I brought a saw here for repair to replace the frayed power cord. They were upfront that they don’t do the repairs on-site, that they have to send the saw to the Syracuse location. I called back a couple of weeks later after no update or estimate, to see how it was going. After a few transfers they told me they wouldn’t repair it because they don’t like working on Skil brand tools and that the cord had been discontinued. I at least could pick it up without extra charges. I thought the experience was weird because Skil is a pretty common brand and spent 2s on Google to find the power cord has been issued a replacement part … I bought it off Amazon for $12 and I’ll either try to DIY or bring it to another place that repairs power tools. Tool repair is a service I’d like in Albany but I’ll still be looking for a good place elsewhere. (I don’t mean for my rating to be taken seriously, I am just repeating the 3.5 stars already present when I posted)Edit: I finally got around to fixing the power cord, and it was incredibly easy. To be honest the replacement cord was not even necessary because the frayed section of the old one could have been cut off and pared down. But swapping in the new cord on the Skil just took screwdrivers and a pocket knife. It just makes the refusal to take on the job that much more bizarre. In the end at least I saved like $75-100 and I learned where not to go for tool repair.
I took a saw in for repair asked if they could put a rush on it for me.Was told sure no problem next I was told stihl shut their factory down to move. The part wasnt available for a while. Four months later called and asked about my saw still wasnt repaired. I asked them to return my saw and took it elsewhere was repaired within a week.
