My first time in, I had no idea what I was in for. I expected a simple butcher shop with a few extras. Instead I was greeted with an extensive array of... Everything! Meats and spices and basically a full deli and sandwich shop. I got the steak and cheese sandwich which was the most popular according to the guy with the mustache. It was delicious! I look forward to going back soon to pick up meat dairy eggs maybe some seasonings and sauces. This little gem is tucked away in Stuyvesant plaza. You need to check it out.

Fantastic store! Their selection ranges from A5 Wagyu to Choice steaks. The staff here is knowledgeable and kind and extremely helpful. Their subs are excellent quality, on fresh bread daily delivered from a local bakery. I wish I could give 6 stars.

Hadnt been here in a while and I forgot how amazing it was. Aside from the awesome knowledge and service of their crew there, the selection is unreal. Seemingly endless options of steaks and chicken and pork as far as the butcher side goes, with various options for rubs and marinades. But on top that they make fresh cold or hot subs and various meals to go, and there is a huge selections of BBQ/hot sauces, dips and chips, just about every spice imaginable, and even a limited craft beer selection. Already cant wait for my next trip there to try the things I couldnt fit in my hands today!

My husband and I went there for a sandwich today. I didn’t want a whole sub and asked for a sandwich on a roll. They only other alternatives are sliced white or wheat, maybe rye, bread or a wrap. So I got the big sub planing to have half of it for dinner. I ordered roast beef and said I wanted it rare- no problem said the clerk. When I unwrapped the sub I could see right away it was not rare and it looked a bit stringy and dry, which it turned out to be. Compared with pellegrinos and the beef on wick at bountiful bread it was very disappointing. It wasn’t very tasty either.

Wife asked for a little string to tie prime rib roast purchased at Primal. Obviously we can afford a spool of string. No, they said. You must buy it. Great customer service, loyalty. Never shop there again. Spent thousands there.

So very Disappointed in Primal. Normally the meat is Great. But not today. The order was wrong and Ill take the hit for that. Ordered COOKED corn beef and cabbage dinner. Received everything UNCooked.Vegtables included the worst carrots ever and only 4 very small red potatoes. 4 2.5 inch potatoes. Could you spare it. The quarter piece of cabbage was bad on the outside. Had to toss much of it and the worst piece of Corned Beef I ever had. There was at least a full inch of Fat on the beef and and a Gray dry center in the meat. Im so sorry but I wont be back. The staff couldnt care less when we called. Very BAD Customer Service.

Called and asked for 2 teres major steaks to celebrate our anniversary. Received 2 wonderful steaks marinated in the house sauce. Delicious. Called after picking up and asked how to prepare. Again, on the nose with the info. Thank you!

Stopped by here for lunch, I asked for there most requested wrap and it was amazing! What was great about the experience was how clean the establishment is, as well as allowing customer have the option to try some meat. Who doesn’t enjoy free food? Overall the staff was great and the food was great! I would recommend coming here with an empty stomach!

This is an absolute must place to go. I went for the first time December 30th 2019 and had chosen 2 Delmonico steaks and also had gotten some Mac and cheddar salad. We grilled the steaks on New Year’s Day and let me just say, these were the most delicious steaks hands down. The experience there was also pleasant. Kind staff and also quick. I most definitely will go there ( Stuyvesant plaza)when I shop for steaks and also whatever looks good for our craving.Also my dog loved the few “scraps”I left behind which was quite difficult to save for the pup, but hey, he should enjoy something delicious also.Kim

I have been a customer here since they opened and the level of customer service displayed at Primal exceeds all expectations. The entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable and well mannered. Every time you walk in you can expect to be pleasantly greeted, and everyone is always eager to offer assistance .A few days ago it started pouring while I was in the shop. Their lovely manager Lewis, who was just finishing his 11 hour shift, insisted on walking me out with an umbrella and even helped me me carry my packages. I was certainly capable of managing on my own but his kind gesture was greatly appreciated.Every business should be so lucky as to have employees like Lewis and the rest of his team. I will continue to be a loyal customer and I encourage everyone reading this review to support this local business!

Something for every budget. The rotating blend of in-house spices and rubs keeps things interesting year round, and their exotic sausages and craft beer can make date night or special occasions memorable. Finally, their points membership opens up a world of crazy deals. Once you start coming here, supermarket meat will never measure up again.

My brother stopped for lunch. Forgot his wallet. Had 10 dollars. Came to 10 dollars and 25 cents. Would not give to him. Day before ordered 180 dollars for filet mignon. Terrible place. Do not go there over a quarter.

Went there to get steaks, came out with gourmet burgers, corn on the kalb smothered in garlic butter, spaghetti sauce, and bacon. Oh yeah, and a couple steaks. Ended up having burgers tonight and they were among the best I have ever had. This is not your moms 80/20 ground beef. Tasted like a steak...highly recommend this place.

Spent $90 on meats, the pork roast was terrible, chewy wouldn’t even shred & the chicken was slimy and smelly! What a waste! Tried calling 8 times today couldn’t even get through !

Hipster meat shop with a bad attitude.

I have been going here for years at least once a week. The most recent incarnation of staff and products is on point. The meat is the best in the city. The service is super fast, friendly and attentive. The staff remembers my name and regular order. The subs feature fresh vegetables and make sure you get bacon because its the bacon they cut sell there not some pre cooked frozen nonsense. One minor negative criticism is the that the fresh ground beef seems to go bad quickly in comparison to super market ground beef. Not a big deal if you are using it same day but can be an issue if you use the meat over several days. Check out the fresh pies. If I could have them carry one item it would be sour cream. I often have to stop at Stewarts directly after going to get it for my baked potatoes or beef stroganaff.

Primal carries a wide variety of top rate butchered meats. It even carries some exotics. It also carries a small selection of lunch and dinner options.

Im only commenting on the Sandwich part of this place. Quite simply its awful, everything on the menu sounds great but in reality is a nearly tasteless, meatless sandwich that is mostly overly dry bread. You would think a butcher shop would give you a good hearty sandwich loaded with meat, instead youll get a thin band of a few slices of deli meat. What a joke.

I had a small customer service issue and was not very happy with this location. The owner reached out to me personally and went above and beyond to make everything right. I will be picking up my essential package this evening and am anxious to try the meat since I always hear great things about it.

They sell one of the BEST Philly Cheesesteaks Ive ever eaten, and I went to a Philly Cheesesteak festival IN PHILLY. I always thought they only sold raw meat, but saw a sign outside the door about the sandwich, and it lured me in! They also have AMAZING customer service and helpful staff to tell you about the menu!

I got the Caveman sub, hands down the messiest and most delicious sub Ive ever had. The whole store smelled amazing and I cant wait to go back.

It used to be really good! Now, whenever I go in I have to wait 15 minutes to get waited on, even though they have 5 people behind the counter. I called in an order to speed things up, but I still had to wait. I ordered a chicken salad wrap, but it was more like a brown lettuce wrap with just a little chicken salad. I dont appreciate the brown lettuce which I would not put on my own sandwich if I made it myself so I dont want to see it on my sandwich when I buy one. Disappointed!

Can someone explain why the Primal in Stuyvesant Plaza is selling a 9 piece package of Matlaw frozen clams for $22.41, when you can get them at Target for $5.89? And when you question the staff, they are extremely rude? Not a way to do business.

Bought a package deal and asked too have it Vaccum sealed and all the bags were full of air. I had too put them in my own ziplock Bags at home. What was the point of me waiting to have them vaccum sealed if they aren’t going to do it the right way! This is the second time this has happened to us we are very loyal monthly customers we get the meat in bulk deal once s month and sad to say we are done.

Staff is friendly, quality is on point, but its expensive. My husband and I pick up various things for dinner when were passing by and havent been disappointed. We also used to stop in for lunch when it first opened, but quality and variety of lunch options decreased so we havent been back for lunch in a long time.

The quality of the food seems to be pretty on point here, however you are definitely paying the extra for it. Usually pretty well staffed too when I stop in and the store always appears to be very clean. I have been going here for about 7 years now (previously called meat house) and this past year or two I have been very disappointed on a few occasions. Long story short, they advertise specials and then you get to the store and they claim they ran out (well before closing time), and offer nothing to substitute. I will go into my exact examples that happened to me.The first time was with their valentine day special. This is usually a planned ahead day for a lot of people. I get an email, see the special, sounds good so I call them up and ask if I can reserve the valentine special. The response was no you dont need to just come into the store and pick it up whenever you are ready. So I head over after work day of, and they are sold out. Huge annoyance being how it was v-day at 5:30 pm and I did try to plan ahead with them. Luckily their are endless places to go in the area to pick up where they lack.Second time was when they had week long dinner specials for 19.99 beginning every Monday. This particular Monday was steak and lo mein. I go in at 5pm the day the deal started and they claim they were already sold out. They do not close until 9, it is a dinner special, and the very first day it was offered. Then offer nothing in substitution. I am a busy person and plan ahead, so for me to waste my time now a second time, when I am hungry, is extremely frustrating.I know, I should know better by this point. This week I get an email on Wednesday for a one day only cheese steak on a garlic sub roll. All day I am hoping they wont claim they are sold out again and this special is ligament and not a ploy to get customers in the store. I call up a little before I was going to head over, around 4:45pm and ask hey are you sold out of the cheese steaks? guy says yes we still have them to my amazement. I say great ill take two please his response, ok, but we are out of sub rolls, we have white slice bread and wraps. So if I did not try and order those 2 after he said they had them, I would of drove to the store yet again for them to tell me they are out of sub rolls. A cheese steak sub isnt a cheese steak on slice white bread or a wrap in my opinion. If you are out of bread before 5 pm when you are open until 9 and you have advertisements out there for specials, why not send someone to a store to pick up what is needed. Local grocery stores have very quality options they could easily send someone to pick up.Just seems like they use advertisement specials as a ploy to get customers to come to the store thinking that when they say they are sold out. The customer is already there and will just purchase there very expensive regular priced meats.

To begin with, WOW! I walk in at noon, Im immediately greated and assisted. My wife orders The Coach, I order the Reuben. Sandwiches are promptly made. This was easily one of the best Reubens I have ever had. My wifes Coach had a marinated grilled chicken on it, the chicken was perfectly done. Was tender and moist and delicious. This placed has just EARNED a customer for life! I reccomend this and I cant wait to bring friends and family
