We called to find out if we could schedule an appt. for a tire change-over. The man on the phone replies no, its first come first server. There are tickets that you obtain when you arrive in order to get service that day. They open at 8am. My wife leaves the house early gets there at 7am and takes a ticket. She returns at 8am and then they simply take people that were waiting in line with no regards to the policy that was told to us over the phone. Totally disrespectful of our time and blatantly ignoring the policy that was described to us. If you are just gonna take walk-ins, say so, dont describe one thing and do another. You wont be getting any of our $$ and we will be happy to not recommend you to any of our friends either.

This place is awesome, and even that is not enough to praise how awesome they are. We had a unexpected flat tire always with the worst timing. We got ourselves collected and headed in there directions. When we got there, they stated they where booked but they can do an air check on the tire. Well the crew took one look at us and went into helping mode. Not only did they do an air check but they also fixed it and put it on for us. They truly are the best.

I had just got off of work and I got a flat tire. I fixed it myself with a plug and decided today was the day for new tires. I admit I didnt look all that clean having my work clothes on still. I may have looked like I was about to waste someones time... but little did they know I just got paid and I had $4,000 burning a hole in my pocket. I was ready to pay cash for a nice set of tires. Not one person greeted me or even acknowledged my presence. I walked around the store twice and I even sat down in a chair for a little bit. One of the technicians broke his back to look really busy, looked at me twice and dissapeared without a word. Mabe they have enough customers that they can afford to let people just walk out. Funny way to run a business. They get 1 star because I cant leave them 0 stars.

Somehow they found the last tire in the state and got it on. For me who dropped the truck off by wrecker the night before and didnt call just walked in. They were outstanding. Will use them till I quit driving.

Great service and the best tires in Anchorage!

Just had a great experience with American Tire & Auto. The tire pressure light was on for my moms car and she didnt listen to me that it was just the cold, -10 degree farenheit, weather. So they not only filled the tires with some air but they also did a check of the tires to verify that there was no puncture, causing a slow leak. We were on and out very quick, very cheap and very satisfied.

Called to have a set of tires installed. Told me to come on down. When I get there they tell me they cant install tires not bought at their shop. A) that could have been said when I called and B) the counter guy was pretty short about it. Normally not a big deal but I had just watched him be a jerk to the guy in front of me. Wasnt a regular here to begin with but wont be back either. Alaska Tire +++

I never have to worry about winter in Alaska. I drop off my vehicles for my winter tire change over. It is done quickly, professionally, and I love all the good folks that work there. Would never go anywhere else. Winter, summer, spring or fall.

I can say that both American Tire locations in Anchorage are awesome and customer service is outstanding, but this one takes the cake for being open on Saturdays. They offer a great brand selection of tires and pricing seems to be decent and competitive to the market in the City.

Unfriendly staff in person and on the phone. When someone gave me a call to let me know my vehicle was done, I asked if I could pay over the phone (had someone picking up the vehicle on my behalf) and he asked me, with a condescending tone, why and just told me to pay in person when picking up the vehicle. I shouldn’t need to explain that someone else would be picking up my vehicle to receive, at minimum, decent customer service. Although the unfriendly interaction, I give them kudos for dealing with a busy season.

Great place! Great workers who care about people in the community! I had an appointment with another tire place and they didnt schedule my appointment properly. I had came in from Wasilla with my winter tires to be that were to be put on. I also had wires protruding on one tire. It ended up going flat, like I thought may happen, while in Anchorage after the other tire company wouldnt see me even after they realized they messed up the scheduling. I went to American Tires and even though they were slammed and booked up for a few days, as it had just snowed, they decided to put my tires on without an appointment because they were concerned for my daughters and my safety. They had me in and out in under 30mins! I will always go back to them for my tire needs!!

This place is a joke! I called to get 4 brand new Mickey Thompson tires mounted and balanced, and Kevin at customer service tried to guilt tripped me for not purchasing my tires threw them, and how I don’t support local businesses (as I’m literally trying to give them my business). then he proceeded to tell me that they cannot mount/balance my BRAND NEW tires because they were not purchased threw them. I’ll never bring my business to these guys and I’ll be sure to spread the word. Horrible customer service

Very good quick experience with nothing more than an oil change and what I thought would be a new headlight. But, it turned out to be a wiring issue which was easily fixed by them. Nice touch. I purchased brand new tires at a different place and they refused to install them because I did not buy new tires from them. Oh well guess they don’t want money.

Bought some blizzacks and in two weeks got a flat. No customer service basically had to buy another overpriced tire and had to deal with their bad attitudes about the Bridgestone warranty. Took two weeks and four calls for them to contact Bridgestone. Oh and then they charged me to put the new tire on as well.

Got one tire (that I bought from somewhere else) swapped, balanced, and rotated. $32.50Friendly staff. Good spot.

Great experience both times I have been in. They beat the prices quotes I had received from other shops. The staff seemed knowledgeable and eager to help find the best wheels and tires for me. Would recommend.

Ive used them nearly a dozen times or so for various work trucks but I typically use GCR or Alaska Tire. American Tire and Auto has mediocre customer service of the front desk staff at best and can be quite rude. The completed work has always been performed well however.

Called twice on back to back days just to ask if they restudded winter tires. First day I gave up after being on hold for 12 minutes, second day I finally talked to someone after 10 minutes just to hear that they dont restud tires. Everywhere else Ive called I didnt have to hold for more than a minute or two...

Good service. Do what is needed for you. There was no wheels for my car. They let me pick out online Aluminium kinda fancy looking wheels. My skills are definitely not picking out the right looking wheels for a car. Would have been better I think if they would have picked them for me. Or lesson that I learned. Let the people at American tire that our doing it all the time pick out wheels to match car

I went in with a general idea of what I wanted to do and with the help of Kevin and crew I was able to pick out the tires and rims that best fit the lift that I had them do. Super knowledge and honest staff, very happy with the way everything turned out. I recommend them highly and would/will have their work again. Thanks guys!

I arrived just after 12 noon ready to spend $1400 on 6 tires and installation but with a time limit. Staff assured me before driving an hour that they could easily get it done before 3. Half hour later she said we cant get you in and finish by 3. Thanks for wasting my time I will pay $100 more and go ti Diversified Tire.

I was recommended to use American Tire by some friends from work, I am totally glad they did. I requested an online quote for the service I wanted performed and received a phone call shortly afterwards asking some more questions. I then received a quote which I reviewed and did some research on to make sure it was fairly priced, which it was!When I went in that same day to actually talk to the technician in person, he went over the pricing in more depth and showed me the products I had chosen. He then sent me home because he wanted me to think about it since I was going to be spending a lot of money. I really liked that, since he was not pressuring me into the sale. I went back in the next day to put my deposit down since they had to order a couple of things. It then took a couple weeks for the parts to get in.Once all the work was done I was extremely satisfied. The lift, new wheels & new tires on my Jeep looked great! I have been driving it for about a week now & I am 100% satisfied. A special thanks to Kevin at that shop, he did a great job from the first phone call to the point when I picked my baby up!

No one want to work there. Standing around shooting the bull an playing bean bag toss . was there three days in row an did not have time to give estimate on front end. Went to another auto shop an in an out in 45 min. American tire is a joke. Wanted 280 for a tire I got ease ware for 209. Dont waste your time at American tire.

I bought 4 sets of winter tires and had them installed on my car. The big tall guy at the front desk told me it would be 4 hours to get them installed. I told him I would wait. After 4 hours I asked him if my car is done. He said they are still working on my car. I looked outside to check my car and they are just pulling it in the hanger bay. Thats the first and last time I have been to this place. The customer service really stinks!

If you want no nonsense help then go see these guys. They very helpful and will answer all you questions. Just don’t expect a hug they are straight forward with their advice. I just moved from Oklahoma and they helped me get ntores for winter. I will be back there in the future.

Bought tires during a special they had but waited to get them mounted, brought new tires and vehicle in at 10:30 in the morning was told would be 2-2 1/2 hours. Thats fine figured it would be, well five hours later and several phone calls I am able to get my vehicle back with tires mounted on it. Needless to say I wont ever come here or recommend to anyone. How this is a tire shop and moves this slow I dont know, I worked in a tire shop before and we had a mandatory 30-45 minute maximum tire change time. Only reason I didnt give a 1 star is because of the good deal I got on the tires!!

I was told that It wouldnt be that long of a wait to get a flat fixed (I ran over a screw). It has been two hours and Im still waiting. Wont be making the mistake of coming here again. Maybe next time be just slightly more honest about how long you take to complete a job!

So I guess a tire shop will not mount and balance brand new wheels and tires. That’s the first I’ve ever heard of that in this planet. Kevin there was extremely rude about it over the phone. He could of politely explained the process that they do but instead said I’m not mounting wheels and tires that were bought from the internet. Even though I’m pretty sure they order wheels and tires off the internet. I will be sure to tell everyone about there so called process. Fantastic customer service!!!

Ive visited American tire 3 times - and every time Ive been extremely impressed with their honesty, as well as their service. The first 2 times I had a flat tire, and they patched it without trying to sell me a new tire. Finally, after owning my car for 2 years (and buying from a shady seller) I figured I needed new tires, so I went in to get new ones put on (for about $700), but after checking my car, the worker (Anthony) came in and told me my tires looked excellent and I didnt need new ones, then sent me away at no charge. They couldve easily made BANK off of me by now, but theyve been up-front and honest about everything. Im extremely impressed, and Id recommend them to anyone.

I want to say thank you to the guys at American Tire for taking care of my car quickly and for the fantastic customer service. My front end alignment was way off and they did a fine job getting me going straight down the road again. I have an older vehicle and they took the time to point out some issues I may have in the future without pressuring me into getting unnecessary repairs done immediately. They worked while I waited with my two children, ages 7 and 1, and the job was completed before the kids had time to get unruly.Nicely done fellas. Thanks again.

Would not touch my tires because I didnt originally buy them there. Was asked Would you bring a steak to Sullivans and ask them to cook it for you too? in a fairly condescending tone. They act like they have the best prices in town (they didnt for me).Anchorage doesnt need more businesses with the pretentiousness of fancy restaurants. Youre a tire shop. I should be able to pay you to work on my tires. I just went somewhere more reasonable.

Worst experience of my life. Brandon told me would take two hours max for my tires and I was the first one there, first come first serve they said. It not only took four hours. Not even 24 hours my tires pressure light came on. I called them back and immediately the woman on the said that they could reset my sensors. Why would you even say that you don’t know if that’s the problem or not. So I ask her if the tire is faulty if they are going to replace it and she said no it’s most likely you ran over a nail. At this point I’ve checked all my tires for nails and there is no nail. All my tires are dry rotted and not holding air ALL OF THEM. I called back and Brandon answered again. He tried to argue with me they wouldn’t replace them and that they were fine when he put them on. Nooooo they don’t just dry rot in a couple days bud and i was left stranded on the side of the road and 2 hours late to my new job of a month now. He continued to talk to me like a stupid little girl saying they wouldn’t replace them. I came in asked for the manager and told him what was and had happen and and brought in the tire that was on rim. He saw they were dry rotted and looked for a nail. Me and two of my roommates looked at all my tires before coming no nails the manager looked at the tire before taking my car back no nail. He take a my car back and come out front again all the sudden there’s a nail. The nail wasn’t even pushed into the tire like it drove on and he came out sayin well I didn’t just put it in and that he would still replace my tires. There customer service is beyond rude. They take advantage of girls and other customers. The service is awful and they rip you off. If I could talk to everyone walkin in there and tell them to go anywhere else I would. Save yourself the money and stress and go somewhere else!

Good and complete service. They work as rapidly as they can in the spring and fall change over rushes but do be cautious of loose items in your car as they may come up missing when your service is completed.

Ive been using them for my tires for a decade. They can be really slow during the first and last snowfall, but then again, so is everyone. They do a good job, especially with our expensive wheels, havent noticed any scratches from tire change overs. Even during the busy season if you are one of the first 2 or 3 through the door when they open, they can get you out in a reasonable time.

They are fair, knowledgeable, and pretty energetic. Prices are also among the best in Anchorage. Of course, if you are after a particular brand, nobody carries everything. Ill keep going back.

Told me it would take 30 min to change my tires, ended up taking 3 hours. Staff was aimlessly wandering around, taking their time. At one point we asked if it was almost done. They acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. Upon realizing what I was talking about, the guy randomly told us 20 more minutes. Ruined our plans in Anchorage.

Went there and purchased A tire on a tuesday. After a few minutes, they told me that 2 of my old ones are flat and needs to be replaced, so i did. Waited roughly 2 hours to ask for update just to find out one of the wheels was broken yet again!! And so i waited.. waited ANOTHER hour just to find out it can’t be replaced and had to wait thursday to get it fixed. Well, thats about 3hrs of my time WASTED for nothing!! Thanks for your great service!! Never will I be back here. You guys need to learn how to update your customers constantly!

These people are extremely rude. I had to go there 3 different times during my busy work schedule to get my car. It was never ready when they said and then it wasnt done right so I had to bring it back. I cannot believe how rude these people are. They acted like it was my fault that my car still shimmied after an alignment and that I was a bother for bringing it back. Steer clear of this company who only hires rude people to work their front desk.

What is up with not working on tires that werent bought from American TIre. I have a 20 year old daughter that researched the best tire prices around Anchorage, AK. Purchased the tires and drove home. The next day she waited in line to get her tires swapped for 1.5 hrs at American Tire. When she approched the counter the guy asked her what she needed. She said I have 4 new studded winter tires that I need installed. He asked her did you buy them from us. She said No. He said we cant install tires that werent puchased from American Tire. I am very disgusted with this and would not recommend AMERICAN TIRE, or Alaska Tire.Thanks

Much better than many local shops (ie Johnsons Tire...steer clear, they are hacks) from a technical service standpoint. They also carry a higher quality product in general. The customer service is not bad but is a bit inconsistent (depends on which service agent you talk to). Will definitely go back (and will never go to johnsons again).

Needed a rush tire change job, they had a space and had me back on the road in 30min. Great job.

I was talked into buying a set of tires for my ford explorer because I had a tire in the front that was bad.... I just knew I was airing it up daily well my boss got concerned and sent me to American Tire off of Old Seward Highway and they talked me into buying a set of 4 tires which were used cuz I couldnt afford the real expensive ones ...driving down the road is basically like an obstacle course I have to hold onto the steering wheel real steady because if not the tires dragged me into the next Lane this is happened numerous times and Ive called them when it first happened and Richie acted like he didnt even want to deal with it like he was like well what do you expect theyre used tire and thats not the answer that you want to hear after you paid $222.50 for some tires thats about to kill you on the road well i askedto speak toa manager because i wanted to return them.... his response was the manager wont be in until Monday I said OK guess Ill see you Monday and ended the conversation... Phone Rung And By Now I Am Heated then when he did say hed accept the tires back hes like well you still have to pay for the installation fee but why would I have to pay for installation of some raggedy tire that you got me that got me going all over the road well needless to say Ive struggled trying to find another comprable tire to the three that I kept from before and I couldnt find one so Im still driving around on these raggedy tires that have me jerking all over the road and you should have seen it when it snowed I mean Ive only had these tires probably for like 3 weeks if that and theyre really scary.... Totally disappointed in this service not only did Richie SUCK in customer service.... the tires they sold are deadly.... Worst experience ever. I sent my girlfriend there after being quoted $782 for a set of new tires for her moms car. The first gentleman she talked to was super nice and helpful. Our problem is with the manager. The employee had to ask whatever dickheaded manager was working on 07-02-2014, and he started off rude from the beginning. Talked to my girlfriend like she didnt know what she was doing. Told her that he doesnt sell our tires in the brand THEY quoted us for. He quoted her $911 for whatever he felt like ripping her off for, didnt have her sign a work order to have the tires put on, then made her pay $949 when she came to pick it up stating that she heard him wrong. My girl doesnt Hear people wrong when it comes to having to spend almost $1000.I dont mind spending the $1000. I dont mind being quoted the wrong amount two different times. I can even get past a shop taking my car without having a work order signed first. My whole problem with this place is that a rude, disrepectful, and clearly sexist pig is the guy who runs the place. I now have to contact their corporate office to complain because I dont want tires that they sell on a car when Im paying for them. It comes down to simple trust. I cant trust a man who treats people the way that guy did. I cant trust a man who takes someones car without having them sign something that tells them what is going to be done to it. So if I cant trust he guy who runs the place, how can I trust his workmanship?In the end, I know tires. I know shops are bound to certain sizes. I know that being a tire guy can be super frustrating when dealing with know-it-alls. And being a manager of all that can take its toll, but this guy takes the cake. Dont be a manager if you cannot handle it.
