Look, there is not enough characters to express the professionalism, knowledge, and saved my butt times with these guys. Great team over there. I’ve been to other places and shops for repairs. Some good some really bad however, Different Stokes is my fleets home for maintenance and service because they have done what no other shop has been able to do, give me confidence in my vehicles! Breakdowns repairs are and can be costly. Frustrations are easily put on your mechanics, but at different strokes I know I won’t spend twice as much to have it fixed again because I wanted to save 10 or 15% elsewhere. It will be done right the first time. Choose here first and save triple in the long run!!

I had great difficulty finding someone to work on our power stroke diesel driven class c camper. None of the automotive shops I called would work on it, either due to it being a: a camper, or b: a diesel.I finally got ahold of Different Strokes of Alaska and they kept interrupting my explanations with “we can schedule you in this week”!It took a few minutes for it to register with me that they were willing and able to help me despite all the reasons everybody else had to NOT help me.Along with all my Initial failed efforts to get the engine worked on by others, It was in limp mode and blowing black smoke, plus I was convinced the glow plugs needed replacing due to hard starting when cold. I had a multitude of speculative diagnoses built up like turbo failure or waste gate issues and so on, which I kept trying to explain to the service writer at Different Strokes, and I felt a bit put off by his repeated insistence that “yes, it could be that, but we will do our own thorough diagnostics testing and let you know what it REALLY is.” So I made my appointment.They clearly could have taken me to the cleaners and done all kinds of extra work based on my speculation and lack of knowledge... and I was expecting a bill totaling several thousand bucks and a weeks worth of work.however, they quickly called and advised me it was a simple relay that needed to be changed, and recommended an oil change which I gladly approved, the total bill was a fraction of what I expected! And it was done in a single day! AND, it completely fixed my problem!I can’t say enough about their integrity, quality, fairness of pricing, and expertise! Anchorage Powerstroke owners are so fortunate to have a business like this in their midst!

After having my time wasted at kendall ford kenai and a couple other places I made the drive to anchorage and they had it in and out the same day work was done correctly it has been my only good experience with a shop since moving up 2013 6.7 powerstroke kendall kept my truck over a month made a ton of excuses quoted work that wasnt even needed and never replaced my radiator in a month of having my truck different strokes did it is 6 hrs with a grill guard on front will return here for all work from now on even tho extra 3 hrs out of my way

I have a 2006 Ford F-350 diesel that at 90,000 miles began sucking collant into the engine and burning it at the rate of a gallon every 35 miles. The fix was an R&R Turbo clean and installation of a Bulletproof EGR Cooler, a new oil cooler, complete coolant flush, and oil pump install. Immediately I drove to Utah and returned pulling a 24 trailer loaded with 10,000 lbs. The truck performed flawlessly. Most diesels are driven on short runs which for my particular engine developed another issue of stretching the bolts requiring major work to replace and equally as expensive as the other work done. However, I was told that this was not an issue with my truck since I had driven it mostly on long hauls. I appreciate their honesty. Recently I have been needing the truck during the winter, so I had Different Strokes install an engine heat heater cord, oil pan heater, and transmission heater since living in Alaska is hard on diesel starts in sub temps. Again they were honest, telling me that the engine heater plug cord was there already. Each time the work was accomplished in a timely manner. I was also impressed with Alex, their female coordinator that handled my needs. On the last more simple visit, I sat in their waiting room where I overheard two hours worth of her communicating with mechanics and customers coming into the shop, discussing potential technical issues with vehicles in question. I am not knowledgeable in this field, but I could tell by the conversation that she knew her stuff and was confident, plus she is rather young. I asked her how she knew so much about such a field, and she said that the Boss that hired her 9 years earlier, had spent 8 years grooming her. I am extremely happy with the work done and the professional and friendly atmosphere.

This is the one stop shop for powerstroke diesel repair and upkeep. They are the best in the business. The price may be a bit higher than the other guys, but this is the only place that will give you perfect work and perfect service. A++

I had a great experience with Different Strokes compared to my experience with other repair places for my F350. I only had to wait a week to get an appointment, which compared to Kendall Fords 2 month wait is a bargain. My vehicle was immediately seen and diagnosed within an hour. Sadly they are not authorized to do warranty work, and I was informed that only the Ford dealerships can do this. Considering how efficiently they diagnosed my problem and how they actually cared about me paying out of pocket, It would be in Fords best interest to align with repair shops like this to handle their warranty work. If 2 months is your average lead time for appointments, it is clear that another solution is needed and allowing a shop like different strokes that diagnoses quickly and actually communicates to help with the workload seems reasonable. I will certainly go back to this shop for all my repairs or issues given the great experience I had with them initially.

This is my second EXCELLENT experience with Differnt Strokes! Two years ago, they quickly diagnosed and repaired a power loss problem which the local Ford dealer could not find (but charged me three thousand dollars for other problems he found). A few weeks ago the fan started working overtime causing power loss and excessive wear. Again, Different Strokes quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired it for me the next day because I was scheduled to haul a trailer to Kenai and needed the truck. These guys are Responsive, reliable, and TRUSTWORTHY. DONT take your Powerstroke to the Ford Dealer!

Was able to get me in quickly.These are the guys to go to for Ford Powerstroke Issues.Lost a star though for prices they charge for the parts they installed. They put a Boost Tube Elbow on and charged 100% over retail cost. So basically, they get it at wholesale and are jacking the price up 120-130%, not expected or understandable. Sorry, but my honest opinion. Had beige color floor mats, upon return, had a couple black footprints on them. At $125 hour Labor, you would expect little better attention to detail.

Best shop in anchorage, hands down. They were honest and upfront, they didn’t just do what we told them to but also looked the whole truck over and ended up saving us money by finding proper solutions to our issues rather than just replacing parts.

Ford diesel knowledge, accurate troubleshooting and integrity all combined makes one awesome shop! Alex takes customer service above and beyond! She has stayed hours after closing to get me parts I needed when my truck was down. More recently she assisted in the recovery of my stolen truck, even FaceTiming me after it was towed to their shop to let me see the condition. All my friends with Ford diesels go here too! Different Strokes is amazing, I had a truck(6.0) brought to them for a buyers inspection they saved me THOUSANDS of dollars! I didnt know the extent of repairs needed or cost related to those repairs on this truck. Well worth the $230!! The detail that they go into is well worth it, glad I didnt get stuck with a lemon of a vehicle. All thanks to Ron and his crew!!! I can not say enough good things about Different Stokes!!! We traveled the Alaska Highway from South Mississippi pulling our RV for our dream Alaskan vacation. We discovered a oil leak between the motor and transmission and were worried sick. We talked to a wonderful young lady at Different Strokes and make a long story short - they got us in for a quick look - and it was a stupid easy fix. After a quick look by the technician, we were good and on our way. If you have a Ford Diesel and need work done in Alaska use A Different Stroke- you will not be sorry!!!

Dont bring you truck to the shade tree mechanic. Bring it to Different Strokes and KNOW it got done right the first time. The team at Different Strokes live, breathe, and drive Ford powerstoke diesel engines and are fantastic to work with. I would absolutely recommend them. They fixed problems on my truck the cheap mechanics only made worse. I also really appreciate that they will take the time to explain the issue youre having so you know whats going on with your rig.

Great place to get your Ford diesel worked on

Ive used different strokes twice once for a blown HPOP and the second for when I tried to save money and had another shop mess up my rig. They are a little more expensive but you get quality work and Alex is easy to work with and flexible. If you own a powerstroke do yourself a favor and go to these guys they actually know what theyre doing unlike some of the places Ive looked at.

Im new to Anchorage from So Cal and after being here three weeks my truck died and I almost got stranded. I took my truck to them on multiple occasions. Each time I took my truck to them the bill came back at least 30% more than they quoted.The last time I took them my truck was to get front end repair. They had my truck looked at it and gave me a quote for all the parts and labor. I scheduled the repairs to be done a few weeks later. The morning I brought them my truck I asked if they were going to be able to get to it that day. I said if not I was going to keep the truck because I needed it for work. That was on a Tuesday. Everyday I called them and asked how it was going. They replied that they had torn the truck apart the first day and found a part that they needed and didnt have

Reason Im giving 3 stars is because Ive never personally used them. I call to see how much it would cost to have my cam shaft position sensor put in. I tell her what year and model of truck and she responds with we only work on power strokes. Well I guess those power jokes really are a joke. Because I dont see how you can make enough money off of one type of vehicle and it actually keep the doors open. The cam shaft position sensor is literally 1 bolt. As an entrepreneur myself I take any business I can get coming my way. If I push business away its because I cant keep up with the demands of people needing stuff built. But hey to each their own if you want to just channel out more business and push business away.

Different Strokes has done all the maintenance on my truck for the past 9 years. Theyve always been professional and reasonable.

Had someone bring in a truck for a buyers inspection...they were great on what they checked out, but they overcharged on the price. $230 for a buyers inspection is kind of high, I was thinking around $100 to $150 tops (is what I have seen to be the average price of an inspection)...I know diesels can be more expensive to maintain and work on, but REALLY? I probably will not be going back, even though they are knowledgable, seem to know their stuff, and saved me around several thousand in repairs (why it gets 3 stars instead of 2). I cant afford to smack down almost $250 for every truck I am looking at buying...pre-inspections are important, but they should also be reasonable.
