Fantastic customer service! Got me set up with an express wheel swap over in hour’s notice. Andrew rocks. This shop is one of the few things I’ll miss about Albany. Keep up the great work! Thanks for making my trip possible here’s a picture of my First ride on my x country trip. cuyahoga state park Ohio.
I contacted Downtube from Oregon. I was planning a ride long the length of the Erie can and needed to ship my bike back home.It was all set up by the time I left for New York, at the end of my ride they disassembled and boxed it for shipping through Bike Flights. Friendly. professional service .Thanks!
I’ve purchased two Trek bicycles here for my sons and had a great experience both times. Will buy again!
Fraud business!!! They ask for a deposit up front for a bike. Then they end up charging you the full amount for said bike, without consent. Months go by with no communication from the business and then finally you reach out and find out the bike is ready… so you go to pick up that bike and they ask for more money??? No… that’s fraud. They even removed the freight charge (out of the kindness of their hearts) but in reality that charge was already paid for in the first full payment.Once the bike was paid for (months ago) YOU were in debt to us…. If anything we should be charging you interest for the wait… you don’t get to charge us extra because of “inflation” during the months wait.Find a different bike shop. This one is a scam!
I came in to get a birthday gift and I know nothing about bikes. The staff was exceptional. The woman who assisted me was knowledgeable, respectful of my budget and so nice! I left happy and Im sure my brother-in-law is going to love his gifts.
Patrick is an excellent maintenance technician. I brought by recumbent trike in for service and even though Downtube does not sell recumbent trikes Patrick dove in with much enthusiasm and skill and fixed everything I needed fixing. He significantly improved my shifting and braking, and he performed the regular maintenance on my trikes shock absorber suspension. I am very happy with my experience.
Amazing service!I bought a Trek Verve and ended up tricking it out to suit my purposes (road and a bit of gravel, city street commuting, grocery shopping, exercise and fun). Each of the 3 staff people I talked with during the process of choosing the bike and accessories were clearly knowledgeable, friendly and patiently answered each question I had. I was allowed to ride the bike in the park for 20 minutes before purchase.I have to say that Andrew in particular gave me a lot of personal attention. I was able verbally process with him the pros and cons of many accessory options. I got schooled on the possibilities by someone with firsthand knowledge of city living and a biking lifestyle. It was a powerful experience to share with someone who really gets the joy of riding and of riding as a lifestyle choice. He never lost the thread of our conversation despite the busyness of the shop and the time it took me to get a hands on feel for all the accessory options. At no time did he pressure me in the least, (and I’ve been told by others I’m not particularly speedy at processing new info.) I am delighted with the maxed out functionality of my new bike. Oh- and they had the bike ready the morning after I closed the shop at 6pm the night before! Thanks guys.I love this place💕
Quick turnaround, easy communication, friendly service, fair price.
Fast, good work on my bicycles (a commuter hybrid and a beater). Very reasonable prices. Helpful and friendly too, I cant say enough good!
Excellent service especially with Patrick. He made me a customer for life . Im very happy on how fast my service was. Paul weyhe
Andrew and Patrick were great to work with... they didn’t have the exact bike I wanted... but neither did any other local bike shop... so I upgraded... they transferred my various accessories from the old bike to the new without complaint.. I can highly recommend.
Ive had nothing but pleasure when visiting their shop. I havent yet purchased a bike from them, but Ive taken my existing bike in to maintenance multiple times and theyve always done the work quickly and well, while also detecting issues that I didnt realize existed. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and I never feel patronized, ignored, or unvalued.
My favorite bike shop - knowledgeable, helpful and so convenient!
Great staff very knowledgeable and friendly, whether youre a cycling pro or brand new!
They dont want black ppl money. Been turned away twice trying to spend money there.
The Down Tube is a wonderful shop. All the folks who work there are friendly and helpful. Special Kudos to Patrick from RI. He is a wheel working wizard. Ultimately my 1990s rear wheel was declared dead and Patrick hooked me up with a used racing wheel of his own. And, that wheel is spectacular!!! It has changed the bike immeasurably for the better. Thank you so much!!! You have more than earned my business.
I dropped bike off and immediately was told all I needed was a tune up. The cost was nominal. I was a little discouraged about the month wait, but I was pleasantly advised in 2 weeks my bike was ready for pick up. The bike rode smooth and all was fixed for a great price! Thanks!
Awesome staff. A++ work and knowledge!
Brought a bike here for a general tune-up and brake pad replacements. Paid like $100 for the service. I wouldve been happy paying that price if everything went fine. The new brake pads they installed make my bike SCREAM when braking. You can hear me a quarter mile away. Also, both tires popped after the tune-up. I wouldve at least expected them to check on the tires during a tune-up and ask if I wanted them replaced but they didnt mention anything. Not happy with the service.
Very informative about the work and timeframe required. Service was better than good, it was exceptional!! Feels like a brand new bike 😊
Friendly staff and fast service. In and out in about 20 minutes from purchasing bike to setting it up and checking it out
I really liked the staff and service at Downtube! From meeting Bob, the very nice, knowledgeable and resourceful owner to being introduced to the service crew, to having my work done on the spot for a very reasonable price, every bit of my customer experience was amazing. I left the shop a more informed rider, and I absolutely intend to go back as my bicycle needs service or parts. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone! They know their stuff and have a very professional approach to bicycle repair, sales, and service.
After paying for basic maintenance, I was told the bike would be ready in a couple days or four days at most. A week later I called to check in and was told it would be completed that night or tomorrow at the latest-- a lot of bikes came in and apparently its not first come first served.Another week and a half later the maintenance was completed without any explanation as to what they did to the bike or a sorry it took so long and sorry we didnt update you as we said we would.~80% of the bill, of almost $300, was for BS labor costs such as bend rail back. They didnt even have the decency to put the schrader valve caps on either tire or true the handlebars. They charged me for the deluxe maintenance package when I said I simply wanted new tubes and a quick tune up, and now, as I take the bike for a spin, the front gears dont shift up.I was completely ripped off and will never go back there or recommend them to anyone. Do yourself a favor and avoid this bike shop.
The employee who helped me on Wednesday was knowledgeable, engaged, and answered my questions with enough information so that I could make sound decisions about my purchases. This level of service is what I have experienced for years at the Downtube Bike Shop. RL
Very friendly and helpful! They helped me get the bike I’ve been trying to order for months and were great throughout the process. Highly recommend!
They did an amazing job on my daughter bike and the prices is pretty reasonable and the customer service was great
Friendly, knowledgeable!!!!! The staff could not have been nicer, helpful, and informed.
Very professional and kind staff. The offer to return the bike if it did not fit my wife was appreciated. Thank you!
Exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Great service! Thanks
Dropped off my 2010 specialized epic for service after it sat in the parking garage unused for nearly 2 years, 2 weeks and some special order parts later, it shifts and rides like new. Great friendly atmosphere and have always enjoyed any interaction with the crew, and they are my service shop of choice. Thanks again.
I’ve purchased a new bike and been there many times for service or upgrades. The staff are top notch. They are very patient with my many questions and provide excellent service. Whatever your level or style of cycling I would highly recommend.
The staff was very helpful in giving me feedback multiple times on what was wrong with my bike. After having my bike serviced, I returned with issues and they still took the time to hear my concerns and worked on it until it was fixed. Very happy with the service and patience of staff. Would definitely recommend them to friends.
I was wanting to get more serious about my biking and after a quick phone call with Andrew, I was testing a Trek Fuel EX8. I loved it so much I ordered an EX5 for myself in a color that wasnt in stock. The original time estimate was just over a month but they got it to me in about two weeks! Expertly set up and totally dialed in perfectly. They did an amazing job with it and I will definitely be a returning customer! Staff is top notch too, always happy to answer questions, took the time to explain how to care for stuff I wasnt familiar with like the rear shock and hydraulic brakes. Some of the nicest people Ive worked with at a store, like chatting with some old friends. Andrew even recommended me a few more local trails he thought Id enjoy and even told me how to find the trail heads once Im there! Its very clear theyre all very passionate about what they do, and it reflects in their work. Would recommend to anyone.
Downtube Bicycles service folks are great. I called with a repair question which they were able to deal with right away. I took my bike in and was back on it, working smoothly, in a few hours. A quick, inexpensive repair. Thanks!
The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.
I trust them. what else more needs to be said. They know bikes. I feel theyre pricing is reasonable. And they are taking care of bikes, that means get out and go exercise, perfect.
As always, great service and knowledgeable staff. A go-to place for bike sales and service.
Great job, fairly prices, service friendly. Nice inventory for the time.
Dont waste your time bringing your used ebike for service or repairs the wont touch it unless its the brand they sell was willing to bring my business to them but they refused!!
My experience here was the best I have ever had at any local bike shop! My bike was recently stolen, so I was in the market for a new bike. I understand that this is one of the worst times to be looking for a bike, due to the current shortage. I visited a different shop first, and called a second one; both seemed rather inconvenienced by my presence. When I visited Downtube, everyone working in the shop was very friendly and helpful. They only had a handful of bikes to choose from, but Sylvia took the time to introduce me to the world of road bikes, and helped me find one I liked. The bike was still in a box, but they got it built in a two days, even with all the other service requests they had going on. I am happy to say that I have found a new bike shop, and I will be a returning customer!
Laurel is an efficient and also very skilled technician. I appreciated the professionalism and also the pleasantness of the staff. I will definitely continue to come here for my bike repairs!
I was able to drop my bike off and pick it up with very limited face to face interactions. The repair was done quickly and the price was reasonable. Highly recommend the Downtube!
Beautifully located in downtown Albany next to the park The Downtube offers both comprehensive bicycle service and sales with a smile. Flat tires are a fast fix but if you have something bigger it helps to call ahead. The cafe next door has amazing pastries and coffee while you wait as well! All around great experience when ever Im there!
Great employees that are concerned with getting you on the correct bike that you are looking for. Not pushy, nice atmosphere, and very knowledgable. I will be making this my bike shop as long as Im in this area.
I went to another bike shop to see if I could pick up some parts to my bike, and was basically turned away because they were too busy? Only one guy working. I went to Downtube next, and you guys seemed to be equally as busy, but you saw me and helped me out right away. Thank you for your excellent customer service, despite the pandemic!
Bought the new Verve 3. Outstanding staff to help out, knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction. No pressure just excellent experience and recommended to everyone. Bike is awesome and look forward for lifetime experience on the road. Yes Lifetime Warranty .
Great place, excellent service. In fact, I came in with a flat after a ride to the Troy farmer’s market, and they fixed it quickly while I had lunch. However, I ended up with a second flat about a mile away on my way home. I walked back, and they repaired it...it could have been a new piece of glass that caused the second flat, as Albany streets are not very clean, but they graciously fixed the second flat for me for free, and sent me on my way. Thank you...you made a challenging day MUCH better. As for the cafe, I love it. I do wish you’d also serve half portions of your avocado bread....it’s just way too much!
Gone down hill. Would not recommend
I been coming to downtube for years always give good customer service when you walk threw the door.
Friendly staff and very helpful
I purchased a Trek FX2 bike from Andrew and it was a great experience. As someone who is, at best, a casual biker I felt Andrew knew exactly what I needed and gave me the information necessary to make an informed decision. I never felt pressured or uncomfortable. Overall an amazing experience.
Great staff. Had my bike finished when they said it would be done. Very friendly, very knowledgeable and informative. Great place to get your bike fixed, or they have a great selection of bikes you can buy!
After another company spent over 3 weeks and still couldnt get my mountain bike working properly, Downtube had it done in only a couple days. They know bikes, they know what theyre doing. Theyre honest people who care about the customer, and thats worth repeat business.
25+ years experience. Never had a problem. They really know their stuff,
Service was straight forward and not a sales pitch which I really appreciate. I love the bike I bought there.
Its always a good experience when I visit the Downtube, even in this time of social distancing. I had a wheelset that I couldnt make work in my gravel bike, and after a little thinking, Adam solved the problem. Service with a smile, even with a mask on!
As you may have read from other reviewers, this place is a great little bike shop and has amazing location downtown. Whether that affects or ultimately justifies the increase in cost is something that youll have to decide for yourself. On one hand, you can get the same parts they can online for a lot cheaper and their service rates are high. On the other hand, when you blow a tube downtown on a bike date, its quite nice to have these guys around.Front of house staff are very upbeat and helpful, bike mechanics do top notch work but need to lighten up when talking to non-bike enthusiasts.
Great Experience... Knowledgable and Responsive Customer Service.
Reliable service and advice. They have made it easy to navigate repairs and sales during these weird social distancing times.
Walked in expecting to be without a bike for a week and have a $100 bill. I was in and out within 20 mins with great service and it cost $12. I strongly recommend this bike shop.
Installed bike rack and that was great. I originally went in for them to check my gear detailed in 2gear because it was making an unusual noise they said they would look at it and said it’s ok but as soon as I started riding my bike The noise was still there . Tried going back Sunday and Monday but they are closed.
Assembled a bike for me. Great customer service! The bike looks and works great.
Great local bike shop. Im glad to receive the quality service my bike requires. And they even have a cafe next door! Thanks guys for keeping the lights on for me at the end of your day!!!
Good service.
Never seen a bike shop with such reasonable pricing and quick turnaround. Thank you for getting me back on my bike!
Great staff friendly, professional. Great prices...
Yet another beyond satisfied visit. Ive had dealings with them a few times before and like those experiences this one surpassed my expectations. The employees were very professional and very helpful. I came in needing a new chain for my bike and when I asked about the cost difference between having them doing it and buying a chain tool to do it myself they were knowledgeable enough in their products and services to be able to tell me right away. They also alerted me to the condition of another part that is getting worn and what to watch out for to tell when it is completely worn out. They completed the service very quickly Everything about this experience was good and then as an unexpected bonus and because things went so quickly and smoothly in performing the service, they decided on their own to knock a little off the bill.
Expressive 2 expensive
Great staff; accommodating and knowledgeable. I would not make a serious decision about any of my bikes without consulting with Bob, Eric or Adam at the Downtube. If they dont have what you need or want in stock, they can get it for you very quickly. Albany needs a resource like the Downtube in its downtown area and they should receive kudos for being there and for being a terrific resource.
Literally the best place on earth (staff was very kind, quick, the cost of service was really reasonable, and my bike rolls fantastically)
I bought a Trek Domane SL 6 Disc at Downtube in 2018 and have found it to be remarkably light and stiff, yet very comfortable on every ride. Finding a bike that fits me well is not easy because I require a long stack but short reach. Adam not only gave me a great deal on the bike, he also found a 90 mm/17 degree stem that brought the handlebar closer to me and has completely eliminated the elbow pain that plagued me on long rides in the past. I would also add that I have relied on Downtube to maintain my bikes for several years and have consistently walked out of the shop completely satisfied with the service that I have received.
Amazing bike shop. Excellent customer service. Knowledge of bikes is unparalleled.
Honest opinions, never a hard sell. Anything they fix stays fixed. Spoken as a 20-year customer.
We called today because there was an upset 7 year old whos gears woudnt shift below 4th (of 6). It was over dads head and it was a beautiful day to bike and we were very excited. The guy on the phone said bring it in and theyd take a look right away. I thought wow, thats cool, and off we went. When we arrived (very cool looking shop with a cafe attached) we were greeted and within 3 minutes the bike had gone on the rack, a couple quick screw adjustments and DONE, bike fixed. Happy 7 year old. Great service. We will return.
Love this place. Family-owned, and the manager has been there 25+ years; I dont think it is possible for him to be more knowledgable. Went there the other day to get a spoke fixed and left to do errands. They sent me a text message when they were done, which was a great surprise. Theyre always courteous and responsible.
Great bike shop, and a fixture on the local biking scene. Staff are always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable!
Great service and very friendly.... Parking spots are scarce though. Theyre just begging to give you a ticket over there even in the park area .
They are so nice to me every time I go in
Always have a good experience here. Its been remodeled since the fire and it looks great!I see in the reviews some complaints and Ill address them here: Cost of work... One guy was complaining about a *$60-ish* fee... Prices for various things are posted, as is their hourly fee. try going other places... The prices arent much different, and $60 is not much... If you dont like that, its time to learn to do it yourself. I can do a lot myself, but I also like to help keep actual bike shops alive by giving them work. That way, when I need an actual bike mechanic, hopefully theyre still there.
Super nice and accommodating with speedy turn around!! Clean shop as well
They did a great job tuning my bike up and it rides like new. Employees where very nice and helpful if I have any issues with my bikes I will definitely be returning.
Friendly neighborhood bike shop with informative staff and fast service.
Been here multiple times and always had an enjoyable experience. They know what they are doing when it comes to bike maintenance and they have a good showing of newer bikes available.
Friendly and fast service!!! I ride 3 to 5 times a week on the SMBA trails. I need the best equipment and the best service to keep me on the trails. Eric and all the staff are the very best!!!
Great bike shop very friendly bunch of people.
Best bike shop in Albany.
I needed help with some tires and these guys were there for me. Great shop...They have earned my business.
In from out of town and tried to rent bikes. Finally found this place. Very helpful and Really nice people!
Very fast service. Very high priced. Overall its okay but I can get cheaper services at other shops.
For decades this is the bike shop that sets the standard for all others.
Very quick and polite service. Reasonable prices for repairs.
When shopping for a new bike, DownTube was the only store that wanted to put me on a new bike and encouraged me to take the bike out for a test ride. They seemed interested in working with me to complete the sale in the way that other shops were not.
Very nice staff. They are always helpful when I come in with a question and never try to oversell me anything.
Brought my bike in for a minor repair, and it was ready for pick up in just a couple hours! The price seemed reasonable and the staff was very friendly
Friendly prompt and expert service, and advice.
Excellent products and first rate service.
Ive had one bike totally rebuilt, and bought another off the shelf, and the staff has always treated me with respect, and were very knowledgeable and helpful. As a matter of fact, about a year after I had my GT rebuilt, one of the staff saw me riding by and came running out to give me back a little silver skull that used to hang in front of the headset. Friggn 10 🌟
Very informative, great experience! Ill be headed back for a test ride!!
Nice people. Good service
