Great neighborhood hardware store. The best part of this place is that the folks there can actually help you find things and figure out the plumbing and electrical puzzles we find when dealing with old Alameda homes. Big fan!
Somehow these little hardware stores have more of what you really need then box stores. My go-to place for hard-to-find items.
The folks here are friendly, take initiative, and know exactly what Im talking about when I offer only imprecise descriptions of what Im looking for. (Hands down better than going to Home Depot where many employees make the customer feel like a nuisance). For a smaller store, it has pretty much all the basics! So glad its in my neighborhood!
I could not ask for better service than I received today here from this cool kid, Matt. I recently purchased a motorcycle that was missing many important nuts and bolts that are suppose to support the weight of my motorcycle exhaust, I had ridden my motorcycle there super carefully in hopes I could find something that would work.Matt took the time to come outside to not only gauge size, but test fitment of the bolts I was to purchase to ensure I got exactly what I needed. He was very knowledgeable on being able to switch between metric and standard and did so to ensure I had a good fit. I was also given advice from another gentleman that recommend lock nuts which I also purchased to make sure nothing comes loose.Tldr: Matt is great, give him a raise.
Exceptional staff who answered my questions and showed me exactly what I needed to get the job done. After striking out at Home Depot this trip was so easy. And they offered a 10% military discount to boot. Already excited for more trips back to fix up the house!
Its kind of a small hardware store. I was looking for a tool that I ended up leaving without. The guy at the counter was nice. Theres a pharmacy in part of the store. I guess thats good if your project causes you mental or physical pain.
My wife and I have been dealing with these nice folks for 35 plus years. They are always willing to help you even if its obvious they arent going to make much money when they ring you up. They treat everyone the same no matter what you need. In Home Depot one has to fake a seizure just to get noticed. Theres a feeling of competence with everyone there at Encinal Harware.
As a person of color I also, havent shopped here for years. I recall the owner used to follow me throughout the store as if I was going to steal something. I was asked if I needed help and replied, Im just looking. They have a large inventory crammed into a small store so its nice to just look for other items one might need in the future but not when Im treated rudely. No thanks, Id rather drive to Paganos or even Home Depot. These people do not need my money.
Their hardware (fasteners like screws, bolts, nuts) is well-organized and you can actually find what you need. The closest Home Depot, on the other hand, looks like a childs bin of Legos.
Very nice neighborhood hardware store!
Old local hardware store in alameda.
Knowledgeable staff, nice selection, a pleasure to shop here... Agent Orange this is NOT.
Very attentive and knowledgeable help
Im a usual costumer here, as I like to support local stores than heading over to larger chains like Home Depot or Lowes. But a recent incident at this store, definitely made me realize that I wont be stepping foot here again. My partner and I, visabilly apparent people of color, recently went in to browse for some stains but after realizing they didnt have the color we wanted in stock we headed out. While walking out the door, I noticed we got stared down by the cashier, and I smiled back, but guessing he didnt catch it with my mask on. We walked to our car only to have the cashier run out after us. We exchanged an awkward questioned look as to why he rushed out and he tried to play it off by asking if we needed help.Buddy, next time instead of staring suspiciously at your costumers, how about asking them while they were in your store and not awkwardly while we were getting into our car.My partner walked back in after a couple minutes to let the guy know what he did was not cool. But of course he denied it.Hope the owner reads this and tries to address his staff to not place biased assumptions of theft based on costumers race - especially in a place like Alameda.
Absolutely awesome hardware store. I was asked by 4 different employees if I had been helped. I then had two assist me with my project. Im fact one of the employees allowed me to request a pipe cutting and took care of the rest. If you are on Alameda dont use anyone else! Customer service and selection of goods is really top notch.
I came in to get a copy of my car key. It works great! They can only make a copy of your car key if it does not need a anti theft chip in it.
Very nice people, surprisingly large inventory. They have most of what one needs and the house and for home improvement projects. It doesnt matter how much it little you buy, they always take time to consult and help, even if you only buy two screws for 13 cents each.
Better than going to Home Depot. Great service from actual humans.
Great old fashioned hardware store. Narrow aisles packed with stuff and that old hardware store smell
Great neighborhood store, really part of the neighborhood! Friendly and helpful staff. If they dont have something in stock they can almost always get it, and they give helpful advice on projects.
Not much parking but they had what I needed.
My go-to place for DIY advice and supplies. The people working here really know how to fix things. And they have the parts you need when you need them.neighborhood hardware stores have been hard-hit by big box stores offer a little advice and even less service. Here you may pay a few pennies more but you got good advice and wonderful service.
Great hardware store, good customer service and everything you need!
Exelent
Good shop
Service is always great. Staff member helped sift through numerous screw sizes to assure best fit.
Great customer service. Packed with everything you could possibly need!
Were lucky to have a neighborhood hardware store run by a local family (second generation.). They have never let me down supplying all that is necessary for home and garden maintenance.
The best old fashioned hardware store around. And it has a full service pharmacy attached. All one big happy family owned and operated by two brothers
Great local hardware store with amazing service people! The only problem is they close at 6 on the weekdays and 2pm on Sunday. If you want good service I recommend going here.
Great little store with helpful staff.
Awesome neighborhood hardware with a Pharmacy inside too. They do a great job supporting the homeowners in this neighborhood of older homes. And they do not charge for the great advice or friendly smiles.
Everyone is SO incredibly helpful here! They have pretty much everything you need ...and you get help instantly unlike a certain big box store that shall remain nameless.
This is my go to place. They have the little things that I need. They are always helpful.I have a Craftsman house and need the old and unusual stuff. They have it. Just now had them set aside a Mortise lock that no other store in the are has. And it is cheap too!
The most helpful hardware store in the area. My first choice before Home depot or ACE.
They always provide great service and can answer all kinds of questions. Very helpful.
Usually pretty good service, but varies depending on when you go and who is working.
The real bonus is the advice you get - they will advise you on how to solve your problem, thereby saving the expense of calling a contractor. Shop local and support independent retailers who really know their stuff and stock what you need.
Nice family-owned store
I love this store and they carry everything I need plus an expert to explain to me how everything can be used! Now I no longer visit homedepot
Good energy, helpful and unpretentious, and not the slightest hint of racism, which what you usually get in Alameda.
I was in and out quick, i had a question and asked Mike Jabor, Mike and his brother Phil are the owners of encinal hardware. He answered my question and was very friendly and helpful like always. My trip to encinal hardware was a good one!
Great customer service and excellent stock of hardware.
I try to do all my Hardware shopping here; including larger ticket items when possible. If we dont support small businesses, we are all going to end up having to go to Costco or Home depot where customer service is non existent...These guys will help you find stuff you have no name for, or for which you have only a concept...Try that at Home Depot...
The store may seem small but it has everything you need, plus the personnel and attention is fantastic!
Very knowledgeable and helpful
Great place
First Rate
Encinal hardware is the best
Terrible.
