The ONLY auction company in Anchorage I trust to sell for me! Ive done business with them all, and Duane’s is by far the best. If you’re looking to buy or sell, stop here first! The auctions are consistently good and the folks are easy to deal with. With the decades of experience they have, they’ll work best for you. It’s hard to find a well-run, decent, and honest auction, and I’d say this is the ONLY one in all of Anchorage. On a personal note, I’ve bought and sold many items with Duane’s over the years, and will continue to do so. They’re responsible and adult in their dealings. I appreciate a business that is run this way. In my dealings with the other auction house in Anchorage, it is run with a childish attitude of “we are always right, and we will ban you if you disagree”. I won’t do business with them any longer, and that bad experience has given me more of an appreciation for Duane’s. There’s a reason Duane’s has been around for so long - give your business to him and you’ll be in good hands! Experience and maturity are truly priceless in this line of work!- A. Blanks
This is my favorite auction house in Alaska! Every employee tries their best to help you whenever you are there. Some of the other houses in town almost seem to take pleasure in making you jump through hoops to pick up your auction winnings, but Alaska auctions makes you feel welcome and appreciated as a customer. That’s why I’ve been a customer for 25 years and will continue to participate in their auctions in the future.
I definitely would not go by their descriptions of items. I was disgusted after I picked up a ring (Costume jewelry) to find it was marked Made in China! I threw it in the garbage. Never again. Bidders beware. They should disclose that on their descriptions. I looked on the site and did not see a customer contact email address so I’m writing a review.
The most knowledgeable people in Alaska. They know more about Antiques & Auctions than any person I have ever met. I have bought vehicles from them and many other beautiful items that are Alaskan and Unique.I highly recommend everyone work with them instead of any other company in Alaska. They are ready to serve you even during COVID.
Been going to auctions over 40yrs. Now with the internet you can attend far away auctions. Alaska auction co has unusual items i cant find anywhere else. Wonderful selection, super quick ship, & easy to work with. Thanks so much.
The co-owner says she only needs one yellow star.
I have had a bad experience with other auction companys not shipping items. Therefore, I personally contact the company, so that I have one invoice to pay for, shipping and the item. Hibid only gives you the option to send email. My auction ended on 26 June, a invoice was sent to my email for which I responded back, advising that I needed these items shipped and please send one invoice. No response. I did received a phone call while I was in class. Not able to answer the call. I do not allow auctioneers to just charge my CC without know the exact amount to be charged. I followed up with an email from Hibid, which I still have all contact information via, phone bills and emails. I finally found a number to call. Called and was granted with the rudest individual, however, with my persistence questioning of where the items are, she finally found out that since my card did not go through and I supposedly did not respond to their phone call, NOT TRUE, the items went back up for auction and I was advised that the owner stated I will have to have a $100 deposit in order to participate in any more auctions. NOPE, sorry, I do not give out a deposit for items that do not even reach that amount. So I just left it alone, until recently when I tried to participate in another auctioneers auction to only find out that Alaska Auction Co. had waited 4 months later put a banned on my Hibid account with a no pay. I contacted the company to find out why this was put into place and the response I got was, you purchased items from us, the cc was declined and you have not responded back until yesterday. Absolute lie!. After, reading the reviews here, THIS IS WHY I DO NOT LEAVE A DEPOSIT OR I CONTACT THE AUCTIONEER TO GET AN EXACT AMOUNT THAT WILL BE CHARGED. Completely absurd and RUDE as hell. I still tried to resolve the issue and the girl told me that this was too much back and forth and I was costing her time and money. Let me just tell you something, your rudeness cost yourself time and money. It does not pay to be rude and have no customer service.
In the past 20 years that I have had the pleasure of dealing with Alaska Auction being in both the personal liquidation as well as professional level for my clients, I have found that the trust and integrity of Duane is of the highest level. This is the only auction house that we use or refer to. I can only give them the highest praise and recommendation. We are so fortunate to have such a firm of this level to facilitate our needs. Keep up the outstanding work.
Even though all of the emails say you can pick it up by Monday they will automatically ship things without telling you. I went to pick it up and they tried to charge me 6x what I was supposed to pay. They said it was in the terms and conditions, but the only terms that you have to agree to say Should your bid for a lot prove successful, the auctioneer may contact you to arrange for payment & shipping (if applicable). I was not contacted, just charged 6x as much. I will be following up with my CC company and BBB.
I was able to buy my wife some beautiful jewelry, that they shipped discreetly for me so I could surprise her for our anniversary. Great customer service and prices!
Bid and won items. Went to pickup and they couldn’t find some of the items.NOTE: They found a item I won and hand delivered it. Good job. I’ll give them a second chance. Thank you.
Really cool items. Bidding can go high sometimes, but thats how auctions work. Ive been pleased with everything I won. Be prepared to have fun!
Terrible customer service. Family business gone bad. Dont buy from here anymore. Youll be disappointed. Isnt what it used to be. Incredibly sad to see. Family business, no one to fix things. Buy elsewhere
Absolutely rudest and incompassionate customer service I have ever incountered. Great items but I don’t not suggest bidding if you are using a credit card, you will be charge a 17.50% buyers premium for just using a credit card. As well as shipping and a $20 handling charge just for putting it in a box. They charged my card for an invoice and never sent the items for a month or more still haven’t received. Phones never work when you try to contact them.
I have consigned so many items to this auction house and every time they are so helpful. I have to admit, they have such good items up for auction that I usually end up spending more then I sell 🙃
I bought a whole bunch of stuff and everyone was nice and helpful. After talking to a gentleman about a gun I purchased he offered me a box of ammo and when I asked how much, he said it was a gift!Apparently he was the owner of the place.
Great service, always accommodating and friendlier then they have ever been.
We used to go with these guys all the time. But they charge way more than other auction houses (almost 20%) on top of what you bid. In addition they generally start the bidding at high prices (typically the value of the item) so whatever you buy is overpaid for by the time bidding is done. We also bought some scrimshaw that they marked on with a red sharpie which will not come off of bone, rendering the pieces worthless. We will no longer look at their auctions. A couple more recent auction houses have much lower fees and start bidding a $1 or $5 so you have a chance of getting a deal. Go elsewhere.
Great inventory of Alaskan artifacts and ivory carvings. Its always fun to see what unique items are in each auction.
One of my favorite auction houses I have been to
Love the auction. I have been trying he lucky bidder on several firearms and it was a great idea xperience.
Great company, very large selection of collectables and scrimshaw, and friendly service. Plan to spend a lot of time exploring everything!
The rare and u usual. Pay the price you want to pay. Closely follow the terms of the sale.
-Positive experience:It was a real life auction. Fun auctioneer, fun bid takers. Audience is kind of typical. Cool stuff in there.Negative experience:The front counter lady was inexcusably rude, it blew my mind. She was upset from the start because I waited until the end of the auction to retrieve my items (because I won several bids and wanted some of the last items at auction). She also gave me attitude because I wanted to pay with credit card instead of cash. Then on top of that, she yelled at me for asking for a receipt.Tips:Ill share a auction tip that I just learned yesterday. Auctions are incredibly impartial to prebidding. If an item has a prebid opening of $100 and nobody bids, they will start the auction off at $10, I even witnessed $5. Go to the auction live before you bid online, meet the people youre going to give your money to. Also staff will bid on items to jack up prices, I was there until the end and did not witness them actually retrieving items that they won. Their own rules state that this is not allowed but they do it themselves.Additional ratings:Auctioneer rating - 5/5Boss lady rating - 5/5Staff average - 3/5Reason for 1/5. I spent way too much money to be treated the way I was treated. I almost feel it was racial.
I was scamed by them and lost a Lot of money using them I would caution you to use them
Absolutely ridiculous buyers premium. Alaska Auction has a 17.5% buyers premium when Christies Auction (world renowned) has a 10% buyers premium.
Was good place
Great company, great experience!
