The process of picking the car was great. Alexandra was amazing. Unfortunately that is the only good part from the whole experience Ive had with this company. Ive had my vehicle passed the allotted time for temporary plates, and no one there seems to care or acknowledge this fact. I have reached out several times, but no one ever calls back.
Shout out to John in the service area for fixing the seat on my Acura. He was so accommodating and pleasant. He fixed the seat back that was loose for no charge. It’s nice to know this level of service still exists. Thank you again, John!!
First time buying from a dealership, and the experience was much easier and stress free than I expected. Jerry was a great salesman and had a wonderful time interacting with him.Got the vehicle I wanted at a great rate and didnt have to worry about any strange line items on the final bill.10/10 would recommend Honda of Ames.
Have contacted dealership and still no title. Was told it was sent off last week and they had 30 days before they had to send off to me. over 30 days now and I have to pay penalties for not getting it licensed and titled
Excellent service in both sales and finance
I purchased a used car on 5/27/2021 from Honda of Ames. I am a first-time car buyer not knowing what to fully expect. My temporary tags are set to expire soon so I went down to the treasurer’s office to register the car. They had told me the dealership hadnt sent in any of the paperwork and to give the dealership a call. I ended up calling the dealership several times to speak with the salesman Dan Lowe who sold me the car and left two messages. After not hearing back I called for a third time that day and asked to speak with someone who could help. I was transferred to the title clerk Tracy. Tracy let me know that Dan was to call me after my first message that I left that morning. She then informed me that they sold me a car they do not have the title to. She told me she would make this a top priority tomorrow and we would be in touch. After not hearing from Tracy the next day I gave her a call at noon, she didn’t sound happy I was calling, she let me know that she has things to do every morning and she would call later in the day. I am currently waiting on phone calls and waiting for this situation to be resolved. I have yet to hear from Dan.They never disclosed to me the day I went to look and purchase the car that they didn’t have a title to the vehicle. I also asked about extending the date on my temporary tags as they are to expire soon and them selling me a car they dont have a title to is out of my control. I was told that is something they cant do. They should have never had the car up for sale if they did not have the title. This is in fact illegal.I had previously applied for a loan through my bank. I told Dan Lowe (the salesman) that and after deciding I would like to buy the car Dan mentioned the finance department would push for us to finance thru them. Dan said to let them know we have family at the bank and thats why we are going thru them. We ended up working with Aaron Warren he did push us financing with them almost to the point I was uncomfortable and ready to leave with no car. He wouldnt drop it. He would ask well who in the family works there, what position do they hold, is family really that important and would go on and on. I also had to put in a new battery on 6/21/2021 not one month after buying the car after being told it was in great condition and taken care of. They also stated they would have the car cleaned while we were in the finance department filling out the paperwork and the car never moved and was not cleaned before leaving.
Dealership will try to upcharge with you a $1,200 permaplate option that you don’t want and tell you that it’s “mandatory”. Also, brand new car only came with 1 key so we had to do an extra trip to the dealership to get the key programmed and wait another 1.5 hours for the service. Place also needs some deep cleaning with stained drop ceiling tiles and furniture. The finance people were fantastic which is the only reason why I gave three stars instead of one.
Had a great purchasing experience! We were looking for a specific model, color, and trim level and were able to find it on Honda of Amess website. We called one minute prior to closing on a Friday night and Dan Lowe answered the phone and helped us out late into the evening. Dan offered a great price and helped us add all the accessories we wanted. He also helped secure great financing terms. We traveled 200+ miles just to do business with Dan and Honda of Ames. Im a very happy customer!
I sold them a car on 8/2/21. We agreed to a price and I left it with them, expecting it to be paid off with in a few business days. Was I wrong. It took 25 days, several hours on the phone, 2 trips there(45miles each way). On my last trip I demanded my car back since they hadn’t paid and was assured it would be handled on that following Monday. To my surprise, they actually got the check mailed on that monday and it was just paid off today 8/27/21. This dealership is so un-organized and un-professional. The GM is in LALA land and doesn’t seem to know what is going on at the dealership he runs and the finance guy is a rude, pushy, unpleasant person as well.Honda is such a good brand and this place is doing harm everyday to their brand. A close friend bought a car in early May and didn’t get the title until late august, over 90 days to get the title. I have bought 30 cars from 20 different dealerships all over Iowa and America and NEVER had anything but great experiences. This has been a 25 day nightmare that is finally over. Please consider my review and the dozens of other bad reviews on their google page before trusting them with the second biggest transaction you will do in your life. Sorry for the harsh review but I’m hoping Honda will see it and change how that dealership runs.
Bought a car that has been thoroughly “inspected”, and right after I got it it needed a new strut and a had a loose part in the engine. Would never buy here again.
They were so kind when it was my first time buying a newish car. And even after i thought i got everything out of my old car, the salesperson brought somethin to me that would have been lost forever. Very personable, will highly recommend and come back
I bought a car from here back in February and I absolutely love it. However if there is one thing I can tell you its that a warranty with this dealership is a must! I took my used car from here on a road trip and as we got ready to come home the transmission died. When I first bought the car, the salesman promised me that every car here has undergone all of the maintenance needed to keep it functional and reliable. When I had my car looked at in Chicago, I was told that the reason for my transmission dying was due to lack of maintenance on the vehicle. Do not trust them when they say that their used vehicles are maintained. Luckily for me, I had a warranty that covered the $6400 bill. I was very pleased with this dealership until this happened. No car should blow a transmission at 90k miles, and no car should blow a transmission two months after you buy it. If you must buy a car from here, get a warranty!
Great service, did all they could do to get me the car I wanted. Only complaint is my reverse lights were supposed to be fixed but they werent.
This shop cheated on me. I bought a honda from my friend, before a long travel, I went to this shop and asked them to give my car a carefull inspection, they did inspection, and ask me to replace timing belt and water pump, I did this. But later, my friend told me that he already replaced timing belt and water pump not long time ago!!!!!!I wish to give this shop zero star.
I called and spoke to Wayde and he was very knowledgeable about the cars. I called several other dealerships and decided to go to Ames based on that contact. When I arrived, Wayde was courteous and asked specifically what I was looking for. When I went on a test drive, he was very specific on showing me how to use each feature in the car. Wayde was very thorough on the benefits of the car and how each aspect within the car worked. He showed me several videos as well and made sure I was comfortable when waiting for financing. Wayde did not push me to purchase anything. He gave me detailed information and let me make the decision what would work best for me. This was the best experience I have had in the 20 years I have purchased cars. Wayde did a superior job and I would recommend going to see him at Honda in Ames to anyone.
Absolutely would recommend adolfo as the salesman here went out of his way to take care of me. I had a great experince and they even called me a few weeks later after purchasing a used vehicle to fix a problem that was found during inspection. Go out of their way to take car of you even if their are hiccups will definately go here again
I had a great experience driving the new honda insight. Evrything was handled very professionally and I was also offered a ride back home.
We were searching for a car for our daughter who couldnt afford much, Percy was the salesman who helped us. He honestly acted like we were wasting his time. He couldnt have cared less. We went to Toyota instead and were treated like we were buying a high end car.
Percy was awesome. He was professional and easy to talk to. As a salesman he was not pushy and answered all my questions. Overall it was a great experience.
Awful experience. first off, I needed to get a loan & had previously had a loan through Green State Credit Union which Honda works with. I wanted to stick with that bank, which i specified from the beginning. I found a car & was told to wait to hear back on credit. I waited over 2 hours for Eric to tell me that he talked to multiple credit unions & that we would have to wait till the next day to get things done with Greenstate. He questioned why i had him look at multiple banks if i only wanted Greenstate. I told him that i specified with Tammy prior. I waited 2 hours because i then was told to come back the next day. I had to make another trip from Ankeny to Ames. I decided a few months down the road that i didnt like my car and wanted to trade in. I looked at Honda Of Des Moines and after doing a car fax check on the car from Ames, i was told that my value went down 5,000 due to an accident reported on the car from the previous owner. I was NEVER disclosed this information. I asked to speak to management MULTIPLE TIMES and was NEVER contacted by management directly. I left voicemails and continued to check in with someone to be contacted. I was given the choice to trade in my car and then get something else. issue with that is i wasnt finding anything, was limited in price due to having to pay my loan off, and was LIED TO that i could NOT trade in at any other dealer due to the issue being through Honda Of Ames. Luckily, Karl Chevorlet in Ankeny was AMAZING. GO to them, not Honda Of AmesUPDATE—— I have been trying to contact them for MONTHS. I just need to cancel my warrenty & get money back. I have called, left voicemails, emailed, chatted & texted. I have asked for management, left voicemails to management, emailed management. & NOTHING. Not a call, email, text, voicemail. Nothing recieved back. I’m not one to even ask for management but i’m to the point of going above managment just to get helped. This is beyond the worst experiance i’ve ever had with any company.
My wife and I recently purchased a new Odyssey at Honda of Ames. We were struggling picking the right one and Honda of Ames worked hard to make sure we were comfortable picking the right one.Adolfo was great to work with. He excelled at personalization so that when we drove the new van off the lot it already felt like ours. I tried to setup a contact less transaction that was done primarily over phone/text and he worked hard to meet our needs.I would highly recommend Adolfo and the entire staff to anyone looking to find the right Odyssey and he will help you get a good deal.Thank you!
Do not trust these people to register your vehicle. They will offer to do it for you, as if they are doing it for your convenience. They registered my tags to expire the month of my birthday. I purchased the vehicle a month before my birthday. This resulted in me paying $825 for a month of registration. Take the time to register your own vehicle, to make sure it is done correctly. They are snakes. They arent doing you any favors; they just want your money.
Lithia Honda of Ames did not refill the oil in my car! My girlfriend took our car in for routine service as part of the oil changes for life we purchased when we first bought our car. She ran the car 1200 miles after the oil change before we checked the oil level and found that the car had no oil in it!! The service manager at lithia told me it is not uncommon for cars with 140k on them to burn that much oil in that short amount of time. The car didnt burn oil ever in its life prior to this and sell doesnt seem to burn why now. The lack of oil did however cause an engine tick. He is giving me the run around and does not care that his mechanics caused irreparable damage to my engine!! Lithia has offered nothing for compensation except to insinuate that this is my fault. I would warn anyone against doing any kind of business with this company. How would anyone trust them? Its a good thing they didnt rotate my tires or the wheels would likely have fallen off. Buyer beware!!
We visited Ames Honda today. My husband and I were helping our college age daughter look at used cars. My experience at this establishment was quite disturbing. Here are some snippets of the demeaning way the male staff treats a 50 year old woman. When I asked how long running some numbers would take... Buying a car takes longer than 10 minutes, you can go ahead and go shopping, your husband can take care of this.I moved a paper to read the interest rate, he covered the paper and... Just let me finishing explaining this to you before we talk about that. After an hour and still without exact financing offers, I ran an amortization schedule on my phone for my daughter... How did you figure that? People dont know the right way to figure interest. The financing guys ridiculous offer - she would end up paying $13000.00 for an $8000.00 car.I paid cash for the car just to get out of there and make sure they didnt make an extra penny of my daughter.Women beware of this place!
Service is good but very very expensive. I could simply pay half the price anywhere else with the same service quality.
The Dealership as a whole was a pleasant experience. They were friendly and helpful. Their service department is second to none. The sales staff worked hard to find the car that we wanted. I would recommend Honda of Ames
Kyle worked with us and understood we had a two hour drive, one-way. We told him what we wanted to look at and he had everything ready when we arrived. Kyle, the store manager, and finance team were amazing and flexible to our time constraints.
We were told that the used car had 2 keys. When we got car couldnt find the second key. The fina ce manager said did we see it in writing. Said no but salesman told us. He let it as salesman was lying and. Said no they wouldnt do anything to help us. The manager said they were losing money and we paid what they were asking and are to believe they were losing money. When i said that we cant believe that he just gave a grin!! So get everything in writing and wonder how car salesman get reputations
Service dept def needs some help. Its taken me 3 trips to do what should have been done in 1, and being 1.5 hrs away, didnt give me a break on the price. Tried to charge me on a recall service, after i told them it was a factory recall. Not well run at all
I appreciate that they still offer service while you wait. They are friendly and fast. And tha showroom feels clean!
Staff takes time to make sure you understand what is going on with your vehicle.
My husband and I drove to Honda of Ames from Des Moines to get the oil changed, tires rotated, and filters replaced on our 2019 Honda Ridgeline. 45 minutes and DONE!!!! We walked 10 minutes north to browse at Sams Club rather than wait in their very spacious lobby. Great work. Competent and cordial staff.
A shout out to Jonathon in the service department at Honda of Ames. He, in my opinion, went out of his way to fill an unusual request. Top shelf service, thanks.
Jerry was very nice and patiently explained everything we asked.
I had a genuine Honda remote start installation kit and requested Smart Honda to have it installed for my car. They said the charges were $350 plus tax. I got the installation done for $120 plus tax at Honda of Ames. Josh and other guy (cant recall his name) from service department are really nice people. They were kind, helped me with all the questions I had and explained things I need to have knowledge about my car. Though these guys are 40 miles away from where I live. I would still have my car serviced here just so that I know my car is in safe hands.
I had the privilege of shopping for a Honda Pilot at Honda of Ames. Zach was my salesperson. He was professional, respectful. I felt of all the different vehicles I shopped for he knew all aspects of his product the best. I ended up going in a different direction but if we are in the market Honda of Ames and Zach will be our go-to place. Thanks again Zach. Keep up the good work.
Purchased a 2020 Honda Odyssey from Jerry at Honda of Ames. 1st he he went through a list of questions asking me how Id like my van set up. He said that he would have it all set up (radio station, door locks, computer stuff). I get into my new van and nothing was set up. I had to figure it out by myself. Then the next day I go to leave for work and my van is dead as a door nail. The drivers side sliding door doesnt work either. Had to have it towed into Smart Honda because it was too expensive to be towed to Ames. Now, I am being told that I have to take my 2 day old van into a body shop to be worked on and they still have to look at the door to figure out why it doesnt work and causing my battery to drain. Oh, and the general manager doesnt care because he is busy doing an interview and he will have to call me back later. Sad thing is that this is my 2nd Honda Odyssey and the first one was no better. At least my old one I kind of had everything fixed on it.
The service department always is informative and professional. Great service and efficient in their timely repairs.
Wish he had explained the brakes notes. Didnt see them until I got to car. Service was fine.
Easy to talk to with only the normal amount of pressure to purchase extra options. Enjoying our purchase immensely!
Watch out, even with the Honda name attached, theyre still just car salesmen. They tried to hit me with a fee for turning in my leased civic when the lease expired, despite the fact that I purchased the car. I had even made a special appointment a week before the purchase to come in specifically to find out what I would owe in fees if I purchased the car, and was told by Adolpho that there would be no turn-in fee if I purchased the car. I was told this again on the day I bought the car when I was going through the paperwork with Aaron, the financial manager. Sure enough, three weeks later I notice a turn-in fee listed on my account statement, so I called the dealership to explain that I didnt turn in the car, I purchased it and had been told multiple times that I would not pay any fees if I made the purchase. Aaron refused to offer any help, became very defensive and actually told me that what was listed on my bill as the turn-in fee was not actually a turn-in fee, and I was contractually obligated to make the payment. When I asked why he didnt tell me this when we were going over the paperwork, he claimed that he usually tells people but just happened to forget in my case. He directly implied that Im unable to afford the fee, despite his knowing nothing about my personal financial situation, and insisted that I would be paying the fee no matter what. His attitude was rude, condescending, and insulting, showing absolutely no respect for me as a customer. When I called Honda Financial Services to explain my situation, I was immediately told that I shouldnt have had the fee applied to my account since i purchased the car, and it was removed without any trouble. Total opposite of my experience dealing with Aaron. I tried to call the dealership to talk about the way I was treated and the fact that the financial manager gave me totally incorrect financial advice, regarding my vehicle purchase, but the manager Mike would not take my calls and would not call me back after leaving a voice message. Im left with the impression that I caught some shady car salesmen with their hands in my pocket. All they had to do was reverse a fee that I was told I wouldnt have to pay in the first place, but that was too much to ask. I will never be giving these people my business again.
Great service and a good place to buy a car
Have always had positive customer service experiences with Honda of Ames. Have not purchased from them yet, but would consider a new car purchase. Routine service appointments have always been completed on time.
I find Honda of Ames to be professional and kind. They listen to my needs and sell me what I ask for. The service department is wonderful, too, and it is because of the service department that I return to buy my cars time after time from Honda of Ames.
I have been a customer since 2003 and have found service to be excellent. Sales people are friendly, not pushy, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile. I highly recommend them.
As always the service department performance was 5 star and I’ll continue using their services.
We decided we liked a car so took it to a personal mechanic (VIN: 3GNCJPSB1GL265869) and were told the air compressor was bad (~1,000 fix) and upon returning to the dealership they said they were pulling the car off market because it might have to be auctioned off... seemed really shady especially since the car is STILL on the market and never seemed to have left. Buyer beware.
Andrew (the old guy) is the best sales person. I bought a civic two years ago. Dealer finance is stupid..
Lied to me in order to make a sale! Very unhappy!!! Their service contracts are a scam! Highly advise you to shop elsewhere.
They got me in on the same day to fix my Odyssey. Thanks!
I recently sold my 2015 Honda Civic back to Honda of Ames. I was happy with the fact that they were giving me a good price and refunding the unused portion of the extended warranty I had been talked into when buying. However, first it took 10 days for my bank to get the money from selling the car. I had been told the warranty refund would take 2-3 weeks, so I expected that. After 3 weeks, I did not have the refund so I called them. I was told, oh no it was actually 4-6 weeks. Fine. I waited 3 more weeks and called back. Oh sorry, it is actually 2-3 months to get a refund. They told me they dont issue those checks very often so I have to wait for the next day they decide to... I still dont have my money and it has been 3 months. Every time I call, I get a different story as to why I havent gotten my money yet. Their customer service is a joke. Be careful selling your car to them if you actually need the money quickly as I did. If you are okay waiting months to actually get your money then feel free to sell your car to them.
Experience was really good everyone was very nice I just wish that the salesman knew a little bit more about the car that I bought it just needed a few maintenance things that I needed to do after I bought it which I was not looking forward to
Best car shopping experience Ive had so far! This was my first time buying my own car where I was in charge of what I wanted and could get. I had looked so many places, but Honda of Ames looked like they had the best selection of used vehicles for me to choose from. I test drove and purchased a vehicle all within a few hours. Our salesman (Ryan!) was absolutely wonderful. He went the extra mile. He was patient, friendly, understanding, and honest. He allowed me to test drive several vehicles and went so far as to walk around the car with me and point out things that werent necessarily ideal (scratches, dents, etc). I definitely recommend coming here when considering to purchase a new vehicle, and definitely recommend asking for Ryan to help you out! He is definitely what made the experience so positive!
A great experience! We had an outstanding experience. I dont know how it could have gone any better. I knew I may need to replace my current vehicle sometime within the year, but wasnt at all sure what I wanted. I stopped by the dealership one afternoon and happened to meet Adolfo. He was very helpful listening to my situation and helping me sort out what would be best for me. I drove several vehicles my first visit and really liked his approach, very easy to talk with, very well informed, not at all pushy but more interested in helping me get the vehicle thats best for me. A few weeks later, I ended up deciding to replace my current vehicle sooner than anticipated so emailed Adolfo one evening. We exchanged several emails quickly and he worked with me to the point where my wife and I drove to Ames the next evening. She drove the Honda Fit and we agreed thats what we wanted. We had expected we would have to return a few days later to pick up the Fit, but to our surprise they got it ready for us while we did the paperwork, credit app, trade-in, and even stayed open an hour after closing time! Couldnt have had a better experience--highly recommended!
Just bought a 2017 Accord EXL v6! Supposedly in Honda certified pre owned condition! Very nice ride overall! The salesman was friendly. The car had some scratches, and swirls in the paint. They said no problem on fixing it. It took a run around to get the appointment. Finally got the appointment, and the job wasn’t done right! I still have swirls in my paint and scratches! Apparently someone dropped the ball on the Honda certified inspection. Hopefully they remedy the situation, and I may change my rating. On top of that the wiper blades were worn out. This is my 2nd Honda purchase, and possibly the last depending on how this is dealt with unfortunately. Update- called back about my issues, and they haven’t returned my call! It’s been days!
Great place to buy a new or used car!
Great buying experience today! I highly recommend Jeff Liasle as a salesman. He us not pushy or salesy. He was also the most humble and kind salesman we’ve ever worked with. They had the best price on Honda Odyssey’s in this region and gave us a fair price for our trade. I give it four stars because negotiating took forever and it took awhile to finalize the deal. Otherwise, I would definitely buy another car from Jeff at this dealership.
Drove the vehicle home (about 45 minutes away). As I was nearing home, three different service lights came on. I attempted to immediately call the dealership, no answer. I have emailed 3 times with no response. I was simply wanting a conversation as there were no disclosures prior to purchase regarding service lights. Bad feeling when you purchase the car and the seller goes ghost. Cannot recommend at this time.UPDATE: They never called back, never emailed back even in my communications to the GM. Car leaks, I guess this wasnt found in their 49 point inspection. Never disclosed. I wish there was protection against salespersons like this but, hopefully you read this review and be aware of the shady practices by this company. Shame.
Ive been coming up to Lithia Nissan for a few years now for service - even purchased a Rogue here a couple years back. But when I took my Maxima here last week, there was a sign on the garage door that said to go back to the Honda dealership for service.I drove back to that service drive, and waited in line approximately fifteen minutes. When it was finally my turn inside, the service tech asked me if I had an appointment. I told him no that I had always driven up from Ankeny and waited patiently for the oil change and filter. He said, sorry, without an appointment we cant help you. I wanted to go inside and talk with Mike Gougherty (general manager) - but decided not to make waves, and just write my review. I guess customer loyalty means nothing anymore! Thats fine, I wont be back ... they evidently have all the business they need!UPDATE:General manager Mike G. called me about my review. He told me he didnt know how non-appointments were being handled, and apologized. Told me to return and the next oil change was on him. I have known Mike for a number of years and he is a man of his word. I have since had my vehicle in for an oil and filter change, and was treated quickly and courteously. I will be back to Lithia Nissan/Honda of Ames, and who knows - I might even buy my next car there!
Im significantly happier with my car buying experience here than my first experience. The sales person, Remington, was helpful, knowledgeable, and best of all he wasnt pushy. I bought a used car and they were up front about pricing and features. I did get asked if I wanted add-ons but when I showed no interest the matter was dropped.
I got a recalled airbag change mail. And schedule a free service in here. Do you know? they have a very nice service! They are very kind! They help me change two airbags quickly. I just wait for 1 hour. And they also check other things to ensure the car is safe! I am happy for their good service!!!
Bought a used car from salesman. Great value car and they helped me out with it. They didnt try any stupid high pressure sales tactics like Ames Ford Lincoln did....UPDATE: I have had my car 3 years now and its still running strong! Thank you Ames Honda! I still think I got a great deal on it too
They lie and don’t follow up. I regret ever going there not to mention falling for their great review stories and buying a car there. If you think there’s a car online that’s really a great deal what will happen is they will tell you it’s on a test drive and show you a different car. Classic bait and switch tactic. I am asking an opinion from attorney general if this is fradulent, deceptive advertising
We knew specifically what make and model of car we were hoping to get. The sales person (Steve) did a great job of listening to us and allowing us to test drive the different varieties and years. We got exactly what we wanted, didnt feel pressured to pay more than we thought we can afford. Conversation was also very good in the process.
I was not impressed with Jerry. When I picked up the car to drive it home, I noticed the door locks didnt operate correctly. Every time I came to a stop and started to accelerate the door lock would make a sound similar to the sound the lock makes when it is locking the doors. After two attempts to pick the car up, I was finally driving it home when I noticed the door lock issue. I didnt feel like turning around for a third time that day. I sent Jerry (my salesman) a message and he told me to make sure all of the doors were shut. Really? I decided to bypass Jerry and return the car to the service department to have a tech drive it. The tech said the door lock motor was going out of it. He said he would order a new one and call me when the motor arrives. Its been over four weeks and I havent heard from anyone at Honda of Ames. All this being said, I like the car. Im just not so sure about Honda of Ames.
After extremely poor interactions with two local Honda dealerships (both rated 2 stars on google reviews), I was forced to look outside my area. That is why we ended up with Honda of Ames. I am so glad we did!The first place I tried, wouldnt give me any pricing info without my social security number, and the second place convinced me to add in $3000 worth of service and protection plans, wrote them on the negotiation sheet, and then took them OUT of the deal during negotiations without telling me. They acted like they came down to my price, the manager shook my hand on the deal, but I only caught it after they were running my credit while I was chatting with the salesman and asked him Is there anything special I should know about the lease or service plans? Thats when he shared that theyd all been taken OUT by his manager. Out of principle I was pretty upset about that. They refused to add ANY of it back. They werent even willing to cover my oil changes for 3 years.I asked for my credit app back from them, left, and called Honda of Ames. They were able to get it to the monthly payment I needed. We drove two hours and Peter had everything ready to go when we got there! The follow up as been fantastic and I plan on purchasing a second vehicle from him shortly. Everyone we know, sees the dealer temp plate and asks us why we ended up going all the way to Ames and after hearing our story, Im sure they will be making the drive if they decide on Honda too.
Great experience. All parties involved were extremely professional. Even though we did not get to work with the salesman we planned, other sales personnel were quick to assist. Lindy was first to talk with us, Mike then continued the conversation. Both suggested the same vehicle. Brian Fox then took over and help us complete our purchase. He very willingly did everything we ask concerning financing. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing a used car.
I originally bought my car here, awesome place! Except instead of sending my information to one bank so they could do a credit check to see if the bank would loan to me, they sent it to 8 DIFFERENT banks and all 8 places did a Hard credit check!! Now my credit score is basically ruined when it was pretty much perfect! I never ever agreed to send it to all those banks nor did I agree to all the hard credit checks! Other than that issue, the guy who helped us was so nice, they helped in an ok time (we had to come back the next day to finish up). The only thing I would change is don’t send to info to MULTIPLE places if you know each one of them is gonna do a hard credit check and not tell me about it! I had to find out about my credit being hard checked BY MYSELF!!Other than that, this review was asked for because of an email that was sent because I recently went in for an oil change. That went awesome. I got there, the guy that helped me was so nice and sweet. Told me the estimated time it’d be done (30-45 minutes) and came back in 45 minutes with my car done. I told him I had a concern that the seat buckles weren’t in the backseat and he was more than happy to fix that for me. Over all, great shop they get you in and out when they say they will, and the shop staff are nice! Much more pleasant than my previous experience.
Excellent experience!!This was the best experience I have ever had at any dealership from start to finish. No pushing for something I didnt want and very friendly staff from sales, to financing and up to the management. Doug was easy to work with and did all he could to get me what I needed. Thanks Doug for selling us our first NEW car! We will definitely be back in the future!
After test driving cars at many locations around Des Moines for a year and a half, we chose to buy from Honda of Ames. A big part of this decision was that we enjoyed working with Steve because he listened carefully to our preferences and gave good advice. We never felt like he was just trying to make a sale, but that he valued us as customers and individuals. Everyone through the process was accommodating and helpful, and in the end we are extremely happy with the new CR-V and the service that we received.
Purchased a certified used 15 Honda Civic. Car salesman was very helpful and allowed me to test drive several models so I could make a decision I was comfortable with. Purchase process was painless and I was very satisfied with my experience. Would highly recommend this dealership if you are considering buying a Honda.
I bought a 2012 Honda Accord EX-L a few months ago from Honda Of Ames and its the best car Ive ever purchased. We had a bad experience buying another used car from another shop in Ames previously but even though the Accord was As Is the oil had been changed and the car was in excellent condition.
WE LOVE THIS PLACE!Yes, its true! You CAN have a great car-buying experience! Doug felt more like a coach or a mentor than a sales rep as he explained the various options and special features of the vehicles we were interested in. He also took time to help us understand the difference between leasing and buying, so we could decide which option was best for our family. We feel good about buying local, and we love our new CR-V! Thanks, Doug and the staff at Honda of Ames! Ray and Deb Anderson
Honda of Ames met the best price I could find, and that was a very good deal. I am very happy with the CR-V (after having it 5 days). It has many more bells and whistles than my 2005 CR-V had, and I will need to adapt my driving to them. Amazing car! Nice people at the dealership.
We previously had a very poor service experience with Smart Honda in Des Moines, even though that is the dealer we originally purchased the vehicle from. Our experience in Ames was great - the staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and seemed to be genuinely concerned about the issue we were having. They were even able to squeeze us in on a day that was completely booked because they knew we were going to be out of town. We will definitely be returning to the service department in Ames in the future if something else comes up.
Will be buying all my cars here. I live in West Des Moines and the service they provide is worth the drive. Felt like they cared about me and my experience, which I havent gotten at other dealerships. There was a significant delay when I picked up my new car, but they more than made up for the wait.
I always appreciate the top notch service I receive from Mel and his staff. The express shuttle service is a huge perk and the drivers are always timely and courteous. Also, I called a few places pricing my necessary service and part and Honda prices were fair and better than when factoring in the shuttle service.
Lindy made purchasing a car easy and without worry. This is normally a terrifying task for a first time buyer, but Lindy went above and beyond to make sure I understood all aspects of the buying process. He worked around my crazy schedule, even coming in on his day off because it fit MY schedule. He explained everything in laymans terms to me so I was able to fully understand what was happening at all times. Lindy made this such an enjoyable experience, Lindy has earned my business for life and I will be sending all my friends and family his way! Thanks Lindy!!!!
Bought vehicle and the follow up service to finalize everything has been very disappointing. They waited 3 weeks to pay off our trade in, 6 weeks it took to get a check for the sales tax so we could get license plates and tabs. Still have not received a check for the difference in what they financed our payoff was and what they actually paid the bank for the payoff which was a few hundred dollars.
So many things about our experience was bad. We spoke to one salesperson and told them what we wanted. Gave our phone number and email. No less than 3 vehicles matching our needs came through the dealership. No call or email. Went in and talked to a different person. Very pushy. 3 calls and 10 text messages about when we were coming back to sign papers. After paperwork was completed, papers signed and hands shake, he hands me ONE key. Says thats all the previous owner turned in. Says its only $50 for a new key. Talked to service they quoted $165. Asked to speak to manager, went into his office and he couldnt even bother to look up from his computer to talk to me. I told him I could wait until he was done. He said he was very busy and may not have time. I told him I just spent $17000 on a car he can give me one minute of his time. Promised to fix something on the car that was overlooked and give us another key. When I picked up the vehicle they didnt give me a new key with all the buttons on it. They called the previous owner and got the valet key. So they didnt actually do anything but make a phone call. This place really sucked and perpetuated the idea that buying a new car is awful. I dont recommend them to anyone. They got one star because the service people were nice.
Honda of Ames treated me like family. They worked with me to find a great deal. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Bill Smith was amazing, personable, helful, informative and great when problems came up! They had many options ready for me when I arrived because I called ahead. I got a great deal on a great vehicle!! Love my new Honda CR-V!! I enjoyed my experience and would recommend them to anyone!
Honda of Ames is a great local Honda service center. John, Issac and the rest of the service staff are personable and quick to respond to requests. My last service was an oil change and routine inspection, and it took a little longer than I was hoping, but thats probably because I came in just before Thanksgiving, and I know thats a busy time. Even when the business is really busy like this, the staff make time for each individual person. I also had a squeaky sound coming from my back tires when I went to leave, and they got that fixed quickly and at no additional cost. Thank you for your work!
Sales person listened to my needs. I was given a fair value for my very dated and worn trade in, and had a rapid, smooth, and professional paperwork experience to seal the deal. Was provided with what I needed, and not pressured to purchase what I did not. I will do business here again, and will recommend Honda of Ames to my friends/famiky.
The service preformed (oil change) was thorough and reasonably priced. The customer service was great. They were very accommodating when I came in with my 2 small children. I was offered a soft drink and shown the childrens play room (which was clean and supplied with a nice assortment of toys).
Took my van in as a trade-in. Everything was going well until they decided they couldnt finance me. Then things went screwy. I went to get my van and the license plate was missing, no floor mats, my driver window was down and wouldnt roll up. They treated my wife like she was interrupting something important and couldnt be bothered when she called about the license plates. I took that van to be serviced for 3 yrs and had no problem, No idea what happened, now.
Everyone was very positive. They did just what I asked them to do, and informed me of potential problems down the line. They were very informative and explained things really well. They also had a fantastic shuttle service, so I didnt have to ask a friend for a ride to get my car. I would definitely recommend Honda of Ames.
Everyone was very friendly, and the oil change took less time than I expected and was scheduled, which was awesome. When I got back to my car, they had rinsed off the outside, and there was a Tootsie Pop with a thank you note stuck in the air vents inside! A fun surprise :) I will be back.
Mike Gougherty is a great guy who is always looking out for his costumers! Every time I visit he’s quick to get me the help I need.
The older gentleman on the machanic side was very nice. But the African American sales man made us feel like we were wasting his time. I wanted to buy a vehicle there but it was just a total turn off it was like he didnt even want be there let alone work with us so we just left. We will not be returning!!
I had a great experience working with Rich Anderson and Jim Meadows at the Honda dealership in Ames Iowa! The entire staff were very friendly and helpful. Rich spent a lot of time with me answering my questions and showing me a number of auto options there. He also helped me weigh my options between purchasing or leasing and gave me a lot of information to help me understand which may be a better choice for me. Jim was also helpful in explaining things to me and assisting me in making my decision to lease a new Honda which has been great so far. They have also already followed up with me to see how I like the new vehicle and I havent been driving it for even a week yet. Very impressive as I have not had other dealerships I have worked with do such a good job. Thanks Honda of Ames!
Max from the service department was very helpful with my recall work. There was a recall we were not aware of and he was able to arrange to have it done as well. He called and said the back brakes were in poor shape and Honda was able to complete that work the same day.
Very Nice! Personnel were very helpful and we were able to arrange most of the details for trade in and lease of new vehicle ahead of time, via phone and email. This made it all go pretty quickly when we came in to pick up our new van.
I got a used car from these guys and there was wheel alignment issue which I did not observe during test drive. When I was heading back to Des Moines, I saw that there was wheel alignment issue and called them on the same day to report the issue. They said that they will take care of it and made me drive all way to Ames. After checking with service guys they said that I need to get it fixed on my own expense.
The experience was great however it took a day to take possession of the vehicle as it stopped running, but your staff made sure it was fixed before delivery. Our sales person Wade was excellent. Nice vehicle for the price and good customer service.
I had a great experience at Honda of Ames. This was by far the best car buying experience Ive ever had! Aaron was very upfront and honest with us. The last time I bought a car it took nearly a whole day. Aaron we very efficient with the paperwork. I will be recommending my friends go see him.
Great experience! Beautiful car, 2019 Red Altima Platinum at a great price!
Honda of Ames was an excellent place to buy a car! I am very pleased with the level of attention and selection of vehicles available to us as we made our decision. Our sales rep was outstanding to work with and not pushy or over-attentive in the least! I would highly recommend Pete DeJongh to anyone. He took the time to explain all of the options on the new vehicle and show us how they worked. My only negative was in how the financing worked out. We came prepared, and preapproved with our own financing, yet were talked into trying to get a better deal with the dealership’s own financing, through two other financial institutions. This ended up taking much longer than it should have, and neither of the other financial services were even able to approve us, much less beat the offer that we already had come with.
