My husband and I both enjoyed the food from the diner and we were pleased with the variety of groceries. Truly enjoyed my greek salad and Baklava! But what really stood out was Ahmed’s kind, endearing conversation and warm welcome. The atmosphere in the dining part is casual unpretentious. My favorite place to get food!
I was excited to come here because I don’t have much experience with Middle Eastern cuisine, but I am trying to learn more dishes. They had an incredible selection of products and the prices were very fair. The staff was helpful and kind as well. I will be returning soon to try some of the restaurant food as it looks incredible!
One must try the spicy gyro. It was the best gyro Ive ever had. The peppers created a different flavor profile
My absolute favorite place for gyros and their other specialty foods are GREAT. The grocery store is worth a very slow walk through as the sights and smells is like you traveled overseas to incredible lands. Love this place and the people who run it are so welcoming. This is worth driving to.
It is one of the very few places in Ames from where you can get halal products, including raw chicken, beef, lamb and ready to eat products. There is also a restaurant inside it which serves good Indian and Arabic cuisine.
Great selection plus we were given free samosa samples after checking out. Definitely recommend.
This is a neat store with lots of spices and foods from all over the world. Shop for groceries and stay for lunch or dinner.
Great food and customer service. There are is also a wide variety of international groceries. Well worth visiting.
Ahmed has done a fabulous job with stocking Asian and Middle Eastern groceries as well as serving some amazing food. Ames owes him a massive debt for fulfilling our Middle Eastern food cravings.
From international spices, goods, and even hair products, Pammels grocery has everything and more that I can never find at any other store. The owner makes a point to greet you and get to know each and every one of his customers. Also the restaurant in the back of the store is always busy for a good reason (due to the food being DELICIOUS).
Best gyros in Ames hands down. The owner is super nice and they had a good looking menu. Will be going back there again to try their other food.
Amazing gyros! We have never been disappointed. We ask for the tzaziki on the side. Both the lamb and the chicken gyros are excellent. The samosas are tasty and spicy.
Absolutely fantastic! Friendly atmosphere and happy to answer questions about foods Ive never seen before and have no idea how to use (but the desire to try). The absolute BEST gyro (get it with everything on it)! Love the selection of vegetarian foods too. Prices are fantastic too. Cant recommend them enough.
LOVE this place. Been going here since around 2008 and will continue to do so. Great supplier for halal foods as well as other international foods and items not typically found in regular grocery stores. Awesome lunch and dinner available, too! Even has great vegetarian options.
They make fantastic, authentic Middle Eastern food!
Nice, family-run place with a great selection of food. The kids really enjoy trying out different, imported goods.
Great food. Nice staff. Bought a bunch of good spices while we were there. Looking forward to getting back.
The gf and I just moved up here from texas and have been super unsatisfied with the local cuisine until we found this place. The meat in the gyros almost melts in your mouth and the spicy is the perfect blend of flavor/heat. Were definitely adding this to our favorite lunch spots
While the store is well stocked with items from various regions (see their website for more), this review is specifically about the deli.It is absolutely exceptional. It may be a little overwhelming to a new customer, however the staff is very kind and helpful, and the food is absolutely delicious. I would strongly recommend anyone in need of food to stop in and get a meal. My favorite is the gyro w/ fries, however they have many options including a large assortment of halal items.Once again, absolutely exceptional.
First time there great food and experience. The owner was pleased to have new customers and made us feel welcomed. I will visit again next time we are down from Minnesota! Ya sure you betcha!!!
Good amount of variety of Indian grocery, friendly owner
Almost all Indian spices are available here along with middle eastern and Asian ones.
Great selection, caring / helpful service, and a family-run business.
I visit Pammel at least once a week. Youll enter through the grocery. Its the best place in town to pick up spices, dried beans, rice, and a wide variety of ethnic goods. The restaurant is situated in the back and is a must visit! The hummus, falafel, and baba ganoush are otherworldly. There are great vegetarian/vegan options, and everything is generous in portion and price. Grab a seat in the cozy dining area and youll likely witness the owner interact with some of the regular patrons. Observe his patient, caring, and helpful demeanor and their enthusiastic faces as they place their order and youll understand that what makes Pammel so special extends beyond the delicious food.
The food was well seasoned & evenly portioned. It is priced to go with what youve ordered. Taste is spot on with the middle east flavors.
The food is great, and they have baklava and fantastic gyros. The people who run the place are making no accommodations for social distancing and they are not wearing masks or anything! The guy who runs the register sits right there, barely a foot away from you, and he likes to chat with you while slowly scanning your items. With nothing in between him and you.Order from this place at your own risk during covid.
Gyro sandwich and fries are the best!!!! 🥇Such a friendly and welcoming staff there.
So much to try!Great selection of foreign foods.Had the gyro salad with pita for lunch. Delicious!
Pammel is a remarkable dining experience to say the least. The international market has a vast selection of interesting items
The spicy gryo is great. This is my go to place whenever Im in Ames.
Fast and friendly service good food fair prices
I worked in a Greek owned steakhouse growing up. Im picky about my Gyros. Pammels is the BEST. I want to try the rest of the food, but the Gyros are so good I havent ordered anything else yet. This place is hidden treasure. Go there ASAP. The owner is very pleasant as well. So glad I found this place.
Delicious food and great, kind family that owns the store. Love to go get a fresh gyro and piece of baclava for dessert!
Good food but it would be nice if the owner and staff wore masks even if only while serving guests.
Great selection of unique items. Friendly people but no masks
Had Lamb biriyani and it was very mild, but tastes good!
A great variety of products and awesome food.
I almost dont want to give a review because I dont want the competition, but Pammel Grocery has THE BEST gyro meat. Seriously, its the best, go get an gyro there and despair of getting one as good from anywhere else.
Got the chicken shawarma with fries; it was good.
Wonderful gyros!
Awesome food; one of the best kept secrets of Ames townies.
Amazing Gyros! Very friendly family owned business!!
Very kind staff and great selection of food.
Great assortment of International food inthe front and a cafe in the back with delicious gyros in addition to other Middle Eastern foods. Everything I have tried has been wonderfuld
I love Pammel grocery! The whole place smells wonderful! The have tons of different spices and ingredients for international cooking. They also have an amazing grill in the back of the store where you can order entrees or sandwiches. The food is restaurant quality. Ive never had a bad dish!
Really nice people work here. The food is good.
Great place for spices and a gyro! Seriously get a gyro.
All India and Asian groceries are available.
Quality of this place has gone downhill dramatically over the last few years
Friendly staff, delicious food, family owned, no complaints. Highly recommend their gyros!
The best gyros in town.... Friendly atmosphere..reasonable prices... Just dont talk politics with the owner!!! 😆
Good place to shop for Indian Grocery at Ames, Iowa.
Took my college age son here. Our first time. Exactly what I hoped it would be. The gentleman who greats you at the food counter is the owner Im assuming cause he paid for our food. Gave us free samples even. The man takes pride in what hes doing there. Respect that. Dont miss this gem.
Good selection of hard to find middle east and near east grocery items. The food st the grill is great and Achmed (the owner) is an incredibly friendly and loving man. I strongly recommend the lamb kabob, shawarma, and gyro. The other items are great too, but these are our favorites!
Interesting shop. I also enjoyed my tandoori chicken.
Always helpful, always friendly, always a decent price, always good. This is just the grocery. I need to eat at the deli and visit their locker in Stanhope. Super people who have not changed since their days in Pammel Court. High quality lamb. Stop by, you will enjoy your visit.
Very nice people. And they have great customer service. The food is great too!! I love going there.
Great service and great international food (Amazing burgers)
The most fantastic Middle Eastern restaurant youll find in Ames, and just about anywhere else!! Its authentic, the chefs and owners are generous with portions, and you can tell the place cooks food with care. Highly recommend the gyro meat (which you can ask for a sample). You wont regret trying the delicious food, and every time we visit town, we make sure to stop by. Its that wonderful!!
I dont dislike it. . Its js small International store in Ames
Excellent international market
Come here for the food. Come again. Repeat. The owner Ahmed is a very interesting man and has a warm smile that is hard to describe until you’ve seen it. Once he gets to know you, he will usually take the time to chat and provide a very welcoming atmosphere. The food is tasty, and reasonably priced. Gyros, kabobs, etc., and if you like it spicy ask for it. This is the best gyro in town. Also, try the Chai. It’s $1 and delicious!
Great food and grocery!
If you like Gyros this is the place.
Overpriced!
Very good food. The Gyro is really the best in town. I liked also the lamb biryani and the tandoori chicken. Everything was wonderful. I like to go there very often. This is my best restaurant in town.
So so SO good. Amazing gyros
Best kept secret in Ames! Go getcha a gyro!
I wasnt impressed with the food but the menu is very different than any other cultural restaurant Ive been too. My spouse enjoys Indian food and spicy stuff and he likes going there, but not his favorite. Pretty cool that you can buy Indian? (or whatever kind of food they serve) at the grocery store that the restaurant is located inside of. Very cute cultural experience if wanting to try something new.
I always come back to this place. They have the brands I love at reasonable prices. And the people who work here are super friendly.
Love the variety of food from all over the world. Gyros are delicious. Best Feta cheese ever
Authentic food, friendly and helpful staff.
A hidden gem in Ames. Some of the best gyros and samosas Ive ever had!
Great service and delicious food. Best gyros in the area by a wide margin. Highly recommended.
We love this place. We buy lots of snacks and drinks here. The staff are always friendly.
Food is fantastic! An experience everyone should have if they like foreign foods. Family run business. Very laid back.
A mixed Indian, African grocery store with lot of varieties. Some Indian fish are available. All halal products and fresh vegetables every Wednesday. A plus is the restaurant which offers a range of Indian and Mediterranean food. The only place in Ames with such variations.
You must eat here while in Ames. Everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. The service is amazing. They sell all kinds of fruit juices and sodas. Ive witnessed the owner sit down with a customer to talk about Christianity and Islam in a very respectful and understanding manner, even though, the customer was being extremely rude. Also, almost every time Ive sat down for lunch in the summer, they have passed out free slices of homegrown watermelon or honeydew. Truly an amazing place.
This place is excellent! The food is fantastic and I love the owners. I grew up in India and the middle east and can say that this place has a good mix of both. You wont be disappointed!
I love this unassuming Lebanese grill! The gyro and fries is truly memorable; its the perfect lunch👌. Definitely unpretentious and a little hard to locate the first time visiting it, but well worth it. You have to walk through an imported foods grocery section to reach the eating and ordering area, so dont give up when it doesnt seem like a restaurant at the door. I have brought a ton of friends here and they love it. My wifes favorite is the falafels. Definitely a hidden gem in Ames!
Favorite place for lunch
Mediterranean food at a great price. The best place to get gyros in Ames. The owner is also super nice and will make sure you are taken care of. The grocery portion of Pammel also has a great selection of spices and foods that dont frequently appear in other Ames supermarkets.
Love the food from the deli in the back! They are very friendly and helpful. Lots of options of things to buy also, but they might have more stuff than their store can handle. Aisles are full!
Hidden gem in Ames. Best gyros around. Every menu item Ive had is delicious. The restaurant is in the back of the grocery store. Theyre very patient with new customers, helping you order and understand what each item is if youre not familiar with Mediterranean food. Very kind people.I dont shop in their grocery store, but my friends who do are very impressed with their selection.
For people from the subcontinent specially, this place feels like home.
Great food and variety. Super friendly staff. And with some sunshine one can finally sit outside and enjoy food and sun at the same time!!!
Amazing gyros. Make sure to add the hot peppers and feta! I moved 40 minutes away from Ames and it’s one of my most-missed restaurants.
Do you like gyros ? Compared to great restaurant s in Chicago . this place is just as good nice people work there must see !!
Best grocery store and grill restaurant I have ever been to. Thanks to the Owner ❤️
Great food and groceries. Ahmad, the owner, provides great service and conversation.
The best, if youre not in a hurry.
One of my favorite places in Ames to eat. Hole in the wall that feels a lot like little grocery/eating establishments overseas. The food is ALWAYS excellent with great flavor, but not to spicy unless you ask for it. Gyro and falafel, ya cant go wrong. The grocery portion has a large selection of foods and goods, specializing in Halal options. Great place to explore and try new things or just pick up some top quality rice and spices
Surprisingly got many Indian groceries.
