Had him do mechice work and he sand blasted my crank without asking too. And first had to take back down at 200 miles on engine and he polished the crank and did not charge me but it cost Me my labor and new bearings because the ones with just 200 miles one were all scratched up and looked wo
Because of rushing to get some auto repair done to my truck to get back to work I over looked a simple thing that put me in an even worse bind. Having called around searching for help and running into dead ends I called these folks and was told to bring part in to look at anyways. The man on the phone and man that greeted me Mike helped me out with a quick fix that will get me back on the road. He is a really good dude with lots of knowledge. I see myself doing lots of future business with Hanson Auto Machine. Thanks Mike
I have used them professionally for a great many years. Virgil and Randy are always pleasant to deal with. Their work is always done in a timely manner, and correctly. I would highly recommend them for all your machining needs.
Good reliable machine work. From race engines to tractor motors they do it all!
Spoke to the most rudest person and then proceeded to tell me it was none of my business for asking a question about pricing, then proceeded to tell me that people have to be over charged for other businesses to make a living and that if I didn’t like not knowing how much things cost then to call someone else. Worst professionalism I’ve ever dealt with over the phone.
Great customer service !
Pros and cons here..Virgil does good work but good grief he can be a cranky old bastard at times. I havent found the way to deal with him yet that everyone goes home happy. He is the cheaper alternative to other machine shops around but I leave my cam and crank turning to another group, Virgil gets head and block surfacing.
Virgil is the MAN! Quick turn around reasonable prices. He has helped me out a bunch.
Dont take your car here. My elderly dad was reccomended to this shop by a friend to have a complete overhaul of his GTO less than two years ago. The shop took forever to complete the work and within a few weeks, the car began burning oil like crazy. Mechanics blamed it on our choice of oil when there were clear issues with shoddy workmanship and evidence of oil leaks. They begrudgingly fixed it only after arguing extensively with my brother who has tons of experience with cars. Now the car has a blown head gasket. This is NOT a car we race with, its a road car, driven occasionally, and all maintenance has been done.Take your car elsewhere unless youve got money to burn.
Fellow racers, I felt I could trust. Got fooled. Crate 604 with 300 races, coming off a championship season. Took to Hanson for lower rebuild, no issues, maintenance only. The engine was delivered to their shop, with verbal instructions to rebuild the lower as it had never been done, no problems, maintenance rebuild only. Do NOT replace the springs as they are good. The invoice does not list my request in special instructions, 604 crate, paid cash + 200 pd x136. No notation of any special instructions.Upon completion, seeing the springs had been replaced, they were reminded the springs were NOT to be replaced. When asked where the original springs were, the mechanic, Randy Boyd, said in my tool box (?) and went and retrieved and returned them.Misc. Oddities on Invoice:1 rings no price16 spring kit-- $70No price on rod inserts, mains, cam bearings, gaskets 2601725 (or description, these are in addition to the GM head set),oil pump.Valve job 2 (2 what? Only did 2 valves or did them all 2 times, makes no sense either way). And, my fault I laid out $1900. The engine lasted 9 races. Changing the oil, large chunks metal and plastic.Took to another shop for clarification of what happened. The deterioration of the engine was caused by coil spring bind due to mechanics error. A spring set with insufficient coil spacing and or spring rate for our application was used. All could have been avoided. That un-noted special instruction, do NOT replace the springs.Calls were made to Virgil and Jeff. Jeff knew exactly was happened, stating the valve spring seals broke. (Bear in mind i run a 6400 chip, this engine was not overrevved) he asked for pictures, which were sent, of the heads when I pulled the valve covers off. Mass destruction, alot of metal has blown thru that engine. I could detail the over use of shims, valve seals in the right side alone I could see 5 broken. One rubber was laying on the manifold. Nothing got better. Every part is useless, scarred and damaged. The last attempts for resolution with Virgil were met with ignorance. Him yelling at his mechanic and yelling into the phone, apparently mad at both parties that there is a problem. We attempted resolution, none was accepted. Problem was presented, pictures were sent at their request, offers to allow them to inspect the engine themselves. None of which received a response. No response to facebook messages or posts, although it shows they have viewed them.Would still be willing to negotiate without additional recourse. Hansons will need to make contact for this to happen. Their call. Until I hear from them, I will continue to pursue resolution from other sources.Do not take your work here. Just dont. VIRGIL is more than grumpy as per a previous review. He is greedy and doesnt give a damn. He got the money. We got the shaft and ignored.
Always willing to help, very knowledgeable guys, decent pricing.
Quality work
