I was referred to Gary at Motorworks, after the motor in my 2014 Hyundai Tucson died. After discussing my options with Gary, and since I wanted to keep the car, I decided it made the most sense to re-build the engine and repair the air conditioning, which was not working properly before the issue with the engine.Motorworks completed the work quickly and as per the quote that Gary & I agreed to. Gary also made some adjustments, after the initial engine re-build/AC repair that I really appreciate.I highly recommend Motorworks. Thank you so much Gary & staff.

Motor Works Center was a referral from a tradesman I previously encountered who knew my expectations of honesty and reliability of workmanship. Doug and his crew replaced my well maintained but worthily used 2004 Ram 2500 truck engine, which to this day, 9 months later has performed excellently. Doug knew I wanted to keep my truck for an extended time, his suggestion to change out many of my original and other worn out parts that had to be re-installed anyway was a great idea. Sure there was an up-charge price difference for the new parts and I expected that- but if those parts failed along the way- far more expensive it would be to repair or replace. Now I drive with confidence, worry free short and more importantly long distances knowing vital parts are new and reliable.I would recommend and bring family and friends to Motor Works with the confidence that quality work would be done but as importantly, they would be treated with the respect that give all a piece of mind.

Brought my car into Motorworks since my mechanic recommended them.I needed a water pump, new thermostat and hose replacements. Although I cant fault them for late and wrong parts they claim they were delivered, The car was there for 2 and a half days. Was this a case of BS or truth? They were very professional and when the car was near ready they discovered the Alternator was overheating and required replacement. The got the part within the same day and was able to pickup the car. The price price was steep, but then again welcome to NY and they to have bills to meet. The car has been running fine ever since except for a heater hose dripping which was not their fault since it is berried under the manifold and was an original hose. SO in all fairness to Motorworks I feel they are competent reasonable and would use them for any future Engine work my regular shop does not do!

Motorworks was fantastic. I worked with the team over the phone, had my vehicle delivered having never met the anyone at the shop, and the work completed in a timely fashion. They kept me abreast of the work and any issues that arose. When I decided to replace the A/C lines in my 25 year old vehicle, they helped me source the right part to get my car back on the road. This shop 100% puts the customer first, does amazing work, and left me really happy. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to replace an engine.

Great experience with Motorworks. I had to replace the 5.7 engine in my 2011 Ram after experiencing major damage caused by lifter failure inherent in this generation of the engine. I found the folks there very knowledgeable and they even made a couple of recommendations on replacing some engine components as preventive maintenance against end of life failure. Install was about one week and the engine ran great when I picked up the truck. Few if any places around anymore that specialize in engine replacement. I would recommend giving Motorworks a call if youre in the market for a new engine.

Motorworks did a great job on my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Doug and Gary were very helpful and explained everything before starting work. I even got a tour of the shop. They were up front about the time it would take, and possible added costs for that could come up during the replacement of my 4.0 6cyl motor and clutch. When I had a minor issue one month later, they made the repair without a fuss. This is a great shop! Thanks again guys.

I’m at a COMPLETE LOSS for words as to why ANYONE ON THIS PLANET would have had a bad experience with these guys. The staff is both extremely knowledgeable and experienced while both Gary and Doug are easily the most professional and honest duo I’ve ever experienced when it comes to anyone who’s ever worked on my car. And I’ve had quite a few houses work on it.I commissioned Motorworks to rebuild the engine on my car and we discussed everything up-front to avoid any confusion later. I knew what my issues were from the get go (low to zero compression in all 8 cylinders) and brought my car in just before it died. We discussed the project in detail in advance such that when they finally picked up the car, I didn’t even need to go to the shop.As is the case with this type of work, unforeseen issues did come up both in the middle of the build as well as upon completion. Both the owner and mechanic were very professional and fair in dealing with these issues. Faisal personally worked on my car and was a dream to get to know. I would even go as far as saying that it was an honor to have such a dedicated and committed mechanic work on my car, so much so that I will probably request him for any future work on any similar projects (classic car). I would also not hesitate to bring any of my other cars to Motorworks should I ever need an engine rebuild.I also interacted with other staff members and everyone was extremely professional, courteous, and respectful. Everyone from the guys who moved my car into the bay to the guys who did the oil changes was an absolute pleasure. I know all this because my car has a built-in DVR and I finally got a free moment to review all the recordings captured anytime the engine was running (pre- and post-build).I think what helped me the most (and what could help anyone else reading this in the future) is knowing exactly what you want from this team when you bring your car in. If you know what the problem with your car is, let them know and have them work on that. Then review them on just that - what you asked them to do and what they did. If you dont know for sure what your issues are, be up-front and let them know before hand. That way, both you and they will be very clear on what the scope of the job at hand is and if any unrelated issues do crop up, it will be very clear to everyone that these additional issues would be out of the original scope. You cannot ask someone to give you something and then blame them for something unrelated that is also broken that you didnt know about (and therefore didnt disclose) or have them fix. Fair is fair.To that end, I would HIGHLY recommend Motorworks in a heartbeat and with zero hesitation. Having my engine rebuilt by Motorworks exceeded my expectations and I’m glad I didn’t go the “crate engine” route. Car still runs smoothly to this day, more than 8k miles later!!!

I was referred to Motorworks by a family member because my car was turning off while driving. I was told that I need a new engine by a mechanic (not a motorworks mechanic). I called Motorworks and told them I need a new engine. Without diagnosing the car, Motorworks gave my car a new engine. It took about 3 weeks or so to finish the job. I picked up the car and it ran fine for a week or so. My car started to turn off again after the 2 weeks. I brought the car back to Motorworks and explained that it was having the same issue. They now said it was an oil leak in the engine and also a sensor issue. They fixed the car again (I was charged for this job), and gave my car back. The same day I received the car, it turned off again. I called Motorworks to tell them what was going on. They wanted to charge me again for an issue that was not fixed from the beginning. Also, when I spoke to them over the phone they named another false issue with my car. It seems like they were playing the guessing game and charging me for it. After that call, I never heard from anyone at Motorworks again. I ended up taking my car to a dealership and then to the dealership that I bought the car from and they both identified the problem right away just from driving the car. Even though Motorworks employees are very kind and confident in their work, the service I received on my car was not efficient and very expensive to not have fixed the issue.

I have a 2012 Ford Escape Limited wife driven vehicle. To and from work 3 miles round trip. Vehicle has 15,950 miles and developed a knock. Not under Fords warranty. Ford said in a nut shell, Too bad you are not covered All 7 of my oil changes and tire rotations were done by Levittown Ford. Oil was changed once a year every 2,ooo miles. Went to Motorworks. Gary and the crew said motor died. They installed the exact same motor and it actually runs better than the original motor. The motor he got me had less miles than my original one. Gary told me to drop off the car on a certain day and he started working on as he said, and a few days later he called come get your vehicle. The motor he gave me looks brand new and runs 100 % great. He said i will be very happy. I cant imagine how an awful situation turned out so good. I have been driving the car with the new engine and it seems like we are getting 28 mpg on the highway, when before 23 mpg. Anyone who has concerns about a motor needing replacing, go see these owners in person. Everyone i speak to, says yes Motorworks are the best, and have been around for a lot of years. My truck was making loud tapping sound so I dropped off the truck at Motorworks (30 min drive from my apt). They told me to drop it off the night before so that when they could cold start it in the morning. The next day, I dont hear from them so I call a few hours before they closed and they told me that the truck is fine and its nothing to worry about because it just sounds like a minor exhaust leak. They didnt charge me. A few months later I started getting misfires while under load and then a breakdown. After going to two different mechanics 3 times we finally diagnosed the problem as coil failure. We replaced the coils and then not only did that cure the misfires but also cured the loud tapping sound. I dont even think that my truck was ever properly diagnosed by Motorworks. I have a feeling that they just didnt want to bother working on it. How my problem could be confused with exhaust leak, I have no idea. These guys are supposed to be the best around but I feel as I didnt matter as a customer so I would would not go back again.

My wife and I could not be happier. So glad we chose Motorworks in Amityville. We have a Chevrolet Trailblazer that we had bought new in 2005. After just over 110,000 miles it started to make really bad banging noises from the engine. We spent a while researching whether to replace the truck or the engine. A couple of our friends told us they used Motorworks so we called, got a great price and had them do the job.The only very minor complaint is that It took them a few days more than they estimated but it was well worth it. It runs like new again and we are now going to give it to our daughter. So glad we didnt take out a loan for a new truck, this was so much smarter. Will definitely spread the good word.

I need to write a review now just because i can hardly contain myself!! I have never in my life been treated so kindly by a shop before! After being turned down by at least 6-8 shops for my Subaru. Gary took me in and wasnt afraid of my car!. He took the time to explain his business and what they do, he took the time to talk with me weighing ALL my options. Usually a shop just wants your money but they actually create a customer relationship which is so great! Now to my car (which i havent even gotten back yet) I brought it down and he got it in in a very timely manner, he did the compression test to confirm my engine was shot. I ended up not getting a reman for my own financial reasons but i was able to get my own engine and have it shipped to him NO PROBLEM!!!! I was told at first he was a little busy hed get it in next week, which okay completely understandable! BUT he worked me in so much sooner and called to explain everything that was going on to keep me updated and everything. so far best experience Ive had with a shop. I will update review once i get the car back Monday!! Thank you to everyone at Motorworks!!!** UPDATE **So after having my car back a week now i can say WUHOO!!! I have a 2007 Dodge Charger with the notorious 2.7L V6 engine. Issue was intermittent engine stalling at highway speeds with no rhyme or reason to cause. After haggling with my personal mechanic who stated, low engine oil pressure/engine sludge build-up/not worth fixing routine, I took the car into Motorworks. Not only did Doug sympathize with the fact that car has 190,000 miles logged, he assigned his best mechanic to diagnose. Long story, short, Issue was bad fuel regulator and pump. Utterly professional service and a follow up phone call inquiring about results. So far so good with repair. Highly recommend Motorworks for under the hood work. Great mechanics and great service.

To Long; Wont Read Version: Gary and his guys are very nice and professional, and they know their stuff. But when I brought my Mini in to have the motor replaced, I was more or less shooed away when I brought up issues with the repairs being done. Twice. Which cost me time and money getting my car fixed. The full story: Blew the motor on my 2011 Mini Cooper S, my regular mechanic gave my Motorworks number. Was quoted roughly $5500-5800 and 1 1/2 weeks. Probably adding to the complications somewhat was the fact my car is modified (exhaust, intake, ECU tune, ect.). I verbally and in email told them that from research I did on my own previously the 2013 motor they planned on putting in my car would not be 100% compatible due to a change in the head and fuel pump design between 2011 and 2013. I was assured they it would work. Well, 2 weeks later, turns out I was right. Totally incompatible. We agreed to reuse the head from my old motor so the old fuel pump would work, as using a new head and fuel pump required changing out the wiring harness and ECU. Also in this we found the cause of the engine blowing, a failure of my original fuel pump, another $1100 added to the bill (thanks BMW!). They also took care of a couple of other small parts and the clutch. Out the door for $8500, but almost double the quoted timeframe at just under 3 weeks. Luckily I wasnt in school yet and I work fairly close to my house, so not having a car was not a huge inconvenience. Finally I get my car back. Well, not even before I made it home 30 miles away I got a check engine light, and the car does not start properly after the light comes on. I bring it back, stating again in email and in person that some research on my part points to fouled VANOS solenoids. After a little over half a week of diagnosing, Gary tells me they cant figure out the issue, theyre losing money on the repair at this point, and that I should pick up my car. They reset the timing 3 times and still get the same engine code, P1338: Camshaft Position Sensor Error. I was told that my issue wasnt related to hardware and was likely a software issue. They did, however, waive the labor fees even though I was told the repair wasnt warrantied due to my cars modifications.I decided to cut my losses and bring my car right to Habberstad BMW to get a proper diagnosis. $1300 and 5 days later, I was told my issue was due to failed VANOS solenoids, exactly what I had stated when I dropped it off the second time. The kicker is that I was told those were checked/serviced at Motorworks. All in all, I work in repairs myself. I understand that my car is a bit niche and difficult to work on. But I was shot down with useful information I got from Mini enthusiasts/professionals twice and I was cost because of it, whether it be time, money, or both. Gary could not have been nicer or more professional throughout the whole process and I understand at some point you have to cut your losses, but overall I wish I could give 2.5 stars.

I decided after alot of research to go with a remanufactured engine for my 2003 suburban. The people at Motorworks were great. They were very informative, professional, and polite. The work was outstanding and Ive had the truck back for a month and it runs beautifully. During the process because of my work situation my wife did alot of the back and forth, she is no car enthusiast, but they explained things so that they were easily understood. Things that had been a problem for years were also corrected. When I asked how they solved the problems instead of pointing blame at previous mechanics they politely respond that with the engine out you could see and do things that would be otherwise hard to find. Under the hood looks brand new, did they sand blast the exhaust manifold ?, it looks like it. I could not be happier and highly recommend Motorworks Engine Center in Amityville. Todd Campbell

Blew my engine over memorial day weekend going to bayshore for a bbq. since I was out on the island I picked motor works since they had a few good reviews on Google and I figured rebuilt would-be better than an engine replacement. I contacted motor works through their website let them know I dropped from 5th to 2nd on an offramp, car still ran and was misfiring on all cylinders they told me to bring it by for them to look at but itll take a week because they were backed up. I asked if they could give me a worst case scenario estimate over the phone they refused. I drove the car in at night and left the keys at the drop off. They called me back a week later stating they got the car running and HEARD a piston knock and I should replace the engine at the cost of 2600 for everything, I agreed and they sent me a bill over email which I posted to the photos above. Upon checking the email the total was 2900 I started looking for other shops since that price can get me a full type r swap with a 6 speed transmission for my base model rsx 5 speed. Upon calling other shops I was quoted 1200 650 for labour 6.5 hours 550 for engine. According to motor works pricing of 1795 for labour it breaks down to SIXTEEN HOURS for an engine swap. Needless to say I went with the other shop. I went to pick up my car and they charged me 235 for a diagnostic fee I asked what was done they told me they did a compression test. Why they did a compression test for an engine thats already blown is beyond me. Cost of compression test at my local generic chain auto centers 80-100 dollars. I would expect them to take the head apart to see what was broken. They worded my receipt as just diagnostic, not compression test or etc so I cant even file a complaint with the DMV. In conclusion there are many other games in town and you should shop around. 16 hours labour haha. Ok their shop rate 108 dollars an hour 2.25 hours for a compression test that usually takes one hour max guys hahaha Im not making this up.To response: why should I leave my name I posted pictures of the invoice.the engine is not from a junkyard in flushing but from a reputable supplier in Jamaica queens why do you assume your source is more reliable? Its 2016 you can find reliable suppliers for everything. But bravo on another assumption that junkyards in flushing that have been in business for over 40+ years are not reputable though. Im not complaining about the costs the costs is whatever. But to DIAGNOSE AN ALREADY BLOWN ENGINE WITH A COMPRESSION TEST IS USELESS, ESP IF YOURE NOT GOING TO TAKE THE HEAD OFF and see which cylinder that is holding bad compression is messed up .engine already misfires on every cylinder and has an audible click and visible shaking At start up as per my odb2 scanner and my ears and my eyes and noticeable loss of power when I miss shifted from 5th to 2nd at 80mph. Engine replacement is a no brainer I didnt need you to tell me that ha. I told you all of this myself in the first email.I was hoping for just head damage and replacing the top. But they did compression test and took nothing apart. Whats the point of a compression test if youre not going to look inside the bad cylinders which came back with low compression. as per your website repairing engines can be more cost effective than replacement I didnt complain while I was there because it takes one second and a wire cutter to cut a wiring harness but thats also an assumption on my part. Readers can come to their own conclusions from my experience. But please consider I never got the results for my compression test . Leak down test or whatever test they claim they ran that wasnt listed on my invoice and just jumbled together as diagnostic time bravo. my engine needs a replacement after I money shifted ?! You dont say ?! you guys are geniuses ! and it only took you a compression test to figure it out ! I mean the constantly flashing cel the p0300 codes the loud knock and shaking didnt already tell you that ? Think u didnt even takeoff the vanitycover dust still on bolts.
