard anything. I called in a day later and they took down the info to place my order (again). I went in several days later to pick up my order and was told I needed to pick up from ASC. I also found out that only part of the order had ever been placed. They placed the rest of the order (again) and told me it would be ready in 2 days. I never got a call, so I just called back after 3 days and was told my sale person doesnt work today and that I should call tomorrow. The guy on the phone reluctantly told me he would try to look up my order and give me a call back. I wont hold my breath for that phone call...

They have alot of building materials, not a nick nack store like home depot; all the materials are very expensive compared to Lowes. They need a Price Match.
