We had a great time at Alluvial. It is next to Prairie Moon winery (we did not visit the winery), so nicely placed amid grape wines and corn fields. The tap room is lovely, a nice blend of barn and high art esthetic. We tried all the beer. Everything was nice for their category, the porter was sweet (which I like, but others may not) and the stout was not hoppy at all. I liked the lager and normally dont. The gorilla (beer milkshake) was actually gross and I almost spit it out. I tried a second sip just to be sure, and thats a whole lotta nope. They have tons of board games and outside seating (so family friendly), and an area for live music. This is a hidden gem of breweries.

Based on ratings and suggestions from a friend we headed over to Alluvial. Got there about 4pm on Wednesday when they opened to several others waiting so had high hopes. After waiting in line i ordered a flight of 5 tasters to sample the variety. This decision seemed to annoy the beer tender as he was very unfriendly and unhelpful but whatever we were here for beer.The venue is awesome and really deserves all the stars as the indoor and outdoor seating is ample with a very relaxing spot to enjoy the farmland views.The beer on the other hand was not our thing. Every style was over the top sweet and for us undrinkable. I dont remember the last time we got a sampler and didnt go get a full pour but this was the case today.To each their own but for us it is a hard no.

If the beer wasnt worth the drive Id rate it lower. Great atmosphere love the building and the beer is solid. All round hard pass. Drove an hour out of our way this time to stop for 15min with the family if youre a dad needing a beer and debating the stop.

Excellent verity of beers. Staff is unsurpassed; knowledgeable, fun, fast, engaging & professional. Beautiful building and grounds. Not a just a place to chug a beer, but a destination location. But no one would fault you for stopping by and throwing back a pint of their quality ales..... Enjoy!

Great atmosphere with a huge tasting room, the back room has a stage for entertainment. Had the Imperial Stout with PB and the Mango Cat Paw. It definitely holds its own compared to other hard seltzers!

I visited alluvial the other day with my family to try a flight. I enjoyed the beer although there were a few I could not try because of the lactose so that was a bit of a bummer. My favorite was the coffee beer. I really like the environment as it is full of artwork and plants and they also have a nice outdoor area. One of the best things about this brewery is all the board games they have to play. Also they sell seasoned popcorn which is delicious and I highly recommend trying while you are here. it looks like they also have a back room that you can rent for events. I would definitely come back.

Been here more times than I can count, but service has gone downhill. Bartender with the mustache must have his favorites because he has basically ignored us the last 2 times Ive been there, sitting at the bar ready to order. The beer is good but not good enough to overcome rude staff.

This brewery has everything going for it. Solid establishment with a great selection of 8 or more brews that are constantly rotating. The building and location are great. From the outside you get a farmhouse/Iowa vibe but on the inside, it is a very warm atmosphere reminiscent of the great Southwest United States. They offer cheap growlers for enjoying their brews at home.

I love taking a loop around Ada Hayden and then heading to Alluvial right after for a delicious and cold local beer in a great environment with friendly people and games! Its also a great place to bring your out-of-state friends for a taste of Iowa! :)

This place is always fantastic.They havent been open long, but they have pretty quickly become one of the best breweries in all of Iowa. Always a good selection and they change out brews and do interesting stuff all the time. Must hit spot in Ames.

One of the best breweries in central Iowa. Their beer is consistently excellent, and the taproom is one of the best places to hangout in town. During the summer they have food trucks and live music. If you like beer, and are in Ames, this is a must see.

One of my favorite Iowa microbreweries! Their menu ever changing..ability to try different brews, different flavors. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. Just celebrated 2-year anniversary. Stop by, tour the facility, try/enjoy their tasty beverages!!

One of the best Microbreweries in central Iowa if not in the state. The owners are wonderful people, very engaged, really support the community, arts, cycling and more. Run, dont walk, or cycle to this gem. Great people, beer and atmosphere. Blessed to have them here! Cheers!

Visited the tap room for the first time on 12/30/16. GREAT beer. Great people. Cool spot too. I will be back. Beer fans in Iowa must visit this place. I got a flight, a pint, and a growler to go.

Loved the building and winery next door. Not a big fan of some of the beers but willing to try again. It was very busy when we were there but the staff was great. Will have to go back and hopefully find a beer that I like.

Nice brewery on the north side of Ames. Rustic setting. No food in house most of the time, but food truck available when I was there. Beers were $5-6, and had a nice variety. About 12 or so on tap.

My favorite Iowa Brewery and in my top 10 overall. Aurox is liquid happiness and the have some IPAs that stand out from an overcrowded field.

I never had a problem with Alluvial before..until recently. Hostess kept ignoring me..I never got a beer, ended up walking out. This longtime customer wont be back. Service is TERRIBLE!!

My wife likes their Kombucha OK, but she says that the lady who works behind the bar is mean to her. Probably because its hard to understand whats spoken in the crowded environment. Regardless, be warned, they are not particularly patient with non-native English speakers.

Having recently returned to Ames I needed a place to meet up with an old friend.to catch up. We hit the jackpot here at Alluvial. I pulled in around 4pm, just ahead of a food truck. The gal pulled a couple of IPAs for us in some squatty but bulbous little glasses and we found us a place to sit. Unhurried inside we yucked it up for an hour or so until the interior filled up with folks and got kinda loud. We moved the party outside and quickly found a table among people waiting for the entertainers to begin under a small shelter tent. What a great place to enjoy a few excellent beers and hang out with the good people of Iowa.
