A quiet, safe and secure place. Convenient online services. Secured entry and electronic monitoring make this a top notch storage facility. Kind of pricey.
Easy to rent online. Clean & easy to access. Very nice they had a cart we could use. I would recommend and use again.
We moved to Ames and checked out various storage places and really liked what Squirrel Storage had to offer. We have not been disappointed!Eben and the staff have been super helpful all the way along and especially as we moved from two units to one. The 24/7 access is perfect for our schedule. An all around great experience so far!
Easily the best self storage facility in Ames. If you rent elsewhere, youll end up going to Squirrel eventually. They keep it clean and secure, never had any issues here.
Terrible!! double charged me ...unit had mold and ceiling had damage...property manager wouldnt refund us....had to go thru proper dispute both charges! stay away!! go to a reputable storage place
I love the complementary trained squirrels! With their furry little helping hands we were able to unload our truck in half the time. There is a problem with flooding and mold here though.
As an owner of a storage facility from another state who needed storage for my sons items in Ames, I was EXTREMELY impressed with Squirrel Storage. They offer a lot of unit sizes and prices, are clean, well-managed and secure. Definitely TOP-NOTCH! One thing some people seem to have an issue with is the move-out policy - but it is a very easy online form - so if you know exactly when you plan to move out, take the 2 minutes to fill out the form with your move-out date AS SOON AS YOU RENT YOUR UNIT (and ask for an email confirmation reply, and follow-up if you do not get one). These 2 minutes when you rent will avoid headaches when you vacate your unit. But our entire experience was great and issue free. Not only would I recommend them, but will use them again myself when the need arises. Thanks Squirrel Storage!
We had a great experience using this unit while in the process of moving. It would have been nice to be warned about the LOUD alarm that sounds when you log in and enter the gates, though. It about scared us to death the first time. Then it became a nice notice that someone else was entering or exiting...especially late at night. I would use this storage facility again if needed.
From start to finish I received excellent customer service while storing my things at Squirrel Storage for the past 10 months. The unit itself was an outdoor unit which seemed to seal well as I had no issues with moisture or critters/bugs (I did stack my boxes on wooden pallets that they had available for use). No property damage or theft issues. The manager, Eben, was always very professional, helpful, and quick to respond to questions and/or requests. I also interacted with the staff while renting a Penske moving van upon leaving, which was a pleasant and easy experience as well. I would definitely recommend Squirrel Storage and will use them again if I need a storage unit or a rental truck!
Very up to date. Secured. Just dont get behind on rent. Your stuff will indeed get sold.
I was supposed to move out on 7th feb. However they marked me checked out and my password no longer works. Ruining all my moving in plans for my new apartment. And then you cant even reach them on weekend. Very upset.
Squirrel Storage has been a great place to rent a unit. Eben, the manager, has been kind, genuine, and incredibly helpful. The unit I rented was priced fairly and very clean upon move in I will definitely continue to use Squirrel in the future!
Signed a contract for a month and had read reviews prior to signing. As a result, I inquired about the cancellation policy as that seemed like a consistent complaint from renters. I was charged an extra months rent even though I had canceled and I had called the manager, Eben Foster, after I had not received a response to my email. Eben started the phone call by laughing at me and told me that there is a lock on the unit even though I had photos that said there wasnt. He told me that if I wanted to talk about this further I had to come down to the office and hung up on me. When I arrived at the office, he was sitting at his desk but had placed a handwritten note on the door that said the office was closed. I ultimately had to contact Story County Sheriff and my credit card company in order to get this corrected. Avoid this company.
I would definitely recommend Squirrel Storage to anyone. When we originally booked our unit we thought we would only be in our storage unit for a few months. Those few months turned into almost a year. We chose a temperature controlled unit and it kept our items in perfect condition. We felt the pricing was very reasonable but what really made it great was the owner. He was always very responsive to questions and was super helpful. When we moved out of our unit my husband was the only one to come back and we had a miscommunication about our washer and dryer. I told him to take it to my parents so they could sell them at their home and my husband thought I meant they could sell them directly from the storage unit. Since we are now in South Dakota we had no way to quickly come back and remedy the situation so I messaged Chris in a panic and explained the situation and he gave us several options of what we could do and even helped us find an organization to donate it to, so that they would go to someone in need of a washer and dryer. He definitely didnt have to do this but he did. He truly went above and beyond. If you want a great place to store your stuff and a great business owner you definitely should check out Squirrel Storage. Thank you!!!
Very helpful staff. Units are clean! Very good security.
I am currently renting from Squirrel Storage/Campus Fortress Storage. I absolutely love the space in my rental as I have a lot of items I needed stored and I am in a transition period until I move into my new home. I expressed I didnt know how long I needed it for but also let them know what I needed to store and they directed me to the appropriate unit that would fit my needs. It is easy to access and I love that it is secured and well monitored. Payment online is easy to set up! Would and do recommend to anyone I know looking for storage.
Someone told us to try this storage facility rather than lugging home a dorm room full of items at the end of the school year. BEST DECISION EVER! This facility is clean, reasonably priced and easily accessible. We will be moving our son back to school in a few weeks and cant tell you how much easier it will be to pack his clothes and just a few small boxes we brought home in the car. If you live outside Iowa and have a son/daughter at ISU, think about using this facility.
Staff was friendly & helpful! Locker was great and perfect for the year we needed it.
Great location. Storage units are clean and dry. Have not had too much of a problem with staff/billing
Id used Campus Fortress for roughly a year, and it was one of the best storage units Ive had through my moves and more. Their rates per the square footage have been some of the best, and their security is quite good. The service with their staff is quite good, and the convenience of their online website for payments and other forms makes taking care of business easy. Will definitely suggest this to my friends.
Ive been using these folks for storage for two years now and Im very happy with them. Yes, there are cheaper places in town, but Campus Fortress is climate controlled which is a big deal for me. Their online payment system is a plus as well. As for security, Im not sure what else you would want. The facility is key code entry only, with each code assigned to a unique individual. The place is also crawling with cameras. All in all Im very satisfied with Campus Fortress, and Im glad I chose them to store all of my stuff.
Two weeks ago I set up an appointment to rent an RV storage spot for 3 p.m. today in Ames...no one was there.I called posted number but it went to some central dispatch in who knows what state. She said she would have her manager call me...but no one called.I need a place by tomorrow and Im SOL.Reputable businesses answer their own phone and screw ups like this dont happen.
The property manager and staff are experts at swindling the public. I rented a unit for 5 months and paid up front (utilized it for 4.5 months), at the time of contract they were notified that everything would be removed before the specified date on the agreement. Both parties agreed to the lease end date. I had moved all the belongings out 2 weeks prior to the end of the lease agreement and notified them upon doingso. To my great surprise 6 days into the following month i get a threatening phone call from the manager that theyd report to the credit agencies that i was late making the months payment and id have to pay a late fee to boot. This was after the contract was satisfied and over. I called them out on the shady business practices. As it stands neither party is willing to budge. They are shady, swindling, con artists, who will try to take advantage of honest people whom have shown willingness and ability to pay for the services provided, yet when questioned about those who arent as honest they implied you cant get blood from a turnip. STAY CLEAR of this establishment......
I used this storage facility to store furniture over the summer while waiting for my new lease to start. My furniture was in one of the climate controlled units for two months. I got the climate control to protect my belongings from any moisture damage or heat damage since literally everything I own was going in there. When I went back to move everything out, everything that wasnt sealed in a storage container was completely ruined by mold. I had to throw out all of my furniture. Thousands of dollars worth. I dont know how it happened, but when they say climate controlled they must not be telling the truth. And the units arent completely separated, up towards the top of the units, there is a gap so all units share the same air, this might have been the problem if someone else had moldy things in their unit it could have spread through the air. Im not sure, all I know is everything I own is now ruined. Im never using storage units again, especially not this one.
The Unit was clean and well maintained, but the office staff and the way of doing business is poor. We rent a unit for our son who is a student at ISU. We paid for the unit in advance from March to August. We explained that we only needed the unit until the end of August and they had us fill out contract papers and put an end date of August 31, 2019 on the contract. They said that this will allow his to only have the unti until the end of August. Well on August 14th he returned to Ames for school and emptied the unit, swept it out and notified the person in the office that he had cleared the unit. We thought all was good, until September 6th we got a call stating that we had a late fee and had to pay for September as we cleared the unit and they needed 30 day notice. We explained that they had 5 month notice as we only contracted the unit until August back in March. We asked them to look at the contract which they refused to pull up and look at. They said they dont do that (but on the FAQ page on their website, it clearly states they do). We explained that they were told on August 14th, why didnt anyone say anything then? They said that they still have to charge for the month of September as the 14th of August was not 30 day notice prior to the end of the month. Mid you we paid all 5 months back in March and the contract that we have clearly states that the unit is only to be rented from March to end of August. They still charged us for September and refused to follow their contract. They were good while we were using the unit, but when we were done, they still wanted more money. This place is a scam at the end of your contract. We have notified the BBB of Greater Iowa, the Ames Chamber of Commerce and the will be calling the City of Ames Clerks office on their business practices. We have also sent the BBB, Commerce and Clerks office a copy of the receipt and the contract to prove that they are scamming people after there contract is up.
We had some deals with the price of the unit and I was super annoyed by it but the manager was able to help us and worked with us. If the management keeps up with the type of care and hearing people out we are definitely gonna continue our storage there.
We prepaid for a unit for ot soon who attends ISU. We paid in full from March to August. We informed them when we got the unit that we would not need it after school started in August. We filled ot all necessary paperwork for the unit. On August 14th my son returned to campus, removed all his items from the unit and swept it out. He had told the person in the office that he was done with the unit. Now September 6th we get a call saying we have to pay for September when we were only contacted and paid for in advance until August. This place tries to scam you for extra months when your done with your lease. Do not rent from them.We are contacting the BBB of DesMoine and the City Clerks office of Ames on their practices. It is illegal to charge for a unit theat you no longer use and full filled your side if the contract.
Mold mold mold... rude rude rude. They have no honor or commitment to service. Do not rent from there! Everything we had in a air conditioned unit had mold on it. Their air unit broke down. re got no refund and she said she didnt care. Its obvious they are taking advantage of college students and their parents. Go somewhere else to a place that cares and honors their contract.
First of all anything less than the extra large doesnt fit a car. And there is three month minimum. And if you booked the wrong size they wouldnt switch. Meaning find somewhere else.
Friendly staff and a very clean and well run operation. Would not hesitate to use again.
I would highly recommend Campus Fortress to anyone looking for secure, clean storage in the Ames area. My experience with the staff has been nothing but positive and they were quick to respond to any questions or concerns I had during my lease. They were also kind enough to not charge me an additional month even though the lease clearly stated 30 days notice was needed. If we ever need storage again for our daughter while she is in Ames for college, we will be sure to use Campus Fortress Storage.
Checking the BBB site for Campus Fortress Storage while looking for a storage unit, I notice that there has only been one (1) complaint to the BBB in the last three years. The result of that complaint was that the BBB determined the company made a reasonable offer to resolve the issues, but the consumer did not accept the offer. Take the previous review with a grain of salt.
Great location, lots of options, very pleased with my rental experience.
In typical Haverkamp fashion you need to make sure that you get peoples names when you talk to anyone about their services as you will get the run around and lied to. I contacted Haverkamp/Campus Fortress about moving out of my unit months ago. I additionally contacted them the day I moved out and was informed that I needed to send a written request a month earlier. I said Id pay the next month and said they should take this call as my move out request. Silly me, I should have asked to speak to the persons manager to confirm that they could actually use my phone call as the move out request. Now Im paying two extra months.Haverkamp is by far the worst property manager I have ever interacted with. I made a point of not using their services and they ended up buying the storage location I was using. I would recommend you stay away from their properties but sadly they are gradually buying up all of Ames. So glad I left that town.
Clean, easy to reserve and helpful staff.
Wonderful storage facility.
Prices double after 3 months
Great customer service
