Really a great local place to dine with a great view. Nice local atmosphere. I have stopped in several times & everyone seems to operate as a team (great service)! Dakota is a excellent waitress. Food has been spot on; consistent! St Louis ribs w/sauce is amazing. All sides are fresh tasteing & non typical-enjoyable. 🍄 & French onion soups are fantastic. 🐟- black and battered or baked all done perfect. A wide range of different appetizers are great. Spicy chicken sausage pasta really good. You also can pick your pasta between angel hair linguine or penne. I really cant tell u that anything I ate was bad or bad tasting. Dinner rolls are 👍.

First and last time there. Very disappointing. For the prices, I expected better. They only offer one steak for $60.00 and then have the audacity to serve instant mashed potatoes with it. Food had no flavor. Would not recommend.

I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could, but for the sake of fairness, I’ll go with the four…A very nicely decorated place located at a very picturesque location, we ate here on what started as a quite Special bday evening dinner that turned out to be quite a busy night by the time we left.The menu is varied across the board, not your normal fare, which is good in my book. For an appetizer we had their pretzel lobster roll. For the dinners, my wife had a seafood medley that included large scallops, whereas I had their half pound rack of ribs - all of it superbly delicious.The only complaint, light as it may be, was the service. It wasn’t as attentive as I prefer, but after long enough waits, we did get taken care of. It was simply slow.Anyway, a nice little place with great food, I’m sure has better days ahead of it.

What a great dinner!! The service was excellent and they helped us organize the orders for our kids, 6, 7, and 9.Food was delicious, fast, and well made. The homemade blue cheese dressing was amazing and everyone enjoyed their meals.

After a wonderful dinner last night, I inadvertently left my credit card at the restaurant. I only realized it after they had closed. I left a message and early today they returned my call and assured me that my card had been secured. Good food, wonderful service, and caring staff. Thank you.

My husband and I were in a bind for our anniversary and had to last minute find somewhere to go, Ill admit the name deterred me initially but I was pleasantly surprised. We had a nice table overlooking nearby Creek.. they also have outdoor seating. We had fantastic meal my husband raved over the crab cake and I had the sampler (Tuesday special) both very good. But the desserts were amazing! The cheesecake was delicious and huge and the coconut cream pie with macadamia nut crust pie was made locally.

We go here every July 4th week its tradition (we dont live close). Food & service were great as usual. If theyd serve a vat Id take that size for their mushroom soup. Their saucier makes delicious sauces for their meals, plates were left clean. Blueberry pie was a delicious dessert. They posted that prices were going up b/c of the market but theyd rather keep serving quality food than not. So, be prepared to pay more but as long as its delicious food, good portions & good service ... its worth it. Glad they have the staff to keep this landmark open. Thank you again for a great dinner & a good time.

Service is so bad, unapologetically from the staff. Food was good, at least what got to us warm. Some of our food never arrived at all. Maybe take out is a good option or if you really dont care about service Id recommend.

Nice place, clean, friendly staff/owner and good food! We are not from the area, but we are glad we stumbled upon it. Stuffed salmon (w/crabcake) and pecan crusted chicken were perfect! Nice view of the creek also.

This was our third visit to The Road Toad! As usual the food was delicious and made to order. They are very accommodating to special requests and the service is very friendly and efficient. Sit outside if you can and enjoy the view of the Creek. This place has become a favorite of ours. ( the crab soup is excellent). Enjoy😊

Food is pretty bad. Worst fresh cut fries I have ever had and the steak sandwich was mediocre at best. The kids Mac and cheese was nothing special either. For the cost of everything I was expecting a lot better. The service was the only thing that was good.

My husband and I are currently on our honeymoon, we are taking a road trip to see notable spots in PA. At first we laughed at the name, but the good reviews convinced us to stop here for dinner. The inside is cozy, and decorated with frogs and toads in a way that makes everything feel cozy. The hostess who greeted us at the door, as well as our waitress were both incredibly nice and polite and they sat us even though we didn’t have a reservation, we didn’t even think to call ahead! The food was A-MA-ZING!!! The crab dip was to die for, and between that, my soup, and my entree I couldn’t stop myself from eating because it all tasted incredible. The staff was very attentive, and our food came out really quickly, and they were quick to get us drink refills before we even asked. If we were local I would probably come here every week for the crab dip alone, and it’s become a running honeymoon joke that we miss The Road Toad because none of the other places we have stopped have come close at all to our experience here. Thank you all for a great meal and a great time. Also, if you wanted to send me the recipe for that dip I wouldn’t be mad about it. Sending well wishes from Philly :)

Dinning inside and out bar area all non smoking. Clean good food knowledgeable staff. Ron walks around speaks with customers and always has a smile. Pretty decor.

We tried to eat here but they wanted to sit us inside directly at the entrance, when we declined that table they didn’t even offer anything else (a decent restaurant would at least ask why or offer to sit you at the bar until a table opened) and weren’t even concerned $$$ was walking out the door. That’s ok, we went to Denunzios and they were more than happy to take my money.

Showed up unannounced with a group of 8 for dinner. We didnt mind waiting, as the bar was at hand. Decent beer selection. We had to stand, because there were many eating at the bar. It was a well dressed crowd, informal but obviously upper echelon. A couple drinks later we were seated. I had a piece of salmon and sauteed spinach. Both very good. View of the Loyalhanna Creek is nice, I imagine eating on the deck is nice in the summer.

My husband and I have passed by this place a hundred times and never stopped but decided to finally go out to eat here today. Im so glad we did. The food was incredible and our waitresses was excellent. Everyone was incredibly friendly. We will definitely be back.

We went here after our wedding, the food was phenomenal, the staff was even better. We had an absolutely awesome experience - even the patrons were wonderful, they all wished us congratulations and bought us drinks and dessert.The atmosphere feels like an inn you might find along the road in old Ireland, in the best of ways. It is comfortable and cozy, intimate in a way that few places are these days.They have wonderful seafood and desserts - we didnt sample the rest of the menu, but from my own experience in restaurant management, and from seeing what other patrons ordered, I was thoroughly impressed.I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area.

My husband and I visited this restaurant on a rainy end-of-summer evening, and we loved everything about it.I had shrimp scampi, and my husband had salmon. Both were delicious. The stand-out for me, however, was my cream of mushroom soup. I could have just as easily had a large bowl with The Road Toads wonderful bread, and I would have been satisfied.We will be back - we loved it.

We were waited on after other people came in after us. I had to go ask the hostess who are server was. On a better note, the food is delicious!

Went here after a long day at Idlewild. Have driven by many times, but never stopped in. Excellent food. Restaurant is on the creek and is beautiful. Family friendly and wonderful staff.

We stopped on our way home from the Flight 93 Memorial. All of the staff were friendly and the food was great. We hadnt visited in a long time, but we definitely plan to go back.

Brought my grandmother in for mothers day. Had a delicious meal, the Veal Tuscany was so good. Beautiful view of the creek, nice service. Good prices. Ill be back when Im in the area.

Wonderful seafood (albeit a little pricey for shrimp) cooked perfectly. Nice views from the reservation area of the restaurant and a spacious bar to enjoy while awaiting your table. Incredibly friendly staff. Ligonier is a lovely place to visit in general.

My fiancée and I went here for her birthday a few days ago because she always wanted to try this place but she said it was too expensive. I dont mind paying a higher price for good food but it needs to be good.... We ordered the French Onion Soup (alright but nothing special), the baked wedding soup cause I love wedding soup (again nothing special) and we both got chicken dinners, I got the Asiago chicken and she got the Mediterranean chicken.... When served they were leaking water all over the plate and had a very bland taste to each of them.... Like I said I dont mind paying a higher price for good food but not $22 a plate for a BOILED PIECE OF CHICKEN..... Other tables near us, who ordered similar chicken meals, got bread with their dinner and the option of how it was cooked, WE DID NOT!!!! I guess I dont have a refined enough pallet for this place.... The view of the creek was nice though but not anywhere near good enough to overcome all the other flaws. We will NEVER be returning.... Totally Disappointed!!!

My wife and I stopped there for dinner we didnt have a reservation but it was ok we were early and they were able to seat us. The food was good and the so was the service! But what got me is when the owner arrived and starting to talk to the regulars and couldnt even look at my wife and I or even ask how everything was but thats ok! All I have to say is change your ending on the history of the restaurant and yourself from your host and friend Ron McDowell to get screwed and thanks for your money! I will not be back and I will tell everyone I know about my experience! Maybe if we were regulars it would be a different story!

Best dinner i have had in long time the best crab cake ever.

I had a horrific experience here. However they get 4 stars for their ability to deal with it. I have no complaints about food or seating arrangements. We were sat even though we didnt have reservations. We chose this place for the fun looking exterior and it was located near the horse show I was attending with my son. We were not dressed to the 9s as we had to take care of the horse and it was a hot day. We did change clothes and noticed from google photos that the atmosphere was relaxed so we didnt think it an issue. We were asked of we had a reservation, we did not, and they still were able to accommodate the 4 of us. 2 children and 2 adults. We were seated near the bar/lounge area. It was lively and the bartender brought over crayons for my 2 year old and chatted with her a bit. They had a great childrens menu and we selected what we wanted and sat talking. My little girl sat very nicely in her highchair talking with her brother. Horses are her favorite 2 year old topic. She talks and gets excited, not yelling. Laughing and asking for her brother to respond. This horrible man at the table next to us got up, came over to me and told me she needed to pipe down as she was ruining his conversation. Then told me it wasnt her fault but mine. She was smiling and happy, laughing not screaming. I explained that she is a happy 2 year old. He didnt respond. The owner/manager came of and apologized for the mans behavior. It was not his fault but I appreciated the gesture. I told the manager that I would pay for their drinks and he said that wasnt necessary. I told him that it was because I wanted that man to know that I am better than him. His awful behavior did not reflect the circumstances and I wanted him to know that. The owner told me I was a classy women and I appreciated that. The guy must come there often as it seemed as if the knew him? Maybe speculation but something was off. However the myriad of things I wanted to convey to this man for, was vast. He is lucky he caught me on a good day. Im an emergency health care worker and decided his rudeness cant take away from the happiness I was feeling about having a healthy family and healthy children. I hope that unhappy man choked on the glass of cabernet 😉Bravo to the establishment for trying to make us feel welcome

I had the displeasure of dinning this evening at the Road Toad in Ligonier Pa. Let me preface this by saying that I have had many wonderful meals at this establishment and have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant. The waitstaff was wonderful as is also always the case. However, I was absolutely APPALLED at the way the owner of this establishment treated us this evening. My husband and I made the mistake of brining our twelve-year old and two- year old with us for a nice family dinner. My children have always been well behaved and let me say I would be the first to correct them and insist on manners if they were out of line. My two-year old got up out of his seat, while we were waiting an extremely long time for our entrees. He ventured behind the hanging blinds that are attached to the patio door. He did this one time. The door was right next to his seat. He wasn’t pulling on the blinds or breaking them. I began to turn around to scold him and place him back in his chair when the owner came over and berated my husband and I multiple times and repeatedly demanded in a harsh tone that we “control our children”. On my honor this was the first and only time my child even got out of his seat and he was not running around screaming. Toddlers can certainly be temperamental, but this evening He wasn’t acting out in the least. All our toddler did was silently walk behind the blinds to look out at the creek. It all took place in a matter of seconds. The lack of empathy and respect that this man has for his paying customers is outrageous. The lack of humanity that this indigent person displayed was honestly frightening. I realize not everyone likes munchkins, but the establishment has a 12 and under menu. If children aren’t welcome, then I wish he would say as much. The lack of compassion was possibly attributable to the number of shots that I saw him down at his bar although I cannot say for sure what was in them, but I’m sure you can venture a guess. In any rate anyone who has ever had children, has children or ever plans on having children should NOT give this man a penny of their hard-earned money for he doesn’t deserve your patronage. I can only guess that he does not have children of his own or he would not have been so horrible to two parents trying their best and doing a darn good job at raising respectable children. Shame on him. PARENTS BEWARE. I am not overexaggerating this review or the lack of respect that this man showed to my family. His tone and actions truly were outrageous. I have NEVER left a negative review about anyone or anything before, but people, parents in particular, need to be aware of this monster. If you want your couple of hundred-dollar meal ruined make sure to bring your children to this establishment and the owner will be sure to oblige. A man like this should not be in the hospitality business. His behavior as a human being was DISGUSTING. It really is a shame that such a beautiful restaurant that we have adored over the years is owned by a man who is so hideous on the inside. I also am aware that sometimes people just have a bad day and sometimes act out of character, I assure you this was not the case with this individual. First, his terrible reputation proceeds him I just had never witnessed his ridiculous behavior personally. Second, within a minute or two he was kind and compassionate to the table who was sitting directly behind us without children. He may have even realized the error he made, especially when both of my children finished their meals without a peep, because he made his way back to us and tried to make small talk. It was too late to try to put on a front his true ugly character had already shown through. I hope this review aids in your decision when picking from the numerous lovely restaurants in our beautiful Ligonier. I would not venture into this “Toad” of a person’s establishment if I were you and especially if I were a parent.

Our sons family came in from Texas for my husbands birthday and we decided to try the Road Toad because of the 4 star reviews. We called ahead for reservations and asked if we could have a table with a nice view and was told all their tables were in nice rooms. We arrived and were escorted to our table. The temperature outside today was in the 90s with high humidity and I have to say the area we were seated wasnt much cooler even with the a/c. They dont allow tank tops or shorts, so if that is the case, you need to turn the a/c up a little higher so people can enjoy their meal without sweating! My son and husband ordered the New York Strip and it had a very bland taste considering the price was almost $30. They had to add salt to it just to give it some flavor. The crab cakes and shrimp tasted like it was frozen, Ive had the real thing, I can tell the difference. My son ordered a Yuengling and he said it tasted watered down. The service was ok although I had to ask for a refill on my drink. Overall, our family felt the food was way over priced for the taste. Very disappointed considering we spent close to $200 for 4 adults and 1 child. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone who was looking for great tasting food.

Descent food and has a nice outdoor deck overlooking a stream. Service is a bit slow. Dont go there if you are in a hurry. However, it is one of the better options in Ligonier.
