Love all the unique home decor and gifts, Melanie curates at Umami Interiors in Albany! So many new and vintage options to choose from! Her selection is always changing with fun and exciting one of a kind items. Highly recommend. It could take you several trips to the store to see all the goodies she offers in all the nooks and crannies of the store! I got this amazing vintage Mexican salad and serving utensils there. Its my favorite new conversation piece for my home!

Melanie did the window coverings for our living room, master bedroom, nursery, and office and we could not be more thrilled! We did a combo of roman shades (beautiful and classy) and roller shades (super functional and blend into the room) She helped us make great, classic choices that go with almost all decor. We plan to enjoy them for a LONG time!

There’s a mix of vintage, fair trade, and hand made items so there literally is something for everyone. I love to shop local and support our small businesses!

We called Melanie towards the end of an extensive home remodel, to ask for help making some cushions and throw pillows for several new built-in nooks in our kitchen and stairway. She was fast to respond to our inquiry, an excellent listener, and quickly understood our preference for colors and style. The cushions are so beautiful and cozy, and she brought a good, wide selection of fabrics along to our house. She also ended up making curtains and Roman shades for our master bedroom and living room that we love and appreciate every day, as well as roller blinds for six other rooms in the house. She guided us in picking some light-filtering shades for our kitchen which now makes a sunny corner much more comfortable on really hot days. She has a great sense of humor and energy for the project! When one of the new Roman shades was stained by water damage from the power-washing of our house painter, she quickly helped us with a referral to a green dry cleaner close by. Shes really great - we will recommend her to anyone looking for help with cushions and window treatments.

Umami is my new favorite store in the East Bay. It has wonderful jewelry, glasses, small rugs, housewares, and unusual things. New and retro are mixed together in beautiful displays. Right across from the Albany post office!

Umami Interiors was extremely helpful in working with me to chose shades for our new apartment. Melanie came in person, understood that the measurements of the windows were not uniform, and spent time working with me to pick out the right materials, colors, price and configuration for the shades. She is personable and has a good eye. The installers that she works with were professional, timely and neat!

Melanie helped us with window treatments for three rooms and pillows for our living room sofa and chairs to add color and comfort. She did a fantastic job, bringing us many fabrics to consider, arranging to have samples sent to us and giving us lots of information about the pros and cons of each. Melanie is knowledgeable, skilled and wonderful to work with.We had some questions about other areas in our living room and she gave us excellent design advice which transformed our living room. She has a good eye for what works.Our whole experience working with Melanie was positive. She made it fun. I highly recommend her.

Very interesting looking place.

We had been searching for the right window treatment for our window for several years without being able to find the right solution. We talked to others who never really tried to understand what we wanted. Melanie took the time to work with us and help us find what would work best for us. She was patient and made excellent suggestions. The finished curtains and Roman shades are terrific! We will use Melanie again and certainly would recommend her to others!

We recently finished several projects with Melanie and couldnt be happier. She has a great eye for fabric and made a beautiful window seat cushion and pillows for our kitchen nook. We also bought some window shades for our kitchen and lovely romans for our living room. She is very detail-oriented and took lots of time mulling over fabrics with us and discussing their pros and cons. I will certainly be calling her in the future!

Melanie is fabulous. Before purchasing window treatments for our house and rental unit from Umami Interior, I had met with two other consultants. However, it just didn’t feel right and I wasn’t confident in making a decision until I met with Melanie. Melanie is incredibly knowledgeable and can offer suggestions at varying price points to meet a budget. I also appreciated that she would provide suggestions and advice with grace, is flexible, and understands what a big decision her clients are making.
