My step dad did some electrical work for this place. We got cupcakes in return. Frosting is not too sweet and just right. Cupcakes were very moist and not dry. I will be back to get more. 😋

It pains me to write this review because we LOVE their cupcakes and have NEVER had an issue. Owners and workers essentially know us and know our go to cupcakes because we frequently stop in for cupcakes.My amazing wife and kids went in to order a surprise birthday cake for me which was to be ready for pickup between 11am and noon on the morning of my birthday (1/26). My wife arrived shortly before noon and was told they just finished frosting it and to put it in the fridge immediately when getting home. When she got home the cake was ruined.My wife called but due to work schedule my wife was not able to go back to try and resolve the issue so after the surprise had already been ruined I offered to go back to handle the situation.Immediately upon seeing me the owners/workers apologized (as they recognized me as they always do) and upon seeing the cake they immediately said it was not fixable (which my wife and i knew to be the case). They offered a refund which I was happy about and I said instead of another cake i will just buy a few cupcakes. However, the refund and an apology was essentially the only resolution even though they were fully aware that this was now a ruined surprise that my kids wanted to get me that said happy Birthday Dad.On one hand you may think, we got a refund so no harm done but i disagree. If a customer orders a cake and it is scheduled to be picked up between a 1 hour span the cake should be ready for the customer to be taken home at that time. The cake should NOT be finished up in the latter half of the pickup hour. The cake was CLEARLY still too warm and should not have been given to any customer like that.In this situation I feel an apology, refund, and at least one or two free cupcakes (when I asked to buy 6 cupcakes after the cake they gave us) as a good faith offer would have been the minimum proper solution. Instead they simply gave me the 6 cupcakes I paid for on cardboard and wrote Happy Birthday Dad in frosting on the cardboard.UPDATE: 2/12/2021 - Apparently there are new owners and this change is fairly recent. While the new owner didnt have anything to do with the situation, they reached out as they were in transition at the time this happened. All i can say is OMG, the new owner Dr. Brown is great. He definitely understands what it means to value the customer. We had a great conversation and upon his request I went back in so he could look me in the eye and apologize in person for my surprise being ruined. While this was not of any fault to him, he felt bad and wanted to make it right. That right there would have been enough for me but he went above and beyond that. Needless to say knowing that Dr. Brown stands behind his business and is appreciative of his customers, I will definitely be coming back.

Oh my, I absolutely love this place. We got a coconut raspberry, birthday cake, pink vanilla, and red velvet. Fair prices, good service, and the best cupcakes in a 25 mile radius.

So many options, amazing bakery items. The kids love the place we always go after there haircut. They sell puppy cupcakes also.

On Tuesday it was my grandmas 75th birthday. In the morning it was snowing hard and I did not have time to pick up anything for her. I work in Algonquin and I am off at 6:45, small cakes closes at 7pm. I called and asked if there was any way I could place an order over the phone and come and pick it up after I got off? Not only did Houston say he would be happy to wait for me he also told me to drive safely and take my time. He made great recommendations for flavors. I love this business but Houston made this birthday celebration perfect.

My daughter had a Stranger Things themed party and we ordered custom cupcakes from here. These were not only the best tasting cupcakes but the cake decorator did a phenomenal job decorating the cupcakes with scenes from Stranger Things.

I consider myself a cupcake aficionado and Small Cakes is by far the absolute tastiest cupcakes I have ever had. Moist and delicious every mouth watering one I have tried, which is about all of them Lol .Always super friendly as well . I am hooked. Have not found any other cupcake that even comes close to the quality and deliciousness of Small Cakes. Celebrating a birthday at work today so I stopped again last night for a big selection. She never disappoints.

This place has only been open for a short while. Its rather disheveled. They dont have many of the features of the Hoffman Estates location. I didnt see daily specials, pupcakes, no punch cards. The people who I assume own the place appear to be better suited to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts. Take that any way youd like. The facts are the facts, dont mistake the truth for something its not. Ill check it out again after theyve been open for a few months and had proper time to get acclimated to the business.

Poor Customer Service- My daughter and her friend went to this bakery several times. This time however, was a different story. I normally would not leave a review for this type of issue because I get stuff happens and critters are everywhere but the response from the owner of the Algonquin location (to her friend, who purchased them as a gift to my daughter) was far from acceptable. Asking for picture evidence, of which we had, and then denying it was a bug, to telling her friend that she needed to come in and talk to them, suggesting all they wanted is money. How about we are returning customers and wanted to notify you of a problem. I know I am probably coming across as that parent but too bad. I was by her when she was enjoying her cupcake and then stopped and asked me while showing me her spoon if this was a bug. After looking at it under better light, it indeed was a bug. From my experience it appears to be a worm that you will sometimes find in flour. Told my daughter no big deal sometimes you will get worms in flour, just throw it away. You just lost them as customers and you have lost the potential of my business as well (you got good review from my co-worker, who also is frequent customer, which by the way will hear my experience now too). Imagine what a little customer service would have done....

I love Small Cakes! We go there for treats regularly! The cupcakes are delicious and they even have a gluten free option that is amazing! My boys love the homemade ice cream as well. I have had such great experiences with Small Cakes that I decided to use them for a baseball team party and the owner was so helpful and accommodating, that I used them again for my sons birthday party and teachers gifts! Definite must try!!!

This is a very kid friendly place to eat!The cupcakes are decidedly rich. No kid will be able to turn one down!The staff seemed nice but we didnt have much of an interaction. I was pretty happy with this place. Staff was friendly, and cupcakes were super tasty. I completely disagree with a previous reviewers insult that the owners were better suited to running a 7/11 or Dunking Donuts. the cupcakes were reasonably priced and look gorgeous. My only issue was that the frosting was a bit too sweet, and theres a bit too much of it for how light and fluffy the actual cupcakes were. Will definitely visit again.I need to add an edit to this review, because I just tried the Decadent Chocolate one I brought home. I am super picky about chocolate cakes, to the point I generally dont like them. This cupcake was phenomenal! The fudge frosting was amazing, and the cake was moist and light. I wish I wouldve bought more than one of these!

I bought a few cupcakes there today to try them out before making a decision which ones to buy for my sons b-day and I have to say they were ALL so delicious! The cupcake s by itself were so moist and fresh and the frostings amazing although a little on a sweet side. My favorite by far was Red Velvet with the cream cheese frosting.. Definitely will be back for more.

My first visit to Small Cakes was awesome! Owner was very nice and friendly! The Red Velvet Cupcakes on Valentines Day were delicious! I will be going back! I highly recommend Small Cakes! Everybody should ignore that comment from the idiot who referred to the owners as better suited to running a 7/11. The owners are fantastic!

Called small cakes because I knew that they made cakes (and cupcakes!) for dogs. The lady on the phone was so nice and helped me pick the best size. When I picked it up I was so shocked at how beautiful it was! Of course my dogs loved their treat too. Thank you!!

I went to get ice cream . I had mocha caramel it was great. My son got cokies and cream it was way to sweet. Lady said it was around 6 70 for two of them then in a moment she said 7 for two? If one scoop is 299 then how come two are 7??Cupcake itself was moist but frosting tasted as they got it out of plastic container from the store. Not worth the money at all.if I am going to pay 320 per cupcake I want to have amazing flavor not throw it out in the garbage

Love getting Smallcake Smash, here. Gourmet ice cream and cupcakes! Quality is always good. Tasty. Flavorful. But... They are expensive (e.g; $30+ dollars for four cups of ice cream and 4 cupcakes.). Plus, they dont allow tipping for the server (maybe only this location?). :(

I came in with my daughter less than 10 minutes to close. I expected dirty looks and sighs. We were instantly greeted with a huge smile instead! My daughter and I enjoyed the best wedding cupcake weve ever had. Mothers Day I decided to buy some more as gifts. My family agrees these are the best cupcakes and we will continue to come here for future outings and holidays!

Went there at 4pm on a Saturday for some gluten-free cupcakes since I am gluten intolerant. They only had six of them. The old lady in front of me blatantly bought all six, while I had been talking about them in line the entire time, and asked if they had more only to find that they did not. Extremely disappointed and upset since it does not say first come first serve (or anything similar) on their advertisement for gluten-free options. I am completely willing to change/update my review once I dont have such a poor experience.

We just love love love the cupcakes here. I have given the cupcakes to friends who also have loved them. They are so moist and light and the frosting is so yummy. My favorite is the Peanut butter but they are all delicious. After reading the review about the Decadent Chocolate I cant wait to go tomorrow and try it. When we have travelled around the country in the past years we always map out the cupcake shops as it has been the craze but never had one close by. Was so happy when Smallcakes opened up. The owners Jayana and her husband are so sweet. I had a baby shower a couple weeks ago with an elephant theme. Jayana made the most adorable elephant faces with the frosting. They were a big hit. If you havent been there GO!! They have so many fun flavors. Something for everyone.

Ive been to other locations that are amazing but this is not one of them. It has to be without a doubt the worst ran and operated location Ive ever seen. The owner has no clue about the special flavors other locations do and was ignorant enough to think that the cocktail flavored ones could only be made if her entire staff was over 21. Almost every cupcake Ive gotten from there has been stale and they are the worst with telling you allergens. I told them I had a peanut and almond allergy and even checked twice to make sure the ones I was getting didnt have any. Sure enough after eating them I was in for a horrible couple days because one had peanut butter and one of the others almonds. Ive also discovered that the flavors I have no problems with from other locations make me sick when I get them here. Which makes me think that they definitely dont prioritize cleanliness. Save your money and just go to the grocery store or go to another location because this one is highly disappointing and youll probably end up sick or worse, because I cant imagine if someones allergies were more severe than mine.
