***UPDATE***I called the shop to express my disappointment in the prices and the fact that pricing was never discussed with me before the work was completed on my car. I spoke with Joey, the manager, and he was INCREDIBLY NICE! He actually REFUNDED me money for the miscommunication, which is unheard of. I will be speaking to Joey directly from now on if I ever need anything done on my car. Thanks Joey for being so understanding and for actually rectifying the situation, much appreciated!!!(see original review below)“I have to say that when I picked up my car this afternoon, I was APPALLED at the bill. I needed my front and rear brakes replaced (which I knew would run me around $500-700). That isn’t the issue. The issue is the cost of labor that Yates charged. My labor charges were $617, almost as much as the brakes!! I was so surprised that I asked what they charge hourly for labor, and the guy told me about $170/hour ($190 with tax). On average, labor charges run $80-100 per hour, so obviously, they are WAY overcharging people for labor.Did Yates do great work? Sure. Are they nice guys? Of course. But I will not bring my car back here for services when it would be cheaper to bring my car to the dealership.”
This morning, Dwayne greeted us and asked if he could help. We needed air in one of my tires. He said hed check all four tires. Dwayne is always friendly and professional. He got right to it and we were on our way. Thank you Dwayne! I appreciate you.
Hi Joey and all Yates professionalsThank you for servicing my car.I feel confident driving it knowing that it has been checked and repaired at Yates.Everyone at Yates has been helpful, informative and kind.I also appreciated the ride you provided to return me to the station to get my car.Thank You...Nancy Boylan
My 2010 RX350 had an oil coolant line rupture out of nowhere. This major repair took Yates less than 24 hours. The only downside was that the mechanic forgot to reconnect the A/C condenser line. But they fixed it within a couple hours the following morning, and communications were very clear at every step. Very impressed by this shop’s professionalism and speed.
We were on a road trip from MA to VA and noticed a strange noise so we stopped to have the car looked at @ Yates and we couldn’t have had better service. The owner and staff were all so kind and helpful. I would highly highly recommend Yates to anyone in VA. Really exceptional service.
Seemingly good customer service, but very poor communication on updating me on the status of my repair. Repair quotes are not itemized and are over priced. Following an egregiously over priced engine diagnostic, I took my vehicle to the dealer and was saved from being stiffed price gouging. They even recommended repairs that were not necessary. I would not recommend them for serious vehicle repair.
I went to Yates for a safety inspection and my vehicle failed inspection for the first time ever. I was suspicious of the things they were telling me as the reasons for the rejection and was quoted over $2,000 to fix it all. I brought my vehicle to an auto shop I’ve used in the past and was quoted significantly less ($300) with only 1 of the issues they mentioned. I feel sorry for anyone who uses these guys and gets taken advantage of. Embarrassing.
Every time I am there I feel like they taken care of my and my car. The service was fast and excellent
Yates is top notch. I would trust them with any repair. Very professional and personable. Great customer service. I am only a few blocks away so they are super convenient. May not be the cheapest but they do quality work and are committed to the community. They deserve your business.
Update!!!Yates reached out to me and completely blew my mind. Joey the General Manager called and asked me to explain the situation. He actually listened to what I had to say and then he surprised me by asking how much the dealership charged and when I told him he REFUNDED THE DIFFERENCE!!!! That is unheard of. I have never had a business actually listen to me and take action, I am completely impressed and I had to come back and update my review. I will be sending all my friends, relatives, and strangers to Yates. A lot of us are struggling during this time and spending that amount of money on just diagnosing the problem was a pretty significant financial hit for me.It is sad to say but not many businesses go out of their way to treat their customers as if they matter so to the Yates family all I have to say is action speaks louder than words, YOU HAVE A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!!!! And Joey thank you for listening. For the readers out there no one asked me to write this update. I believe in fairness and I was quick to complain so it is only fair that I am just as quick to give kudos and thanks when deserved.Original PostIt would have been cheaper to go to the dealership. I paid $375 just to diagnose what was wrong, that amount does not include ANY repair work. The dealership charges a flat rate to diagnose but Yates charges per hour and as you can imagine they will NEVER diagnose your problem in one hour. So my advice is to go to your dealership, you will save money.
I was looking to get an interior detail for my van, and Aaron at Yates did an incredible job. It was easy to book online, pricing was very reasonable and everyone I spoke with was on point from a customer service perspective. They even washed the outside at no charge because I had to wait a bit for someone to come back from lunch. Hard to find that kind of consideration, and I really appreciated that along with the fact the van looks new inside! Highly recommend!
They do good work here and the employees are very nice, but its expensive and I always have a small issue every time. Once it was being charged far more than quoted when picking up my car (had to call a manager who did reduce the price enough), forgetting the tire rotation the first time, not putting an inspection sticker on my car resulting in a ticket, etc. These little things add up overtime. No shop is perfect and gets it all right every time, but its different when you feel like you need to be extra vigilant every time you pick up your car.
Dropped in for a VA car inspection. Well staffed, knowledgeable, and professional. The service was quick and comprehensive. A relatively routine service, though the experience was such that I will certainly do business with them again. Well done.
The work was done on a very high-end sports car, at a fraction of the price the dealer would have charged. These guys are amazing.
I had an appointment today that Yates confirmed to replace two tires. I show up at my appointment time and find that they have no technicians in today. Not the front desk guys fault. He was fine. Management needs to address this colossal waste of my time.Ive gone to Yates for several years for most all other work and it was great.this is beyond ridiculous.
Got a flat tire. Dropped it off on Wednesday, they fixed it Thursday before 5. $300 is reasonable. Glad they didn’t try to sell me on a second tire (the car is new, other tires not worn). I would go back here again.
Excellent customer service ! Prices are a bit high but based on the quality of service, its worth it.
Yates is a reliable but expensive auto repair shop. They are banking on clean, good service in a nearby location and arent too focused on competing with chains or even your dealership on price. Fair.
The team at Yates were professional in explaining the repair options for my vehicle and completed the necessary work in a way that met my own schedule constraints. I will be sure to use the professionals at Yates for my future automotive needs!
This auto shop embodies the sleazy mechanic places that recommend frivolous fixes at exorbitant rates. I took my girlfriends 2006 Honda Accord here for a routine VA vehicle inspection. I purchased this vehicle for her a year prior, so I assumed there would be no issues with the inspection. Yates Automotive informed me that there were several issues with the vehicle and failed the car. I was immediately suspicious and demanded to have someone show me in person the fixes they claimed the car needed to pass inspection. They pointed to a slight fray on the windshield wiper tip, an issue with the e-brake that I pointed out worked fine, a warning light for the air bag that neither of us remember seeing, and tearing underneath the front bumper (that they claimed would need to be replaced of course). But the grand finale was that they said the vehicle needed new engine mounts to the tune of ~$1400. Keep in mind, this car is worth about 3k. In total, Yates wanted at least 2 grand for all these fixes.I told them they could pound sand and the manager tried to bs me with a long story about how all of these charges were legitimate. We took the vehicle to another auto mechanic in Springfield who corroborated my assessment and offered to fix the mounts for a fraction of the cost.I can only assume this place thrives on a steady stream of wealthy Alexandrians who know the family and/or are not price sensitive. Yates is a scam.
I rolled in at 4:59 PM this afternoon and the technicians at Yates happily fixed my car’s issue in 5 minutes. Always great customer service. Thank you!
Just would like to echo other reviews about my experience with a state inspection here. Brought my vehicle in for an oil change and state inspection this weekend. Was told they were failing me for the inspection but could do the repairs they deemed necessary for over $1000. I just took it somewhere else and passed without any needed repairs and was told that it seemed like Yates was ripping me off. Would not recommend getting an inspection here. Not to mention I felt like the tone of the staff switched from very friendly to dismissive once I declined having them do the unnecessary work on my vehicle.
Went in for an oil change knowing it might be a little on the high side for it, but was completely taken aback on 170 dollars for full synthetic oil change. I didnt know it was going to be that high, or I would of said no thank you. I admit, I didnt ask how much it would be before hand, but you would think they would have the options listed along with the posted price of each one. At least Jiffy Lube shows you the priced of the services BEFORE doing the work. Like I said, I am partly to blame for not asking, but you would think somewhere they would have posted prices.
Came in with a quickly needed inspection, and while I know my situation is rare, they treated me with respect and speediness. Their work was excellently thoroughly and knowledgeable, I can’t say enough good things about them and my experience.
Went in for a leaking tire and realized we had a cracked rim. While the news stunk, they handled it quickly and got the job done on budget and under time. They also were very friendly with my dog, which is a huge bonus!
Terrific service - top quality work at a fair price. Ver friendly and professional. A pleasure to work with.
Best customer services, friendly and does great work!
Great service and nice environment
Good work and very attentive people.
Wonderful! Professional amd keep you updated with text reminders!
Brought my Mazda here to get inspected and was told it failed because the horn was not working and the power steering pressure line was leaking. They said they would charge $190 to diagnose why the horn wasn’t working and $880 to fix the power steering pressure like. I went to auto zone and switched out the fuse for $3 and the horn now works fine. Brought my car to another mechanic who said that the power steering pressure line was barely leaking, didn’t need to be replaced, was common in most Mazda cars, and should never have failed inspection because of the leak. Saved myself nearly $1000 not going with Yates automotive to do the repairs. I will never bring my car back to them for and inspection or any repairs. Their prices (including gas) are extremely high and based off my experience are very dishonest.
To whom it may concern,I took my 2005 Ford F-150 in for an AC inspection and to do a general check up of the vehicle. They were extremely accommodating and able to complete the inspection, give an estimate, and complete the work within 24hrs. They were extremely professional at all times and priced me fairly. No games were played at all and no attempts to add things to work on that were not needed. They have earned my respect and continued loyalty from this point on. Thank you very much to Kris and the while team at Yates Automotive.
I like this shop and the family that runs it. They’re always professional and kind. I can’t help but feel slightly taken advantage of with my previous 2 encounters. Nearly $600 for a new battery and $110 for an oil change just seems too unrealistically expensive. AAA would replace and install the battery for $160. I’m sad to say I will have to use another shop in the future solely on price point.
Im sure they do great work, but if youre on a budget or dont like spending as much money on car repairs as you can, go elsewhere. They tried to charge me nearly twice as much on a transmission repair as I was able to get elsewhere. I had to talk them down on the diagnostic fee, since I wasnt going to get the work done there, so they were at least generous enough with that. Also they left a light on in the car which drained the battery, so when they had called me to let me know it was done, the next day when I picked it up, it wouldnt start and I had to wait a couple of more hours until they could figure out what was wrong with it.
Professional and very helpful. Will continue to use going forward.Full disclosure I’m updating a previous review- the team here worked with me to resolve the original issue and I ultimately landed in a better spot than ever expected.
Alonzo is the best mechanic I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Took really good care of me and provided awesome customer service!!
Really fast service that’s affordable
Outside of a DealershipThese guys are a very goodRepair shop.
I do not recommend Yates Automotive despite their friendly staff. My car failed inspection at Yates Automotive and I was quoted $1400 for making what were deemed necessary changes for it to pass inspection, including my brakes and both headlights. So, I took it to another mechanic who was able to fix my brakes for $180. I used another mechanic in the local area for the inspection. The car passed and the inspector confirmed there was nothing wrong with our headlights.
Nice clean professional... And then you get the labor charge. Window regulator...230. Labor 499. It didnt take them more than couple hours. Avoid if u can.
This is my favorite local shop for day to day type of work. While I take my european cars to specialty shops, I bring my truck here and get my inspections done here as well. I always recommend Yates to people looking for a shop. It also helps they are close to Als Steaks and metro!
If $125 for an oil change sounds reasonable, this is your place. If you think the correct response after commenting that it’s the most expensive oil change I’ve ever had is, “well ma’am we’ve probably looked more closely at your vehicle then anyone else has”, this is your place. I asked for an oil change. I have a current model SUV that has remained updated on maintenance via the dealer up until today’s mistake. Will not repeat paying a premium for you to tell me to replace my windshield wiper that leaves a tiny streak for 5 seconds before it evaporates or to rotate my tires that were installed and rotated only a few months ago. I also didn’t welcome the attitude that came along with it. Will not be back.
Picked up my car right on time for an emissions inspection. Everything was complete and they returned it right to my house. I was able to pay over the phone. Extremely easy and convenient. I tried to tip them for the great service, but they refused. Thanks again for the great service.
I rarely right reviews but hopefully this may help. So first for the good. Yates was extremely professional, their establishment was well kept, and they were very prompt. I needed an oil change and my tires rotated, pretty standard service. I chose Yates because I moved into the area from Falls Church and I didnt need an appointment. They were able to get me in and complete this within a little over 2 hours. So this was the good. The BAD, as with many other reviews, was they are WAY over priced. $140 for an oil change and tire rotation?? Due to previous reviews, I was expecting to pay a little more, but WOW. I used a reputable garage in Falls Church for almost half as much, the only downside was that I needed to make an appointment. However for almost $70 less I can make an appointment and be done in an hour or less.I was almost willing to accept the price in that other reviews stated that they washed and vacuumed their car.....and it even says on the bill that it included a complimentary wash and vacuum. Needless to say No wash and No vacuum. In fact it took a few days to get the solvent smell out of my car.In sum, good people, good place, but way way overpriced.
Excellent personal, attentive service
My partner came here to get a safety check. The car failed and they told us it would be 4000 to fix everything so it could pass. We decided to get a second opinion because it seemed exessive. Took the car to another place and it passed without any repairs needed. After the fact, my neighbors said that yates is known for that and to beware. Take this info and do as you wish. Never going there again.Edit: Thank you Joey for reaching out. My partner will be contacting you.
Super service, they even gave my truck a good cleaning before I came to pick it upEveryone there was very personable and fair rates.
***Yates Automotive*** is THE PLACE to take your car for service. There are many...a plethora... of decent auto repair shops in greater Alexandria, such as Georgetown Auto Service on E. Raymond Ave and Automotive Service Garage on N. Fayette Street but YATES AUTOMOTIVE is unsurpassed in customer service, quality work, and fair prices. Ive been a customer of each auto shop listed above and I cant recommend Yates enough! There was a discrepancy of charges during my last visit for an interior cleaning. A miscommunication resulted in me getting charged more than I agreed to. I brought up the issue to the customer service team and the response from Yates was exceptionally courteous, professional, timely, and the team worked so hard to correct the discrepancy to ensure I was happy. Jason Yates even treated me to dinner!!! This area is so populated but they make sure to treat all customers like family. Sometimes, Im a stickler. I can be THAT GUY. I dont usually leave reviews, but the Yates team deserves well above 5-stars. I WILL be returning for all my future automotive needs, and I hope these words will convince others doing some online-shopping for car service.
Yates did a fantastic repair, job on my 1985 European collector car, keeping me informed every at every step. There are many people I would not trust to work on this car and your folks were honest about the challenge it presented. They took the time needed for repairs and getting parts, as parts for this car are not always easy to find. As a result the car drives beautifully. The final touch was the exceptionally good washing at the end. The person who washed the car really knew what they were doing, as car has not looked that good in years. What a wonderful surprise. I will go back for detailing.
They provide top notch service, for a price. It will be hard to beat their customer service, but they are pricey, even for Northern VA standards. I went in for a vehicle inspection and needed some work done to pass. Their quote was outrageous. However, they washed my truck, we super polite, and didnt turn rude when I said that I was going to do the work myself. They have clean facilities and from what I hear, do quality work.
Got my state inspection and emissions test completed in no time! Great service.
I went to 6 different places to get help with putting on a spare tire and no one would help me. I went to Yates and they helped me out. The guys there are so nice and super friendly. I was so upset and frustrated but they go me in and out quickly. I recommend them and I definitely will be back. Thanks guys for all the help.
Yates Automotive has the most friendly & reliable staff. There were many times they wouldnt even charge me for some oil. They are also very honest. Tell them I recommend you! Hope you get taken care of by Numan or Kris.... they rock!!!
I made a last-minute appointment for an oil change quickly and easily (huge plus!). Everyone I interacted with from the time I made the appointment through when I picked up my vehicle was kind and professional. The only reason I had to drop one star was that no one asked what kind of oil should be used in my vehicle and so they first used the wrong type of oil. However, they fixed it immediately once I realized the mistake and did it at no extra charge to me. Despite the mistake, I will likely still return to Yates next time my vehicle needs to be serviced!
This is second time in 6 months that I went there to change my oil and they keep doing the old bait and switch again and again ...once your in the bay they up sell you on the oil weight to synthetic...saying there out of conventional oil ...REALLY your a MOBILE 1 dealer and your out!!!!?What a bunch of simple donkeys! The Yates family /old man/ sons need to step in clean house of the dishonesty / rip off job. Went there for 18 years ...done! I did not mind paying the extra ...but now there is no value added.
Great auto shop! They may be a little more expensive, but always well worth it. First time quality work. Honest, fair, and very accommodating. Very friendly customer service and super convenient location. Five stars! !!!!!
Amazing service!! I am new to the area and my car finally gave out after many years. They were amazingly helpful in the diagnosis and what to do after. I will definitely bring my new car back to them and was so pleased to find my auto shop making Alexandria feel more like home! Thank you!!!
My car was serviced at Yates automotive on Saturday. I received superior customer service from entry to exit. The staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and hospitable (as I waited for my vehicle.) This was the best and fastest car repair service that I have ever had.
Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Both the office and work areas were tidy. They even took me to and from my apartment while I waited on my service.
$300 for oil change, tire rotation & alignment. Very friendly service while they empty your wallet with a polite smile. $60 for the tire rotation, $150 for alignment they had failed to achieve and $65 for regular oil change + $17 shop supplies. Learned my lesson.Next day update: got a call from the shop manager, who I guess, must have seen my review. He invited me to bring the car back for a second chance to at least improve the alignment that didnt really happen for my $150. I give the management props for stepping in and trying to make things right. They did manage to improve the alignment and even topped off my gas and washed the car. The manager showed that his shop clearly cared about customer satisfaction and I really respect that. While I wont be taking my car there for oil changes and tire rotations, I might give them another chance if a more serious repair is needed. Will just be cautious about their estimates and ask about pricing upfront.
My engine coolant light kept going off so I thought it best to have someone take a look. Jon was excellent in walking me through how to check my coolant level, and what to look for to protect my vehicle from any serious damage. He topped me off free of charge and was extremely kind. I’ll be returning in the future!
Called twice to ask questions about getting my car inspected and both time the phone was answered almost immediately and the men that answered were very nice and extremely knowledgeable. I asked about getting my headlights replaced and the mechanic was extremely knowledgeable and upfront about the possible complications. They said they will take a look and call me with a quote. I’ll update my post when I get the quote. So far very happy with my experience. :)
I just moved here from Florida. Needless to say I was unprepared of all the requirements of inspections and requirements and taxes. Numan, and other associates have been the most helpful in helping me get everything together, and keep my Mazda 3 in good shape! I am so grateful to have a great neighborhood shop that I can trust!
2nd time going to Yates. I moved here in May and it’s never fun to try and find a reliable mechanic. Look no further, this team is amazing! Friendly, knowledgeable and talked me though everything to help me understand. I trust this team completely. Thank you for all you do.
Great experience. The called me to let me know what needed to be done and were very timely. They called me again to let me know when my car was ready. I feel confident about the service and feel I can trust them with my car. My dealer stopped servicing my brand of cars so I am very glad to have found Yates to help me with all the routine maintenance and fixes as needed. Their hours are so great that I can drop the car off very early and pick it up late with no problem. Thanks!
No, they arent the cheapest auto shop in town. Its their honest approach and neighborly attitude that keeps us coming back even after we moved a little further away. Their service is the best around, and they go above and beyond to deliver pragmatic solutions when you inevitably need a repair. They keep our old Toyota running like new.
This is my first time going to Yates automotive. My car is relatively new and hasnt had many issues so I thankfully havent needed a mechanic in a few years. I think I can safely say that from now on my oil changes and inspections will be going entirely to Yates automotive. When I left home yesterday to go get my safety inspection done and I was expecting nothing short of misery. the last time I did my inspection I had to sit outside for I think 2 hours in the hot sun waiting for my car to be finished. when I arrived at Yates there was a clean while dressed person ready to help and take my keys. He was nervous to tell me that it would be an hour-and-a-half wait. I think that is perfectly reasonable considering its the end of the month and cars have already been dropped off. Nonetheless he did his best to get my car out as quickly as possible. After handing my keys to a mechanic named Dwayne, I asked if there was some where that I could go sit maybe a coffee shop or something. He said he thought that there was one a couple blocks down. Dwayne then offered to drive me to the coffee shop. He actually insisted on driving me to the coffee shop. He was so incredibly nice I actually felt like the shop was happy to have me there which is a feeling I have never had at a mechanic shop. The coffee shop they recommended was fantastic and I was even able to get breakfast. When my car is ready there is absolutely no wait just went in and picked up the keys right away no issue with the safety inspection thankfully.really just fully blown away Ive never been to a clean mechanic shop where people were nice and friendly and everything real quickly smoothly. after leaving I was honestly in a better mood than when I arrived which is totally bizarre for a visit that was just to do a safety inspection.
Ive been going to Yates for several years now, and the vast majority of the time Ive had really great experiences, theyve been fast, communicative, and helpful in getting quality work done.On the one occasion I had an issue, and one of the repairs didnt turn out perfectly, they did a great job of following up and making things right, so you can go here knowing that they stand by the work they do.Ill definitely be back.
Very efficient and good customer service.
I called to set up an appointment for oil change and brake light fix. They fixed up my taillight in
Great experience. Brought our minivan in for its 60,000 mile regular maintenance (apparently you dont have to take it to the dealership for that stuff) and they were able to tell me the price and what would be included. They were very nice and informative and took their time with me. Called around 3pm to make sure it would be ready by 6pm. They confirmed it would, recommended changing the filters, gave the okay for that work and the car was ready and waiting for me when I picked it. All around, easy experience and got one more thing checked off my to-do list.
Such a great business! I came in with my toddler on a frigid day because I just couldnt reach the inside of my brake lights to change the bulb. The gentleman at the front desk immediately grabbed my bulbs, dashed to the parking lot and changed them both for me. No hesitation. No charge. No hassle. The woman at the front desk made small talk with my toddler and I while we stayed warm inside. Such charming employees! Im so pleased. Between this and their giving back to the community (2 Cents Program gives to nonprofits all over Alexandria), Ill definitely bring my business here in the future.
I really like this shop. The customer service is top notch and the work speaks for itself. They are accountable, service oriented, fair, and make every effort to make your experience convenient and worry free. Theyve stayed late for me, apologized for things that were inconvenient and gave accurate timeframes that managed expectations, and made accommodations that made life better when my car was indisposed. Its not the cheapest shop but I trust their work and thats worth something other than money. Locally owned, with integrity.
Great service, they answer all your questions, honest on whether something needs to get done vs something you may have time to get done.Yes, the price of the work they do is a little up there, i do feel because they are thorough it’s worth it.
I needed air in my tires. Immediately came to my car, took care of it and I was on my way. Thank you Mr. Dwayne Reed!
I can’t be more happy with this experience. The staff is extraordinarily awesome. Family owned and local which is amazing. Will most definitely be a repeat customer for future needs. Thank you so much for honest, quality, and quick service.
I was a regular ASG customer and loved it. It was then bought by Yates, and I believe the integrity of the business suffered as a result. I recently brought my car in for a safety inspection, and they listed over $1,000 worth of repairs that would need to be done in order for my vehicle to pass inspection. This was very surprising since I wouldnt have brought my car in in the first place if not for the required inspection. I called my brother, who is a mechanic, and he recommended I get a second opinion. I did, and several of the needed repairs were not needed at all. I believe they were just trying to run up a bill on me because I need the annual inspection.
I went to get my inspection and they rejected the car for a supposed broken fog light. They then told me that they would charge me 75$ for a new one. I left and got charged 20$. When I went home I locked under the car and the lamp was just disconnected it I simply pushed it in and it worked perfectly. They obviously are trying to take advantage of the customer. I have been going there for 4 years now but no more. Be careful to not get taken by this dishonest business.
First Class ! Went in for a basic oil change/service and received a freshly washed, clean vehicle at no additional cost; totally unexpected. Extremely personable service. Ill never go anywhere else.
I had a flat late in the evening. Their tire guy wasnt available and they were about to close. But Jon who was working behind the desk in his dress shirt took a look at my tire...and he got his dress shirt dirty just to fix my tire so I could get home! Beyond great customer service! They were awesome! Thx, Jon and Yates!
This review is long overdue. I moved to Alexandria almost 2 years ago as I continue my formation to the priesthood. Of course, you want to find a trusting automotive service when relocating and as a student, I also needed something “financially friendly”. Yates is it! My loyalty is here and it is truly due to the radical hospitality and professionalism of this staff and crew. Thank you for your service and a special thanks goes out to Joe who assisted me this morning!
Wow, best customer service I’ve had in a really long time! I would never expect this from a auto place. The owner greeted me with a smile and “how can I help” as soon as I pulled up. The staff was friendly and seemed super happy to be there. I always say, ‘you can tell how a place is run by how happy the staff is’. From my understanding, Yates is family owned and operated... the amount of care and extra customer service goes a long way in my book. I never thought I would have a favorite auto place. Lol!
I went in to merely patch a tire. My bill was $60, $42 of that was labor. Lesson learned, I will not be returning. I see a lot of reviews that say “yes they’re expensive but very nice and friendly”. I’m sorry but I come from a background where I expect good customer service and a fair and reasonable price, so I can’t get behind other customers justifying friendly customer service at the cost of being ripped off...
I stopped in on a Friday late afternoon when my check engine light came on. They helped and got me on my way quickly. Highly recommend!
They did my state inspection in no time -- friendly, helpful and to the point - took 30 minutes.
Truly a honest person who believes in making sure your car choice is a right fit for you. He will weigh pros and cons of vehicles and suggest other options until you find, discover, or settle on your truths. Ex. My story... 2001- New job needed a car. It was my 1st car purchase but wasnt my 1st car. Was advised to check Yates Automotive. Saw some cars... Ok... He offered me a car with very low mileage for its year. I saw the car and was like, ok... He noticed I willing to buy the car but wasnt excited about it. We talked a few mintues about what Im looking for from a car and he told me the car will be ready in two weeks come back. 9/11 happened... Five weeks later the car is finally ready. I go pick up the car...OMG!! The car now has a sunroof and new radio. I was excited to own this car that I drove for 13 years until it went to car heaven... 2014 He repeated the same thing... Wow! It is an experience to buy from Yates Automotive.
Yates Automotive is the kind of garage one fears when it comes time for a state inspection. I took my three year old vehicle into the garage for several routine services. I was surprised when one of the staff members called to inform me the vehicle was rejected and needed several repairs totaling over $980. I took the vehicle elsewhere and it passed without further incident. Save yourself the trip. Take your vehicles to another garage.
Today this morning was crazy my tired popped and my space was also popped. Lucky for me they where able to fix my space and get me going on the road again. When I asked how much it was going to cost they said no charge and told me Merry Christmas. Small gesture like these go a long way. Thanks to those guys and Alex for fixing my tire right away. Theyre 100% solid guys with a purpose for helping those in need. Thanks Yates Automotive!
One of the best experiences at an automotive shop Ive ever had. The staff was very courteous and answered all my questions about car inspections when I called them. They did everything that I needed for my inspection with an added bonus of washing and vacuuming my car (Ive never had that done before for a car inspection). Jessica was very professional and welcoming when I dropped my car off in the morning and Joe was courteous when I picked my car up later that day. When I needed help changing my plates later that week, Joe (another worker) immediately came RUNNING out of the shop and took my new plates and changed them for me. I had the pleasure of also meeting Ken, the manager of the store who was extremely courteous and friendly. Everyone here is great at what they do and they seem to really enjoy where they work. I highly recommend this place!
While staying in Alexandria, I had a flat tire. Yates automotive went above and beyond to take care of me and my family. Duane even gave me a ride back to my hotel so I could take care of the tire. Deal with this local company.
Surprised at all the good reviews here. When I tried calling to approach them about an estimate I was told that even though my car had been diagnosed already they needed to see it themselves before giving me an estimate. They failed to mention they charge a $90 diagnostic fee until I was there in person. I would not recommend.
I used to own a VW. Anyone who has owned a VW knows the unending pain of repairs. The last time it broke for good, I took it to Yates. This was the first time I had used Yates. It was the coldest part of December 2017, a freezing 18 degrees out there. I had exhaust coming in through the vents. I tried to keep the windows down to lessen the carbon monoxide poisoning, but I couldn’t see out the front windshield. I know. Right? Anyway, they looked for the leak but couldn’t find it for sure. So they didn’t charge me anything. Luckily, I came into enough of an inheritance to put money down on a new car within that same week. And I take it to Yates religiously. A Honda, so basically it’s maintanence once a year.Duane from Yates drops me off at home, they let me pay over the phone, and then deliver my car to my home. I completely trust the mechanic; everything I am told needs doing is what I have already surmised will need doing. And it costs way less money than the VW dealership. I trust Yates. They’re small business answering to their own small community. They’d never have survived if they weren’t trust-worthy. So I don’t have to worry about my car now. Thankfully.
Someone ran into the back of my truck. They did an excellent job repairing it!
My fiance and I have been to Yates automobile service center quite a few times over the past 4 years. The customer service was initially outstanding until recently. Over the past year, the maintenance man and sales rep either have not fully communicated the amount of repairs that were going to be done or have not successfully done the repairs.Firstly, they are not shy about tacking on a few additional items to increase the price of service. For instance, my brake pads were worn in the back and the sales rep recommended to me to get it fixed. They were going to charge me 950+$. After I saw the inspection sheet, they were not just going to replace the brake pads, but do a few additional items to the car. I was very shocked about this because all that was needed to be done was replace the brake pads, and the sales rep did not tell me anything about doing any of the additional items. Anyways, I got a second opinion from another company and received a quote for 300$. Quite the difference... I was originally there for another concern about my car, but this in particular queued me to get service elsewhere.A second instance was my air intake kept falling off because the maintenance man decided to put an after market one on. I do not blame Yates for trying to save on price, however, I had to go back two additional times to get this fixed. What was surprising to me is that they did not say anything when I went back-- they changed it for free and eventually installed the stock air intake for my car. It was a waste of money on their part and a waste of time on my part.A third instance was with my Fiances car. The muffler was corroded and needed to be replaced. The muffler kept disconnecting from the main valve and she had to keep going back to Yates to get it fixed. They fixed it for free each time, which was very nice of them. Again it was very irritating that we had to go back.We decided to not to go back to Yates ever again due to the amount bad experience we had with them.
Dropped by unannounced when I found out my headlight was out. Joe got me in right away and Kris had it fixed in less than 2 minutes. In and out! They are amazing!! Thank you
I have been using Yates Automotive for a few years. I think everyone has trust issues with auto repair shops regarding price gouging and quality of work, especially when you dont know much about mechanics. This place has always been reliable, fair, prompt, and professional. I know I am in good hands if I drop my vehicle off for repairs. The location is easy to identify but can be bogged down by traffic if you are trying to access the area during rush hour.
Im utterly shocked this place has such a high rating. The staff is always super pleasant, as they try and talk you into endless cash grabs. I had taken my car in for some minor work (oil change, purchase inspection, etc) and while the prices were always too high for the work involved, I wrote it off due to the nice staff and proximity to my home. Then I took my car in for a safety and emissions inspection to re-register my vehicle. All told, they wanted over $100 to change some brake lights in order to pass me on safety, and $1300 (!!!!) just to pass me for emissions. I immediately pulled my car and paid about $200 for services rendered.I called a mechanic friend of mine immediately and told him the things they insisted be repaired in order to pass. Yates told me the $1300 in repairs HAD to be done just to be street legal. My friend told me that those repairs, while they may need done, had nothing to do with passing an emissions inspection.I dropped my car off at a different shop and had it reinspected. They fixed my brake lights for $25 (compared to Yates $100+) and did some repairs to pass me for emissions. All told, I paid the second shop LESS for everything than I did for Yates to do some diagnostics and try and pull $1300 from me.I dont know what happened to this shop. Maybe theyre just trying to drain whatever they can from some of the more well off yuppie types who live in Old Town, but their business practices are devolving into borderline unethical behavior. I will never go back to this shop, not even for gas. Smiles on their faces while they fool you into emptying your wallet.
First thanks to Aris for all his hard work. Pablo came through for our situation. Lastly thanks to Kelly Torres for making the paper work seemles.
Took my car here after a breakdown and I had to get it towed. Im new to the area and just chose this place because it was the closest to where I broke down. Employees were very friendly and courteous which was nice because I had been up all night in the freezing cold dealing with the breakdown, and I had to get to work in a hurry. They told me I needed an alternator, battery and a serpentine belt and estimated $2200. I just told them to do it because I was in a hurry. Afterwards I told a mechanic friend of mine about it and he was shocked they charged so much. I decided to call some other auto shops to see if he was right and sure enough the very first place I called gave me an estimate of $1500 for all three things, and also that it was unlikely that all of those were needed. I understand you pay a premium for quality work, but a $700 difference is insane. They totally took advantage of me when they saw I was in a sticky situation and had out of state plates.
